I gave blood today. I was never exposed to/contracted CMV (cytomegalovirus) that young children get because I grew up somewhat isolated on a farm, though I did manage to catch the usual childhood diseases growing up. Therefore my blood is given to the babies. Donors who had CMV (cytomegalovirus) cannot have their blood given to babies.
The Red Cross lets me know which area of the country gets my donation. Most of the time it's Chicago or out East. There's a blood shortage now...give if you can.

So Trump is sending his envoy to Iran, which if it's anything like the last time, means that he is trying to lull them into dropping their guard, and is planning an attack to kill the people he is purportedly negotiating with.

It worked in Qatar, well, they didn't get who they wanted, but did manage to kill the bodyguards of the people we were negotiating with, and it worked in the 12 Day War, where we managed to kill politicians we were negotiating with and nuclear scientists because we had their phone numbers since they were cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Let's see if third time's the charm, and we manage to kill their Supreme Leader while we pretend to negotiate with him.

What Trump is demanding is that Iran drop all of its ability to protect itself from a country that attacked them without provocation during a pretense of negotiations. In other words, the demands are a poison pill, intended to be impossible for Iran to accept, so that Trump has his pretext for a war.

Let's see what happens when we back Iran into a corner where the very structure of their ancient country is at existential risk.

The part about delaying to upgrade the air defenses of our allies in the region is especially rich, who knew that the only reason that Trump wanted to end the Ukraine war was because it was eating up too many Patriot systems and interceptor missiles.

So basically both sides continue to arm up.

“During an extended monologue about immigration on a podcast released on Monday by Dan Bongino, his former deputy F.B.I. director, Mr. Trump called for Republican officials to “take over” voting procedures in 15 states, though he did not name them.

“The Republicans should say, ‘We want to take over,’” he said. “We should take over the voting, the voting in at least many — 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting.”

Mr. Trump’s escalated remarks about elections come at a moment when Democrats have outperformed the G.O.P. in a series of contests. New Jersey and Virginia elected Democratic governors in landslides in November, and on Saturday, a Democrat won a special election for a Texas State Senate seat by 14 percentage points in a district Mr. Trump had carried by 17 points in 2024, an enormous swing.”

Today in Omaha, the illegal alien killer of Sarah Root got the max sentence of 20 years. He was drag racing on a major street (about 5 miles from my office) and killed her.

This was 2016. Sarah was 21. She had just graduated from Bellevue University with a 4.0.

Trump met with her mom and other Angel Moms. Sarah’s Law was passed.

When Trump got back into office, the killer was tracked down in Central America and brought back. I’m sure the State Department worked on this. Biden did nothing.

Sarah might have joined my youngest at the University of MN Law School as they are about the same age.

Sarah’s death really shook me up. Trump brought the killer back. Totally worth voting for Trump. Man of action! Vigor in the Executive.

The Left claims that people without criminal records are being deported. So what? This killer didn’t have a criminal record before he killed Sarah Root. I know that as the county court judge set a small bail. He made bail and fled the country.

Deport them all.

When you are outside, you are radiating into the surroundings, whatever they are. But at night, upwards, your surroundings are the Universe. And the Universe is not radiating much back at you. At all. This is why wearing a hat helps a lot.
But this evening, I had some things to think about, and I wandered outside without a hat. My planetary avatar is high in the East, with Castor and Pollux. And I found found my thoughts clearing, congealing, perhaps. It occurred to me, that I was cooling my brains with the Universe.

Just point the top of your head at the Universe. It cools right down.

I no longer listen to Megyn Kelly because she's gone all Owens, but before she did that, she had an obviously correct point to make: regardless of the relative crime rates of illegal aliens versus citizens*, literally none of the crimes committed by illegal aliens would have been our problem to contend with if they haven't been here.

* As to crime rates. If crimes are committed against other illegal aliens who fear removal, what are the reporting rates? If the pro-no-deportation side can claim that a reduction in the rate of domestic violence reporting is a sign of people's fear of drawing attention to themselves, then why wouldn't that same metric apply to reporting rates for other crimes committed against them?

Jamie, the idea that deporting illegals reduces "crime" is dubious, unless you suppose that they will be less disposed to crime in the place where they were misbegotten than they are here. Deporting them just makes them commit their crimes in the countries they came from, rather than here.

The reality is, that we don't want them here. And since we can get rid of them, we intend to do so. Speaking for myself, I don't want Gavin Newsome here, either, and if I could arrange his deportation, I would. But there is no foreign country that is required to accept Gavin Newsome, more's the pity. He would be a real ornament to CECOT.

According to the Red Cross I've donated 203 times since moving to NY in 1994. Apparently they can't pull up the donations in the other 5 or 6 states I've donated in over the years. And today is the first time I've heard of CMV (cytomegalovirus). Apparently they test donated blood pn a regular (but random) basis. Estimates are only 15% of the adult population over 40 have never had it- and most are unaware that they had it. I don't know if 1. They've never tested me or 2. They tested and I had antibodies.

But they may not care so much about that since I switched to donating platelets a few years back. Tomorrow will be my 4th platelet donation of 2026.

Good on you for donating your special blood. Hope you max out each year in donations. When I was giving whole blood that was easy for me to do. 26 max a calendar year for platelets- a little harder to achieve. Even being retired now.

Two good reasons for giving blood if you can. 1. You are literally saving lives. 2. It's good for you. There are many reasons why it is good for you.

The investigation was opened in January last year by the prosecutors’ cybercrime unit, the Paris prosecutors’ office said in a statement. It’s looking into alleged “complicity” in possessing and spreading pornographic images of minors, sexually explicit deepfakes, denial of crimes against humanity and manipulation of an automated data processing system as part of an organized group, among other charges.”

2/2/26, 9:46 PM

Let’s play “What’s True And What Isn’t True”.

”Noah- just like you- lied about Trump visiting Pedo Island”

Did Trump in fact visit Pedo Island?

The fact is, we don’t know. Trump says he hasn’t but that “Trump says” is far from a closed case. To Trump’s credit, no flight records or proof has appeared.

Did Noah “lie” about it?

No, that would be factually false. Noah said; “Trump wants Song of the Year as much as he “wants Greenland”—which makes sense, “because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out on with Bill Clinton.”

Noah’s joke was not necessarily asserting a proven fact so much as using satire to comment on Trump’s past association with Epstein. Comedians often blur lines between insinuation and fact for humor, which is why legal experts say it’s not straightforward defamation if it’s clearly a joke. See NYT v Sullivan or Hustler Magazine v. Falwell.

Will Trump actually sue?

Fact is, we don’t know.

Unasked but would he win?

Fact is, unlikely based on precedent but again, we don’t know.

Fact- if Trump actually sued Trevor Noah over a joke like this and won a defamation judgment, it would effectively represent a serious contraction of the freedom of speech as we understand it in the U.S. legal system.

“Why is Trump so triggered by Trevor Noah?”

Opinion- other than being a thin skinned egomaniac, the lawsuit threat follows the cash grab tactics we’ve seen with lawsuit settlements with the media and universities. It’s better to settle than to risk further erosion of our constitution and rule of law norms. Just give the bully your lunch money so he won’t burn the cafeteria down.

So now the British press is trying to blame Epstein on Putin, that it was a Russian operation that led British politicians to forward Epstein secret inside information.

To some observers, and I agree, this suggests that British intelligence, just like Israeli intelligence, were connected with Epstein. Putin actually came out smelling like a rose, and the article in the Daily Mail even admits that there is no actual evidence that Putin was behind Epstein, just the perennial reason that people use to accuse Trump, or anybody else they don't like, which is "I wouldn't put it past him."

Jaq said...

"that our future ability to help Ukraine defend itself is compromised, so there is no better time than now to make peace."

This is certainly a logical take, I can't argue with it, but it's not only just Ukraine that is in dire need of air defense batteries and interceptors, it's Israel, Saudi Arabia, Oman, our own bases across the ME, and so just maybe we should stop stirring up hornet's nests everywhere in the world, that would by my take on the situation.

Jaq said...

Turns out that offensive missiles are cheap, and interceptors are expensive, and drones are even cheaper, and it's simple arithmetic that the offensive side is going to win, especially in a country that is as huge and mountainous and full of caves as Iran is, or one that takes up 1/6th of the land area of the globe, like Russia does, and offensive missiles are easy to hide.

Supposedly Iran can hide their missiles in civilian looking trucks, which they can then move around at night like a giant game of three cart monte.

Maybe it will be an easy war. Maybe Trump knows about ways around what looks like the plain and simple math of the situation.

The Jews made it a country. Most of the Arab population (as of say 1947) were immigrants who came in when there were finally jobs and irrigated land to work.

Millions. This is not a few people who have been screwing up, but entire professions, employment categories, for decades.

buwaya said...

And then there is the US legal profession.
What can I say? It is by far the principal cause of ineffectiveness and inefficiency in US society.
Repentance and penance seem insufficient.
A total replacement of the entire category, going back to first principles, with something more fit for purpose?

Buwaya: we could have big penitente processions. Would have to change the costumes a bit, though. CC, JSM

This argument keeps expanding because its original premise was false.

When the claim that violent criminals were released into the U.S. collapsed, the definition of ‘criminal’ expanded to asylum seekers who were actually here legally. When that claim collapsed, it expanded to the millions here legally who at a stroke of pen, lost that legal status. Now, it expands to all immigrants under the false premise of manufactured wide spread criminality.

That’s why legality, due process, and noncriminal status are dismissed: they interfere with the objective, which is collective punishment, not public safety.

In a way, the BLM, Antifa, Queers for Palestine, anti-ICE, etc, operations, consisting overwhelmingly of people not of the groups they ostensibly protect, are postmodern penitente processions - self flagellating their white guilt away. But like the original penitente parades, or the Shiite Ashura processions that may have inspired them, these ceremonies just cement the power of the establishment. CC, JSM

This is why people should break away from Trump turd polishing platforms and focus on what is true and what isn’t true. It reminds me of why election deniers were easily duped but why it never held up in a court of law.

A federal judge on Monday blocked the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for more than 350,000 Haitian immigrants.

“There is an old adage among lawyers," Judge Reyes wrote. “ When the facts on your side, pound the facts. If you have the law on your side, pound the law. If you have neither, pound the table.

Secretary Noem, the record to-date shows, does not have the facts on her side -- or at least has ignored them," Reyes continued. “Having neither and bringing the adage into the 21st century, she pounds X (f/k/a Twitter).”

Judge Reyes wrote that while Noem has a First Amendment right "to call immigrants killers, leeches, [and] entitlement junkies," she is constrained by the Constitution and federal law to "apply faithfully the facts to the law in implementing the TPS program.

The Government does not cite any reason termination must occur post haste," Reyes wrote. "Secretary Noem complains of strains unlawful immigrants place on our immigration-enforcement system. Her answer? Turn 352,959 lawful immigrants into unlawful immigrants overnight.

The statutory design is straightforward: TPS exists because threats to life exist; when the threat persists, so should TPS protection, unless the Secretary articulates a well-reasoned and well-supported national interest to the contrary," she wrote.

The D.C. federal judge listed the five plaintiffs by name, saying, "They are not, it emerges, 'killers, leeches, or entitlement junkies.

They are instead: Fritz Emmanuel Lesly Miot, a neuroscientist researching Alzheimer's disease; Rudolph Civil, a software engineer at a national bank; Marlene Gail Noble, a laboratory assistant in a toxicology department; Marica Merline Laguerre, a college economics major; and Vilbrun Dorsainvil, a full-time registered nurse," Judge Reyes wrote.

"A foreign invasion."

So there was never a civil war? Is that what you are claiming? Because "a foreign invasion" is not a civil war, but you know what is a civil war? When a region refuses to accept the legitimacy of the overthrow of the democratically elected leader using violent crowds, and starts fighting.

Guarantee if a full on, weapons drawn, distant power enabled on one side, civil war broke out on our border, we would get involved with the other side, and I would support it. If Quebec, backed by China, broke from Canada by force of arms, the US would intervene.

Jaq said...

But my question was, and you refused to answer it, how could you define civil war so that it did not include what was going on in Ukraine since 2014?

"Demonization of teachers, now nurses, ah yes, that’s the way the right does things."

My post was targeted at people who choose nursing as a career, not at nurses. You understand the difference, right?

That's a "Yes" or "No" question.

And here's another one: Do you think the people who posted those videos are disgusting people? Yes or no.

Demonization of teachers, now nurses, ah yes, that’s the way the right does things. What group is next?

That's pretty rich. A leftist complaining about demonizing other people.

Jim @ 4:27, I wasn’t exactly responding “too you” but rather to what you said. But my apologies if somewhere I gave the impression that what you read is somehow a concern of mine.

There was a revolt in the Donbas in April 2014, kicked off by a unit of the Russian GRU (ref testimony of the commander of the unit, Girkin). This revolt was on the way to being defeated, until regular Russian forces entered Ukraine in August 14, 2014. Thereafter "insurgents" (largely Russian special forces) with the aid of regular Russian forces, artillery and air expanded the zone to become what was later proclaimed as the Russian puppet states of Donetsk and Luhansk. And that situation remained frozen till Feb of 2022.

Inga said...

“Do you think the people who posted those videos are disgusting people?”

Of course, if they are “for real”.

Inga said...

And Mason, you’re insulting people who choose to go into the field of nursing as a career, for what reason?

Mason G said...

People who go into a career involving health care who advocate for withholding care or actively harming others due to their politics deserve to be insulted, at the very least.

Fired from their job, prevented from ever getting another one where they have access to vulnerable victims and cast out of decent society wouldn't be enough but it would still be a better outcome.

What do you think should happen to those people?

Did men born in the territory of the Ukraine fight and die for their independence? Was the West providing weapons and support for the Ukrainian ultranationalist government? Yes, in fact the CIA had multiple bases, 12, per the New York Times, training Ukrainians in propaganda, and these bases were near the Russian border, they were training Ukrainians in techniques of infiltration and assassination within Russia. This has been admitted by the US.

It was and is a civil war, and you can repeat all of the talking points developed by people trained by the CIA in propaganda that you like, but changing what you call it does not change it. Great powers get involved in civil wars all the time.
