Interesting that he didn't elaborate on the demographic of that 'third'. Is it people born after 9/11? Seems unlikely. Do we add illegal immigrants to that cohort? Still comes up short. Who else has 'no clue'?

Once again we're exhorted to accept Islam as the Religion of Peace. That instruction is pretty much washed out of me, now, having seen so many irrefutable examples to the contrary, over and over again. I"ll start believing it when I see the so-called invisible Moderates start policing their ranks and enforcing that whole 'peace' thing. Having seen it in action in their many host countries, my experiences tell me it's a religion of conquest. Or, fairly often, the Religion of Pieces.

I'm glad GWB has mostly stayed out of the limelight and minded his own business, privately.

We destroyed the bonds of the nuclear family. We destroyed the social fabric of neighborhoods. We destroyed the communal spirit of church.

GWB is right.A growing percentage of Americans have never seen, first hand, the qualities of loyalty, service and sacrifice.

We are poorer for it.

The moderate Muslims are fearful of the radical ones, too. Anyone who says something short of praising Allah wrt Islam is subject to being killed. Plus, they are all allowed to lie to further the goal of conquest. Even if the moderates chastised Islam in some way, it is likely a ruse.

So, none can be trusted, imho, and all must go back to where their culture lives. It’s not here. The sooner the better.

tim maguire said...

Whether Islam is a religion of peace is an internal matter for Muslims to work out for themselves. If there are large groups of Muslims engaging in extreme violence and using Islam as their justification, we non-Muslims have no need to ponder such doctrinal questions.

But we do need to react rationally to what is happening in the real world.

Six days after 9/11, GWB visited an Islamic center in DC and pronounced "The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace." Today we would call that "suicidal empathy" (h/t to Gad Saad).

Precious stuff. It's a bit saddening to see W older and less clearly assertive in some of his statements. He is frozen in time for me. Though it was an awful time, and he was fairly easy to satirize, he helped lead us. His reply to Condoleeza was touching in that he had no emotional gushing to offer and felt his answer might seem inadequate. Instead, it was eloquent, fantastically eloquent.

I don't know where that "one-third" comes from. The youngest cohort, born after 9/11? Or immigrants? Or both, I guess Is it really one-third, after rounding?

Islam and Judaism are both death cults. Have you read Exodus? You know the part where "God" murders non-Jewish babies to make a political point? Jewish families get together and sing songs and break bread to celebrate God murdering innocent babies every Passover. The most sacred of all Jewish holidays. That is the fucking sickest, most God-damned depraved religious custom I have ever heard of.

Jews and Muslims have much more in common with each other than they have with Christians.

Why in the world does GWB repeat the demonstrably false claim that Islam is "the religion of peace?"

It wasn’t so much that the terrorists had subverted their religion, as that our own intelligence agencies probably did.

Here is Jimmy Carter’s national security advisor sending the mujahadeen into Afghanistan in 1979 armed by us, trained by us, and funded by us. Brzezinski admits that the point was to provoke a Soviet invasion in an interview with the Nouvelle Observateur.

“What’s a few excited jihadis?” he said in 1999.

BTW, that rousing speech by “Speg” was given in Pakistan, just over the border from Tora Bora, where we had bin Ladin dead to rights early in the war when W ordered a temporary halt in the bombing, and Osama then escaped to Pakistan.

Payback is a Motherfucker

An estimated 4.5 million to 4.7 million people have died due to the post-9/11 wars.

The vast majority of the 3.6 million to 3.8 million indirect deaths are attributed to the reverberating ripple effects of continuous conflict. Specific causes include the spread of preventable diseases, acute malnutrition (especially among young children), infant mortality, and the total collapse of local economic systems, public infrastructure, and healthcare networks.

Direct Combat Deaths (approx. 18% to 22% of the total):Roughly 900,000 to 940,000 people were killed directly by active war violence, including airstrikes, small arms fire, bombings, and military engagements. This direct total encompasses civilians, national militaries, opposition fighters, journalists, and humanitarian workers across major zones like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Pakistan. Geoge Bush same ol tired fraud. I can remember in 2021 when he said the J6 protestors and the 911 terrorists were the same foul bunch. He always seems so bored and disinterested in talking about "Lets roll" and all the heroism of the first-responders. And talks about the American people like some group of space aliens he's just met.

And I was annoyed in 2021 at the emphasis on "reassuring our Muslim Americans", but after seeing all the wacko "Islam is our enemy" hate still being pushed 25 years later, I suppose it was neccessary. Otherwise you wouldve had 'muricans out there shooting in 2021 "them thar moos-lims".

This is a deeply dangerous canard. Does this sound like "Christian values" to you:

So now, kill all the boys, as well as every woman who has had relations with a man, but spare for yourselves every girl who has never had relations with a man." Numbers 31:15

If the topic is "foundational texts," I have read nothing crueler, more sick and depraved than the Torah. Most of the book is about how God loves animal sacrifice.

For the record, I no problem Jews and western Muslims but Peachy is correct when he says their foundational texts are evil.

Bush talked about how impressed he was by the rush of Americans to serve. He was the one who ultimately decided what to do with that, how to use it.
He talked about what he thought at the time. Has he ever answered questions like what does he think about it now? How did he do? What, if anything, should he have done differently?
He said a third of the country hadn't seen that kind of sacrifice, etc. If he's talking about the younger generations, I think he's mistaken to believe they are oblivious. We just got out of Afghanistan a couple years ago. I think the younger generations are very aware of the service and sacrifice of the GWOT, but they also have strong opinions about what was done with that service and sacrifice. I think many feel, rightly or wrongly, that it was squandered and taken advantage of. That's what they are taught. That's the narrative.
And there's some truth to it, no doubt. Of course it's not that simple. It's not a binary.
Does Bush think about that? Has he been asked about it? I'd like to hear what he has to say for himself, looking back.

Regarding the war in Iraq I don’t know if everyone in s intentionally misremembering but every intelligence agency in the world - every single one - agreed saddam Hussein was far along in his nuclear program. The concern was that if 19 civilians could do this to the USA with only box cutters imagine what would be with nuclear weapons. No agency disagreed with this assessment.

The other rationale is that Islam very clearly wants to destroy the west in general and specifically USA. The thought was either they are coming here to murder American citizen in supermarkets and malls or our soldiers are going there to stop them there.

Anyone who doesn’t remember the terror after r the attacks either has Very poor memory or is intentionally misremembering

Rosalyn C. said...

What is mass genocide?
In Gaza a mass genocide (according to popular opinion) is the death of 2-3% of the population over the last 3 years. The casualities include Hamas fighters, collateral victims, and those civilians who died of natural causes.

Also, the violent Bible stories are descriptions of events from about three thousand years ago. Seems strange to have to mention this fact but apparently it is a necessary reminder. Warfare was more common and more violent. People lived in fortified cities and casualties from wars were far higher than modern rates. 10-20% versus 1-3% in modern wars.

Calling Judaism a death cult because of historical events from the 2nd millennium is absurd. Also there is no requirement in Judaism to cheerfully allow yourself to be murdered, then or now.

The reason Islam is referred to as a death cult are #1, that Islam teaches this worldly life is temporary, a test, and is of lesser ultimate value than the eternal afterlife; while life is sacred. #2, Death is not to be feared, because it is a step towards God. An obedient life is necessary for Muslims (submission to Allah), but not a guarantee of Paradise. Entry depends on the mercy of Allah. There is a lot of emphasis on the afterlife for Muslims -- Paradise or burning in Hellfire. Only a martyr for Allah is guaranteed entry into eternal paradise. Children are taught in places such as Gaza that the highest aspiration they can have is to die for Allah.

Islam and Christianity each put a lot of attention on Heaven/Hell. Judaism does not either. The focus in Judaism is the here and now and asking for yearly renewal of life.

Keith said...

Regarding the Torah - that’s a long discussion that’s very fruitful when discussed between honest actors but not worthwhile with someone who’s convinced Jews are evil. Makes no sense in debating with Jupiter or Rco who just hate Jews and twist everything to support that belief.

Okey-dokey. I'm not sure how foreign terrorists attacked "our values" or what the hell Bush did about that, but whatever. And he's stilling pushing the bilge about "Making the world safe for Democracy". And poor little girls in Afghanistan cant go to school or whatever.

I'd rather the girls in Afghanistan stay at home then be blown up by a drone or US cluster bomb. And I'm all for freedom but its not our job to kill foreigners who don't want "our freedom". Every country has to find its own way. We can help the good guys but that doesn't mean dropping bombs or cutting off food and medicine.

In any case, its their country - not ours. Free or not. And 50 years from now it'll still be there country. And it could be free or maybe not. We killed thousands to free Iraq. And there's "Sorta free". And they may not be free 2 years from now. Their country - their rules.
