Sunrise composition.

IMG_0507

That's my composition, but not my bike (so don't come after me for the transgression of the no-bikes rule that prevails at this location).

Silence is violence! I hope you strongly confronted the bicycle transgressor.

The bike is there, hence the rule did not prevail.

My brain glitched when I opened your blog and read the title as "Sunrise Competition".

Then I realized that is kind of an Althouse thing to do. Might I suggest putting up your 5 favorite sunrises at some point, the next time you want to run a poll of your readers?

Shootings in Milwaukee after an NBA game? 20 people injured, including children?

Love that strong composition. You must have been inspired by the bike, the curving wall and the matching pathways. Then you picked that dynamite composition of the Damascene conversion of Paul. And chiaroscuro in both. Good work!

I see Joe Biden has ordered flags flown at half staff in memory of his lie that there was something that he could do, that Trump didn't do, to stop the pandemic deaths, err, I mean because deaths reached one million now, from that lab experiment in Wuhan that Fauci changed the definition of "gain of function" in order to fund. Imagine modifying a virus from a bat to optimize its ability to infect humans...

Oh yeah and regular gasoline in Upstate New York is at $4.85 and diesel at $6.50, we are not talking about California here, so all in all, it's been one more banner day in the Biden presidency.

A fixed gear bike (pedals always moving) or "fixie", right? That means, in all probability, the rider is in their 20s (I've rarely seen anyone over the age of 30 riding one). Impressive that a young person would rouse themselves from slumber before sunrise and pedal to a nice vantage point to sit serenely watching.

A composite glimpse of a bike, a figure, a guard, a sheet glimmering in the sunlight's bloom.

"Sun like an hourglass."

Yes, I had that thought too.

"Is that the Buddha sitting on a pedestal?"

I like the idea that Buddha would ride a bike... to get to the sunrise in time.

There better be a very good reason for prohibiting bicycles on a nature path.

I thought the sun looked like an atomic bomb going off. The biker says, "To heck with the rules now."

They used to be allowed, but I think they were interfering with the safety and enjoyment of the pedestrians, runners, and babies in carriages that are more numerous and more gentle. Why bikers don’t show deference to walkers, I cannot fathom. They abused the privilege of the shared path. Not all, of course, but enough that the new rule was chosen.

Wide angle lanscape photography tip. Taught by Galen Rowell to the pro who taught me. The biggest problem with landscape images is they have too much and seem flat compared with the depth you see with your own eyes.

Each scene should be composed with elements of near, middle, and far. The bicycle serves as the near. Actually, you should have gotten closer to the bike, or move the bike closer to you (I have done sand dunes where I carried the tumbleweed with me to position close to my camera).

This image has all three elements, near=bike, middle= trees, far=sunset. This is a better composed image than most.

Last tip for everyone. Take an inventory of what is in your shot. The more you list the worse the composition.
