I always hated 60 minutes. They were always biased and leftwing. People watched them in the 70s and 80s because they had little choice. You watched PBS/ABC/NBC/CBS. Once we got cable TV and I could see the C-Span and the Cable TV news programs i left and never came back.
One reason I stopped watching is they kept their geriatric "correspondents" on the show forever. I think Morley Safer (with his horrible arent' foriegners funny pieces) stayed till 100 and the same was true of wallace.

You see, Bari was classically trained like me to seek out the subject of an article and if a strong assertion is made by a critic, to get the response from the admin. The architect of the current program would vbe a natural source.
Then you let the reader digest the facts (what is the issue, how is it implemented, who is doing it, when will it start/end) along with the official statement; provide space to the critic to lay out their analysis; circle back to the admin for an official response.
The fact we have drifted so far that every story has to have a leftist narrative and seeking comment from a subject of an article is considered "stenographer." But then Mark is an idiot and cannot tell the difference between letting the subject speak enough to articulate a POV and letting them write the whole article, as the WHPC did for four years under Autopen.
There is no journalist today who would allow Trump full editorial control like Obama and Biden had. And that is a GOOD thing.

CBS News is an entertainment organization whose audience consists of lifelong devoted Democrats. It isn’t fair to have balanced reporting because it upsets their audience.

The NYT is not great on the chronology of these requests. I will accept that low-level WH press people told Alfonsi and her producers to FOAD. But then on Thursday, Bari apparently gave them Miller's direct number. Did Alfonsi then try to contact Miller? Did she go back to Bari and say "Miller told me to FOAD, too?" Did Bari then call Miller herself and ask "Why'd you tell my girl to FOAD?"
Or did Alfonsi take Miller's number and walk off mumbling "yeah, I'm gonna call this guy. Right."?
Also, will the coverage of this lead to a big 60 Minutes interview of Miller now? Like devote the whole 48 minutes of actual show time just to him on a Sunday afternoon? And see how well Alfonsi does interviewing an actual MAGA thought leader?

I watched The 60 Minutes episode. It's more about the prison conditions at CECOT in El Salvador than it is about Trump et al. Where it is about Trump CBS says what is standard for all news organizations to say: "Homeland Security denied our request for an interview." And "The government in El Salvador did not respond to our request."
I agree any good story should have all sides explaining their side but how many news stories do this? Especially when one party refuses to respond. If all news stories were spiked for this reason, we would have a lot less news. So long as it is understood by the reader / viewer that one side did not respond then that has always acceptable.
If this had happened under Biden, there would have been a million free speech tweets and articles and press releases about this. Instead, it’s crickets.
Weiss was doing the left a favor in shelving this story- far too many Americans would have been favorably disposed toward's Bukele's methods of fighting crime. You can't fight criminal gangs with kid gloves.
