Said Ben Wikler, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, quoted in "Why Republicans Could Impeach a Liberal Judge Before She’s Heard a Case/Republicans in Wisconsin have floated impeaching a newly seated liberal State Supreme Court justice who is threatening conservatives’ grip on state politics" (NYT).

I'd like to see a bald faced political railroading. Start collecting them for a prisoner swap...
Democrats apparently do not like the world that they built. Wait until they find out that one can be indicted and brought to trial for a political disagreement with someone in power.
Fuck the Dems...the Rs are just playing by the new rules.
not sure how it works in Wisco.. but to impeach a judge, don't you have to show cause?
Something like the judge VOWING that once she's elected, she will throw decisions based not on the law, but on her political leanings?
Or, skewing the rules so that the chief justice is no longer in chief?
or things like that?
Impeachment will only end up biting the GOP. Yet, in concept it does not seem silly if it pertains to a judge who admits she has decided the case well before she hears the arguments or read the briefs.
Ben Wikler and his MoveOn cabal put the ridiculous Judge Janet on the court and now are giddy about using both the remaining conservative justices' overblown reaction to her, and the R legislature's absurd threat to impeach, to achieve other directly polical ends. Wikler and cretins like him (on both sides) are the every worst our political system shits out. But we get both the government and the parasites who suck from it that we deserve. He loves this, and we will get more of it and more like him both in Wisconsin and nationally. Enjoy if you can.
Lawfare and trench warfare affect both sides equally.
This is our national manifest destiny for the next generation.
What Democrats, Liberals, and progressives in Wisconsin need is a good, full dose of Democrats, Liberals, and progressives. Like they've got in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, and LA. And Minneapolis. Baltimore. Chicago. St. Louis. New Orleans. New York (where Rat Tours are the latest thing).
It's got to get bad- real bad- before the Dems and Liberals say they've had enough. But it'll have to get even worse for some of the progressives to give in and admit that they don't like being hit on the head while getting raped as they're trying to walk their kid to school. This mid-way thing going on in Wisconsin is pointless. Just...let them have it for a few years. Arm up, stock up, stand back and hunker down. Let the libs and progs have their way with it. Even they will eventually find their level of disgust has been reached.
Then you can walk back in and take it.
Karma.
Anybody can weaponize politics.
I feared this impeachment stuff would get out of hand. The Republicans never should have impeached Clinton, and the Democrats impeachments of Trump were ridiculous. The first one now looks like it was to hide Biden's influence peddling and the second; sure, go ahead, impeach someone who just left office. Idiots.
Anyone remember the NYT thumb-sucker about fireballs eating up the US House over impeachments?
Surely there must be some way we can just imprison these fascist Republicans! This is a threat to democracy!
Liberals wield the double-edged scalpel.
Very on brand for Wisconsin Republicans. The Protasiewicz race became a proxy referendum on abortion. And it wasn’t close. So, a do-over post-impeachment vote would guarantee that abortion would be again the dominant issue in Wisconsin throughout the presidential election year. Seems shortsighted on the part of Wisconsin Republicans.
Do it, it’s what democrats are doing right now. Cry me a river, if we are not courageous enough to fight back using the same democrat corruption of the legal system we deserve to get our teeth kicked in.
What did Ben expect?
That kid in Kenosha was run through a criminal trial when he was exercising his right to self-defense?
Biden wants to lock Trump up for the rest of his life.
A number of people have been jailed for protesting on J6.
I say, go for it. She prejudged the case. She must recuse herself.
The real solution is to no longer elect judges in WI. Do it the Nebraska way. The Governor appoints and then the judges stand for retention.
Wickler has the various Wisconsin media organizations ready and waiting to repeat his propaganda. Goebbels wishes he was so fortunate in his allies.
This new judge is a dope. She should have followed RBG's approach. Something like, "No hints. No previews."
But everyone knew how she would vote.
It was a kabooki dance.
Impeachment is a Democrat tactic, just like political RICO indictments. Wonder of wonders ! 61 Democrat brown shirts just got a RICO indictment for domestic terrorism.
Fuck those crooked Democrats!
If Republicans want to try to keep up with the Democrats in the political sleaze game, they need to keep up with the Democrats in the other sleaze game--PR. They can't do what the Democrats do while the Democrats hold all the levers for spin.
I grant that impeaching Bill Clinton was a mistake but the day after the blue dress confirmed his guilt, Sam Donaldson (Sam Donaldson !) was wondering when he would resign and thought it was a good idea. What it did, in failing, was to push him hard left when he had given up much of his leftist agenda after the 1994 wipeout
They must be very scared about the WI SC loosening the grip Republicans have on permanent Republican majorities in House and Senate. WI is one of the worst cases of gerrymandering in the country. Overturning elections is not going to play well with Democrats and there would be huge backlash. Also Governor Evers can appoint a replacement.
Good.

As long as there's a single conservative protesting the state of things, there won't be a Dem / Liberal that admits they've had enough. And there won't be a Republican that will hold them accountable in the midst of their mess, they'll just keep adjusting their position to affect a sorrowful, 'conservative' spin on the current sad state of things. That's the problem.
another IgnaRant®…
These Wisconsin Democrats are cheese that has turned. Rotten and unfit.
I'm so old I remember when impeaching people was cool.
Dear Ann,
Can you summarize the article given that not everyone has access to the NYT? Even just a few sentences would be appreciated.
Also, why does the NYT even care, beyond their need to seek out any Republican action they can find to ridicule in order to reassure their readers they are superior to the fly-over racist rubes?
"But we get both the government and the parasites who suck from it that we deserve."
Not if elections are rigged.
"WI is one of the worst cases of gerrymandering in the country."
yawn
Really, Inga, you need some new material.
The Dullard thinks anybody who votes for Republicans, which most of the state does, is "gerrymandering." Madison and Milwaukee are not the state.
I'm guessing Ben reads the Althouse blog because he is/was friends with one of Ann's sons.
Ben: Here's the deal. Your side started this mutually assured political destruction game. Don't complain when the other side comes after your side. Politics ain't bean bag.
That dopey judge should have kept her mouth shut. If she can't do the kabooki dance, then she needs to go. Not smart enough to be on the WI S. Ct.
I remain dumbfounded about direct election of judges. That's a recipe for corruption. We don't do that in NE.
The political repercussion threats are so eight years ago. Knee cap a few and see what happens. Politics moves quickly these days. You need to keep up, they need to keep up.
Live by impeachment. Die by impeachment.
We tried to warn you leftists, but you didn't listen.
Embrace the suck.
They must be very scared about the WI SC loosening the grip Republicans have on permanent Republican majorities in House and Senate.
Yeah. I'm sure that's it.
Or - and I know this is a difficult concept for people like you - maybe, just maybe, the judge could've kept her trap shut and she wouldn't be in this situation.
@ Inga: Under the Wisconsin Constitution, after the Assembly vote, the justice would be immediately suspended.
“No judicial officer shall exercise his office, after he shall have been impeached, until his acquittal.”
https://pbswisconsin.org/news-item/what-are-the-prospects-of-wisconsin-republicans-impeaching-protasiewicz/
But — what if the Wisconsin GOP Senate has no intention of holding any trial, or taking any vote on the impeachment. There will be no conviction or acquittal. As a result, Protasiewicz would be in a sort of permanent limbo. The court, which is already thoroughly dysfunctional, would be deadlocked 3-3.
"WI is one of the worst cases of gerrymandering in the country."
Really? Show me the twisty, turny, districts and I'll buy it. Otherwise, your full of it.
"But everyone knew how she would vote."
As we did for Kelly, her opponent.
The general form is, same as Mein Kampf, purify the politics by throwing out the scapegoat Jews. Each side has the other as scapegoat. When the scapegoats are gone, virtue will finally rule.
Purification politics is everything today. Getting rid of the other side.
You have to seduce the electorate.
I don’t like it, but I didn’t make the new rules.
“It was a kabooki dance.”
No, Dave, this qualifies as a kakooky dance.
I don't think that the Supreme Court of a State can go fishing for things to overturn, so I guess that a law passed in WI on the Demo hit list will have to be challenged in a favorable Demo district like Milwaukee or Madison, Green Bay or Beloit, and the local judge will provide the injunction. This takes time so there is a damper effect.
The two legislative bodies should flood the zone with a steady supply of laws of similar intent to put a further lag in the process.
But replacing the Teachers Union Guv is necessary. Tactically, I would propose the Repubs pass abortion for 10 days after birth to take this defining issue off the table. Extreme? who is not? You are fooling yourself if you think a 12 week ban will do anything but destroy Republican power for good in 99.9% of other policy.
Take your moral anti abortionism and shove it. It helps no one, Moral cri de cour only gives you a dopamine hit.
"Or - and I know this is a difficult concept for people like you - maybe, just maybe, the judge could've kept her trap shut and she wouldn't be in this situation."
Unbunch your panties, dude. She violated no rule, as was made clear by the judicial review of her statements that was released yesterday.
It's funny that people who are willing to ignore anything that Clarence Thomas is involved in (or his wife), but flip out over this.
And no, no impeachment for now. Wisconsin is not DC. Just wait a bit.
OT, but Ray Razabalucci, you magnificent bastard! Trying to cross the Atlantic in your homemade, human-sized floating hamster wheel vessel!
Heroic Florida Man!

People in places like New Jersey, Connecticut, and even New York and California used to say stuff like that, too.
We didn't make these rules. We don't want these rules. These rules are extremely destructive. Both for people and for country.
But thems the rules. Ya'll set out the terms.
And now we're gonna fkin play. And you Democrats are not going to like the game. Or the result.
But we're gonna fking play.

That could very well be what they are planning. The backlash will be severe.
"Why Republicans Could Impeach a Liberal Judge Before She’s Heard a Case"
Was that wrong? Should we not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first took office here that that sort of thing is frowned upon... you know, cause I've held a lot of offices, and I tell you, people do that all the time.
Would Wikler say that if he really had a fireball to unleash? Or is this a bluff?
Demo tactics, I’ll do something outrageous. Republicans complain. See! I told you they were outrageous!

The changes to their property tax, once Act 10 is rolled back, may do it.

Simple enough- Protasiewicz resigns. Evers appoints a liberal to replace her (preferably a Black woman just to really piss the Know Nothings off), then Protasiewicz runs again in the next election.
Russia Collusion Truther and Hillary/FBI Hoax Dossier Dead Endrr Inga: "That could very well be what they are planning. The backlash will be severe."
Recall Inga the lunatic accused Brett Kavanaugh of being a serial gang rapist and demanded he withdraw from his nomination.
Discuss.
Dumb Lefty Mark: "Unbunch your panties, dude. She violated no rule, as was made clear by the judicial review of her statements that was released yesterday."
LOLxInfinity
First of all, debatable.
Second of all, you New Soviet Democraticals have taken us over the cliff and there is no coming back.
But it is adorable that you dumb lefties take time out from smearing and attempting to corruptly run Justices Thomas and Alito off the Supreme Court and imprisoning your political opponents for calling out your obvious electoral cheating to complain about one of your own being held to account.
I imagine that's similar to what the Mensheviks were screaming when the Bolsheviks turned on them.
@ Inga: If Protasiewicz were to resign to let Evers restore the liberal majority, the new appointee would have to stand for re-election in the Spring 2024 election, setting up another high-stakes huge-dollar ideological clash.
Josephbleu concludes: “Take your moral anti abortionism and shove it. It helps no one, Moral cri de cour only gives you a dopamine hit.”
Likewise, take your Obama-driven partial birth abortion and shove it even deeper. You hurt everyone by cheapening the value of human life.
This is all exactly what the right warned the public would happen, and the public voted her in anyway. So, democracy in action!
Wisconsin is trying to push my Minnesota out of first place for "those whacky commies!" It'll be a hard fight, but I think Minnesota will keep its title. But barely . . .
Democrats wake up each day with no memory of past actions.
Specifically the anonymous investigation of Gov Walker, for crimes to be determined later. Democrats love that kind of abuse of power. Hate when the favor is returned.
Face it. Democrats educated the nation on the fact, impeachments are nothing but political punishment. politics aint bean bag.

Let's not forget Nixon. He wasn't impeached, but the result was even more extreme.
Oh no! The Republicans are violating norms!

I'm sorry. I didn't realize I mentioned her violating any rule.
My bad.
(preferably a Black woman just to really piss the Know Nothings off),
Specifically appoint a black woman for nothing more than political ramifications ... and then call us the racists.
I'd ask if you hear yourselves, but it's quite obvious you don't.
Just one thing to mention- Clinton was impeached for an actual law violation. His non-conviction for that was the political act.
Trump was impeached for political reasons- and lack of conviction for the same.
And Hunter Biden and the other Clinton who was a wannabe POTUS have broken the law. And likely POTUS Biden has also- but investigate that? No...
Jim,
The sad alternative is that they do hear themselves *and they like the sound of it*.
I can't help but laugh when Party A says, "Don't do that, Party B, or you'll get in trouuuuuublllle...!!"
