When I was a kid, we had a big, clunky antenna thing up on the roof. It picked up three channels on a good day, two on a bad day. If you wanted to watch TV, you watched what was on one of those channels.
I stopped watching TV in the 70's, and haven't missed it. But the rest of the herd went right on, watching Friends and Seinfeld and a whole bunch of other crap I heard about even though I had never seen it. But at this point, I don't really understand why "broadcast television" still exists. There are ten million channels, and you can watch any of them, whenever you like. Why would anyone watch an interview "in its actual 8 p.m. (sic) time slot" ? I suppose if you were so eager to see it that you didn't want to wait another second.
Watched the entire thing in the actual time slot it came on. Didn’t mean to. Had the Army/Navy came on, left to do some errands and when I settled back in to watch something, anything, Bari was just starting the interview live. Had nothing better to do so I watched it start to finish. My only comment is it made me uncomfortable in some places, like it was a bit to raw with her emotions that it was a bit of a distraction. I like what she was saying, but I think I’d have rather seen this after another 3 months or so rather than now. You’d have to watch he whole thing to get what I mean as the clips showing up inline aren’t giving the broader context of the overall interview. She’s pretty good at keeping earlier topics relevant and comes back to a couple of Bari’s earlier questions on some of her later answers. A decent freshman attempt but I suspect Bari can see where the weak spots are and course correct on her next town hall. Hope she succeeds but more importantly, I hope Erika enjoys growth and success with TP USA; the more I learn about it, the more I think it’s a positive force for good on our younger folks.

Given that no one's watching network TV anymore is the usual advertising on it anything to boast about? One would assume that a sports event or regular series would have sponsors lined up well in advance, while a hastily assembled quasi-news offering would have to scramble for advertisers.
But still, how long before Bari goes the way of Colbert? Similar sense of mission that goes beyond bringing in the bucks.
I don’t believe all of these conversations would be between Bari and some other person. I could be wrong, but my impression is it’s a general shift in news/opinion coverage, where both or multiple sides are given air time, involving multiple people.
Scott Jennings brings a lot of eyeballs and replays to CNN for the simple reason that he brings another view point and he backs up his claims. Bari was burned at NYT for not following the groupthink there, so it follows she would encourage more diversity of thought anywhere she goes. You don’t have to follow her thinking, just the acknowledge the broadened access.

I read online articles and tweets discussing the Kirk interview and what was said - some with clips. I don't know how a CBS can monetize that but I already pay a subscription to support Bari Weis's vision of the news. I just renewed my annual subscription to the Free Press.
I think there's a question of what the news is for. The Wall Street Journal survives because it provides information that people want. The NY Post survives because it is entertaining.
Other outlets survive because an owner is willing to lose money operating them. The Free Press made it's mark by providing interesting things to think about. The original journalism was people who travelled and returned news to subscribers (mostly merchants). The advertising model for news may be at a dead end. Look at the ads on Instapundit.

The real lesson of her career is that propaganda for the rich and powerful is lucrative. In this moment in time, in particular, doing straight-up propaganda for a regime that lives off US taxpayer money, is especially lucrative.
Journalism that involves an honest accounting of the deeds of the rich and powerful is often a much greater challenge.
