"The series was adapted into a 2007 film that was nominated for the Academy Award for best animated feature. 'Persepolis,' the author Fernanda Eberstadt
wrote in a New York Times review, 'dances with drama and insouciant wit,' its inky black-and-white drawings modeled on both contemporary comics and Persian miniatures.... Not quite two decades later, Ms. Satrapi set to work documenting another tumultuous moment in Iranian history: the unrest in 2022 that followed the death, in police custody, of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, who had been detained and accused of violating a law requiring women to wear the hijab in public. In protest, women across Iran tore off their veils, in one of the most significant cultural and political moments in the country since the 1979 revolution...."
From
"Marjane Satrapi, the Author of ‘Persepolis,’ Dies at 56/Her popular graphic novel series, published in the early 2000s, followed an Iranian girl through the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War" (NYT).
The obituary quotes Satrapi: "Even basic human rights, they deny us. You don’t have the right to dance, you don’t have the right to sing, you don’t have the right to do this, you don’t have the right to do that."
The NYT obituary doesn't say how Satrapi died, but at Deadline,
it says: "'Marjane Satrapi died of sadness a little over a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life,' read a statement from close friends and family announcing her death on June 3...."

Death is a singularity, a black hole with an event horizon.
What about the "wage gap?"
Don't the Iranians know what is important?
Sorry she died so young, but it often happens that one spouse dies fairly soon after they lose their husband/wife. Its usually the husbands.
But she was not "Iranian" she was "French-Iranian". She lived in Paris, her husband was a Swede, and her parents were upper class "leftists" who fled when the Shah left. I assume none of the "Millions" who read her books were Iranian.

You mean when the shia mullahs took over and made women property turning a persian country into an islamic country murdering thousands of people.
With both my sets of grandparents, when one died, the other died a year later. With one, the husband died first. With the other, the wife died first.
Until the end of love.
Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.
(Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Meeting in Qom, “Broadcast by radio Iran from Qom on 20 August 1979,” quoted in Amir Taheri, The Spirit of Allah [1985], p. 259)
I saw the movie. I vaguely remember that it was pretty good.....I guess that now that the IRGC is firmly opposed to Trump, feminists with a proper sense of priorities will dampen their hostility to the Iranian regime. Maybe Code Pink can start showing up in hijabs instead of pussy hats to show their solidarity with the Iranian regime.
This 2024 DJT voter is still 100% happy with DJT.
Where I am disappointed is that it looks like DJT will let the Mad Mullahs stay in power.
The Iranian revolutionaries killed fewer people then Israel murdered in Gaza in the last couple years. And they killed traitors, political enemies, and members of the secret police. The israelis just murdered aid workers, journalists, clerics, women and children. And Israel is doing the same in Lebanon in 2026.
Somehow, all this "concern" over deaths in Iran 45 years ago, doesn't translate into caring about Arabs and Christians killed by Israel. Funny dat.
People in Muslim countries, like Islam. They arent forcing me to convert. Their country, their rules.
Meanwhile, Israel demands my tax dollars go to pay for their bombs and napalm. And the USA turn a blind eye to their war crimes.
Per Google: "The phenomenon of a surviving spouse passing away shortly after their partner is officially known as the "widowhood effect". Studies show that recently widowed men are significantly more vulnerable, facing up to a 70% higher risk of mortality within the first year compared to married men."
That'd make sense, usually men rely on their wife to take care of things around the house. And my mother and aunts were the ones always nagging "The men" to go to the Doctor and watch their diet.
It's sad. The entirety of the Middle East is sad. The state of life for Iranians is sad.
RCOCEAN II's brain is also sad. And his knowledge of the history over the centuries for the area known as Israel is sad. This recent war, and Israel's response didn't start in a vacuum. And history didn't begin on Oct. 8, 2023.
I won't rehash it here. You can do his own homework. It's time you learned something. Here's a starting point. Though...it might require a payment. But don't worry, it doesn't hurt to learn. Europe is the new Israel- Twenty Gazas in the making.
Cue the Iransplaining from Ronaldo PsychoWard, KKKak/Richsockpuppet/paidActbluetrollaccount(TM), Groomergadfly, and PedoFredo as to why women oppressed and denied basic rights under the islamist rape/ murder death cult theocracy are better off...

Yeah too stupid for words

Yes, widows do relatively well. My maternal grandmother lived another 30 years after my grandfather died, and had a successful antiques business. My paternal grandmother outlived my grandfather by 10+ years.
A famous example is Mozart's wife, who lived more than 50 years after his death, and also became quite successful off her deceased husband's memory (selling his manuscripts, producing concerts, etc.).
Are any major media doing stories about what life is like in Iran today?
Everyone blathers about how the IRGC is holding on and making things hard for Trump, but what is actually happening in Iran?
Yet American leftists stand shoulder to shoulder with the Islamic male supremacists who keep these women and girls in chains.

RC displays a remarkable lack of self awareness. I bet he still doesn’t get it.

Gibberish and just another attempt at derailment.
Broken heart syndrome (medically known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy) is a temporary, stress-induced weakening of the heart muscle. It is usually triggered by intense physical or emotional stress, causing the heart's main pumping chamber to change shape. Despite mimicking a heart attack, there are no blocked arteries, and most people recover completely.

I told you he still doesn’t get it.
I love the animated movie she made of the book. I was surprised to see the book as required reading for the charter school in my town.
It's depiction of real tyranny is important. These days the real stuff seems to be sidelined in favor of discussing fake repression.
The “regime” in Iran is monstrous, not only in the way most Islamist regimes are monstrous, but in its sponsorship of terrorism worldwide. There was a time when even Democrats would have applauded efforts to stop them. Instead, they applaud Obiden’s effort to finance them.
Few commenters use more words to say less . . .
Jersey Fled wrote: “RC displays a remarkable lack of self awareness. I bet he still doesn’t get it.” This is not true on all topics. RC suffers from Jew Derangement Syndrome (JDS). He becomes a blathering idiot on matters Jewish. As with TDS, sufferers are unaware of the affliction.
The same people who enable the ayatollahs want to destroy this country
Yeah, I get it alright. Low effort trolling.
If you're too stupid and lazy to actually make a point, or engage in debate, you write ambigious or cryptic sentences.
Standard Troll 101.
Reminds me of the libtard commenter at BHTV would do the same thing. He somehow thought he'd won a victory when he got people to respond or try to understand his crytic posts. Other times, hed talk in circles or write nonsense, and celebrate when some conservative guest tried correct his crap.
Bottom line is he didn't have the brains to argue so he trolled. I forgot what his name was, he was big pal of Blow Joe O'keefe. Bob Wright was upset when he died. I wasnt.
Facts are not trolling

You just aren’t a serious person.
The jooooosss are rotting your brain.
RCO, 12:37: “If you're too stupid and lazy to actually make a point, or engage in debate, you write ambigious or cryptic sentences.” Just a reminder, spewing the modern equivalents of blood libels against Jews isn’t really making a point or engaging in debate about Israel.
When has a sad goes bad.
Persepolis is nothing less than a masterpiece, a timeless treasure on par with other graphic novels and animation such as Maus.
People close to Satrapi told Agence France-Presse that the French-Iranian national had “died of sadness” -- it says it all... notwithstanding the great success she felt uprooted in a foreign country.
The story of Fernanda Eberstadt reminded me of a co worker. Her daughter had a very good marriage. They raised two children, and just as they were considering retirement, her husband died suddenly. Heart. She was despondent. A couple of years later she lost control of her motorcycle. The death was ruled an accident, but my coworker was convinced her daughter had committed suicide.
“I kept telling her she had to move on. She couldn’t let what happened destroy her life.”
Then she paused. “Now I have to take my own advice.”
