In case you want to talk about the Super Bowl and its commercials...

... this post is for you.

ADDED: I'm watching. My normal practice is to mute commercials, but we've been keeping the sound on because the commercials are a big deal. Maybe it's because I'm not used to hearing commercials at all, but, man, these commercials are noisy. Thumping music and the kind of exaggerated sound effects that have ruined movies over the past 20 years. Also, the game seems to exemplify the most boring things about football — flags, punting, bleh.

The refs really want the Patriots to win.

Then they can say the Saints would have lost anyway.

The hardest thing about watching the Super Bowl is remembering to take bathroon breaks during the game, not the commercials.

It's an amazingly hard habit to suppress.

Only the Patriots second trip to the Super Bowl since 2018. Only their third trip since 2017.

Pats lose Super Bowls when their opponets defensive line smashes their offense, either by force or by coverage sacks. Otherwise fuggehtaboutit.

First time in a long time the Patriots key offense players are all healthy. Usually Gronk or slot1 is missing.

Given how poorly the Rams' offense has played, they're lucky to be down only 3-0. Gotta wonder whether the disparity in time-of-possession (almost 2:1, Patriots) will result in the Rams' defense tiring in the second half and allowing the Patriots to break things open?

Fun trivia about Gladys Knight - Ronald Reagan made a joke about the Pips ( a great singing group and not the sort of people who should be made fun of in a disrespectful way for their names) back when he was President. It was not a funny joke - it is kind of silly to make fun of the moniker of a band or a singing group - but it was not a mean joke either, just the sort of joke people who like other people, and who like to riff on funny words or funny expressions, would make, in the assumption that we are all human beings, and language is something we can laugh about.

According to the then respected mainstream media, Gladys and the Pips understood that the joke was not meant in a mocking way, and did not get angry.

Fast forward ---

stephen cooper said...

In case you do not want to look up the joke, I think it went something like this -

Reagan: "I love Georgia. I won the electoral vote in Georgia, and loved campaigning there. I would have won by 3 more votes if the Pips had not been on tour out of state on election day. Well, maybe by 3 more votes ...."

Really, Titus, do try to keep up dear. The Pats aren't cool.

The Daily Beast called the Pats "the preferred team of white supremacists" and the SJWs were all rooting for the Rams because Kraft is friends with Trump. The little Brit twit who played Harry Potter tweeted out that he didn't want the Pats to win because Brady once displayed a MAGA hat in his locker.

https://twitter.com/thedailybeast/status/1091886551699738624

So we flyover deplorables are quite happy the Pats won and all the lib journalists and Hollywood types have a sad.

That was one boring SB.

Jaq said...

Having spent the season watching the Patriots, I have to hand it to the Rams defense. There were so many plays that normally got a whole lot more yards. I think the Rams tackling kept them in the game. Catching the receiver the minute he catches the ball.

Belichick nearly blew a gasket when the ref went over and let the Rams’ coach know he was stupid to accept that penalty. That mistake would have given the Patriots an extra down and pretty much ended the game. If the Pats had lost after that, you could have argued that that was as big a fuckup by the Ref as two weeks ago. I am not 100% sure that is what happened, but it sure seemed like it.

Static Ping said...

They got enough first downs to soak up the time.

Like MLB, they need to speed up the action and shorten the length of games or they'll lose more audience. Less time between plays means the linemen will be smaller and there'll be more big plays.

Were there any official reviews?
