"What we have is Karoline Leavitt's soundbite claiming they are evildoers in America (rapists, murderers, etc.). But isn't there much more to ask in light of the torture that we are revealing?"

"Tom Homan and Stephen Miller don't tend to be shy. I realize we've emailed the DHS spox, but we need to push much harder to get these principals on the record."

Wrote Bari Weiss, in an internal memo justifying her action, noting the failure to "present the administration's argument."

Also at Axios: "Yanked '60 Minutes' episode aired in Canada."

It's easy to find the whole segment on line, but I'm not going to link to it.

“The public knows that Venezuelans have been subjected to horrific treatment in this prison,” Ms. Weiss [told colleagues at the top of a 9 a.m. editorial call], adding that if “60 Minutes” wanted to feature the story, “we simply need to do more.”
That viewpoint found little sympathy within “60 Minutes.” The show’s staff and correspondents convened for a somber Monday afternoon meeting, where the correspondent Scott Pelley expressed frustration at Ms. Weiss’s handling of the situation and raised questions about her management style. He asked why she had weighed in at the last minute after not attending five screenings of the segment as it was being completed.

“It’s not a part-time job,” Mr. Pelley said, according to four people familiar with the discussion who requested anonymity to describe a private exchange.

So they aired it in Canada, huh? Looks like Bari has some work to do with enforcing her authority, then. Either she's in charge, or she isn't - and someone thinks she isn't.

I wonder if Trump sees this and says 'sucks to be the one who thinks they're in charge, eh Bari?'

The beauty of the comments by the staff show what crap newspeople they are. If they read the Free Press for 2 weeks they would know why Bari Weiss was chosen to create a News org with a modest amount of positive press for " the deplorables"

…just in Ann’s post there’s nothing but propaganda sound bite garbage, any substance conveniently hidden behind paywalls. I’m not going to engage with any of this crap- no empathy for the Democrats who brought them here, no support for CBS. I still believe this ‘fair and balanced’ thing by Weiss is a scam to bank some goodwill to be cashed in later in the election cycle….and from this scam perspective how lazy is it that the staff won’t concede in inch to fair reporting?

I suppose it won’t take much for Trump haters to latch on to anything that remotely resembles news…

Helluva statement. I have heard, but I would stop short of saying I know it is happening, so I agree with her that they needed more origanl reporting. Getting the subject to comment on claims,, especially if they are "new" ones, is absolutely routine journalism.

That there is a kerfuffle at all is evidence of how far the "profession" has fallen. This is what happens from the one-sideism we see leftists enforce in institutions they control:

* news stations said there was no "other side" to global warming so need to report it
* ditto the "trans" debate
* ditto the COVID debates, all of them from masks to distancing to basic epidemiology, ALL were off limits in the "free media" who slavishly follow whatever demands the evil progressives make

This is the most important quote of the saga so far.

Listen to what this bitch is saying.

She's admitting that after 4 attempts, it did not clear Standards and Practices or the attorneys.

Only AFTER the fifth re-dits did it get past Standards & Practices and the attorneys, only to be rejected a 6th time by Weiss.

Do fairly reported, unbiased news stories get rejected 4 times by Standards & Practices and the attorneys? No. Those stories are approved on the FIRST PASS by the attorneys and S&P.

This is an admission by Alfonsi that the story is not fair, balanced and unbiased and was rejected 4 times then approved the fifth time, and then again rejected the sixth time by Bari Weiss herself ... she being the final editor that the employees of 60 Minutes have to get their unbalanced, biased stories by before they can get on air.

It's a hit job. That's why CBS in Canada aired it anyway.

That's right. 60 Minutes employees DEFIED Bari Weiss and reported the story anyway. The entire Alfonsi team should be fired and 60 Minutes needs to go on hiatus and the entire broadcast revamped with different employees.

Over the last few years, Jesse Watters has been a cheeky monkey, pushing right up to the line of saying the 2020 election was stolen without actually saying it, like a kid in the backseat saying "I'm not touching you!" while waving his fingers in your face.

Some of the on-air talent, such as Gutfeld, started out as Trump-skeptic but underwent conversion experiences. These are genuine

And the Fox News viewership certainly consists almost entirely of MAGAites. Otherwise all the Trump commemorative coin, picture book, watch, etc, ads wouldn't be cost-effective.

Some of the older newsies on Fox, such as Brit Hume and Brett Baier, may not like Trump very much. The Fox Business people have to stay cruelly neutral or no one will watch them (the exception being Maria, who a certain segment of the viewership would watch reading the phone book), but this means they have to admit when Trump's policies work economically. I’m trying to imagine the reaction from Kathy Warden if a Northrop Grumman engineer, no matter how senior or how talented, chose to publicly defy her the way Scott Pelley is (widely) reported to have defied Bari Weiss. Yeah, the disgruntled engineer could be hired by a competitor like Raytheon or Lockheed, but the others will take heed.

Toughen up Bari! Always remember the old management saying — it’s not the people you’ve fired who keep you awake at night, it’s the prople you haven’t fired who keep you awake at night. You’re being tested, Bari, but also watched how you respond to the test.

“3Q GDP 4.3%?“

Third-quarter growth was boosted by hefty investment in AI infrastructure and healthy consumer spending by wealthier Americans — especially on electric vehicles ahead of the expiration of Biden-era subsidies. Healthcare spending also increased.

Back in 2000, healthcare spending was 5% of a typical US family budget. Today, it's 10% and projected to grow. Doesn't bode well for consumer spending in other areas.

Wow, what a great economy!

The headline 4.3% annualized US GDP growth sounds impressive, but it obscures the quarterly arithmetic. Annualisation flatters what was, in reality, a modest increase in actual output over the quarter - only a few hundred billion dollars added to a roughly $30tn economy. Over the same period, federal debt rose by close to $1tn in cash terms. In simple quarterly dollars, the US is therefore adding to its debt several times faster than it is expanding real economic output, even in a “strong” growth quarter.

Here’s a newsflash: Trump isn’t going to be president forever. He can’t run again. Everybody knows this. There are some people in the Republican Party who don’t want to continue Trump‘s policies of helping Israel. No one‘s dividing the Republican Party except for those people and they’re making their move.

I'd think it would be a nice bit of journolisting, or even journalism, to list the deportees and which ones were convicted of crimes committed in the US, which ones were simply here on deportation orders they were hiding from, which ones were caught in the same raids as the convicted criminals, and so on. You know, facts.

All that would be great, but the one thing the story must include is how many had gotten "refuge" status to prevent deportation to their originating country, forcing the hand of any administration on either keeping them here illegally or deporting them to whatever country was willing to take them. If they don't like CECOT, Sudan seems to be an option.

The Inflation Rate over Biden’s term was 4.95%.

The Consumer Price Index rose 21.5% during Biden’s term.

After adjusting for inflation, private-sector average weekly earnings shrank 4%.

The average weekly earnings of all private-sector workers rose 16.7%, not nearly enough to compensate for rising prices. In “real” (inflation-adjusted) terms, weekly earnings fell 4%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That reversed nearly half the gains of the previous four years, when real weekly earnings increased 8.6%

Those figures apply to all private-sector workers, including executives and professionals. But the story was similar for rank-and-file production and nonsupervisory workers — who make up 81% of the entire private-sector workforce. For them, the drop in real weekly earnings under Biden was 2%, following a 9.5% increase over the previous four years.
