Truth or falsity of the allegations aside, this is very convenient for California Democrats if it causes Swalwell to drop out. Gives the Democrats the opportunity to get one of their candidates solidly into the top two of the jungle primary. Which probably would have happened anyway, but the chance of the two Republicans being the only choices in the general is much higher if Swalwell stays in the primary.

Swalwell alleged he was at the top of the polls, and I mocked him for that in the cafe thread. But I found a March poll where he was indeed the #1 candidate for governor in California. #1 with a bullet, you might say, since his poll numbers went up every month.
He went from 12% in December to 14% in February to 17% in March in this poll. And Katie Porter -- who has more money than anybody in the race -- has been floundering. She was at 17% last year. She dropped to 11% in December, 10% in February, 8% in March.
So, apparently, she and her former law student, Cheyenne Hunt, cooked up this scheme to blow up the front runner right before voting starts.
The irony here is that Porter's desperate April surprise (the election is less than 30 days away) may indeed blow up the front-runner, Swalwell. But that actually makes it more likely that the top 2 spots in California might both be won by Republicans. Wow.
Actually - I think also- the Chinese Spy angle could be at work here.
Ditch Swalwell using "sex abuse" - the standard playbook of the left - but the real story is far more sinister and casts a chi com shaped shadow over more dems.

Hilton is a lock, in my opinion. (Trump endorsed him). So the eight Democrats are vying for that one other space. Whoever gets it, is the governor. That's their thinking.
Katie blew up the Democrat front-runner, Swalwell. How much he'll bleed out is an open question.
The Democrat party doesn't really give a damn which Democrat wins. Maybe they have opinions, but the main thing to the party is that the governor is a Democrat. It's unthinkable that two Republicans might be in the general.
They've been trying, more and more desperately, to nudge the bottom-feeders out of the race. That's Becerra, Mahan, Thurmond, Villaraigosa, and Betty Yee. Last week, the Democrats attempted an all-white debate stage. Horrible optics for the party of diversity. But that's the way it was, because they were all in the top people at the polls. Not surprisingly (because they are Democrats), the four minorities yelled "racism!" and "exclusion!" So the debate was cancelled. No debate.
So far, all the Dems are sticking in the race. This is driving the party mad, because two Republicans have been in the lead for months.
Swalwell is now a wounded duck. His polling numbers are likely to drop. The Democrats are all trying to push him out. Not only him, they want 4 or 5 other people to drop out, too. If they can get the Democrat field down to three or four people, the Democrats are in a lot better shape.
But I think/hope that Porter has miscalculated. Swalwell is down but not out. His numbers will drop. A lot of these single digit players (Porter is polling at 8% now) think they can grab a spot. But if Swalwell refuses to bail, then his odds of winning will drop sharply. And the possibility that two Republicans win dramatically increases.
It's funny to see why we call the leftist cultists - cultists.

I told you that the Democrats would thin the herd of gubernatorial candidates. In the last poll, both of the Republican candidates for governor were leading all the Democrat candidates. But both Republicans were only polling at a combined total of about 30%. If Eric Swalwell drops in the polls, and the next Democrat in line gets enough of his votes, that candidate, Probably Tom Steyer,, will knock one of the Republicans out of second place in the primary and then go on to win the general election with over 60% of the vote. (Since only the two top candidates advance to the general election.) Part of me hoped that the Republicans would pull off this win and the Democrats would immediately restore the old system where every leading candidate of each party advances to the general election. Spanberger got elected to Governor of Virginia by ignoring questions from her opposition and mouthing platitudes, but once in office, here came the blitz: Reversals of old Republican orders and implementation of the new ones, some of which have got conservative's heads spinning. But it's all so fast, there's almost too much to take on, process, and sink in. I think the voters are still a little dazed, which is a perfect result - if you're a Progressive.
Same thing with Swalwell. He probably woke up Friday morning thinking he had a good shot, but by the close of business, his campaign was smoking toast. The Blitz.
