Bluesky posts on its X account to remind us of its existence and admit that it has been what its whole point was not to be: toxic.

And meanwhile X has reported record traffic for the past two days. I assume by "doing work to make conversations less toxic and more civil" Bluesky means they are purging any comments and accounts that deviate from leftist orthodoxy.

Yes, calling Trump supporters "Nazis" isn't being toxic, it's just saying what needs to be said. I'm sure it's lovely and non-toxic for all the people who don't believe in borders and who are sure that the election was stolen from Harris.

Most people who want to live in a bubble lie to themselves. They deny that that is what motivates them. Rather, they want to surround themselves with intelligent informed empathetic people; people who see the world as clearly as they do and are as decent as them. Since all intelligent people think just like them, they have nothing to learn from being exposed to other ideas.

Blue sky is their platform.

We are the folk song army.
Every one of us cares.
We all hate poverty, war, and injustice,
Unlike the rest of you squares.

BlueSky
Soon to be gone
Shitting on BlueSky
From now on
A legion full of dim bulbs never been bright
Never saw things going so right
Reading all the drivel of kak, jaq and ‘fly
Fredo’s a gimp, ya know dat’s no lie

Blue Sky is the kiddy table at Thanksgiving.

It is where you send the kids so the adults can talk.

I see enough toxic leftism on X. I don't want to O.D.
I don't want it censored out from X either, but I wish they offered more than just an immediate insult to any argument offered. I get a lot of that from extremists on the right too, which is weird, because I consider myself extreme by modern norms.

I have a bluesky account and I have not yet been deleted.
We will see.

Why go to Bluesky or Reddit even, when their loyal readers bring their perverse ideas to comments sections everywhere?

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

So the "non-toxic" "alternative to Twitter" and allegedly safe space had to undertake great efforts to "make conversations less toxic and more civil." Is this what they call begging the question or just good old fashioned burying the lede.

Leland, I just got a 3 day ban from Reddit for suggesting that if WW3 broke out, I would respond by marching from Chicago to Atlanta, burning and pillaging.
Reddit moderators are famous for their historical ignorance and their lack of humour.

Joe Bar said...

Totally forgot about that place.

Whiskeybum said...

I can assure you, I have no “friends” on Bluesky.

Leland said...

Because I just commented on the ape/geometry theory post... Do the moderators lack humor, or do they recognize humor very well and hate being effectively mocked with it? Perhaps you should have just given them crystals to play with Fred.

It was always just a threat…and a bluff.

…right doesn’t go there because it gets censored. Left doesn’t go there because there’s nobody on the right to shit on…

In recent months I have noticed that the pushback I give to friends who post Trump-deranged comments on Facebook have largely gone silent. When they do post and I respond with a contrary opinion, neither they nor their friends longer rush to their defense.

One of these friends explained to me that they have all largely abandoned Facebook for Bluesky and no longer sign in to Facebook. I have attempted to find them on Bluesky, but they all seem to operate under pseudonyms. So I doubt the Bluesky has actually made it easier to find one's friends.

In truth I have given up all hope of breaking through their TDS, but I push back just so that other people know that there is no uniformity of opinion on matters like "gender-affirming care." I view it as my modest contribution to the preference cascade.

Love the Lehrer piece. Thanks Iman.
Lord Bluesky returns to his flock, ensuring the doors are closed. He removes his Mike Pence or Tucker Carlson mask, revealing a face distorted into a permanent sneer/snarl, perhaps an attempt at a smile. His left eye twitches, like Drefuss dealing with Clouseau.

When he has silence, he yells "Fuck Trump!" "Fuck Trump!" they reply. "We are the smart ones." Climate denial evil. Trans denial evil. Lab origin of Covid evil. Experts who question Trump all have credibility. Chinese regime good. If war goes on, Iranian regime good.

I thought the whole point of Bluesky was to be a "Safe place" for libtards. Where they could easily block/ignore anyone and make certain their tweets were only read by a selected few.

Matt said...

The far right on X is very toxic. The far left on BluSky is very toxic. Thats my assessment from reading posts on both. Republicans [apparently] hate Democrats. Democrats [apparently] hate Republicans They denigrate and ridicule each other endlessly. Anyone who is moderate is welcome to hang out and post on these sites but will usually be ignored. Toxic posts bring in more traffic. Meanwhile, in the real world most of us get along just fine with friends and colleagues / co-workers who don’t see the world through one particular narrow political lens or another. Welcome to the age of the internet….

So Bluesky is getting purchased by Musk as well...?

RCOCEAN II said...

Stephen King is one of the most popular guys on BlueSky. Typical tweet: "I would love MLB to leave Twitter (formerlyX). Elon Musk is a whites-come-first guy, and MLB is totally integrated."

King is like echt libtard. Loves cats, baseball, and R&R. Hates Christianity, working and middle class Americans, and anyone to the right of Obama. Calls everyone "raciss" and "Homophobes". And of course is a recovering drug addict and drunkard.

Bluesky has taken steps to be less toxic … and this time around Lucy will let Charlie Brown kick the football.

The dose makes the poison. It's up to the reader to consume less toxicity and read it more as humor. Maintain an even strain.

Most accounts on Twitter turn out to be Russian MAGA bots. Here’s why Bluesky has an intellectual diversity problem

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Ever since Musk changed X so we can click on someone and see from where they post, the Pakistani and Russian bots are fleeing the joint. AQs soon as you write "Hey you are posting this crap from Africa!" the turds turn tail and delete the account.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

No the Russian bots were spreading anti-MAGA shit like Kak does. If you find a pro-MAGA X account send us a link.

I understand staying on Twitter because it has a bigger audience. And I understand criticizing Bluesky users for doing things that hinder Bluesky from expanding.TBH, I miss all the crazy people from Twitter, the degrowthers, the tankies, the banana discourse people, the trad wives, catturd, the guy who doesn't believe in gravity...

Skeptical Voter said...

What did you expect. You set Bluesky up as a home for lefties--and you get toxic stuff. And the founders are surprised?

Little Excursion™️ said...

Twitter is owned by a fascist who deliberately manipulates the algorithms to promote far right messages. Here’s why Bluesky has an intellectual diversity problem. But acting like Twitter is some bastion of free speech or Bluesky is the work censor police….

pious agnostic said...

I'm old enough to remember when lots of conservatives "left" Twitter and joined Bluesky because it was considered more conducive to free speech.
