Democrats apparently do not like the world that they built. Wait until they find out that one can be indicted and brought to trial for a political disagreement with someone in power.

not sure how it works in Wisco.. but to impeach a judge, don't you have to show cause?
Something like the judge VOWING that once she's elected, she will throw decisions based not on the law, but on her political leanings?
Or, skewing the rules so that the chief justice is no longer in chief?
or things like that?

Mike Petrik said...

Impeachment will only end up biting the GOP. Yet, in concept it does not seem silly if it pertains to a judge who admits she has decided the case well before she hears the arguments or read the briefs.

Ben Wikler and his MoveOn cabal put the ridiculous Judge Janet on the court and now are giddy about using both the remaining conservative justices' overblown reaction to her, and the R legislature's absurd threat to impeach, to achieve other directly polical ends. Wikler and cretins like him (on both sides) are the every worst our political system shits out. But we get both the government and the parasites who suck from it that we deserve. He loves this, and we will get more of it and more like him both in Wisconsin and nationally. Enjoy if you can.

What Democrats, Liberals, and progressives in Wisconsin need is a good, full dose of Democrats, Liberals, and progressives. Like they've got in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, and LA. And Minneapolis. Baltimore. Chicago. St. Louis. New Orleans. New York (where Rat Tours are the latest thing).

It's got to get bad- real bad- before the Dems and Liberals say they've had enough. But it'll have to get even worse for some of the progressives to give in and admit that they don't like being hit on the head while getting raped as they're trying to walk their kid to school. This mid-way thing going on in Wisconsin is pointless. Just...let them have it for a few years. Arm up, stock up, stand back and hunker down. Let the libs and progs have their way with it. Even they will eventually find their level of disgust has been reached.

Then you can walk back in and take it.

I feared this impeachment stuff would get out of hand. The Republicans never should have impeached Clinton, and the Democrats impeachments of Trump were ridiculous. The first one now looks like it was to hide Biden's influence peddling and the second; sure, go ahead, impeach someone who just left office. Idiots.

Very on brand for Wisconsin Republicans. The Protasiewicz race became a proxy referendum on abortion. And it wasn’t close. So, a do-over post-impeachment vote would guarantee that abortion would be again the dominant issue in Wisconsin throughout the presidential election year. Seems shortsighted on the part of Wisconsin Republicans.

Do it, it’s what democrats are doing right now. Cry me a river, if we are not courageous enough to fight back using the same democrat corruption of the legal system we deserve to get our teeth kicked in.

What did Ben expect?

That kid in Kenosha was run through a criminal trial when he was exercising his right to self-defense?

Biden wants to lock Trump up for the rest of his life.

A number of people have been jailed for protesting on J6.

I say, go for it. She prejudged the case. She must recuse herself.

The real solution is to no longer elect judges in WI. Do it the Nebraska way. The Governor appoints and then the judges stand for retention.

I grant that impeaching Bill Clinton was a mistake but the day after the blue dress confirmed his guilt, Sam Donaldson (Sam Donaldson !) was wondering when he would resign and thought it was a good idea. What it did, in failing, was to push him hard left when he had given up much of his leftist agenda after the 1994 wipeout

Inga said...

They must be very scared about the WI SC loosening the grip Republicans have on permanent Republican majorities in House and Senate. WI is one of the worst cases of gerrymandering in the country. Overturning elections is not going to play well with Democrats and there would be huge backlash. Also Governor Evers can appoint a replacement.

As long as there's a single conservative protesting the state of things, there won't be a Dem / Liberal that admits they've had enough. And there won't be a Republican that will hold them accountable in the midst of their mess, they'll just keep adjusting their position to affect a sorrowful, 'conservative' spin on the current sad state of things. That's the problem.

Also, why does the NYT even care, beyond their need to seek out any Republican action they can find to ridicule in order to reassure their readers they are superior to the fly-over racist rubes?

@ Inga: Under the Wisconsin Constitution, after the Assembly vote, the justice would be immediately suspended.
“No judicial officer shall exercise his office, after he shall have been impeached, until his acquittal.”
https://pbswisconsin.org/news-item/what-are-the-prospects-of-wisconsin-republicans-impeaching-protasiewicz/

But — what if the Wisconsin GOP Senate has no intention of holding any trial, or taking any vote on the impeachment. There will be no conviction or acquittal. As a result, Protasiewicz would be in a sort of permanent limbo. The court, which is already thoroughly dysfunctional, would be deadlocked 3-3.

I don't think that the Supreme Court of a State can go fishing for things to overturn, so I guess that a law passed in WI on the Demo hit list will have to be challenged in a favorable Demo district like Milwaukee or Madison, Green Bay or Beloit, and the local judge will provide the injunction. This takes time so there is a damper effect.

The two legislative bodies should flood the zone with a steady supply of laws of similar intent to put a further lag in the process.

But replacing the Teachers Union Guv is necessary. Tactically, I would propose the Repubs pass abortion for 10 days after birth to take this defining issue off the table. Extreme? who is not? You are fooling yourself if you think a 12 week ban will do anything but destroy Republican power for good in 99.9% of other policy.

Take your moral anti abortionism and shove it. It helps no one, Moral cri de cour only gives you a dopamine hit.

But it is adorable that you dumb lefties take time out from smearing and attempting to corruptly run Justices Thomas and Alito off the Supreme Court and imprisoning your political opponents for calling out your obvious electoral cheating to complain about one of your own being held to account.
