"The whole art gallery art system became too big, too commercial, too impersonal and too corporate. We all know it’s true."

"We really are finding our soul. And that means having the number of artists that you can perform extraordinary things for. It means just the really core relationships," Glimcher explained.

One of the artists who got cut is Glenn Kaino, who said: "It’s been clear to me for a while that their model was optimized for a vision of the art world that never materialized. The art I create is concerned with the world and our place in it.... I’m a romantic about good, meaningful art creating value, and not the other way around...."

LOL!

The best selling painter as far as income goes in the last decade was...?

Hunter Biden.

Art is finished. Anyone can go on Kling or any of the good composer LLMs and make pictures and art now and it turns out fantastic stuff.

The whole art gallery system was propped up by NGO thievery and womyn's wage gap jobs anyways. Time for all of that to go.

"Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" - credit to either Martin Mull or Frank Zappa. Both are musicians I respect and still listen to.

No wonder most artists are anti-capitalists. The restaurant business is also notoriously tough.

Alternate:
How the F am I supposed to support myself if no one will buy my fabulous art?
Don't you know I'm the real artist...a genius. Not those hacks that actually SELL things.

The fact that Hunter's paintings sold is no surprise. Payola rarely is. It is that expert (ha) art critics actually wrote that it was worthwhile art.

I happened to see Glenn Kaino's sculptures/installations at MassMoca a few years ago. I can see why they fired him. It's not as though the art was meh, some of it was very good. However, what struck me about it was it seemed to be very, very expensive to install and took up a tremendous amount of space. Also, where will one intentionally decides to use art to make a political statements, it automatically becomes propaganda.

I think much of the artwork credited to Hunter Biden is very good. Kind of a mashup between David Hockney, Gustof Klimt and Maxfield Parrish. Of course buyers of it paid inflated prices to gain access to his father.

What way is the other way around?

Paintings as dull as hell. Not art in my world.

Hunter Biden's art sold because of a corrupt system that build it. Ponzi scheme art. Chi com buyers ready for pay to play access. greedy democrats willing to sell anything . and sell the US down the river. Same Ukraine/Burisma type grift that the Bidens set up to line their pockets.
You'll be impeached if you dare ask about it.

The art world is still vibrant with talent.

So are painters of Elvis on black velvet. Get over yourself.

It’s hard to be an artist. So much great work from the past. To be innovative is hard. To create something innovative & interesting is harder.

There's only so many times you can épater la bourgeoisie before the bourgeoisie start to épater back.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of corrosive, degenerate parasites.

Indeed. Originals by kitsch merchants like Thomas Kinkade and Bob Ross sell for eye-watering amounts of money these days, and there are people who collect paintings of dogs playing poker and smoking cigars. Those have real value. More than a lot of what passes for "art" nowadays.

I thought it was crap indistinguishable from heaps of crap churned out by "real" artists, including Hockney and Parrish, so equally worthless in my eye.

Klimt actually had talent and I don't see how he can be mentioned in the same breath as Hunter Biden.

Glenn Kaino's art doesn't look bad, but I wish he had the 睾丸 to resist being shoehorned into a show "The Shape of Power: Stories of Race and American Sculpture."

It was an efficient way to do money laundering too. Crook A has dirty overseas money he needs to give to Crook B so it can be onshored and made clean. So B buys a piece of art from an "undiscovered" artist for a pittance, A pays some art critic on the sly to hype him up, then the painting goes to auction and A buys it for a ludicrous amount of money, coming from a dodgy bank in the Cayman Islands. Sotheby's takes a cut, and Crook B receives a wire to his American bank from a reputable auction house. Phantom losses can be generated for tax evasion purposes by running the scam in reverse.

The whole merry-go-round is a corrupt joke. Art is shit, and artists are parasites.

People noticed that bananas and gaffer tape are both cheaper at Walmart.

Hassayamper said...

Gaffer's tape is a hundred times better than duct tape for most purposes. Hell, Howie's hockey tape is better than duct tape. Duct tape is garbage.

Peachy said...

duck tape is useless even for ductwork.

tho - this brings to mind an old neighbor from a while back.
Her daughter was really artistic. her high school project in art class - she made a portrait of herself with duct tape. It was amazing. Not just saying - it wasn't krafty - it was very skilled.

"duct" tape
