(The National Desk, Fri, September 13th 2024 at 10:45 AM) "Multiple Pennsylvania lawmakers this week expressed outrage over a proposal which would see migrants housed in a local abandoned school building.
The Scotland School for Veterans Children was founded in 1895 to educate the children of Pennsylvania service members. Its 185-acre campus in Chambersburg was shuttered in 2009, leaving 70 buildings vacant including a library, gym and chapel.
Indiana-based disaster response company USA Up Star, which currently owns the property, contacted the Greene Township Board of Supervisors in August to inquire about converting the campus to migrant housing. That project, it wrote, involved “working closely with the U.S. Government.”
The board sent a response letter to USA Up Star denying its request to use the property “for purposes of providing shelter.” Township zoning regulations, it wrote, prevented the company from creating the shelter.
The board’s letter mentioned USA Up Star could appeal the decision. However, the board told The National Desk (TND) Friday it has not received a response since issuing its decision.
Lawmakers this week released statements reviling the proposal. Such a plan, they wrote, would have a significant negative impact on the community.
“We are united in our opposition to illegal immigrants being housed by federal government contractors in Franklin County,” a combined press release from state Rep. Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, and state Sen. Doug Mastriano, R-Adams/Franklin, reads. “We join with our neighbors, friends and constituents committed to defending Franklin County from the foreign invasion coming from our southern border."
Also speaking out were the Franklin County Commissioners, who expressed concern over the increased demand on the county’s limited resources posed by the migrants.
“Though we have no involvement in this project, we do have significant concerns about its impact on our county,” they wrote. “While these minors would be housed on the Scotland campus, the influx of support staff – and their families – would be overwhelming for our local communities.”
“In addition to impacting the housing market, an increase in population puts an increased demand on basic services such as water, sewer, trash removal and broadband,” they added. “It also puts a strain on school systems, child care services, physical and behavioral health care providers, and public safety personnel such as our fire departments, EMS, police and the criminal justice system.”
USA Up Star did not respond to a request for comment from TND via email Friday."
......besides, the Mayor, the City Council, and certain stalwart members of the Chamber of Commerce have several large, attractive properties that are available for rent at highly competitive rates, located conveniently near to several local manufacturing sites.......
Just accidentally read the NY Times article titled "How Harris's attempts to neutralize immigration issue failed". Ya think? My mistake to think I would get honest analysis rather than total drivel.
It is a masterpiece of misinformation, disinformation, and BS. Editorializing masquerading as reporting. Perfect example of bias that the writer utilized to corrupt her analysis, and the editor chose to run with. Started with the first sentence.
expecting news from the times is ridiculous. the last time they were honest and open was when they endorsed lincoln in 1860-64. always remember they won a pulitzer price for the reporting done that said their was no famine in Ukraine under stalin. During the time Duranty was 'reporting', it was impossible to go to any city or village without tripping over bodies.During this time, people disappeared, and never heard from again. the times was, and is, a huge supporter of Marxism. Just avoid looking at the bodies. If they weren't supported by a billionaire, they would have gone under decades ago.

I live in an interesting time. Tyson v Paul, Trump v Woke, Kennedy v Kennedy, Oprah v Kelly, Elon v complacency, etc. What a time to be alive.
I'll send them a sternly worded email.

Statistics say toss-ups should go 50/50 Dem/Rep; Political Reality says they WILL go 80/20 Dem/Rep.
