"And so what is so important for leaders to do in that circumstance is: to obviously lament the lives lost, pledge an independent transparent investigation, and pledge to... seek justice no matter where it leads.... It strikes me that the exact opposite of that is what has occurred. And immediately after [Renee Good] was killed, she was called a domestic terrorist, very publicly. There are people who then accuse the cop of murder, very publicly, right off the bat. That is pouring gasoline on this situation, and it's horrific.... This incredible rush to judgment results in fixed positions about complicated matters.... And then... there's this assertion, well, this is completely your fault because... when a federal officer gives you instructions, you abide by them and then you get to keep your life. No, no, no, no. That is not what a free society says. We should respect officers... but it is simply not the case that... your right to your life depends on compliance with federal officials.... It's dangerous to drive away from the police. You should not drive away from the police. But under no circumstances is America a country where the command should be obey the men and women in uniform or your life is forfeit. That's not the standard of the United States of America."
Says David French on the new episode of the Advisory Opinions podcast (transcript and audio at Podscribe).
ADDED: If you are questioning the usage in the phrase "or your life is forfeit," know that C.S. Lewis used in in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" (full text at Gutenberg):
"Tell you?" said the Witch, her voice growing suddenly shriller. "Tell you what is written on that very Table of Stone which stands beside us? Tell you what is written in letters deep as a spear is long on the trunk of the World Ash Tree? Tell you what is engraved on the sceptre of the Emperor-Beyond-the-Sea? You at least know the magic which the Emperor put into Narnia at the very beginning. You know that every traitor belongs to me as my lawful prey and that for every treachery I have a right to a kill."
"Oh," said Mr. Beaver. "So that's how you came to imagine yourself a Queen—because you were the Emperor's hangman. I see."
"Peace, Beaver," said Aslan, with a very low growl.
"And so," continued the Witch, "that human creature is mine. His life is forfeit to me. His blood is my property."
"Come and take it then," said the Bull with the man's head in a great bellowing voice.

Tragic, but inevitable
David is casually skipping past her 2000 lb vehicle.
Good was a criminal illegal activist for immigration reform, who took affirmative action to endanger legislation enforcers and the general public. Self-defense is a human and legal right, indulging liberal license to exercise abortive ideation to relieve a "burden" is a human rite following progressive principles.
“But under no circumstances is America a country where the command should be obey the men and women in uniform or your life as forfeit. That's not the standard of the United States of America.”
His rhetoric is outpacing his brain. He is projecting the general onto the specific. We don’t allow a policeman to say lick my boots, but we do allow by law police to require you to comply with orders in the service of public safety. A rather ridiculous article.
What does he think about driving toward the police? Because even if her intent really was simply to drive away, she did drive toward the officer. It could have been the ice on the road, it could have been the limitations of where she had placed her car (didn't believe she could safely reverse, for instance), or it could have been that thing where you're in an altercation and, just as you walk away, you make a feint toward your adversary to provoke a flinch. I do doubt that she intended to run him down or over.
It is tragic- but she walked into it with her bad decisions.
Bad decisions inspired by the very top of the corrupt Democrat party - who ask their broken base to "Put their bodies on the line."
ICE agents and police are being harassed and worse - by people who only listen to and obey a corrupt party who use them/ abuse them/ for their power.
As the late Ashli Babbit once said, in America you should be able to protest without being shot dead.
Let's see how you disgusting pukes feel when some DNC hack like Kamala Harris is deploying federal jackboots on your turf.
A professional protester who has been arrested over 30 times says what needs to be said.
David French says:
"But under no circumstances is America a country where the command should be obey the men and women in uniform or your life is forfeit."
That is the key to the left's demands. They are somehow above the law.
Howard - I'm a legal citizen.
Why do you leftist pukes care so much about the welfare and protection of illegal criminal aliens and their drug, human and child sex trafficking?
She drove her SUV into the officer while resisting after having been legally ordered to stop. You may get to resist and flee a lawful order to stop, but you don't get to run your vehicle into an officer while fleeing.
Howard said...

You should watch the video above Howard and stop whining like a bitch.
Then you might figure out what the difference between what is going on here and what is going on in Iran right now.
Until you figure out that difference you are just going to sound like a whiny bitch.
A two ton vehicle is a guided missile. Electric vehicles more so. Is Minnesota one of the Democratic jurisdictions that issued fraudulent licenses in sanctuary states?
serious people don’t take David French seriously. However, this is what the Trump Administration folks should have said: “Renee Good was a misguided woman whose foolish, illegal action put an ICE agent’s life at risk. Tragically, it cost her own life when the agent defended himself and his colleagues.” Their hyperbole was unnecessary and inflammatory.
When your nation's military polices your streets, you're no longer a democracy.
Prole - Not impressive.
Good was behind the wheel and used her car, with wheels spinning, to either hit the agent and run - or just run - but she was asked to stop and get out. She did not.
With all of the threats and abuse being flung at these agents - the officer had only split seconds to act.
The officer inside the US Capitol building - was he being threatened?
"There's this assertion..." he said, "your right to your life depends on compliance with federal officials." But who ever asserted that? I haven't heard anyone assert that. Just the straw man he invented to argue against, I guess.
The videos of the incident show many long minutes of Renee Good disobeying instructions, with no consequences of any kind. She was only fired upon, at the end, when she rammed her vehicle into a man. French's attempts to re-frame her offense as mere "disobedience" is just a lie.
Kak - again - so lame.
ICE officers are attempting to arrest illegal criminal aliens - with court orders to be deported.
You leftists need to build lies to make your points.
The reactionary centrist playbook is brutally simple: When the left does something bad → it's obviously the left's fault.
When the right does something bad → it's still the left's fault for pushing them too far / provoking them / creating the conditions that made them do it.
Once you recognize this single recurring pattern, virtually every one of their arguments starts to sound like the same broken record.
Criteria for self defense, only viewed from the victims perspective and at the moment.
Here are the five common legal elements:
Innocence (or Not the Initial Aggressor): You must not have started the fight or provoked the attack to claim self-defense.
Imminence: The threat of harm must be immediate and about to happen, not a future or past danger.
Proportionality: The force you used must be equal to the threat faced; deadly force is only justified against deadly threats.
Necessity/Avoidance: You must have reasonably believed force was necessary and that you couldn't retreat or de-escalate safely.
Reasonableness: Your fear and actions must be objectively reasonable, meaning a reasonable person in your situation would have felt the same way.
Babbit was escaping the Pelosi-rrection with Whitmer conspiracy elements of entrapment. Byrd aborted her in a prone position, in cold blood, without probable cause is a Choice.
Funny, but back in Ye Olden Tymes of September, 2016, the selfsame David French (such an appropriate surname) opined inNational Review, in response to urgings of "restraint" in the face of violent BLM demonstrators, "Indeed, there is no reason for cops in 2016 to respond any diffferently to perceived threats than they did in 2015. Should they not intervene to seek to save lives or to preserve their own?" What happened since then one can only wonder. I suspect it has something to do with the source of French's financial welfare. (2015, National Review; 2026, New York Times.)

As the late Ashli Babbit once said, in America you should be able to protest without being shot dead.
Babbit made a decision that was highly likely to get her shot.
The problem with the shooting of Ashli Babbit was the officer ambushed her. She was surrounded by police officers that were not telling her to stop and they were not arresting her.
But climbing through the broken glass window was fucking stupid.
Renee Good was ordered to get out of the car and surrender. She consciously made a decision to attack that officer. She was a retard at best.
The people who deserve to die are her "wife" and the Democrats who are paying people to "resist" ICE.
I think we can all agree their protesters are terrorists and our protesters are patriots.
Yikes. I think ICE handled this situation poorly. Probably could have calmed it all down. They should not use their body to block a vehicle - stay away from front. That being said Good did not simple disobey and drive away. That is false. She drove into the agent fast.
First of all, what the fuck kind of a sentence is this?
"And immediately after [Renee Good] was killed, she was called into domestic terrorist, very publicly."
David French requires an editor to get basic English correct. Maybe we shouldn't accept that he's some sort of fucking "expert" on anything.
Secondly, let's define "domestic terrorist."
A domestic terrorist is a person who wants to implement THEIR preferred policies or laws, but cannot get them passed in the normal way - by majority vote - and who instead resorts to violence as a way to try to FORCE their preferred policies or laws to be followed.
That is EXACTLY what Renee Good is: A domestic terrorist.
She was an attempted murderer, using violence and the threat of violence to achieve HER preferred policy outcomes, which the majority of the people in the United States have resoundingly rejected.
Fuck her. She's plainly a domestic terrorist and zero investigation of this is required. She committed her terrorism in plain site and the only thing she didn't do was yell "Allahu Ackbar" while doing it.
Fuck David French. He's an asshole and a fucking idiot.
Oh for fuck's sake.......
It is mindnumbingly stupid to do what Renee Good did last Wednesday. I thought is was stupid of Agent Ross to stand anywhere near the front of the vehicle (or behind) when it was stationary but that might have been part of his training when dealing with a driver who has already broken the law and might well soon be under arrest- I simply don't know what the procedure for that is. However, the law is stone cold clear on whether or not this was a legal use of deadly force- it was and it is backed up by decades of SCOTUS decisions, many of which are unanimous or 8-1 rulings.
David Fucked-In-The-Head French is wanting to know why we come down hard on the right side in this case- it is because we have already seen what happened to Derek Chauvin when we allowed a "transparent and independent investigation"- and make no mistakes here, French means allowing Minnesota officials to enforce the law in this matter since he spends most of this podcast castigating the support Ross got from his superiors in the federal government and castigating the policies being used by DHS here which led Good to be blocking the street and obstructing federal officials doing their jobs. This "independent investigation" does not exist today if it ever did.
Leftists are reactionary and often indulge the Pro-Choice ethical religion of Diversity, Equivocation, and Indifference of political congruence. #HateLovesAbortion

I think we can all agree that is a 80 IQ take.
The word ‘if’ enter the conversation. If Mayor Frey had worked with ICE to allow this child molester to be retained at the courthouse, Ms. Good would be alive. If Governor Waltz followed the letter and spirit of the laws of the United States, Ms. Good would be alive. If Ms. Good had obeyed the orders of the sworn officers of the United States, she would be alive. But, Ms. Good thought she was above the law, Mayor Frey, Keith Ellison and Governor Waltz also think that they are above the law. More deaths to follow, all preventable.
And while we are on the subject of domestic terrorists ... her WIFE is ALSO a domestic terrorist who should be in fucking PRISON today, but who instead is getting written a check by Democrats for $1.5 MILLION DOLLARS.
Democrats are REWARDING domestic terrorism to encourage it. The Democrat Party is a domestic terrorist organization and it should be outlawed and its membership treated like Nazis after World War II.
I guess Mr. French thinks that includes the situations where the citizen being instructed is holding a lethal weapon in their hand, and brandishing it in a threatening manner. As was the case here.
Ponder the case of Chauvin. He was caught on camera appearing to act in a callous fashion towards a prisoner under his control. That prisoner most likely died of an overdose, but no matter. That officer is now doing life for murder and he's serving out his term in constant terror of the next assault. Ponder further the case of those officers who were with Chauvin that day. They also got stiff prison terms for not doing enough to restrain the officer. Their lives have been similarly ruined......There was no one in Minneapolis who was willing to go Atticus Finch in support of those officers.....They say military justice is to justice as military music is to music. Revolutionary justice is to justice as rap music is to music. They're fixing to subject that immigration officer to revolutionary justice.
Achilles opines: "The problem with the shooting of Ashli Babbit was the officer ambushed her. She was surrounded by police officers that were not telling her to stop and they were not arresting her."
The core claim of an ambush without warnings or surrounding officers is not supported by the preponderance of investigative findings and available evidence.
Good was there to harass and block. Not protest.

This is wrong. The reason this woman got shot is ICE is being too nice.
If there are officers in the middle of making an arrest and serving a warrant you cannot allow people to block the streets around them with cars. This is how you set up an ambush and kill people.
Everyone following ICE around and blowing whistles and blocking streets and interfering with ICE agents as they legally enforce the law should just be arrested immediately and removed from the area.
If they are allowed to create situations like this more people will die.
Renee Good died because Democrats don't want their voters deported. It is the people funding and organizing these protests that need to be arrested.
I think if that immigration officer had been married a number of times and if that officer had been found unworthy of custody of his children, we would know a lot more about his domestic situation. That's the way it work. We know lots about George Zimmerman's domestic affairs, but there's a strict news blackout on whether Trayvon Martin had any disciplinary problems in school.

Gondorian Ranger: You know the laws of our country, the laws of your father. If you let them go, your life will be forfeit.
Faramir: Then it is forfeit. Release them.
French almost had a point, but he lost it in the haze of his partisanship. She didn’t get called a terrorist and then the officer got accused of murder, it happened the other way around and he knows it. The order matters if we want to talk about who needs to do what to turn down the temperature. He also conveniently ignores that she hit the officer—another deliberate obfuscation.
The reason new facts are only hardening positions is that both sides are right. They’re just not talking about the same thing. The shooting was justified AND the shooting was unnecessary. ICE needs better training in how to deal with protestors AND the protestors need to learn common sense, respect, and humility. I have no problem with the wife being prosecuted. I also have no problem with the officer having his gun taken away.
Howard: “ Let's see how you disgusting pukes feel when some DNC hack like Kamala Harris is deploying federal jackboots on your turf.”
Well that already happened, other than the federal part.
Jackboots of BLM/Antifa. Jackboots of non political street takeovers, flashmobs, and mass shoplifters. Jackboots of illegal alien gangs. Jackboots of subway stabbers, flame-lighters, and throwers-in-front-of-trains. All sponsored by democrats.
Ok, I correct myself. There were federal jackboots. Arresting anyone who questioned the election. Stomping through Trump’s home.
So how did we feel after all these jackboots? Crappy. So we re-elected Trump. Twice. And the jackboots keep coming. Now in the form of ditzy ladies in SUVs. CC, JSM

It is important to note that Renee Good's "wife" told her to "DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE."
Renee Good's wife is complicit in the attempted murder of an officer of the law.
Finally, let me say this: TERRORISM WORKS
New York is no longer run by the Jews. It is now run by the Muslims who flew aircraft into the World Trade Center. Rudy Guiliani was a Jew. He is now penniless and arrested and out. He has been UTTERLY DESTROYED by the radical Muslims and their friends in the Democrat Party.
Muslims now run New York because they use terrorism and terrorism works. Democrats paid attention to 9/11 and they figured out that terrorism works.
Ann quotes David French: "But under no circumstances is America a country where the command should be obey the men and women in uniform or your life is forfeit. That's not the standard of the United States of America."
If that's what French wrote, he is misrepresenting the scenario. The officer did not use deadly force because she drove away; he did so because he thought she was using her car as a weapon against him.
Again - The communist mobsters who run the modern democratic party are purposefully inspiring their broken often mentally ill base, to behave like they do.
If that same officer had been dragged to his death instead of to a substantial injury in a previous encounter with an uncooperative motorist, it would have perhaps made the local news and maybe even the networks for a day, and that would have been the end of it. There is definite media bias at play here.
Oh.. 'Police Violence'.. is this like 'Gun Violence' or 'Knife Violence'??? See I've been stopped a few times by police... but no 'violence'. Strange... Even though I had a gun on me (I live in Texas) there was no 'violence'... why?
Maybe the 'violence' is "PROTESTOR VIOLENCE" and not "Police Violence" folks.. so protestors.. go look in the mirror and see just who is really violent..
I don't know if she was a domestic terrorist, but she was domestic terrorist adjacent. The people who are running these "protests" know what they are doing. The followers are gullible rubes.
And immediately after [Renee Good] was killed, she was called into domestic terrorist, very publicly. There are people who then accuse the cop of murder, very publicly, right off the bat. That is pouring gasoline on this situation, and it's horrific.
Well, there is some bullshit bothsideism. Compare the power of the people who immediately declared her a terrorist and blamed her for her own death, with the power of the people who immediately thought the shooting was unjustified.
your self-important middle of the ground schtick is very tired... and not very clever.
Believing our civil liberties are sacred is anything but middle of the road.
Venezuela has pledged to release its political prisoners. It hasn't happened yet, but there are hundreds of them. They have been subject to frequent beatings and outright torture. What has anyone on the left done to facilitate their release or protest their continued confinement. I bet if Sean Penn and Daniel Glover flew down there and went on a hunger strike in front of the prison, the wheels would start turning.
If there are officers in the middle of making an arrest and serving a warrant you cannot allow people to block the streets around them with cars. This is how you set up an ambush and kill people.
Except that is not what happened.
If you watch the many videos of radicalized leftist "protestors" - there is no protest - they are in full harassment mode. They are banging on law enforcement vehicles, they are yelling threats of violence ... They are jackboots - as J. Mosby asserts.
Achilles mews: "We have our lying eyes and a video."
Doesn't that sound a bit familiar.....
"ICE needs better training in how to deal with protestors ..."
No they don't. And this incident proves it.
The way you deal with domestic terrorists is you shoot them 3 times directly in their fucking face. And you do it on video. So it can be replayed over and over and over again for all the other domestic terrorists to see. They need to know what the rules of engagement are and the rules are perfect just as they are currently written: Shoot to KILL.
That is the training ICE has received and it is the proper training. And it is the proper way to deal with domestic terrorists of either party.
Renee Good was there, at that place and at that time, for one purpose only: to help ensure that non-citizen rapists, killers, drug slingers and robbers get to stay in this country. That is also the only purpose of Walz' and Frey's performative sadness and outrage (which they don't perform all that well). Still, she shouldn't have died, but the politicos who desperately want to shelter criminals should have to answer. They never will.
Good instigated the violence through legislative obstruction and it was her Choice to self-abort when operating the vehicle as a high capacity mass to endanger the officers and public. That said, the left-right nexus is leftist.
Just a straightforward question for those who want alien criminals in this country: why do you want them here?
Freder - most of these illegals are known criminals and have arrest warrants and deportation orders.... going back years and years.
But your party loves to open the prison doors.
"Says David French on the new episode of the Advisory Opinions podcast (transcript and audio at Podscribe)."
You mean, you actually spent minutes of valuable time listening to David French?
Even Nixon was not as bad as Trump. After Kent and Jackson State shootings he authorized an inquiry into campus unrest generally and those two incidents in particular. The conclusion (in a 1000 page or so book) was that the police and National Guard overreacted in both those instances.

“A professional protester who has been arrested over 30 times says what needs to be said.”
Excellent point. You can protest all you want to. But never resist. Heck, it’s something that most boys learn before they get into their 20s. Respect the police, esp when you deal with them professionally. If they tell you to do something - do it immediately.
This maybe why this encounter went so badly for these two women. They didn’t go through the late adolescent male socialization that their male brethren did. And maybe why AWFLs are female (or female adjacent). As women, they have always ben given slack by the police, that males don’t get. Esp late adolescent males who need the lesson in order to survive.
One thing the guy pointed out, was that you don’t know what the cop has been dealing with. He might have a kid with leukemia, or faced an armed bank robbery the night before. Well, in this case Good apparently tried to run down an ICE agent who had been hospitalized after being dragged by a vehicle, its driver trying to flee from him. So, maybe the wrong ICE agent to drive over.

Ross drew his gun after the reverse tail lights turned off and the front wheels started spinning towards him.

Obviously not. Everyone there impeding that arrest should have been arrested with the illegal aliens they were helping.

Bad typing.
Adding to one of my points. Ms Good seemed to think that the rules didn’t apply to her. Just give the police a smile and drive off. And everything would be just fine. She’s a woman, and they are men. That’s all she thought it should take. Female Privilege. So, that’s what she apparently did.

You are essentially a homeless person riding the subways for free and crapping on the train.

"They are enforcing immigration laws as they are written."
As opposed to the previous administration who created this hot mess, on purpose. Their intent was to flood the zone so as to make it impossible to enforce the law.
WHY was Goodie Good parked in the middle of the street?
What SHOULD you do, when an armed policeman ORDERS you?
do YOU have The Right, to decide what laws should be followed?
William: "If that same officer had been dragged to his death instead of to a substantial injury in a previous encounter with an uncooperative motorist, it would have perhaps made the local news and maybe even the networks for a day, and that would have been the end of it."
Mmm, I think the MSM would still have used it for their purposes. "Mika, let's talk about Jonathan Ross, the brave ICE agent dragged to his death by an illegal alien gangster. Doesn't this incident prove that ICE are in over their heads, and they should get out of these neighborhoods before even more brave ICE agents get dragged to death?"
We piped and you did not dance; we wailed and you did not mourn....CC, JSM

John Mosby- nicely done.
I come across road construction and repair all the time. In every instance I see a police cruiser with their glittering lights on, attempting to safe guard the lives of the workers... I suppose. (Maybe they are there collecting gambling debts?)
Why are the lives of ICE officers not worth the trouble?
In a word: Bureaucracy.
They were democratically elected.
Only two were democratically elected (and Miller wasn't even approved by the Senate). But part of the deal is that the President cannot make law. That is the purview of Congress. And certainly not Former Law Clerk, who made up a legal definition of domestic terrorism.
WSJ is going to infuriate the Althouse regulars..
Videos Show How ICE Vehicle Stops Can Escalate to Shootings ~ WSJ
"A WSJ visual investigation found that the Minneapolis ICE killing is one of 13 incidents where federal immigration agents have used deadly force against civilians in vehicles since July"
The shooting of Renee Good, like all of the ICE abuses, is symptomatic of a deeper mental illness. This is about why federal law enforcement has adopted an invasion mindset, why constitutional restraint is being treated as optional, and why “comply or die” rhetoric is now openly defended by national leaders and of course the usual suspects on Althouse.
If your takeaway is “she should’ve complied,” you’ve missed the argument entirely — and quietly accepted a definition of authority that would have horrified earlier generations of Americans. Engage with the larger questions of "Why are federal agents gunning down Americans in the streets?"
They are enforcing immigration laws as they are written.
Actually, they are not. They are ignoring the process required by immigration law, and often turning people who were allowed into this country legally into illegal aliens through Presidential fiat.
Freder - you're lying.
The bottom line is your side doesn't want any illegal alien removed. No matter what legal protocol is followed.
The whole thing is a straw man.
I started out on this very blog saying it was a bad shoot, because she was just trying to get away. After seeing a lot more video, and analysis, I still think she was trying to get away, but from the cop's point of view, the vehicle and it's tires were aimed at him spinning and the engine revving when he pulled his gun and decided to shoot. The car was making contact when he pulled the trigger. Everything else is essentially irrelevant according to the law in Minnesota specifically and the nation at large. The alternative for the cop was to wait and see if the car revving, spinning and aimed at him misses or not, which has proven fatal for cops in the past. It's unfortunate, but she created the situation and made a series of bad choices to get there. She wanted to create violence and record it. That's why they were there. This has nothing to do with the right to protest. She wasn't shot for protesting.
Freder Frederson said:
“Even Nixon was not as bad as Trump.”
That’s the Democrat rule: Previous Republican Presidents were never as bad as the Republican President we have now.
This is analogous to a fleeing criminal pulling out a fake gun and getting shot by cops. He obviously didn't plan on killing anyone, but that's not what matters.
Nixon wasn't even as bad a Obama, who illegally spied on Trump, and tried to rig an election, and then spied on the winner.
Some claim ICE struggles to recruit quality agents. The reality is far more worrisome: the agency is successfully attracting exactly the kind of personnel needed for its current mission—reactionary, angry, violence-prone individuals who show little regard for democratic principles or restraint.
The rapid "wartime" hiring surge—doubling the workforce in 2025 with aggressive bonuses, influencer campaigns, and shortened training—hasn’t produced careful guardians of the law. It has built an occupying force primed for confrontation.
The killing of Renée Good is tragic proof.
Why anyone still thinks French has anything of substance to share on any subject…
Another ridiculous take. No one sane is saying that you must obey or die. The simple fact is that if you jam on the gas pedal and head directly at a person with a gun, you are going to get shot.
I was thinking it would be better for everyone if he hadn’t shot her, but then I realized that isn’t true.
The fraudsters from Tim Walz on down are so happy this poor misguided woman was killed. They can’t hardly believe their good fortune.
It's not reasonable to expect a cop to know someone's motivations who suddenly appears to be trying to kill him. We are not even sure of her motivations now.

I note that I have not gotten a single response to my questions from the lefties here. The first two questions can be answered from the multiple videos of this incident and third only requires a cursory search of the law. Why do you suppose Bich and others don't want to answer any of those 3 questions?
French also writes today of how Trump & Vance are again fanning the flames for violence; “The terrible divisiveness of police violence is why responsible leaders respond to every incident with extreme care. You lament the lives lost, you promise a fair and thorough investigation, and you call for calm. You do not prejudge the case. You do not set up an expectation that justice will be done only if your side’s interests are vindicated. And you definitely don’t send out allies and subordinates to whip up public anger.”
I found that rather profound considering the recent celebrations of the young lady’s demise from the Althouse patrons.
I’m still on the fence on it being a murder, homicide or self defense. My guess, but not sure, it was avoidable yet legal. That there’s no clear, uncontested evidence that he was even hit and a bullet in the head doesn’t pump the brakes doesn’t exactly help his case.
i’m still focused on why they were there because as we know, Trump has shown a soft spot for actual fraudsters so that ain’t it.
I’m going more for revenge, riling the Gullibles, stirring hatred and division, another day of smoke and mirrors, and well, that’s just what bullies do.

Bagoh2,
After the body cam footage, which shows her looking right at Ross, I concluded that she intended to put him on his ass by making him leap away to avoid getting hit. An alternative theory is that she intended to hit him and only turned to her right when she saw the gun come up- the videos support either theory and also supports her attempting and failing to drive past him.
Like you wrote, however, what she intended is irrelevant- the only relevant facts are what Ross thought she was trying to do and what the law allows him to do about it. I don't see how any sane person could conclude that Ross was unreasonable in believing she was trying to hit him with the vehicle and the law definitely, without any doubt at all, allowed him to shoot her if he believed she was trying to hit him with the car.

There a lots of ways a democracy can end. Mob rule is the most direct. People who think Renee Good is some sort of martyr for democracy are fools.

Sigh.........Ronald, they were there to arrest and deport a convicted felon who is in the country illegally. This has been known since last Wednesday. I would link to the evidence of this but several people have already done so, some probably in reply to your previous attempts to post this question, and you have ignored it, so I won't play this game any longer. Donations have been paused. If the funds are released, I hope they go to the grandparents taking care of the child. I don't believe the wife adopted him or would have a right to custody, so I don't know if any of the money would go to her. I hope not, since I think she's partially responsible for what happened because she told her wife to drive while the officer was in front of the vehicle. I think all of the people who made her think that only POC are in danger from law enforcement are also responsible.
Cruel neutrality can also be interpreted as a reason to not critique French's claims- the commenters are doing an excellent job of that themselves.

Everytime I read David French I wonder how this guy ever got away with pretending to be a conservative. He's basically a 2005 Liberal democrat who likes big business.
And spare me the high-minded blather. THe MSM picks and chooses which killings by the police are news and which ones are not. Ashli babbit never got one word from David French.
But now, we needs transparent investigations and blahdeblah because otherwise....riots. Its gonna blow I tells you. We need to tamp this down. IOW, give in to Antifa.
And course, we get a lot tongue clicking about "Is the SCOTUS too conservative?" and "Gosh, jurisdiction stripping so SO wrong". So judiary uber alles.

You can say the same thing about the officers involved. One could argue that they unnecessarily escalated the situation and caused Good to panic and attempt to drive away. you cannot convince me from the video evidence that her intent was to run the officer down. He was standing in front of the drivers side, her front wheels are fully locked to the right.
Yancey, if your link is the one I’m thinking, I’ve already responded on another thread. If not, perhaps it applies to yours. But thanks for the invitation to repost it as it seemed to have shut a bunch of people up previously;
On the Fox breaking news of arrests, for starters, this is exactly what I want to see- criminals off the streets. But as “lefties” like I do, there’s always that “but…..”, not because I can’t appreciate success but because a few thing don’t smell right.
For example, Pao Angelo Vang — convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child was arrested June 6, 2025. Thong Lao, Tou Pao Lee, Va Vang, Xiong Pao Vang, Yee Shae, and Yia Xiong, were also arrested earlier last year, not during the current occupation.
Again, glad to see them gone but it puts us back to the same argument of justification for mass detentions, deportations and dehumanization of noncriminals and even American citizens. And obviously, they knew exactly who and where these people were which further questions the tactics we’re seeing towards others.
And then we have ICE Director Todd M. Lyons; “Some of these criminal aliens have had final orders of removal for 30 years, but they’ve been free to terrorize Minnesotans. ICE’s arrests prevent recidivism and make communities safer, but it feels like local politicians want to ignore that part and drum up discontent rather than protect their own constituents.”
So, the Feds convicted them, ordered their removals, turned them loose, and now want to play a blame game. Under U.S. law, immigration enforcement and deportation are federal responsibilities, handled by DHS and its agencies like ICE. States and cities do not have their own deportation powers.
Federal authorities initiate removal proceedings, adjudicate deportation orders (through immigration courts), and execute those orders when individuals are found and taken into custody. So when Lyons says these individuals had final orders of removal for decades, that means an immigration judge issued a deportation order that was not carried out at the time.
But that's why David French ended up at the NYT's as their Uncle Tom conservative. This after he was run off of National Review because he was defending Google censorship as "True Conservativism" while secretly taking $$ from Google.
Or give in to hamas same diff (depends whos ox is gored)
The Times is leading with a story today saying that Trumps' Appellate judges side overwhelmingly with Trump (as if in a fair system, it would be a 50/50 split). But the subtext is that the Justice System under Trump has been perverted and is unfair at its core.
Thus opponents cannot find relief within the system, and must, and are justified, in taking to the streets.
Her tragic death - the blame is all hers, her wife and all the democratic party who provided the training and vocal urging to be there.
Her wife sat there crying and openly stated in her grief that it was "all her fault" - why? because all of that harassment and obstruction - WAS THEIR FAULT.
But under no circumstances is America a country where the command should be obey the men and women in uniform or your life is forfeit.
Just to clarify for David French, Ann Althouse, and any other lefties who are disturbed that an AWFL died because of her actions, the badly misnamed Renee Good was shot trying to injure or kill an ICE agent.

Its crazy how all this has been normalized. We don't have to be against "Gay Marriage" to be in favor of word meaning something.
Some were like the boudins certainly but many came from very bourgeois roots
Trump is doing the right thing here. He is just doing it too slowly.
The only way this ends is if we deport all of the democrats illegal voters and we cut off the funding for the people who are importing foreign soldiers and paying people to attack our law enforcement..
No, Ronald, not the FoxNews link- a link to actual government statement about what, precisely, the officers were doing on that street that morning- they weren't "investigating fraud", the phrase you keep using over and over and over. Are you 8 years old or just a lying liar?
This isn't the Kent State or Boston Massacre moment that the Left wants it to be. It's more like the "Hands up Don't Shoot" moment in Ferguson. Renee's good name and actions will not stand scrutiny. This case needs to be litigated.
Meanwhile, is the DFL still resisting the investigation of the fraud?
The protests and this woman's death were all in service of TRYING to keep violent criminals in the community. I assume they did or will get them anyway, so she died for nothing in an attempt to protect felons at the expense of the community. There was not some lofty goal here. It was ideology fueled, counter productive stupidity that Democrats and the media pretend is something else. We shouldn't accept the lie they tell themselves.
Ayers was the son of a utilities magnate for instance
Guevara the son of a landowner nephew of an Admiral
Fidel similarly same with Ho chi Minh (or his real name)
It all depends, whether violence is gong to get the "tinderbox" treatment on how the media feels about the story. There was a segment on the news where the host was supposed to have "shut up and flummoxed" a conservative by asking how he would feel had the police used deadly force during J6, as if they had zero concern that anybody was going to point out that that had actually happened.
It's like that song by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young:

She attacked an officer with a deadly weapon.
She gets shot 100/100 times.
It is too bad the officer is going to feel bad for shooting her. He doesn't deserve that.
What really bothers me about David French is that he somehow dragged Jonah Goldberg with him into French's erroneous reflexive meta-conservatism, in which he looks down upon ordinary conservatives supporting traditional values and institutions and tells us that we're just not doing conservatism properly. He doesn't seem to understand that conservatives can no longer afford to lose. If they lose, they will be extinguished.
Hi chickelit. Good to see you again. It's been a long while... I think.
Ive talked to jonah long ago, when he choses to miss the point he goes all the way
"her front wheels are fully locked to the right.
This is just false with what you are implying, Fredo. Watch the video and the stills from the moment she hits the accelerator- the wheels only turn to Good's right the moment the vehicle actually starts moving forward. So, are you lying or did you never watch the video from above, behind, and to Good's left?
Like I wrote above, I don't think Good meant to hit Ross- I do think she might well have wanted Ross to think she was going to hit him in order to put him on his ass. However, none of that matters- it only matters whether or not it is reasonable for Ross to believe she could have hit him with the car and you have just admitted (you are the first lefty here to do that, so kudos to you) that he actually was hit by the car- this precludes any argument that he was unreasonable in believing she intended to hit him.
David French - NYT "Conservative/Repub thinker" - No thank you. Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
Take the youngest of the tamimi clan who was behind the bombing of the sbarro pizzeria (she survived)
The Go Fund Me reminds me of Saddam Hussein paying the families of suicide bombers.
She attacked an officer with a deadly weapon.
That is one hell of an assumption. Neither you nor I know what her intent was. But by the position of the wheels and the officer it appears she was trying to get past him, not run him down. If she really wanted to run him down, she would have steered to the left, not right.
You have to have the will to see it through
Of course she was just a footsoldier
"However, that Noem and Trump both implied that he was seriously hurt and rushed to the hospital is nothing but bullshit."
Agreed, and I hate it, because it's impossible for them not to know it was untrue. I understand the compulsion to lie in response to being assaulted with lies, but just don't.
If she really wanted to run him down, she would have steered to the left, not right."
She would have hit him head on if her wheels hadn't spun out for that fraction of a second after she hit the accelerator, Fredo. Search for Tim Pool's full analsysis of the video- he literally covers all of this with video segments and stills from the video. You keep repeating stuff that isn't true about the incident.
This part, however, is true:
"Neither you nor I know what her intent was."
We don't- only she knows what she intended and takes it to the grave but, again, her intent is irrelevant- don't you agree with that statment- what she intended doesn't matter.
What also matters is why he put himself in such a dangerous situation. At worst she was going to be charged with obstruction. They must have already had her license plate number (unless they were complete fuck ups, which is a distinct possibility). There was absolutely no reason they needed to put themselves in a life-threatening position. They could easily let her drive off and have local police arrest her later.
Why didn’t Good just stop and get out of the car?
I think it’s the sudden shift from feeling powerful to feeling powerless. Once she steps out of the vehicle, she knows she’s no longer on equal footing—she’s completely at their mercy. Protesters (and anyone in similar situations) need training to recognize and prepare for those intense feelings of vulnerability and fear in that moment, and to accept them without panic. Without thinking it through ahead of time, you’re setting yourself up for disaster. After all, the transition from powerful to powerless is far better than the transition to death.
Freder must have missed the 3 minutes of video where Ms. Good sat her car in the middle of the street - honking like a crazy person - blocking traffic and obstructing justice.
Ms. Good doesn't take orders! She is above the law.
her wife told her to "drive baby drive" - and that got her killed.

Adam Corolla pointed out that we've weaponized women and that they don't understand physical confrontation and the basic rules that men play by.
"What also matters is why he put himself in such a dangerous situation."
First off, it's his job.
Second, you are admitting that what she was doing created a dangerous situation.
Third, if you watch his body cam, you will see he was just completing a walk around of the entire car, and stopped past the front. She then backed up, and in what had to look intentional to him , she aimed the car at him, put it in drive and hit the gas. When it spun the tires, she then turned away, but the decision and physiological process to shoot was already irretrievably underway.
"There was absolutely no reason they needed to put themselves in a life-threatening position. They could easily let her drive off and have local police arrest her later."
Now, this is hilarious, Fredo- the local police already have policy set from on high to arrest no one at these incidents, during or after. Sure, the FBI could have arrested her and her wife later, at home, but here is the problem- how do you get her to drive away- she sat there blocking the street for 3 minutes plus before the officer at her window ordered her out of the car- only then did she "attempt to drive away. She could have driven away safely the first time Ross walked to the driver's side- why didn't she? You, again, are attempting to evade the logic of the progression of events- she only attempted to drive away when the ICE officers acted to end her obstruction. Her sitting there for 3 plus minutes and not leaving told Ross that she had no intention of clearing the street, so that probably factored into why he remained near the front of her car. I agree, he shouldn't have been near the car and in front but that isn't going factor into whether or not the shooting was justified- not one bit. It might lead to him being removed from street duty for bad judgment but I don't know what the trained procedure is for such a situation- it might well be that their training required them to box in the vehicle once it was decided to arrest her.
I question the capital shooting. There is footage of him just before he killed Ashli Babbit running through a crowd of senators/reps,gun in hand and finger on trigger. Gun pointed forward, not up or down. Textbook example of piss poor gun safety.
He had previously been disciplined for forgetting his gun in a men's room. Found and turned in by a tourist.
I think he had also been disciplined previously for unwarranted drawing of his gun.
Also, just to prove it is not just Somalis he and his wife have been paid $1-2mm for running an unaccredited day care out of his home.

She probably believed in her heart that she was doing a good thing and that getting out of the car would be a bad thing. That judge in Milwaukee who interceded against another ICE action did the the same thing. The judge faced the consequences of her bad judgement.
The Left actually believes that ICE is the Gestapo. This needs to change.
Freder must have missed the 3 minutes of video where Ms. Good sat her car in the middle of the street - honking like a crazy person - blocking traffic and obstructing justice.
Maybe she deserved a citation for obstructing traffic. Or go crazy and charge her with obstruction of justice. One is a civil fine, the other would land her in jail for a couple years, that is if you could convince a jury to convict her.
She did not deserve the death penalty.

The evidence pretty clearly justifies the officer's action, but it also did with George Floyd, including and autopsy that directly disproved the crime he was convicted of. Our justice system is poorly named, and anything is possible regardless of the evidence.

The Left actually believes that ICE is the Gestapo. This needs to change.
Considering their lack of professionalism, the reported lowering of standards and training (and where they are recruiting from), and documented arrests and detention of U.S. citizens, it is a reasonable conclusion
“The Left actually believes that ICE is the Gestapo. This needs to change.“
What so many on the right miss or refuses to acknowledge is that such a change, that they quit acting like the Gestapo, would conflict with Trump’s (or perhaps Steven Miller’s) plan.
Just a straightforward question for those who want alien criminals in this country: why do you want them here?
I think we are way past the point of credibly believing that ICE is only going after "criminals". Whether you like it or not, non-citizens, here legally or not, are among the most law-abiding demographic in the country.
"She did not deserve the death penalty."
Your mind really is stuck somewhere outside of the evidence. She was not shot for protesting, being queer, blocking ICE, honking or anything she said. If that was true, the cops would have shot a lot more people, but for some reason just her. Can you guess what that reason might be?

This is speculation on my part but given that we know her partner was shouting "drive baby drive" I have to wonder if Good was intending to get her vehicle to lurch forward towards the officers before braking to a stop (which could have easily resulted in hitting one of the officers as well), and was likely surprised when the wheels had no traction. That would also account for her turning the wheels in a semi-automatic 'steer into the skid' response.
