Swalwell says he's "deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past" and he "must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make"...

... but he's also determined to "fight the serious, false allegation made against me." He's fighting and it's false but he's sorry and he did make mistakes and he's got to take responsibility and he is resigning from Congress.

Does it seem incoherent? Not if you see it all in terms of "distraction": It's "wrong," he says, for him to be "distracted from my duties." The fighting will need to take place where we won't care about it anymore — on the outside of any campaign or political office. And now, presumably, we don't need to think about Swalwell for one more second. He has become nobody. Move on. That went by fast.

ADDED: Tony Gonzales, the Republican Congressman, is also resigning, also based on a sexual accusation (NYT link).

Not to me. He committed adultery and he didn't rape anybody. That's my conclusion. We talk about this here and
here.

Of course, I wasn't there. I'm not omniscient. I might be wrong. But the rape allegation was a big lie. And now that he is out of the race? The media is calling it sexual misconduct.

But not rape or drugging victims to incapacitation and then raping them, right?

Calling somebody a rapist when he is not one is a monstrous thing to do.

Realpolitik, for all to see and appreciate, while the others savor.

Katie Porter, from the Lumpy Gravy Democrat party, must be feelin' pretty large right now. Still a lot of time to June 2nd though - but a lot of other candidates to be weeded out, too.

There's more than one allegation. Should we assume the others are true?

I guess since this is all done with, we can now move directly to passing the SAVE act, right? Right ?

Not that I feel bad for Gonzales either, but it sounds suspiciously like a deal was made—1 for 1.

Anybody who conspired to do this, San Francisco Chronicle, CNN, Katie Porter, some other Democrat running for governor, whoever coordinated those four "sexual assault" complaints and spoon fed it to the reporters, did a horrible thing to a human being. It's not as bad as being raped. But it's absolutely vicious and despicable.

Ah yes, must maintain the required political parity. Sure it’s about the sex or whatever the fuck they try and convince us it’s about..

I would be shocked if Katie Porker didn’t feel LARGE all the time. She’s a sow, but unfortunately for lonejustice, she’s not a Duroc.

He was an evil vicious little POS. Bigger issue what it has always been- these perverts get away with it, as long as they are useful to the uniparty. . We still have the Congressional slush fund.
Most of congress, on both sides of the aisle, would have to resign, or be hanged, if anyone actually investigated what they do.

It looks like California punishes rape lightly, with an 8 year maximum maximum sentence. And even if you get the maximum, you'll probably only serve a couple of years. I'm really shocked by that. Maybe I"m old-fashioned. But I remember when the punishment for rape was death. To me, rape is a horrific crime. It was almost as bad as murder. Now it's been reduced to one of the smaller felonies? To compare, according to AI, the maximum punishment for bank robbery is 20 years to life in prison.

How the hell is getting your bank robbed worse than getting raped?

i wonder IF, when swallowwell is no longer in Congress..
IF he will FINALLY release ALL THAT EVIDENCE that he SWORE
he had on Trump?
any predictions?

Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus. We can't say whether he raped her or he didn't. They each interpret the event differently. I wouldn't assume that his version was the correct interpretation or that there's any special reason to trust him.

When people accuse politicians of having some psychopathology I tend to dismiss that. It's just the way politics is. But I have to wonder if Swalwell's ability to reason and understand isn't so impared that a psychiatric diagnosis might not be out of place.

"mistakes in judgment"

Why isn't there an "e" in the middle of judgment? How on earth did that happen? You know, I'm willing to cut English a lot of slack since it comes from all sorts of other languages, but come on, decent people have to draw the line somewhere! Put an "e" in there @$^& it! The word clearly comes from the root "judge" so what happened to the "e"? If I gave you the letters "dgm" and told you they were consecutive letters in a real, honest to god, word, you would never guess the word. Has it always been this way?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Breaking News: Eric Swalwell announces he's starting a career as a cutesy-but-sexy female rock star, since unwanted genital exposure is apparently not an obstacle to continued success. CC, JSM

Something about this reminds me of the Wisconsin governor's race when Barbara Lawton bowed out of the race (with tears) in favor of Tom Barrett. It looked to me like orders came down from on high. This is looking like more of the same.

I haven't heard any cover this aspect about this situation, but imagine the blackmail potential that Fang Fang had.

Ann, your headline is misleading. He has not resigned from Congress as of 6:30 or so.

All he has done was say that he is going to resign from Congress but he has not said when.

He could change his mind next week and there is not a things to stop him.

I don't actually blame the Girl in the Shadows. She was blackout drunk, and does not remember what happened. She's been taught by feminists that girls who are blackout drunk cannot consent. And therefore she is a rape victim. And she said that for the camera. I actually feel a little sorry for her. She might go years thinking she was raped. That could mess up your life, even if it didn't happen. The emotional damage from thinking you were raped, ruminating on it, has to be heavy.

What really jumps out at me is how the "journalists" have now lost all interest in this story. They are no longer on the hunt for a rapist. They applied maximum pressure on Swalwell, and he caved. Now they want to cover it all up and make it go away. This story goes down the memory hole. Nothing to see here.

What if she really was raped? Media doesn't care. What about the search for truth? The media is laughing at you, from the shadows. And the lawyers. CBS actually named the influencer who was behind this: Cheyenne Hunt. How much was she paid?

It doesn't matter much. He's not running for Congress. So he's out by the end of the year, either way.

I can't go a week without Chesterton's famous line popping into my head: "It is terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hanged."

Aggie said...

@MadTownGuy, It still looks like that to me, as well. The fact that he's quitting the House too, apparently without a fight, so he can 'hunt for the real rapist and clear his name' suggests that there's a bombshell or two more that could be aired. I wonder if it's from a different direction, e.g. Tulsi declassifying more documents, or maybe Fang Fang's leverage is still 'live'.

Central Control didn't want their front-running candidate to continue in the race, and don't want him in Congress, either - and pronto. So he's become an object lesson to the others, do as you're told.

Christopher B said...

@Aggie and MadTownGuy, agree there's something hinky going on with both Swalwell and Gonzales going at the same time.

I suspect that a deal was made to keep that Florida Congresswoman, Shelia Cherfilus-McCormick, who was recently convicted of disaster aid fraud from being expelled, and it wouldn't surprise me if nobody looks into the possible fraud in the election of the Dem to the House seat in Trump's district.

It sounds like "pairing," the procedure of a member of one party who wants to avoid voting on an issue meeting up with a member of the other party who wants to avoid voting on the same issue, and each agreeing to abstain. That way they don't have the vote on their record but haven't let their own side down. If Gonzales weren't going, would Swalwell be going?
