"Many of the writers, directors, producers or actors I’ve worked with wouldn’t even recognize or know how to make this stuff."
Writes Karl Taro Greenfeld, "a scriptwriter for television and a novelist," in "Short Videos Are Killing Hollywood. A Merger Won’t Save It" (NYT).
But Greenfeld takes the position that the "attention span is shattered," even if people are spending hours looking at short video.

"These aren’t like some vague hallucinations, these are like three-dimensionally-rendered, highly-detailed figures inhabiting your exterior world."
Said University of Utah researcher Colin Domnauer, quoted in "New magic mushroom makes users see tiny ‘gnome’ people — scientists have no idea how it’s doing that" (NY Post).
The mushroom is L. asiatica.Would you want to see little people running around everywhere?I remember hearing Joe Rogan talk about this and speculate that the people are somehow really there...."You know the thing is like is it teaching us something about the human brain or is it allowing you to see something that's actually there all the time?"

"Bob would just mow paths through the meadows and put a bench down and just read his book, and probably have a drink."
"No one ever believes me when I tell them it’s 1.91 acres.... They always think it’s much, much bigger, because you have all of these little mini-follies and these little windy paths that you get a little bit lost in as if you were in a much larger garden. But you’re not."

"At a mushroom hot pot restaurant there, the server set a timer for 15 minutes and warned us, 'Don't eat it until the timer goes off or you might see little people."
The quote is from Colin Domnauer, "a doctoral candidate in biology at the University of Utah and the Natural History Museum of Utah, who is studying L. asiatica," quoted in "'They saw them on their dishes when eating': The mushroom making people hallucinate dozens of tiny humans" (BBC).
Every year, doctors at a hospital in the Yunnan Province of China brace themselves for an influx of people with an unusual complaint. The patients come with a strikingly odd symptom: visions of pint-sized, elf-like figures – marching under doors, crawling up walls and clinging to furniture....
In a 1991 paper, two researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences described cases of people in Yunnan Province who had eaten a certain mushroom and experienced "lilliputian hallucinations" – the psychiatric term for the perception of tiny human, animal or fantasy figures....
[O]ther known psychedelic compounds also usually produce idiosyncratic trips that vary not only from person to person but also from one experience to the next within the same individual. With L. asiatica, though, "the perception of little people is very reliably and repeatedly reported", Domnauer says. "I don't know of anything else that produces such consistent hallucinations."

"Size of Life."
A beautiful and entertaining graphic depiction of the relative size of various life forms.
I've always loved perceptions about size. I've collected them over the years using my tag "big and small" — you know, the large boulder the size of a small boulder, the Santa Claus hat, and all the rest — so I'm happy to have something else, something so good, to add to my collection.

"Mr. Trump is aware of the criticism that his ballroom plans are too large."

I wonder who the 4 sources are and how intensely Trump and the architect have disagreed. Is it a friendly back-and-forth about proportion and aesthetics or is there raging and threatening to stomp off and tell all?

Washington itself "dwarfs" the original White House — I think the solution is symmetry.

My symmetry solution: Build up the West Wing into the size of the new East Wing.
The presidential complex really should be that large. Once there is symmetry in the wings, the iconic building in the center will be the focus of attention and the 2 hulks on either side will blend into the background that is all of Washington D.C. — a city full of hulkingly large buildings.
The West and East Wings will provide a transition from the brutal city. They will loom in our peripheral vision as we gaze at the Executive Residence — the building that has always been the only building we see in our mind when we think of the White House.
I'll bet you think the Oval Office is in that building. It's not! It's in the West Wing. So take care with the demolition work when you undertake Project Symmetry. And by "you," I mean Mr. Donald Trump! Because the way to clinch the argument that the East Wing project is good is to use your building prowess in pursuit of proportionality.
