Annie Leibovitz photo gloss is the happy medium for the Left, safely and gloriously between a dour police mugshot and a black-and-white Mapplethorpe photo of you with the handle of a black leather bullwhip in your ass.

Hey, I was assured that photo had been destroyed.

Anyway, it's another political Great White Dope season for the Dims.

Leni Riefenstahl had a great eye, too.

Of course, she knew to keep the Nazi black leather bull-whip photos on the Down-Low.

I’m thinking about what would happen if Gavin Newsom could apply his ridiculous California policies nationwide:

— $6.00 a gallon gasoline

— Instead of just the 101 being potholed and poorly maintained, the whole Interstate system could be potholed and poorly maintained

— 13% top state tax rate turned into 90% top federal tax rate

— Insane forest management policies applied nationwide, resulting in wildfires that burn whole states instead of just the Pacific Palisades

The thing is, you’re unhappy with California’s policies, you have 49 other states you can move to. Where do we go if these policies are applied nationwide?

1) If there is really such a curse Newsom sure got a good time to have a glossy thing done re him. This is the Melania week.

2) Sure, Newscum has a ton of problems. But, it seems like his jabbering with Charlie and Ben on his podcast do making him somewhat more capable v Beto.

3) Maybe taking glee in the idiot stuff the Ds do isn't the best way to spend your time after that election in Texas where out of nowhere the D with multiples less money swung an R district by something like...what was it twenty or nearly thirty points from DJT just recently winning? And the R did specifically have DJT come out for her, not that that was necessarily a good thing.

But Althouse shapes this blog to make MAGA people (like her husband) feel better, so I'm not surprised to see this post.

Carry on.

She did. And not just for cinema.

To be fair, Newsom doesnt have the brains to do policy. He is just a facade for the (dreadful) CA politico-bureaucratic consensus. Granted, if by some misfortune you elect him, the residents of Sacramento will be part of the deal.

buwaya @ 7:12pm,

Nobody, absolutely nobody should "do policy" without having lived half their life in the real world first. Remember George McGovern's infamous mea culpa in the New York times?

The 2000 "Al Gore With Enhanced Bulge" cover photo caused a similar stir, but that was "Rolling Stone."

Goldenpause said...

So what is “Beto” doing these days? I doubt it includes actually working for a living. He’s probably working some NGO grift.

Eva Marie said...

When Leni Riefenstahl‘s book of photos of the Nuba people came out, the criticism was that they were an example of fascist esthetics. In fact it was Annie’s friend Susan Sontag that came out with the strongest criticisms.

Josephbleau said...

“To be fair, Newsom doesnt have the brains to do policy.”

Buwaya, Newsom has a mental disability, his policies can only be refuted over a 10 year frame. Where normal pols only get 3 months. It would be unfair for the public to expect prompt results from a disabled thinker.

Mason G said...

He was able to clean up the streets in San Francisco. Not for Californians, that is- rather, a communist dictator. But still...

buwaya said...

I doubt anyone can define a construction like "fascist aesthetics". If it were someone else taking these pictures they wouldnt have said anythihg. These people were just trying to throw (verbal) rocks at Riefenstahl. And maybe she deserved those rocks, but its got nothing to do with the aesthetics of her art.

Switching his author photo on his book's dust jacket for the photo you described would boost his sales into the stratosphere. He probably has one, or one that's close enough for PR work.

Remember George McGovern's infamous mea culpa in the New York times?

I do, although to my recollection it was the Wall Street Journal.

McGovern thought he'd retire after a life spent doing nothing but government and politics, and run a quaint little bread and breakfast in some pleasant rural area of New England. Life would be like a Hallmark Christmas movie, hurray!

Turns out it was someplace like upstate New York or Vermont that was already well on its way to becoming a blue state shithole infested with left-wing locusts who had turned local government into an Oberlin College faculty lounge. He was tormented by petty tyrants of the same type he himself used to be. He also was subjected to the usual frivolous horse shit lawsuits from ambulance chasing scumbag lawyers that the Democrats have pandered to since forever.

I can't say I was pleased that they made him suffer and eventually bankrupted him within a few years, but I am glad he had the decency to warn his fellow Democrats and other lovers of big government what corrosive, evil pieces of shit they were becoming.

And now we have Mamdani.

Does it mean you're gay if that description gives you a lil' chub?

Who probably won't ever try opening a quaint little bread and breakfast and have to worry about being bankrupted.

le Douanier said...

Do you MAGAs ever think that your jabbering about how the Ds are doing terribly puts you on the bad side of a rope a dope?

Melania movie v Newscum VF article, re what side is into fluff (not to mention Newscum has gone the opposite of non-fluff re taking all incoming from Charlie/Ben (BTW, it was awesome when Newscum told Charlie that Newscum's kid wanted to meet Charlie, but Newscum said that the kid needed to go to school, and not missing a beat, Charlie made a joke about how Newscum had been totally in favor of keeping all kids out of school during COVID lockdowns).

And, there is the crazy turn around in that MAGA Texas district. The R had a ton more money. The R had DJT endorsement. The district is actually very populated, not some small number of voters like Dixville Notch.

Just sayin'

"Leni Riefenstahl had a great eye, too."

She was better than Eisenstein, who sucked Stalin's dick, and was the toast of every commie in Hollywood.

Big Mike said...

And now we have Mamdani.

… who has managed to kill 16 homeless people through hypothermia in the eight days since Fern and the polar vortex hit New York. That’s only two per day, which is a pretty weak effort by communist standards. Maybe he can consult with Maduro while the latter is incarcerated there in Brooklyn.

Earnest Prole said...

I’m sorry but by any objective standard, Gavin Newsom is an exceptionally pretty politician, the same way Melania Trump is an exceptionally pretty politician’s wife. Those pretending otherwise are actually saying something else.

Eva Marie said...

“She was better than Eisenstein, who sucked Stalin's dick, and was the toast of every commie in Hollywood.”
Eisenstein made several films that positively dramatized the Russian Revolution. His last film, Ivan the Terrible, Part II, emphasized the paranoia and darkness of Ivan’s rule and was seen as subtle criticism of Stalin.
Riefenstahl’s documentaries were a glorification of Hitler, and she never fully lost her admiration for him - although she did say meeting Hitler was the catastrophe of her life.
There is eyewitness evidence that she was directly responsible for the deaths of 20-30 Polish Jews. She was making her film Tiefland and was and asked that the scene be “cleared of the Jews.” So they were rounded up and shot. That was not her intension and she expressed horror at witnessing the massacre. She also denied being the catalyst for the event.
At any rate the incident didn’t affect her views of the Hitler regime.

Yes, McGovern's B&B was needle-dicked to death, but that was before Dems figured out their rules don't apply to their heroes. Since the Clintons, Dem politician small businesses have had an incredible run. CC, JSM

Eva Marie said...

Let me just add this:
The reason Leni Riefenstahl didn’t want Jews in her film - in my opinion - (they were distinguishable by the Stars of David they were forced to wear) is because she was making a movie about Germans. And in Hitler’s world, that meant no Jews. The film she was making would be seen by her Nazi bosses - maybe even Hitler himself. So, in her mind, she was this apolitical artist, but in real life, she was making enormous compromises to her integrity. She was flattering herself if she didn’t think that was so.
She positioned herself as a pure aesthete, detached from politics, but her choices were not only pragmatic - they were deeply entangled with Nazi ideology.
