"Across Iran crowds took to the streets, playing music, honking car horns and cheering. Fireworks were set off and residents applauded at their windows."

"Raha, 42, who lives in the capital, said she had spent 'years' dreaming of news of the leader’s death, 'but it was nothing like the dreams I had imagined. I’m laughing, crying and shouting. The killer of my dreams, the killer of my youth, the killer of Iran’s most beautiful children is no longer breathing... I feel exhausted, like a soldier who has fought for hours and is suddenly told that the enemy is dead. I want to sleep for days — a deep, heavy sleep.' Alireza, 42, who also lives in the city, was similarly thrilled after US-Israeli missile strikes hit Khamenei’s compound on Saturday. 'I wish that in those moments when his residence was attacked and the rubble fell on him, he stayed alive for a few minutes — that he suffered, that he felt pain — remembering all the suffering he gave to millions of Iranians over all these years,' he said."

I’ve taken a pretty dim view of U.S. interventions, and I’m a Trump supporter. Yeah, the U.S. can probably enforce it’s immediate goals. The problem is what to do after that.

According to the NY Times, only Israeli jets struck the Tehran offices of the Ayatollah.

Israel, using U.S. intelligence and its own, would execute an operation it had been planning for months: the targeted killing of Iran’s senior leaders.

The operation began around 6 a.m. in Israel, as fighter jets took off from their bases. The strike required relatively few aircraft, but they were armed with long-range and highly accurate munitions.

Two hours and five minutes after the jets took off, at around 9:40 a.m. in Tehran, the long-range missiles struck the compound. At the time of the strike, senior Iranian national security officials were in one building at the compound. Mr. Khamenei was in another nearby building.

Forty seven years. I wonder whether any of those national security officials who died with Khamenei were among the young “students” who stormed the US embassy compound in 1979. They picked the fight with us, not us with them. This is a big step on the long road towards peace.

No doubt there are people in Iran who want to return Iran's oil to its rightful Western owners and ensure that the Strait of Hormuz is under strict Western control.

Jaq said...

in the 1953 "very British coup" as the BBC called it in its documentary, the oil was handed over to Western oil companies, and control of the country was handed to the West, and no greater evil could be imagined than an Iranian revolution that took their country back.

A lot of you are saying "what's your point?" Well, maybe it will work, who knows, I certainly don't.

But if anything goes wrong, well....

Do the comparisons to the colonial era hold water? What other similarities are there? It doesn't feel like colonial adventures, to me.

In a way that didn't use to be possible, Trump sent a message now, twice, that he can pick off a hostile nation's leadership without much collateral damage. This didn't use to be possible, but now it is. Trump is taking shipments of oil from Venezuela and putting them on the market, and giving the proceeds to the government, so I'm told. Has this been disputed? If not, then we know what the cash flow is, and I'm quite sure, can monitor the expenditure. 'Here, fix your country - we're watching what and where you spend it on.' Doesn't sound very colonial to me. Doesn't sound like oil wealth is being 'stolen'.

It looks more like, Trump understands what revenue streams are used for, by people who like to hide things, and he's not allowing it. And he understands the absolute bedrock common denominator of oil supply in the world economy and balance of power, as Daniel Yergin pointed out many years ago.

The internet informs me that "The phrase 'They're dancing on the Berlin Wall' is a memorable moment from the episode 'Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?' of The Simpsons. In this episode, Homer Simpson watches the fall of the Berlin Wall on television and decides to change the channel because he finds it boring. The phrase has since become a popular quote and is often referenced in various contexts."

Untold is whose missiles struck the girl's elementary school in Minab, which is located at the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. More than 100 deaths occurred.

However, an seemingly unrelated attack on a Palau-flagged oil tanker under U.S. sanctions was hit on Sunday off Oman's Musandam peninsula, injuring four people. The 20-person crew of the Skylight tanker was evacuated after the attack, which occurred about 5 nautical miles north of Musandam's Khasab Port, on the strategic Strait of Hormuz. So lots of happenings occured near the strait.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is currently operating in the Arabian Sea and has recently transited the Strait of Hormuz. Just saying , we may be at fault here.

No, it's not 'untold'. It was all over the news that it was an Iranian missile that misfired and fell on the school, as well as those like yourself, preferring to blame it on the USA. It's cowardly to imply that this hasn't been spoken to, it has. If you dispute that account, then have the backbone to say so, and state your case. Better, if you support it with links.

Iranians have a chance to liberate their country. They don't seem stupid, so presumably some thought has gone into this and they know it won't be easy.

The remaining clerics probably aren't as dumb as they look. They know that they have little outside support and Trump has a few more years.

If I had to make a bet, I'd say civil war in Iran is the most likely outcome, but that's just a guess. Maybe the people of Iran will take notice of the way things turned out in Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and Syria and figure out a better way. At any rate, I don't think they'll be devoting much of their energy and wealth to developing nuclear weapons.......I don't have any idea whether history will count this as a victory for Trump, but no historian will ever say that the Ayatollah was the big winner in this conflict.

A lot of discussion of the killing of 100 (probably by the regime), when it's almost certain that hundreds more would have been executed that day after 30,000 others in the previous weeks. Seems like a strange focus. 100 died, but thousands were saved. The desire to blame ourselves for the 100 while ignoring the saving of many more seems unhinged at best.

RCOCEAN II said...

Pathetic propaganda. The same MSM that said zero about 80000 women, kids, and old men being murdered in Gaza, and passes over in silence the almost daily Israeli war crimes in the West Bank, now gives us liberation propaganda.

Now the bombing the girls school in Iran and all the dead civilians are being passed over to give us rando Iranians "Celebrating" the assassination of their own countries leader by its enemies.

BTW, how many poeple know that Iran had Democracy in 1953, and we helped topple the Government and put in the Shah?

RCOCEAN II said...

The MSM constantly lies and covers up stories it doesn't like. You'd never know from reading the NYT"s that Esptein visited Clinton in the White House 17 times in the 90s. Or that Israeli security installed cameras and listening devices in Epstein's NYC Townhouse. Or that Epstein was involved in Iran Contra and was biggest cheerleader for attacking Iran.

This isn't King Williams war. Or Enders war. This is Epstein's war.

I suspect your comment is sarcasm but it bears repeating that Progressives aren't observing equivalence between the people they call Nazis, and actual Nazis. They are calling people Nazis to justify their extreme and kinetic opposition, regardless of their beliefs and actions.

Zionists and israel-firsters aren't content to assassinate foreign leaders and murder their families, they assassinate the truth as well.

Per BBC - At least 201 people have been killed in air strikes in Iran and 747 hurt since Saturday, the Iranian Red Crescent said.

Of course, not only did US/Israel kill the Iranian leader, they killed his daughter, grandson, and son-in-law. What precisely we accomplished by killing an 86 y/o man and his family is beyond me. Is there a shortage of leaders in Iran? Not that I'm aware of.

If the Germans had Killed FDR or stalin in WW 2, would the USSR/USA collapsed? If the UK had killed hitler in 1941, would Germany have surrendered? Of course not.

Why do we think the whole Irainian Government was ruled by one man? It has a parliment and elections. And a huge Governmental class.

I really wonder why the arabs/Iranians have been so reluctant to strike back against the USA/Israeli leadership and their families Once you play the Gangster, its hard to be sad when your side "Gets hit" Al Capone style.

Lots of them did, because besides being a thug he (Saddam) was a tribal leader, and the tribes were everything. And the big fight in Iraq was very religious, Sunni vs Shia. Most of the mass murders were Sunnis, over and over, blowing up masses of Shiites.
Very few Sunnis in Iran.
