“Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess,” ~ Donald Trump
Shortly after an American helicopter was shot down by the Iranian military.
Trump doesn’t have congressional support to restart the war. Iran knows this and it has no option other than dragging the war until November midterms. Trump’s Next major milestone perhaps is re-election of Netanyahu in October.
Never thought anyone could make war tedious but he's really pushing the boat out for that achievement right now.
A Roman citizen could walk from one end to the other of the Empire, confident in his person, knowing that if he were harmed, there would be a response and a Legion would descend on the region to exact retribution for his death.
I always considered that one of the stupidest scenes in the fantasy world of The West Wing.
So, status quo and someone attacks the U.S. All the U.S. should do in response has to be proportional to the unprovoked attack?
What kind of stupid is this?
That invites the attacker to always get to choose the terms of the battle and the response. It also invites the attacker to continue to attack the U.S. under its terms and conditions.
The better response is to be disproportionate and make it so the attacker never wants to do that again.
That's Trump's hint. The war resumes and will be finished this time.
Someone here asked what I would do. Nuke Iran? Kill civilians? Reductio ad absurdum.
Military strategy was not a course offered at Creighton University, but I am fairly smart.
I look to what General Jack Keane (Fordham alum) and Victor Davis Hanson have said.
1. The Pentagon hasn't completed its target list. Complete it.
2. I hope Trump gave disinformation about the Kurds stealing the smuggled weapons for Iran. Maybe the Iranian opposition does have those weapons.
3. Seize Karq Island.
4. Kill the next level of IRGC leaders.
5. Attack the police stations, militia and IRGC bases in smaller towns other than Tehran. Hit the Iranian equivalents of cities like Omaha, Madison and Kansas City. Then hit Tehran.
That clip is why I hate Libtards so much. First we get the noble black Admiral. Played by "Good times" actor John Amos!
Then we get this stupid dialogue where nobody tells the President why we do "Proportional Responses". They just hew and haw, so whats his name can deliver the punchline about "We need to have a disportional response".
Its all very Hollywood libtard. I think Netenyahu must have watched it.
Proportional response is the way civilized countries and people's act. When someone slaps you, you don't get to take out a gun and kill them. When someone commits fraud and steals $10K, you don't take their house and their $1 million dollar bank account. And kill their kids.
And when someone shoots down a helicopter, you don't bomb Tehran and kill 1000 innocent people. Unless you're Israel. Or maybe Trump.
Proportional response gets back to "Why are we fighting?". If we arent engaged in a genocidal war, trying to wipe another tribe out like some African savage, or Netenyahu, then you're going to end the war by negotiation. And disproportional responses get in the way of that.
And the underlying assumption of both the TV show and Trump's tweet is wrong. Our engagement in syria (TV show) and Iran (reality) were completely voluntary on our part. We are the aggressors. Iran did nothing to us, and we attacked them. So all this death and destruction is on our head. Now, when they fight back, we're getting all huffy and angry and we're going to show them!
'“Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess,” ~ Donald Trump'
"Shortly after an American helicopter was shot down by the Iranian military."
Those are not contradictory statements. The Iranian military can be a total mess and able to shoot down a helicopter. Interesting military fact, most of the casualties in WW II in Europe occurred after the D-Day landings and the collapse of the German army. After Germany, for all intents and purposes, had lost.
You really wonder why the Ukraine and Israel who do all these illegal assassinations of other countries leaders never suffer much retaliation. It must be a conscious decision on the part of Putin and the Iranians/Arabs.
If I was in their place, I'd be figuring out a way to retaliate. But they're probably decided that's not in their countries interest. Certainly any retalitation would be morally justified.
The United States is engaged in a training exercise. Iran is engaged in a war. The IRGC can bet that if they hold out until the November elections, they will get better terms. What they're betting with, however, is their lives. If things spiral out of control, Iran runs the risk of being destroyed. America runs the risk of higher gas prices. This war and its aftershocks will be disproportionately felt by Iran and its people.
BTW, stupid immoral people love this "When they bring a knife, you bring a gun" "Lets bomb all back to the stoneage" "Kill em all and let God sort em out".
And its no accident this crap is put out by Hollywood execs who sue and screech in horror anytime they're physically harmed.
Its the exact opposite of the way men of honor have behaved in the past. Its the attitude of Vegeance. And the Stalinist attitude of when you get in power, usually through lies and trickery, you grind your enemies into the dust.
We'll just wipe out anyone we don't like. We don't care about "Rules". However, when we win, we'll flip on a dime and start posing as moral superiors and convict our enemies of "War crimes".
Trump’s biggest weakness is believing all our adversaries are sane and would agree to a mutually beneficial deal. I’ve seen little evidence of this. In fact, just the opposite. At this point, I’m just waiting to see how long he drags this out before moving to the inevitable next step.
The clip using a one-time liberal hero is quite apt. Trump has been signaling a doctrinal shift in his second term, most conspicuously by the name change to the Department of War.
It's been clear for decades that the asymmetrical warfare practiced by Iran and its proxies factored-in a "proportional" response enabling them to continue to advance their long-term strategy of building an impregnable strategic deterrence with missiles and atomic weapons over time.
Obama-Biden thought that could be avoided or at least delayed until someone else's term in office with bribery, appeasement and, for domestic consumption, "proportional" responses.
October 7 was a catalyst event. Hamas expected the usual retaliation. After all, they built all those concrete tunnels with all that aid money to survive such a proportional response. And located military sites near civilian ones to establish propaganda deterrence.
Trump recognizes the advantage of removing the predictability of proportionality from deterrence and the conduct of war.
"It's been clear for decades that the asymmetrical warfare practiced by Iran and its proxies factored-in a "proportional" response enabling them to continue to advance their long-term strategy of building an impregnable strategic deterrence with missiles and atomic weapons over time."
That's what they've been doing. I understand the desire to short-circuit it.
Hiroshima was hardly a proportionate response to Pearl Harbor, but it won the war and saved American lives, which is what counts in war. No American should be asked to die on a Japanese beach to save Japanese lives.
Trump is showing the way. His crushing surprise attack on the Ayatollah and the rest of the trash is the way the United States will deal with countries like Iran. Forget about traditional, large-scale ground conflicts and think more about focused, high-impact campaigns. It is the era of decapitation strikes.
Trump uses this clip effectively to reframe the debate by showing an iconic Dem TV character persuasively arguing for what may or may not be Trump's real life position with regard to how he will respond to Iran attempting to kill 2 American flyers who were protecting civilian cargo ships and their crews from Islamic extremists.
"It's been clear for decades that the asymmetrical warfare practiced by Iran and its proxies factored-in a "proportional" response enabling them to continue to advance their long-term strategy of building an impregnable strategic deterrence with missiles and atomic weapons over time."
If you see someone assembling and loading a gun right in front of you and you know they intend to shoot you with it, do you wait until they do?
Per The Drill SGT's comment above about Roman citizens: a couple of days ago, my husband and I were talking with a quebecoise bartender and -owner of Irish descent here in Toronto. (None of his deets are important; I just liked him and thought his background was interesting.) You know that saying, "One riot, one Mountie"? He explained why it was so.
You didn't mess with an RCMP officer, he said, because if you did, thirty of them would come mess you up.
The same saying is applied to Texas Rangers, I suspect for the same reason. So it's not necessarily about their incredible prowess, but rather about the brotherhood. And not necessarily "honorable," but an effective deterrent nonetheless.
In this week of Karmelo vs Austin, in which Austin's "provocative" laying on of hands received a decidedly disproportionate response (and I second Eva Marie's recommendation about the YouTube channel Consider Culture, where the host notes that "laying hands on" a black person is too often seen as intolerable, with zero consideration to the fact that the law does not agree), and Karmelo will pay a heavy price for his lack of proportion, it's my opinion and that of many others that war is different from interpersonal interactions.
(Law enforcement ideally resides somewhere in between, I think, based on what I've heard about police training: I gather that police officers are enjoined to try always to avoid responding with violence, but can lawfully use even deadly force if they perceive a threat - I think even not necessarily a deadly one - to themselves or someone else. The actual police response in a particular situation doesn't always meet this standard - see Mounties and Rangers, above.)
"Its the exact opposite of the way men of honor have behaved in the past. "
War is not about "honor". When I served in the military the doctrine was overwhelming force. The sentiment was that if you find yourself in a fair fight, you fucked up.
Trial by combat between champions may be a place for honor. Dealing with captured prisoners of war is a place for honor (I believe). Dealing with the civilian population in a conquered area is a place for honor (on both sides, Ocean, before you start blathering on about "genocide" and "killing babies" again, with zero acknowledgement that Hamas considers the babies of its own people to be a valuable weapon in their stated quest to destroy Judaism and all Jews). Dealing with your enemy after their surrender is a place for honor.
Leftie political leaders run home at the end of the day to jerk off to The West Wing. They love every word and see themselves as the characters. Trump ruined it. Now what are they gonna do?
John Goodman plays the over the top Caricature of the House Speaker (acting POTUS)
"all it's worth get your people in place Admiral we don't go today unless we're provoked find her and find her fast but if Zoe bartett turns up dead I'm going to blow the hell out of something and got only knows what happens"
He does have the power to decide, but like all Presidents, he is also subject to political considerations. Yesterday we were talking about Eisenhower and Marshall deciding what to do about Patton. It was a choice between strategic military considerations and political ones. They prioritized military considerations because there was a war on.
The clip is appropriate here- the Iranians clearly think proportionate responses are tolerable and the only ones open the U.S. forces. I personally believe Trump erred when he agreed to the first cease-fire that stopped "bridge and power-plant day" but I understand why he did it- he believed that he was giving the Iranians a chance to make a lasting peace and believed that the previous campaign, which had been quite ruthless even if target restrained, served as the object lesson. The Iranians, however, have taken the cease-fire as a sign of weakness. If things don't change materially over the next few weeks, Trump will have to proceed with a far more brutal target package or the entire operation will have been a failure.
Yancey Ward said... The Iranians, however, have taken the cease-fire as a sign of weakness. If things don't change materially over the next few weeks, Trump will have to proceed with a far more brutal target package or the entire operation will have been a failure. -------------------------- He should start tomorrow - today if possible.
“CENTCOM forces struck Iranian air defense, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz with precision munitions from U.S. Air Force and Navy fighter jets,” it said on X. “The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters."
If we know where they are, I don't understand why we don't take out all of the military installations along the Strait. The only reason I can see is concern over the democrats in congress.
Effectively end the IRGC and do it with extreme prejudice. They were given an opportunity and chose to escalate instead, so they’ve asked for ALL that will be coming to them.
Israel owns him. Now Congress is looking at passing a law giving Israel access to our most closely held secrets. For instance Israel would have unfettered access to satellite and targeting data globally. Jonathon Pollard stole our order of battle against the Soviets, Israel traded it to them, now Pollard has been released from prison and lives as a hero there. We gave Israel technical specs for the F-16, they then handed it over to China. Israel strafed the lifeboats and firefighters on the deck of the Liberty, when the Saratoga responded by sending fighters, they were recalled by the president who gained power by the Kennedy assassination, LBJ also reversed JFK’s opposition to Israel having nukes. Israel boasts about how good they are at assassination.
You guys pretend to be patriotic Americans, but if Bibi hadn’t ordered his bitch to start a war of aggression, killing Iranian leadership while they were at a meeting discussing the American proposal, average Americans would be better off today.
The IRGC needs to be put out of business, which should help to quiet their Democrat allies in Congress. Lord knows they’ve lost any sense of honor, leadership, or loyalty.
Trump has claimed over thirty times that a deal was at hand. He’s a manipulative liar who doesn’t serve the American people, I thought that he did want to put America first, so I voted for him three fricking times, but he puts Israeli goals of regional domination and a thousand year Reich, I mean “permanent security,” first. Netanyahu even used the phrase “final solution.”
BTW, stupid immoral people love this "When they bring a knife, you bring a gun" "Lets bomb all back to the stoneage" "Kill em all and let God sort em out".
You need to move to a different country and learn to defend yourself.
…one of their favorite most fabu West wing episodes is the one where Bartlett pulls the candid comment into an open mic trick. Then the staffers all nod with respect and recognition at what a great politician and statesman Bartlett is. Every leftie President staffer has wanted to recreate that scene in real life. Every President since and Including Clinton has…
You guys pretend to be patriotic Americans, but if Bibi hadn’t ordered his bitch to start a war of aggression, killing Iranian leadership while they were at a meeting discussing the American proposal, average Americans would be better off today.
If you hate us and the people who made your coddled life possible so much get the fuck out of our country.
Just go.
Go to Gaza and shut the fuck up. You think they are better people than we are. Fine Get the fuck out and show everyone you are serious.
Otherwise you are a preening moral coward and a bitch that just needs to shut the fuck up.
The hell you didn't. I suppose you're going to claim you didn't say those exact words, but your prediction was all the talent was going to leave X and Musk would be in desperate straits.
The reality of life is that you don't get to choose whether you will be in a fight or not. You can only choose when to play your hand and how to play it. The future path that Trump is upsetting was one destined to take us to war on the terms of a religious fanatical death cult enemy, a war with many many more casualties and worldwide disruption and death than we will have with this new path. Choosing not to believe the danger is your choice, but that doesn't protect you from its possibility.
Too bad Trump isn't president with the complete and unfettered power to decide on the nature and intensity of the response.
I know he is a retard and he is trying to be sarcastic.
His problem is he is actually right.
This is all for show and an effort to drag this out. We have been escorting ships from particular countries through the strait for some time now.
We just need to address Sykes-Picot a little then we can time the signing of the Abraham accords for ~September right when gas prices drop to ~3$ in red states and 6$ in California.
You can see this dishonorable, anti-Christian behavior in Gaza. October 7th - "endless shrieks and wails of outrage. How dare they, the monsters!".
Then when 70,000 Arab women and old kids are murdered from the air, with hospitals, aid workers, and mosques made targets by Israel we get the tough guy "that's war, baby".
Its the old commie "double-think" applied to modern warfare.
In the middle of the night Trump heard the glass breaking downstairs. His wife was begging him to just stay with her and hide in the closet, but he knew his kids were in the other rooms and in danger, so he got up and rained hell on the intruders before they could get their evil started. Yea, if he had no kids, maybe he could stick to "me first" and hide in the closet, but that would mean trusting the intruders to be kind, but there had been a long running rash of beak-ins and murder in the neighborhood.
My father, who had an unusual background, speaking to me after my complaint about being pushed around by another kid in junior high said, “If you let one dog yap at your heels, pretty soon you will have a whole pack of them.” Sound advice. It conflicts with turning the other cheek, but still sound.
If Israel were a weak nation unable to defend itself against a nation that wants to totally destroy it without mercy, would people still want us to stay out of it and just watch it happen? How about if it wasn't Jewish?

In Iraq in particular we liked Call-outs. We would surround the compound and initiate and call everyone out.
Once we thought we were close to getting everyone out we would go to the Women and ask them through an interpreter "Is everyone out? We are sending the dog in." We would show them the dog with the camera on it.
More than once the women knowingly left a baby in the house knowing the dog would go in and we would see the claims that we sent a dog after a baby in their "News."
It even made its way into our "News" and it made its way to pieces of shit like you.
It is the Muslim women that hold their daughters down and cut their clitorises off by the way.
Fuck you and your fucking Muslim women. Get the fuck out and go live with them.
If you are the male head of your household, the strongest, most capable defender, you get stuck defending your family. You may not like that all the time, and it definitely is an unmatched burden and a risk for you. It may even seem unfair sometimes. That's just the way it is. I guess you have other options, but ones I wouldn't take.
It's amusing people keep thinking about our 90 day old Special Military Operation as a separate conflict instead of Phase 2 of a year-long SMO that began with Midnight Hammer. Warfare's supply of jaw jacking, ceasefrauds, "Phases" and revisionist narratives is never ending in any environment where A) the strategic objectives keep changing and B) interested parties are anxious to avoid acknowledging they may be in for a longer war than they bargained for. I'm a GWOT child...I know all about this.
Israel IS a nation completely incapable of defending itself without the political, financial, and military assistance of the United States.
This gets to the shape of the world that Trump is setting up right now. Japan Taiwan Australia India Pakistan Argentina etc are being set up as regional managers in similar ways to Israel.
They are part of a framework.
When we were deployed different units had different jobs. The Regular Army drove on patrols most of the time. Their job was to drive around and get shot at. This would force the taliban out into the open and we would go in and grab them in the middle of the night.
The regular army gave us room to maneuver. That is what Israel and Pakistan and Japan and India do for us.
Unlike Europe which has turned itself into a complete worthless non-entity much like the people who shit strawberry ice cream on this blog.
The virtue of a proportional response is you don't move up the escalation ladder. It is the enemy who is pushing for escalation and you are hitting them back to maintain the status quo.
Trump is signaling, to the American public and the Iranian negotiators, while this response was proportional, the next one won't be.
Who are more religiously fanatical than Christian and Israeli Zionists? Right now Israel is bombing the Christian city of Tyre in Lebanon because they want the land. We put head choppers in charge in Syria, and since then, they have been steadily massacring Christians.
The real fanatical ones are the ones who think that a world wide war will bring back Jesus, maybe on the 2,000th anniversary of his crucifixion, which must be coming soon.
This war is only popular with Boomers, conservative Boomers.
"The world is not America's "household"...and it sure as shit ain't its family."
We all live in the same house. Most of the people in my house are not family. You can't hide from what's in your house, or what comes in. Every time we tried it the world went to war.
The world is not America's "household"...and it sure as shit ain't its family.
It was post-WW2. We broke it, we bought it.
Trump has been trying for some time to convince the global elite it is no more. His lack of "norms" are his actions to redefine our global responsibilities.
Ukraine builds cheap alternative to US Patriot missiles ~ FT
Ukraine as a successful integrator of EU defense technology. Who would have thought. Looks like Ukraine is holding more and more cards.
War. Very unpredictable. That was especially clear with this conflict where an easy and quick Russian win quickly turned to Russian disaster. You see it unfold as you would wish it to and it’s clear Trump and most of his team wanted to see Russia prevail.
Why did we put the head chopper, who not long ago had a huge price on his head? Because in return he will look the other way while Israel divides up Syria.
Substitute Muslim for another people, and you will get a fair taste here of what Europe must have sounded like in the thirties.
"Israel's GDP is $700+ billion. US aid to Israel is $4 billion. I wouldn't be so sure they would be helpless."
Great news! It would appear I'm incorrect and Israel's testicles have descended. They don't need any more of that historically existential support we've been giving them for decades. They grow up so fast.
Mazels on the manhood Israel! Now go out there and be somebody!
Eight years of the "47 year war" were the war that started when we encouraged Saddam Hussein to attack Iran. Hundreds of thousands dead for an embassy seizure and hostage taking was certainly a disproportional response, but it changed nothing, except perhaps the strengthen the regime's hold on Iran and bolster their hatred of us.
"Disproportional response" can also be a tool of imperialists: you burn our opium deliveries and we invade your country and sack your capital.
I never watched "The West Wing" but from what I've heard this scene may be typical. Martin Sheen delivers his impassioned and eloquent speech (complete with a JFK quote) and nobody can come up with an argument against it. If it's true that cooler heads did prevail in the episode I give the show credit, but I'd think that in real-life a meeting like that wouldn't be so one-sided and generals and presidential aides wouldn't be at a loss for counter arguments.
$46,000,000 APACHE shot down by the country who is obliterated ,decimated and all over more useless word salad while the president sleeping at an NBA game in a town that hates him. The WAR has been over 37 different times and this guy is the worst deal maker in history. Ukraine,Iran,Tariffs YOU NAME IT. Send this fella to the showers ,he is useless and just babbles on about nonsense, market manipulation and things that dont help Americans in their pocket books or general lives, Need a regime change up in here SOON!
Those of you who oppose Trump's strategy are lucky in that you will never have to face or justify the results of your alternative strategy, if you have one. You can continue to pick at every negative, no matter how transitory, and you can ignore the benefits no matter how substantive. That's a safe plan. So far, it's hard to imagine how we could have accomplished what we have with Iran and the larger Middle East with any lower loss of life, but I'm open to listening.
Entertaining for sure. But that's not what he did, and instead is in keeping with what he's been doing since the 'cease fire' was announced on April 7, a 'ceasefire' in which firing by Iran hasn't ceased and the also-promised immediate opening of the Straits has never happened.
As i recall the context the qumari defense minister had orchestrated an attack on a west coast bridge and bartlett had set an ambush for him in bermuda

Two more weeks ya'll! Take it to the bank!
He is right about everything here.
This is all attention span management.
Gotta keep things boiling until everyone is put in their place.
"Self defense" is just a lie to get around the fact that this is a choice that Trump is making to re-ignite the war. The House and the Senate have both passed resolutions demanding that Trump consult them before any further kinetic action, so he provoked Iran; a blockades an act of war, and enforcing a blockade in Iran's territorial waters doubly so. Then he lies and calls it "self defense" to get around the fact that he is fighting an unauthorized war.
One of Trump’s greatest gifts is clarity about the Democrat left. A fine example is the recurring assertion by them that Trump is somehow controlled by Netanyahu. Not only is the assertion evil, baseless and counterintuitive, it is likely founded on antisemitism. You would think even the “Good Germans” who comprise the Democrat Party when faced with the absurdity and the intent behind the assertion wound deny or denounce it. They won’t. Hence “clarity.”
"As i recall the context the qumari defense minister had orchestrated an attack on a west coast bridge and bartlett had set an ambush for him in bermuda"
What's the plan for when all these things that haven't happened fast enough suddenly happen? Maybe nothing will ever get better and Democrats can have a party. Maybe make it a national holiday.
I think it's accurate remembering that when Democrats are in charge and our military is engaged, that the Right mostly resists the temptation to pine for failure and minimize success. We are not the same.
A proportional response does not mean an equivalent response. It means using just enough force to neutralize the threat and prevent future attacks.
A proportional response to the attack on Pearl Harbor does not mean inflicting 3,435 casualties and loss of or severe damage to 188 planes, 8 battleships, 3 light cruisers, and 4 miscellaneous vessels on the Japanese Empire and then calling it a day. That is an equivalent response. A proportional response means neutralizing the threat that the Empire posed to the US and the rest of the eastern Pacific, including the mainland.
So now Trump is going after civilian targets in retaliation for Iran hitting military targets. What a surprise.
Israel wants the Persian Gulf a smoking ruin so that Iran doesn't have it as leverage anymore. Israel does not give a flying fuck about the rest of the world.
At least he isn't going all Dresden, the way a certain country is in Gaza and Southern Lebanon.
You know why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, I mean besides the fact that we baited it as a trap? Because the US was blockading Imperial Japan's access to oil over France's loss of Viet Nam as a colony, purportedly, but more like because Americans wanted no part of the war, and FDR wanted in, and so he provoked and baited the "day that will live in infamy."
The question for me is whether or not special forces is on the ground in Iran. If not, Then Trump is running the war more as a businessman, then as a commander-in-chief. All of this downtime should have been spent arming and training Iranian civilians. I believe the Arab oil Giants do not want a secular government in Iran and they are basically restraining Trump from finishing the job. For them, it’s better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.
As i recall the context the qumari defense minister had orchestrated an attack on a west coast bridge and bartlett had set an ambush for him in bermuda
That was a different, later plot line.
The proportional response one concerned what the US response would be to the shooting down of the President's personal physician's plane over "the Middle East".
Of course, Sorkin salted the story with the facts that said physician's plane was a diplomatic mission, and that the doctor & wife had just had a baby daughter.
Those of you who support Trump's strategy are lucky in that you will never have to face or justify the results of your strategy, if you have one. You can continue to pick at every positive, no matter how transitory, and you can ignore the costs no matter how substantive. That's a safe plan. So far, it's easy to imagine how we could have accomplished what little we have with Iran and the larger Middle East with much higher loss of life, but I'm open to listening.
Howard that doesn't even make sense. The strategy that is actually followed is the only one that is ever exposed to reality and history. It's the only one that has to be defended. The alternatives disappear into shouldawoulda land.
Achilles says: This is all attention span management
Yes, exactly. Donald Trump, the US military and our actions against Iran are just a giant cover story and delay tactic so that Israel can continue to consolidate and neutralize the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon threats. Houthi going to believe, Netanyahu or you're lying eyes?
"I think it's accurate remembering that when Democrats are in charge and our military is engaged, that the Right mostly resists the temptation to pine for failure and minimize success. We are not the same."
Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war.
Bag O: You fail to appreciate or understand that living in the isolated protected Disneyland of the United States, no matter what we do overseas, none of us (with the exception of the suckers that enlist in the military while the rest of their generation continues to party and bang their girlfriends) are going to have to pay any real price for our mistakes.
My prediction: Trump will announce a new cease fire by the end of the week. The best cease fire in history. This will be a cease fire like the world has never seen. He will also tell us a deal is "very close." The Strait of Hormuz is going to be open and Trump is turning the nuclear dust into bitcoin! And the gang of Althouse retards will believe him. 😅
I should see if there Kalshi is taking bets on this. It's too predictable.
Yes, Howard, that's the objective. It's always the objective: using your military to prevent damage to your civilians and your home. Right now, it's preventing nuclear war and Islamic control of the Persian Gulf, which would take the damage far beyond military losses, which we have managed to keep amazingly low. The alternative would be the mistake.
hi! i'm Brain Damaged (Traumatic Brain Injury in 2000), so i'm not very fast.. could some tell me, about a circumstance? where it EVER helped the USA to agree to a cease fire? i mean; like EVER? Again; i have had memory lapses, so maybe i've forgotten one. But it SEEMS LIKE, nothing Good EVER comes from cease fires. could someone help me out? Please list links and/or dates THANX!
Right now, it's preventing nuclear war and Islamic control of the Persian Gulf, which would take the damage far beyond military losses, which we have managed to keep amazingly low.
The people who are chicken littling the supposed Iranian nuclear program are the exact same Top Men that lied to us about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Why do we believe these liars this time? How are we so certain that this time they are telling us the truth and not exaggerating? Do you remember these same Top Men telling us that that the Iranian nuclear program was completely obliterated last year? Were they lying then or are they lying now? Was Liz Cheney right all along? Do you owe her an apology?
Trump is spending a lot of political capital to get an agreement with the regime, so that he can avoid destroying the country to get one. That's not what Israel wants. Israel wants them gone permanently for obvious reasons, so Trump is hurting himself by specifically NOT doing Israel's bidding. I think Trump is being naïve about the Islamists. They have never negotiated in good faith, ever, and they will not now. Trump is going to be forced to do exactly what he does not want to do. Not because Israel wants him to, but because the regime insist on it. We never seem to understand the level of dishonesty that the Islamist ideology embraces and uses so effectively against the west.

Are you a retard now too? Did tha Jooooooosss get you Howard? Are the joooooooosss eating your brain and making you stupid?
You are smart enough to go look up Sykes-Picot and know what is really going on here.
I don't give a fuck who owns lebanon or palestine or the levant or what is currently Israel.
I do know that most of the muslims that live in that area are cousin fucking pedophiles who commit female genital mutilation as part of their culture and rape most of their children whether they are male or female and sell them like cattle.
The Jews are on our side now. I would rather the Persians were in charge of Iran.
The Shia are a death cult. Hamas and Hezbollah are part of the Shia death cult.
Everything else is just idiocy and virtue signaling. If you want to let tha Jooooooosss melt your brain that will just mean you are just another retard not worthy of respect.
"I think it's accurate remembering that when Democrats are in charge and our military is engaged, that the Right mostly resists the temptation to pine for failure and minimize success. We are not the same."
Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war.
That is because Barrack Obama was trying to get as many of us killed as possible.
I had to deal with the change in ROEs between Bush and Obama. It was obvious that Obama wanted us to lose and wanted as many of us killed as possible.
Obama and everyone who supported him was a fucking traitor.
Trump wants to collapse a 3,000 year old civilization for his boss, Netanyahu's re-election, and to keep his boss out of jail for corruption. Oh yeah, and to steal their oil. I wonder how Hitler sold the idea of taking Poland to his population? they are subhuman anyway? Poles are not part of the "master race," so we will be all rich!
"... are the exact same Top Men that lied to us about weapons of mass destruction..."
First of all, it's not "the exact same Top Men", and the threat is entirely different. The threat WAS that Iran was going to develop enough military strength and missile capability to hold the Gulf hostage and would use that capability to prevent their nuclear weapons program from being restricted or attacked in the future. They were clearly getting there quickly, and when they did, they would be able to launch nuclear weapons into Israel or others, which has long been their obsession. Trump was obviously informed that the possibility of preventing that was disappearing quickly, and it was now or never. That seems perfectly plausible to me, and the risk was too high to ignore. Maybe you don't buy it, but the evidence is even clearer now than before the operation started, and the risk of getting it wrong couldn't be bigger. What dead or retired people got right or wrong decades ago is irrelevant data to the decision today.
"Europe's feeds are full of riots and street violence these days. The media's staying quiet on something else happening in Paris. Iranian exiles and supporters are holding a massive rally at Place Vauban on June 20. Organizers expect well over 100,000 people. These are men and women who got out of the regime, and they're showing up in a peaceful, tightly organized way to protest the executions back home. So, why the silence from the media?"
Trump wants to collapse a 3,000 year old civilization for his boss, Netanyahu's re-election, and to keep his boss out of jail for corruption. Oh yeah, and to steal their oil. Are you really saying the Shia Mullahs in Iran are a 3000 year old civilization?
Read your bible Achilles, Persia is an ancient civilization. In 1953 we overthrew their democratic government and took control of their oil and kept control with brutality including torture, this is all well known. Search term: project Ajax, SAVAK.
On 1979 they took back their country, and for 47 years we have been attacking them to regain control of their oil. If the mullahs are what it takes to keep their country, most secular people there are going to support them, so yeah, it’s the same civilization and we started the disruption of it because certain cronies of our leaders wanted to get even richer. Meanwhile working stiffs are sent to the other side of the world to fight and die, when we are behind two oceans, like George Washington said, and have the resources we need in North America.
We set Saddam against them and gave him chemical weapons, 500,000 Iranians were killed because we wanted their oil back. Open a history book because Fox News is not going to give you the truth.
I have heard firsthand stories of the holocaust, my mother’s grandparents starved to death laying in their bed because they couldn’t get help getting food during Nazi occupation, and I can plainly see which side is using these methods. Not sure what is bad about being Dutch.
Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war.
Wishing for a particular President to lose the next election is not remotely comparable to hoping that his use of American military power fails and that American servicemen die, which leftists do at the top of their lungs these days, and have done since the Vietnam War.
Hell, if the Molotov-Von Ribbentrop Pact had still been operative at the time the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the Left would have been saying the same things about going to war against their German allies.
Hell, if the Molotov-Von Ribbentrop Pact had still been operative at the time the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the Left would have been saying the same things about going to war against their German allies.
Where did you learn history? You are just 100% wrong.
"Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war." No, it was Mitch McConnell who said: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” Rush Limbaugh famously said, “I hope he fails.” By which Rush meant he wanted Obama’s policies to fail, certainly not the country or Obama personally.
Read your bible Achilles, Persia is an ancient civilization. In 1953 we overthrew their democratic government and took control of their oil and kept control with brutality including torture, this is all well known. Search term: project Ajax, SAVAK.
Read your bible you fucking retard you will find absolutely nothing about Shia Islam there.
That is because Shia Islam didn't exist 3000 years ago.
It is just annoying that dumbfucks like Tim are arguing against putting Persians and their 3000 year old culture back in charge of Persia and they want the murderous barbarian Shia Islam cult to stay in charge.
And then he has the gall to make these completely bad faith arguments about attacking the people of Iran.
Asking "Where did you learn history?" while displaying your own gross ignorance is hilarious. The fact is that many prominent Americans vehemently opposed FDR's rearmament in 1939-41, and also opposed Lend-Lease and other efforts to help Britain against the Nazis. They did so because they were Communists or fellow-travelers, Hitler was allied with Stalin, and they supported Stalin and his allies. They didn't give a damn about the welfare of their fellow Americans, much less the bombed Britons and the occupied nations, they supported whatever Stalin wanted.
They all turned on a dime the day Hitler invaded the USSR, immediately criticizing FDR for not doing enough to oppose Hitler and support the Allies, now that the USSR was one of them, writing patriotic ballads, forbidding their fellow-Communists to strike, and much more. Read the Wikipedia article on Pete Seeger: "Copies of 'Songs for John Doe' [his anti-war, anti-FDR album] were removed from sale, and the remaining inventory destroyed, though a few copies may exist in the hands of private collectors." Hassayamper's alternative-history guess (2:58pm) is utterly plausible.
I've never understood why calling someone a female sexual orifice, as D. D. Driver does at 3:15pm, is supposed to be an insult. We all owe our lives to one, and the vast majority of us find them to be things useful and very pleasant either to have (straight women), or to derive sexual pleasure from someone else's (straight men), or both (gay women). Most gay men have no use for them personally, but no objection to others having and/or using them. Using c-nt as a curse makes you sound like one of those relatively few gay men who are genuine misogynists: a nasty, bitter bunch of woman-haters with mother issues, in my thankfully limited experience.
I don't understand why lefties think this is some horrible sentiment.
It's because Rush wanted to wait until Obama's term was over and remove him through a proper, scheduled election.
Today that's "leaving the terrible man in charge", so the election must be overturned by calling for never-ending impeachments and assassination attempts.
"Why did Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton say he'd seen no evidence of voter fraud in California?"
He's trying to win in a state that prefers to be lied to. If you tell an abused woman that her man is an asshole, she'll probably come at you like a spider monkey.
If we did hit their water supplies in Sirik, it was not just because of a helicopter.
In recent days Iran has conducted a number of strikes: June 3, Kuwait Intl Airport terminal 1 resulting in 1 civilian death and 63 injuries. They also hit Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait (a key facility hosting US and coalition forces) and targets in Bahrain. June 7, Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel. June 9-10, US Fifth Fleet / bases in Bahrain. Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait. al-Azraq base in Jordan, targeting F-35-related facilities). Iran claimed ~21 attacks total in the last 30 days, not including attacks on merchant ships, which have been numerous.

Proportional responses drag out the violence and get more people killed.
A Roman citizen could walk from one end to the other of the Empire, confident in his person, knowing that if he were harmed, there would be a response and a Legion would descend on the region to exact retribution for his death.
FAFO
Now let's see what Trump does.
What did President Sheen do? I've never seen West Wing.
Great, we will 'completely destroy' their military ability yet again this year.
Boy cries wolf yet again. At some point y'all are going to catch on.
Proportionality is the enemy of deterrence.
Or, proportional my ass.
The problem with this episode of The West Wing is that they ended up doing a proportional response.
Trump's failure to secure a deal in Iran raises new questions about Biden's foreign policy.
@Dave Begley: What’s your latest projection for when Trump’s Extended Excursion in Iran will be over?
And the underlying assumption of both the TV show and Trump's tweet is wrong. Our engagement in syria (TV show) and Iran (reality) were completely voluntary on our part. We are the aggressors. Iran did nothing to us, and we attacked them. So all this death and destruction is on our head. Now, when they fight back, we're getting all huffy and angry and we're going to show them!
Just absurd and amoral.

One plus side of modern warfare is that the generals now face as much mortal risk as the grunts. That's unequivocally a good thing.
You know, 500 to 1 is also a proportion. Just saying.
IEE:
Hey, I just used the same technique that Al Gore used about CAGW and it was a mistake.
I should have said "soon" rather than a date certain.
Trump’s biggest weakness is believing all our adversaries are sane and would agree to a mutually beneficial deal. I’ve seen little evidence of this. In fact, just the opposite. At this point, I’m just waiting to see how long he drags this out before moving to the inevitable next step.
"...You know, 500 to 1 is also a proportion. ..."
If they're digging out their missile capability, then bomb them again, re-bury them and make sure to hit all the heavy construction equipment too.
I hear the war is almost over. Iran has agreed to all of our terms. Unconditional surrender. Art of the Deal motherfuckers!
Hiroshima was hardly a proportionate response to Pearl Harbor, but it won the war and saved American lives, which is what counts in war. No American should be asked to die on a Japanese beach to save Japanese lives.
Honestly, how badly must Joe Biden have screwed this up that not even a master negotiator like Donald Trump can resolve it?
"These guys wanna make a deal so badly, it's unbelievable. Two weeks. Maybe sooner."
Donald Trump, who has successfully negotiated the end of twelve wars, over a hundred trade deals, and countless legal settlements.
Too bad Trump isn't president with the complete and unfettered power to decide on the nature and intensity of the response.
War is about ending the war.
and that show was written by liberals for liberals.
"If you see someone assembling and loading a gun right in front of you and you know they intend to shoot you with it, do you wait until they do?"
The 'Imminent Threat doctrine' says we have to wait until he points the loaded gun at your face.
Leftie political leaders run home at the end of the day to jerk off to The West Wing. They love every word and see themselves as the characters. Trump ruined it. Now what are they gonna do?
…plus Joint Chief JJ’s dad!!!

If we know where they are, I don't understand why we don't take out all of the military installations along the Strait. The only reason I can see is concern over the democrats in congress.

Don't take unserious people seriously.
The Iranian military is gone. What we are fighting is the IRGC. Muslim religious fanatics.
The IRGC needs to be put out of business, which should help to quiet their Democrat allies in Congress. Lord knows they’ve lost any sense of honor, leadership, or loyalty.
Qeshm Island has become an underground missile fortress.
Bandar Abbas, Jask and other targets were also hit.

Pretending there are rules for warfare to which all sides will adhere is folly. “Proportional response” is more foolish than most. Response to what?

In the middle of the night Trump heard the glass breaking downstairs. His wife was begging him to just stay with her and hide in the closet, but he knew his kids were in the other rooms and in danger, so he got up and rained hell on the intruders before they could get their evil started. Yea, if he had no kids, maybe he could stick to "me first" and hide in the closet, but that would mean trusting the intruders to be kind, but there had been a long running rash of beak-ins and murder in the neighborhood.

If Israel were a weak nation unable to defend itself against a nation that wants to totally destroy it without mercy, would people still want us to stay out of it and just watch it happen? How about if it wasn't Jewish?
Israel IS a nation completely incapable of defending itself without the political, financial, and military assistance of the United States.

"Israel IS a nation completely incapable of defending itself without the political, financial, and military assistance of the United States."
Yep, just like most of the world.
Is Randy "Two-ton" fine in the comment section? It appears so.

Israel's GDP is $700+ billion. US aid to Israel is $4 billion. I wouldn't be so sure they would be helpless.

"If you are the male head of your household, the strongest, most capable defender, you get stuck defending your family."
The world is not America's "household"...and it sure as shit ain't its family.

"We broke it, we bought it."
We broke what!?!
Democrats want to fight Russians, who are sitting on trillions in oil, Republicans want to fight Muslims, who are sitting on millions in oil.
"Who are more religiously fanatical than Christian and Israeli Zionists?"
I'd say the ones who believe everyone but them should die or be slaves. Just my take.

He keeps lying that there's a deal to keep the price of oil down while he sets the Persian Gulf on fire.

Are you going to be honest about why Trump is setting the Persian Gulf on fire?
Are you a Chinese or British agent?
Are you going to be a completely dishonest piece of shit and deny that there are no other players in the Middle East?
We already know the answer. You are a dishonest piece of shit who refuses to accept reality and you are here in bad faith.
You are just tiresome at this point.
I think they tried to impeach him over that it had echoes of the ibn awad plot in the better angels
In that story the liberal president had orchestrated an attack against a terrorist prince who was threatening the west wity nukes

The war is estimated to last at least another 120 imminent peace agreements.
Historians will refer to this as the Cease Fire War.
It's a wild ride from Trump isn't doing anything to he's doing too much, back and forth, over and over.
Fixed it for ya, Bag O'Hydro:
10:30 @ Bagoh.
i'd like an answer from the local Obama boot lickers.

Sounds good to me.
The left Dinky types - prefer our military hardware sit under dust covered tarps.
The alternative would be the mistake.
hi!
i'm Brain Damaged (Traumatic Brain Injury in 2000),
so i'm not very fast..
could some tell me, about a circumstance?
where it EVER helped the USA to agree to a cease fire?
i mean; like EVER?
Again; i have had memory lapses, so maybe i've forgotten one.
But it SEEMS LIKE, nothing Good EVER comes from cease fires.
could someone help me out? Please list links and/or dates
THANX!
People who have been clueless: yadda yadda

I do know that most of the muslims that live in that area are cousin fucking pedophiles who commit female genital mutilation as part of their culture and rape most of their children whether they are male or female and sell them like cattle.
The Jews are on our side now. I would rather the Persians were in charge of Iran.

"... are the exact same Top Men that lied to us about weapons of mass destruction..."
Didn’t Obama say “If they come after you with a knife, go after them with a gun?”

We are hitting their water supplies because of a helicopter
Keep digging what is dutch for idiot
"We are hitting their water supplies because of a helicopter"

90% of middle east drinking water is desal. Perhaps Iran just got justification for them to hit allied plants gulf wide.
BTW, the rest of the world is getting sick of this and fewer and fewer foreigners are buying US bonds, driving up the cost of borrowing.
"Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war."
I don't understand why lefties think this is some horrible sentiment. Of course he wants his guy in the White House in the next term. Shockers.

"Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war."
No, it was Mitch McConnell who said:
“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
Rush Limbaugh famously said, “I hope he fails.”
By which Rush meant he wanted Obama’s policies to fail, certainly not the country or Obama personally.

Read your bible you fucking retard you will find absolutely nothing about Shia Islam there.
That is because Shia Islam didn't exist 3000 years ago.
You are just so fucking stupid and annoying.
Why did Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton say he'd seen no evidence of voter fraud in California?
It is just annoying that dumbfucks like Tim are arguing against putting Persians and their 3000 year old culture back in charge of Persia and they want the murderous barbarian Shia Islam cult to stay in charge.
And then he has the gall to make these completely bad faith arguments about attacking the people of Iran.
Doesn’t he know that the absence of evidence of fraud proves that there was fraud?
Who knew we had some many esteemed war generals - with decades of experience - amongst our leftist commenters here?
I bow to their vast knowledge. For they surely know what's going on more than all those numbskulls in the Trump Administration.
If we did hit their water supplies in Sirik, it was not just because of a helicopter.
In recent days Iran has conducted a number of strikes:
June 3, Kuwait Intl Airport terminal 1 resulting in 1 civilian death and 63 injuries.
Rush Limbaugh famously declared his intent that Barack Obama be a one term president, all while we were at war.
Which has absolutely nothing to do with the point he was making.
Try again.
