Did Trump say something about Karoline Leavitt's mouth?

I'm trying to understand the background to the satire in last night's "SNL" cold open:

It's better to know the background before attempting to get the satire. The fun is lost if you have to research it after the fact, but that's what I did. The question in the post title was my Google search, and I came up with this:

Wow, he actually said, about Leavitt, "When she goes on television, Fox, like I mean, they dominate. They dominate when she gets up there with that beautiful face and those lips that don't stop — pop pop pop — like a little machine gun."

"SNL" is so lucky to have him. The best lines are straight from the transcript of his ad lib remarks. What can they add?

Well, what they add is the sexualization. Trump was admiring her professional performance as press secretary. "SNL" is turning it into something completely sexual. They think they have a privilege to set back the progress of women in the workplace.

My tiny, squeaky voice says they don't.

They had a Chief Executive who shook hands with ghosts, was unable to control his impulses to sniff and nuzzle baby girls and cabinet wives, and he had a fake Oval Office built for his fake press conferences where he took predetermined questions from reporters in on the con…

But none of that was fodder for the comedic genius of Lorne Michaels. Propaganda Night Live holds no interest for me. I got to live through the first 30 years when they had more sense and fewer angry frustrated political operatives pretending to be funny.

She’s the best Press Secretary ever. Her mouth is beautiful because of what comes out of it.

She can write her ticket in three years. Governor Leavitt. Senator Leavitt.

I don't think women are taken seriously except by themselves. They're taken as a mutually understood joke by men.

The problem is that their baseline crazy is 4 out of 10.

Women can have terrific talent, e.g. Yuja Wang, but still crazy.

Lord, give me strength to defeat Big Solar in my trial this week. Give me the confidence and ability to articulate the case in a persuasive and articulate manner. Send the Holy Spirit so I can effectively cross-examine the highly paid experts for Big Solar. As one of your Jesuit priests once wrote, don’t let me lose my composure. Finally, help me keep Lancaster County, Nebraska beautiful in our minds and imagination.

Amen.

Trump admiring women that are beautiful and relentlessly smart and well spoken. Far from the trope that he fears smart women. Of course SNL doesn’t want anyone to notice that.

“Donald Trump has commented on Karoline Leavitt's lips a total of three times in separate public instances.

The comments were made on the following occasions:
August 2025 (Newsmax interview): During an interview with Newsmax, Trump first described Leavitt as "a star" and specifically mentioned, "It's that face. It's that brain. It's those lips, the way they move. They move like she's a machine gun".
October 2025 (Air Force One): While speaking to reporters on Air Force One returning from Israel, Trump again praised her appearance and delivery, stating, "That face... and those lips, they move like a machine gun, right?".

December 2025 (Pennsylvania Rally): Most recently, at an economic rally in Pennsylvania, he reiterated the comments, saying, "You know, when she goes on television, on Fox, they dominate when she gets up there with that beautiful face and those lips that don't stop — bup bup bup — like a little machine gun".

And those lips that don't stop. He's mixing his metaphors here usually that is how legs are described on a tall lanky woman in a short skirt.

But Ann is correct. Men are sexualizing this comment by Trump because it is sexual in nature. In a man's nature. Healthy heterosexual men who have adequate levels of hormones and are not worthless fat f**** still think about sex all the m************ time.

Male fantasies, male fantasies, is everything run by male fantasies? Up on a pedestal or down on your knees, it's all a male fantasy: that you're strong enough to take what they dish out, or else too weak to do anything about it. Even pretending you aren't catering to male fantasies is a male fantasy: pretending you're unseen, pretending you have a life of your own, that you can wash your feet and comb your hair unconscious of the ever-present watcher peering through the keyhole, peering through the keyhole in your own head, if nowhere else. You are a woman with a man inside watching a woman. You are your own voyeur.
Margaret Atwood, The Robber Bride

Trump's comment wasn't sexualization. Leavitt is attractive, and we all know it.

Was it sexualization when Trump talks about meeting generals or Air Force pilots? He does that, "They could all be in Hollywood" routine.

Althouse insists, once again, on the bullshit claim that women were ever “subordinated” in the workplace. Certainly not in my lifetime, and I’m 75. Althouse’s own professional success is a hilarious repudiation of the imaginary subordination. Beauty is a great thing. Enjoying female beauty is one of the great pleasures of life. It’s a great asset for Leavitt, and if she’s a sensible woman (and I suspect she is), she’s exploiting her beauty to the max and giving it unselfishly to everybody in her orbit. (I like Althouse a lot, and I’ve been following her and commenting since the earliest days of her blog. Everybody’s got a line of inexplicable bullshit. Althouse’s is her feminism.)

SNL had to sexualize Trump’s comments, because he flipped the script on the old pejorative “motormouth” that has been used wrongly at times to relegate assertive women in the workplace.

Unfortunately Donald Trump has no interest in eliminating “democracy”. That it should be rooted out, stomped, burned and it’s ashes scattered to the winds is sadly not in the cards. Retards like ole Jim here won’t understand, but those of you who actually retained the basic structure and purpose of our government will still throw terms around loosely. Cause they’re retards. Same people that don’t know the difference between racism and bigotry.

This episode was pretty good, cold open aside. Josh O'Connor was the host, and he displayed an appropriate British level of self-mockery. Best sketch was a bachelorette party that invites the strippers women really want: O'Connor and one of the cast members in beanies and cardigans, coming in shyly and saying sensitive stuff to the bride. Good incident of SNL being aware of its own bubble. CC, JSM

Well Trump may give them good straightlines, but Trump is hard to satirize because (1) he's funnier then the SNL writers (2) he's good looking and (3) he's smart and successful.

The guy doing Trump is awful. The jokes are mediocre. And for satire to work it has to contain some truth. Trump isn't stupid. He's not lazy. He's not uninformed. He's not sexual toward the help. Leftist just want to the same ol' well of "Republicans are stupid hicks" and it doesn't work with Trump.

RCOCEAN II said...

I just through SNL season 10 - 1984-1985, and Harry Shearer tries to satirize and attack Reagan and he whiffs. He has set up a strawman and knock it down. Plus, Reagan didn't give them a "Hook" - he wasn't a blockhead like Ford who fell down. Or a goof who constantly made errors in syntax like Bush II.

RCOCEAN II said...

BTW, Leavitt is good. At least Trump learned how to appoint a good press secretary.

It would blow their minds if they learned we were a Republic.

SNL functions as the equivalent of the Soviet Writers Union. Creativity is permitted, but only within a range that supports the narrative. It's probably challenging. Like writing an essay in iambic pentameter.

RCOCEAN II said...

When the tea party got started, the MSM libtards first thought was "tea-bagging". Nobody in the normal part of the USA knew what they were talking about. But that was the MSM/DNC first-go-to thought.

After re-watching a lot of the SNL past seasons (I'm up to Season 11) its struck me how absolutely important the performers are. It doesn't matter how well written a skit is, if you have poor or mediocre execution, the whole thing dies. And if have a great performer, they can raise the whole thing to another level.

I dont' know what happened to SNL the last 10 years, but their talent sucks.

Not far off the mark for Trump....

"Well, I'll tell you the funniest is that I’ll go backstage before a show, and everyone’s getting dressed and ready and everything else. No men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it. ... You know, they’re standing there with no clothes. ‘Is everybody OK?’ And you see these incredible-looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that." ~ Donald Trump (Howard Stern Show 2005)

Separately, multiple former Miss Teen USA contestants (from events like 1997, when some were as young as 15) alleged in 2016 reports that Trump entered their dressing rooms while they were changing, making them uncomfortable. These are allegations from contestants, and his campaign denied them at the time.
