Went walking and the streets are bone-dry here in Montana. So weird.
My old bandleader drives a school bus now and stopped to say hi. Glad we're not trying to play music anymore. Live music is dead in this county. The nuts in the Bitterroot are still partying tho.
Near the beginning of this 25 minute video by igpcolorado there is a movie of the transformations that Colorado has gone through since the Cambrian. This is unusual, or at least I'm not finding many examples of such a detailed history of transformation on YouTube. After writing that I realized that over half a million people have viewed this, which is astonishingly high number for anything to do with geology.
So clearly I'm not the only person to think there is something special about it.
A winter’s day In a deep and dark dystopia I’m not alone Crouching to my left A very pissed off badger I am suspect I have no cheese to give I grab a rock Where is that tiiiiiire iron?
So I've been searching for photos of damage to the Capitol after the rightwing nutter rampage.
I have seen broken glass and furniture, damaged doorways, minor random vandalism, and some upset desks and offices. Oh yeah, a bust of Zachary Taylor was stained with blood (but since when has that been a problem?)
The curators are concerned with tear gas and fire extinguisher residue.
What I have not seen are toppled statues, attempts at arson, or evidence that the true malcontents among the crowd were capable of leadership or even finding their way to their targets.
This is the filtered sun that AA says she likes. It reduces the chances of skin cancer, or at least sunburn. It's awful gloomy but look on the bright side.
The daffodils and hyacinths I got with my stimulus money are budding and blooming without a care. I have a lot to learn about paper whites. My beautiful green pebbles were too big and that was just the start.
I am finally reading Bob Novak's book, "Prince of Darkness." Being as old as I am , I probably enjoy it more than someone younger would. I remember the politicians in the late 50s he writes about in the early chapters. One of my favorite books about politics is Allan Drury's "A Senate Journal." It was his early experiences in DC as a reporter. He later based much of his novel, "Advise and Consent" on that recollection.
One problem is the contrast between those days and today's grifters. Novak worked for the Wall Street Journal for a while and had no idea about the business stories he was supposed to write. He found a great help from Senator Russell Long, who could explain complicated legislation to him. Does anyone think there is a Senator who could do that today ?
Mr. Mostofsky is a 34 year old registered Democrat and the son of a New York Judge. He is seen in the picture above dressed in fur, carrying a stick and wearing a bullet proof police vest he had stolen. Mostofsky is standing beside the man who carried a Confederate flag into the event. This indicates they possibly knew each other and both appear to be outsiders and leftist demons plotting to smear Trump supporters.
I don't know that I would call them "demons" but they are not good guys for sure.
"MISINFORMATION” IS OUR NEW CHINESE-STYLE CODE WORD FOR “WRONGTHINK.” Duke profs suggest Biden pursue ‘new laws’ to combat ‘misinformation.’ from instapundit. Somebody tell me who the fascists are here.
As with Communists and modernism, there was nothing inevitable about the match. Most consumers don’t know that by using internet-based (or -generated) platforms—by buying from Amazon, by staying in an Airbnb, by ordering on Grubhub, by friending people on Facebook—that they are subscribing to a life of flatness, one that can lead directly into certain politics. But they are. Seduced by convenience, we end up paying for the flattening of our own lives. It is not an accident that progressive ideas spread faster on the internet. The internet is a car that runs on flatness; progressive politics—unlike either conservatism or liberalism—are flatness. (from Everything's Broken, an interesting rumination on out modern situation)
J. Farmer: I enjoy the variety of viewpoints one gets here at the Althouse blog. Your insights are worth reading and it's unfortunate that you're stepping back. Enjoy your hiatus.
Here Comes New Speak – Biden* White House To Ban Usage Of Any “Gendered” Language.
Meaning Spanish?
Or Kurdish? "In Northern Kurdish language (Kurmanji), the same word can have two genders according to the context. For example, if the word dar (meaning wood or tree) is feminine, it means that it is a living tree (e.g. dara sêvê means "apple tree"), but if it is masculine, it means that it is dead, no longer living (e.g. darê sêvê means "apple wood"). So if one wants to say that a certain table is made of the wood from an apple tree, one cannot use the word dar with a feminine gender, and if one wants to refer to an apple tree in a garden, one cannot use dar with a masculine gender."
Meaning the Wuvulu-Aua language? In the Austronesian Wuvulu-Aua language, vocative words used when addressing a relative often specify the speaker's gender. For example, tafi means 'sister of female', ʔari means opposite-gender sibling, and wane means female's father's sister or female's brother's daughter" wikipedia "Grammatical gender"
Klingon seems OK The Klingon language does not discriminate between "he" or "she" so it would be a good basis for a new White House language breaking with BadPast. Of course, Klingon does not discriminate between "it," meaning animate and "it," meaning inanimate; but is this a bug or a feature in a Biden* White House?
"From my perspective, I think fairly primeval forces having to do with identity, cultural anxiety, economic insecurity, inequality, class, race, and ethnicity. We're trying to have a nation-state but without a nation. The American nation has been dismantled, and we've attempted to replace it with some kind of impersonal, neutral framework of rules and procedures. I think this is doomed to fail, because a nation is fundamentally a moral project. Without a shared set of values, customs, symbols, and traditions, we are not a people. We are merely too atomized to work together cooperatively towards a common vision."
"The elite, by contrast, are united. United in their interests and united by a shared urban cosmopolitan culture. Unmoored by tradition and motivated by their own sense of entitlement and self-importance. Elitism is the rule of a disorganized majority by an organized minority. They run the bureaucracies, the media, the universities, the financial institutions, the major multinational corporations, the arms industry, the think tanks, the policy=planning committees, etc. They move seamlessly between the board rooms, the news rooms, and the West Wing. By just focusing on national elections every couple of years, we can never solve that problem."
I agree with all of that, J. Farmer. I read it and I recognize that as being true.
Now I don't read every comment on every thread. And there are many threads are I never even open. And sometimes I get quite irritated about something you have said.
But I have read what seems like many of your comments, even if it is only 10% of what you have written. And you're knowledgeable about a great many things, and that is great. You are very critical of quite a few of the many beliefs that various people on the right tend to have. It's not all one thing of course, although I'm not sure how clearly you see that. So that's fine. And that is part of having a discussion -- the different views.
But what I don't recall seeing is you stating what it is that you think we should do. I try to guess at where you are coming from -- what else can I do -- since you don't directly state what you are for.
I've gotten the message loud and clear that you don't think we should be involved in wars in other countries -- like for instance protecting Taiwan from China. But that does nothing really to address the issues you so ably state above.
Here Comes New Speak – Biden* White House To Ban Usage Of Any “Gendered” Language.
Our society has been on a progressive path ever since sex was deemed politically congruent ("=") to gender, diversity (i.e. color judgment) not limited to racism was normalized, babies were socially distanced from Fetal-Americans, etc.
What about the Census? Can we report the results which include the words "male" and "female" and other BadPast categories such as "married" and "age." What about election polls? " 'Its' in the suburbs broke for Biden*" isn't very illuminating.
NYT, NYT, NYT, New Yorker, Fox News. Not much interested in anything from those sources, political or social. Slowly disengaging from Althouse as go-to site. Sad.
It's my first full winter (so far) out of the Midwest in about 50 year. I'd see visions like that pic all the time. In the Twin Cities we used to call the area,"the upper midwest" (thanks WCCO weather). My wife and I were supposed to move out west before last winter, but we had to change our plans, so that we could move out west right at the start of the Covid disaster. Really messed up timing, but it worked. We left on March 3rd. I think if we'd put it off another 2 weeks we might not have been able to move.
Anyways, I've really wanted to put the midwest winter scene behind me for a while -maybe forever. It's cool here now, but not cold. Just saw that some of our plants like the rosemary bush are still doing fine. It's a nice change. Maybe kinda miss skating on a pond or a lake from time to time, but not that much . . . . . Defiantly don't miss icy sidewalks!
There's something strange about how we can identify our emotional states with the external environment -- and have the sense that nature speaks to us. This photograph represents what I would call our current collective state -- the pits. Of course thanks to Ann's sunrise project we all know that the scene is not permanent. So there is hope for better days.
I was just thinking about the explanation I heard given why Congressional leaders Pelosi et al when informed of the increased threat level, refused additional forces on 1/6/21 -- because they didn't like the optics. They didn't like the image of them certifying the electoral college votes surrounded by massive armed forces. It gives the image of an election that was not free and fair. When you consider that there will be 20K troops to guard the freely elected President's inauguration -- that photograph perfectly expresses my reaction to this situation in our nation.
Why is there not more conversation on what can be done to clean up our election processes? We can't change what happened, we have to insure this doesn't happen again.
Again, 200,000 trump supporters were at the rally. 200 were in the Capital Hill Building. BTW, its a 45 minute walk from the Trump rally to the building.
Notice how difficult it is to find the following things in the media:
01) quotes from Trump's "horrible speech". 02) Details of the how/where/when for the ONE Policeman "injured" and hospitalized by the violence. And the ONE who died. 03) Anything about the murder of Ashli Babbitt 04) Details about the 3 who died of "Medical emergencies" 05) Dollar amount of property damage. 06) Number of protesters hospitalized and/or injured by the police 07) Identity of the policeman who killed Ashli babbitt 08) Number of Peaceful Trump supporters who were NOT in the capital building
I've found some of this information, but only by hunting for it on the internet.
As Scott Adman remarked, if Trump's speech had truly been an incitement to violence, the Press would've had his words on an endless loop over footage of the riot. Strangely, the press almost NEVER quotes the speech.
And why isn't the press showing us all the gory details of the how the Policeman died and the other one was injured? Why the vagueness and lack of details? why the constant chanting of "Five Dead" instead of endless detailed stories of how the five died?
Curious? No? with Floyd we heard endless chatter about the who/what/when/where/how, but in this case, we get nothing.
BTW, I will give an example of why the Center-right always loses. Floyd gets killed and we get wall-to-wall media coverage for a week, endless speeches by Pols, and every Liberal/Leftist on the internet talking about him and rending their garments. Not to mention real life protest, memorials, etc. The liberal/left made sure EVERYONE knew his name.
Meanwhile, the Center-right says zilch about Ashli Babbitt, most the conservative website are more interested in talking about AOC. But then the Center-right never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Generally speaking, the left side of the brain tends to control many aspects of language and logic, while the right side tends to handle spatial information and visual comprehension.
They intend to "inaugurate" a president to an empty National Mall, surrounded by 20,000 troops, after a "victory" claimed in the dead of night, and certification of electors in the dead of night.

Rasmussen is still doing daily tracking polls. Trump’s job approval—48%. Completely unaffected by the Jan 6 “capital seige” and the media and Democratic hysteria that came after.
Curiously, 50% want him removed from office today, even though his term is up in less than a week. Which, presumably, means that 99% of the people who didn’t vote for him don’t care about letting the constitution decide when the president leaves office. But Trump is the threat to our institutions.
And why isn't the press showing us all the gory details of the how the Policeman died and the other one was injured? Why the vagueness and lack of details?
I find it suspicious, but not odd :) At this point it is clear that the press promotes a propaganda narrative and has no interest in "news". It is difficult to find out what actually happened during any event. The press is always at a disadvantage in such situations because they seldom know much about what they are reporting on, but it seems they have given up entirely and dedicated themselves to the easier task of repeating talking points.
Tucker’s show is the only thing my wife and I watch on Fox. Very informative, but very depressing.
I quit Fox News after Meghan Kelly. Was happy to see Tucker got Bill O'Rielly's time slop, and watched that. It was better in the beginning when libs went on his show. Took them a while, but they smartened up, tired of being the laughing stock the next day.
I DVR Tucker, watch it when I lay down for the night.
What I love about Tucker is he takes a deeper, longer view of events instead of clown clapping over the day's low hanging fruit.
Meanwhile, the Center-right says zilch about Ashli Babbitt,
Center (i.e. conservative) and right (i.e. libertarian) do not conduct witch hunts, hold warlock trials, or generally "protest". They're waiting for and expect due process to clear the "fog of war". The "fog of war" that socially justified the summary abortion of Ashli Babbitt. They hold diverse (i.e. numerical) assemblies; get painted by the Fourth Estate, the Virtual Estate, and em-pathetic or merely pathetic special and peculiar interests; get dismissed; get cancelled; then this process is reduced, reused, and recycled by their competing interests, domestic and foreign.
Wearing a T-shirt reading “Free as F–k,” Rittenhouse was serenaded with the Proud Boys anthem, “Proud of Your Boy” — and then repeatedly made the “OK” sign, which has been “co-opted as a symbol of white supremacy/ white power” and used by neo-Nazis and the KKK, prosecutors alleged.
The Nazis were leftists of "Jew privilege", "selective-Jew" (the "final solution"), and redistributive change fame, but not all leftists are Nazis. The Democrat-affiliated KKK operated a fascist racket, occupying businesses, invading neighborhoods, intimidating people... persons to force them to kneel. Diversity [dogma] (i.e. color judgment), not limited to racism, is a progressive condition that denies individual dignity, individual conscience, intrinsic value, normalizes color quotas, color blocs, and affirmative discrimination. #HateLovesAbortion (the "wicked solution")

That particular Rasmussen poll was a total outlier. Even when it was done -- a few days ago -- it was an outlier by 10 to 20 points. Now it is a distant memory.

They did manage to blame an unrelated retired firemen who was 600 miles away at the time. He is now under police protection as the Twitter mob descended with death threats, etc.
Not much interest in the real events. I'm still reading Novak's book. The good old days.
Rosalyn C said..."Why is there not more conversation on what can be done to clean up our election processes? We can't change what happened, we have to insure this doesn't happen again."
Oh, it's going to happen again. It is going to be made permanent by Federal Law, the proposed H.R. 1 - "For the People Act" (better titled "For Perpetual Democrats Act"
This was the first piece of legislation the House passed in 2019. McConnell let it die the death it deserved. But it has been resurrected. I expect it will get rammed through on a party-line vote.
Heritage did a summary which you can read here. I am surprised more commenters on here have not mentioned it before. I have read other articles on it besides this one, but this is the best quick summary. It appears to me that much of it is unconstitutional but I guess they will plan to pack SCOTUS before they ram it through.
Can somebody with a military background tell me if it is standard protocol to have troops sleeping on marble floors to secure a building? Is this really how it's done? It looks like a church lock-in.

No need to pack it for this. A one sentence dismissal got us on the path we are on--a path that led to a dead woman on the marble floor of the capitol.
Can somebody with a military background tell me if it is standard protocol to have troops sleeping on marble floors to secure a building? Is this really how it's done? It looks like a church lock-in.
It is not. Only a civilian would order the military to do such a thing...for a photo op.
Mrs. Heracles, when she learns from a friend of her husband's that Heracles is returning after a year or more away, at great risk.
By Zeus, do not cheat me of the truth! Speak, and you will find that I am not a spiteful woman nor one who does not know how it is with man -- we cannot always enjoy a constant happiness. How foolish one would be to climb into the ring with Love and try to trade blows with him, like a boxer. For he rules even the Gods as he pleases, and he rules me -- why not another woman like me? You see that I would be altogether mad to blame my husband, because he suffers from this sickness, or that woman. She has been guilty of nothing shameful, and she has done no harm to me. No, it is inconceivable. If you have learned to lie from him, then you are not learning honest lessons..... Are you afraid of hurting me? You are wrong. The only hurt would be not to know. Where is the danger in knowing? One man and many women -- Heracles has had other women before. Never yet has one earned insults from me, or spiteful talk, nor will she, even if she is absorbed in her passion. for I pitied her deeply when I saw her because her own beauty has destroyed her life, and, against her will, this unfortunate girl has sacked and enslaved the land of her fathers. Now let all this flow away on the wind. To you I have this to say: You may be dishonest with others, but never lie to me.
Dear friends, while our visitor is in the house, talking to the captured girls before he leaves, I have come out to you, unobserved. I want to tell you the work my hands have done, but also to have your sympathy as I cry out for all I suffer. For I have taken on a girl -- no, I can think that no longer -- a married woman, as a ship's master takes on cargo, goods that outrage my heart. So now the two of us lie under the one sheet, waiting for his embrace. This is the gift my brave and faithful Heracles sends home to his dear wife to compensate for his long absence!
I'm finding that Tom Clancy novels are more sustainable entertainment than modern movies. There's no drinking problems and long sulks and flashbacks.
There are philosophical passages that can be speed-read through in little more than an instant, reducing spells of self-doubt about the correctness of violence to mere seconds.
The bad guys are mostly Islamic radicals, not white supremacists, which is refreshing for terrorism plots. Hollywood would never do that.
It took Democrats 12 months to impeach President Trump twice.
Good thing Republicans are on the ball with articles of impeachment in the offing. But they are really going to have to step up the speed to get the second done. I took the under 18 months in the pool, until Heels up is installed, so Joe can spend more time with his family. We haven't heard a peep out of Joe since is shamtastical speech.
It is not. Only a civilian would order the military to do such a thing...for a photo op.
That's what I suspected. There is no reason these troops cannot take shifts and enjoy reasonable accommodations like human beings. How pissed would everyone be if we treated immigrants that way?
Instead, our troops get to be stage props. Not awesome.

What would complete the picture would be to have Biden take the Oath of Office while wearing his underwear on the outside.
“ Why is there not more conversation on what can be done to clean up our election processes?”
Because Trumpkins aren’t sincere. I made several suggestions, and pointed out how Canada does it. A bunch of Trumpkins, like Big Mike, told me that they don’t need to learn anything about running elections from Canada. They let their resentments rule. So of course if even they won’t take the issue seriously how can possibly hope to get Democrats to?
Ken B you are under the assumption the Democrats want to fix the voting problems. They don't. Their H. R. 1 bill is going to take what we just went through in WI, MI, PA, and especially GA national and make it Federal law. Go read the summary at Heritage I linked above Would you like to have those changes made to Canada's voting laws? Most Republican districts and Republican dominated state don't have any voting problem. I vote in the most Republican congressional district in America, populated with what the elites think are a bunch of dumb hillbillies, and in the 30 years I've lived there we've never had a problem, not one. Same for the whole state of TN, even corrupt Memphis.
Remember the names Marc Elias and Stacy Abrams. They made the mess and among the Democrats they are now considered heroes for what they did to the election.
And Marc Elias is an attorney with Perkins Core law firm. Where have we heard that before? Oh, that's right, the Russian collusion hoax. And he was right in the middle of that, too.
Mandrewa! Thank you so much for that. I just watched it twice. I've been to Colorado three times this year and I love it so much! I'm in awe of the geology there. Thank you again!
Then There's this... https://noqreport.com/2021/01/15/james-brother-of-accused-leftist-provocateur-john-sullivan-claims-226-antifa-members-started-capitol-riots/
There will be no civil war. Consider the fall of the Soviet Union. Like the other great European Empires, the Soviet Union imploded the weight of its ethnic problems. There were too many ethnic, national, cultural and religious components. Too much diversity. I think our open borders will drive us to a similar fate. But there is hope. When the USSR disbanded, there was very little violence and none of the cataclysmic consequences promised by the "experts." So if we disband, we'll just go our separate ways.
Isn't amazing though? The Soviet Union survived two devastating wars, famines involving millions of deaths and a rapid, brutal industrialization. Stalin even annihilated a couple million more. But in the end, the Ukrainians, Estonians, etc., just couldn't stand the Russians.
"We received a lengthy letter from Dominion's defamation lawyers explaining why they believe that their client has been the victim of defamatory statements. Having considered the full import of the letter, we have agreed to their request that we publish the following statement:
American Thinker and contributors Andrea Widburg, R.D. Wedge, Brian Tomlinson, and Peggy Ryan have published pieces on www.AmericanThinker.com that falsely accuse US Dominion Inc., Dominion Voting Systems, Inc., and Dominion Voting Systems Corporation (collectively “Dominion”) of conspiring to steal the November 2020 election from Donald Trump. These pieces rely on discredited sources who have peddled debunked theories about Dominion’s supposed ties to Venezuela, fraud on Dominion’s machines that resulted in massive vote switching or weighted votes, and other claims falsely stating that there is credible evidence that Dominion acted fraudulently.
These statements are completely false and have no basis in fact. Industry experts and public officials alike have confirmed that Dominion conducted itself appropriately and that there is simply no evidence to support these claims.
It was wrong for us to publish these false statements. We apologize to Dominion for all of the harm this caused them and their employees. We also apologize to our readers for abandoning 9 journalistic principles and misrepresenting Dominion’s track record and its limited role in tabulating votes for the November 2020 election. We regret this grave error. " https://www.americanthinker.com/
And this - no kidnap evidence- https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/01/15/doj-official-no-direct-evidence-of-plot-to-kidnap-kill-lawmakers-in-capitol-riot/#
No one who is complaining about the fraud is confused about what it would take to run fair elections. We have an entire laundry list, and it includes everything Canada is doing and more. Our problem is not that we wouldn't know how to fix it if we had the opportunity, our problem is that Democrat corruption and infiltration has made it utterly impossible.
I think the left is getting played by corporate media. Corporate media says, "Let us have the power to determine who can communicate and what they can communicate, and we'll use that power to punish Trump (after we're sure that he has no remaining power to harm us)." And the left replies, "Oh yeah! Corporate power over communications is not a problem because it is turned against Trump." But when Twitter or Facebook says, "No posts on wealth taxes," the left will be "Wha?? I thought they were our friends."
Who would do such a thing? - https://legalinsurrection.com/2021/01/retired-chicago-firefighter-falsely-accused-of-murder-at-capitol-riot-by-social-media-trolls/ democrat trolls? oh now wait a minute!

VivaBarnes talked about that suit, their opinion was that Powell screwed up royally and that her best bet was a transfer of venue and even then she would be in trouble. The best they could say was that perhaps she was a victim of disinformation.

Kurt Schlichter said the same. Said he ran a similar op and made sure his troops had cots, and that at worst they should have sleeping bags and pads. It isn't like DC lacks for visitor facilities.
chuck, I listened to V&B re that too. Seemed like they focused on the more grandiose accusations and ownership, not the core things like adjudication issues, bizarre vote switching issues in data streams.
@Rhhardin "It's called the pathetic fallacy in lit crit. Narratives usually feature the interaction of two of agent, act, purpose, agency and scene, Kenneth Burke's dramatistic pentad."
I get the mention of the concept of the pathetic fallacy part of your comment but have no idea how the Kenneth Burke reference applies.
Seemed like they [VB] focused on the more grandiose accusations and ownership
And rightly so. They went down the list of things she got wrong, it was like: Powell alleges blah, blah, blah -- false. It doesn't matter if she got some things right, a complaint like that can't make accusations that are easily proved wrong. VB essentially said she was not competent in that part of the law and would have been better served to have let more experienced people handle it. And I agree. The most embarrassing professional failure I have experienced was due to taking on a task for which I didn't have the background. Pride before the fall and all that. At least I wasn't sued for billions of dollars.
Because Trumpkins aren’t sincere. I made several suggestions, and pointed out how Canada does it. A bunch of Trumpkins,
You continue to come here and spill crap all over. Ron Desantis had a state that was the poster child for election chaos in 2000. Florida had zero issues with the 2020 election. The problem is the corrupt politicians who like chaos. Now, it should be harder to steal 555 elections in 2022. The entire House plus 20 Democrat Senators are up for election.
It has nothing to do with Trump aside from the haters.
I get the mention of the concept of the pathetic fallacy part of your comment but have no idea how the Kenneth Burke reference applies.
One of the pentad is scene. Pick one of the four others and play it off against scene, and you have four narrative possibilities, all involving the scene.
The link I’m posting below, if true and accurate, explains why we’re not seeing any official statements or MSM coverage of who shot Ashli Babbitt. It’s because no matter what explanations they try to offer, if a police officer says he wants to shoot or kill a Trump supporter and does so, doesn’t matter if he says “I feared for my life.” That statement has to be proved, and the video is proof positive that a reasonable man wouldn’t think so. His Facebook statements make the death of Ashli Babbitt premeditated murder. On Federal grounds prosecuted by federal attorneys in federal court. Complete with death sentence possibility
That brings up another personal bugaboo of mine that many others share. Immigrants, even after naturalization, should not be law enforcement officers. Period.

Maybe Slow Joe can negotiate a "status of Forces" agreement to keep a certain amount of troops encircled around the Capitol, and this time not fuck it up like he did in Iraq.
I’m going to add this. Any supervisor who was a Facebook friend is guilty of dereliction of duty for not taking action to remove him. A crime only in the military under the UCMJ, but a firing offense in every uniformed organization. And a case can be made that every Capitol District Police Department employee who was Facebook friends with him is guilty of conspiracy.
Chuck, that poll was from today and nobody other than rasmussen is still doing them so your line about it being an old outlier is typical chuck BS.
And please expand on what you had in mind with your comment about impeachment. If you understand what impeachment is, then you know it is not relevant to this discussion.

So It Sort Of Looks Like The MyPillow Guy Might Be Trying To Get Trump To Stage One Last Coup Attempt

@MyPillowUSA CEO Michael Lindell shows off his notes before going into the West Wing at the White House on Friday.
"...It has all the makings of a bona fide, old-school, it-can’t-happen-here power grab, the stuff of nightmares. And it’s being orchestrated by … an infomercial salesman. Who, on his way into the Oval Office to meet with the president of the United States, inadvertently made his notes visible to photographers.
The MyPillow coup is the perfect ending to Trump’s presidency in that it’s deeply sinister and completely absurd all at once. It’s of a piece with everything that’s happened since Election Day. You worry, then you feel embarrassed for worrying, then you remember that he could be capable of anything. Could the president conspire with a guy who sells pillows for a living to end the United States as we know it? No! Well … maybe. I mean, no, of course not! But it would be destabilizing if they even tried, and they could try…"
Only at the bottom of the article does AlahPundit reveal that:
'...After meeting with Trump, Lindell said he was ushered upstairs to share details of election fraud with White House lawyers…
The lawyers said they had looked into the claims, Lindell said, and described them as “very dismissive.”'
"Went walking and the streets are bone-dry here in Montana. So weird.

You should take a writers class and work on a novel.
Period.
The linked article identifies the shooter by a particular beaded bracelet on his wrist. Same design beaded bracelet on previous photos of that officer. Seems kinda legit, unless these beaded bracelets are common, or photos are doctored. Link also claims this officer has Facebook posts expressing violent intent toward Trump supporters, but provides no link.
A search of the officers name brings up 'FactCheck' which attacks the source of the info-a definite right winger- as proof that the identity is false.
Apparently this info has been out for several days with no denial by the officer, or any official source.
The video of the killing and the earlier photos do ,indeed, show the same bracelet.
** IMO the officer was undertrained. If he was from the third world he may have some cultural experiences that reside as a bias. More training needed then. Tragic event. But I'm going to give the officer a pass.
Police departments across the country need better training budgets. And useful training. Most of the training police go through is just utter BS and doesn't help them in their job.
Everyone knows that Clinton was a sex predator, everyone knows Hunter is a coked up extortionist, everyone knows Polosi had family mob money, everyone knows Harry Reid and Biden enriched their families on tax money. Everyone knows that Teddy Kennedy was complicit in manslaughter, I guess that unless you say it into a mirror three times it has no physical effect. But Trump is a metaphysical example of the dephts of crime, because we would like to think so.
It's a nice night for a bit of Scotch. I'm a couple weeks from my complete 'RonaVax set of shots and move to Miami tax residence, followed after a bit of work to set up shop in St. Kitt's & Nevis.
Sorry about America. I'm past draftable age, and not in the mood to spend a couple years in the trenches.
In Norway, they stopped coronavirus vaccines on old people because the vaccines killed the old people at the same rate as actual coronavirus did.
That means that, if you think of the awful side effects that do not kill those who are not old, the coronavirus vaccines used in Norway ---- granted not a country full of intelligent and informed people, but still a modern country ---- such side effects are as likely or not as prevalent after a vaccine as they are after getting the coronavirus.
And Norway is a very liberal, pro-Bill Gates country. It took courage for the government to stop vaccinating (and killing) old people with the vaccine.
Clancy hated the ending which was made into a chase scene with a speedboat hitting a reef in Chesapeake Bay that does not exist.
I agree with Clancy. I thought Patriot Games was a decent film until the third act when they ditched Jack Ryan for Indiana Jones. The whole appeal of Ryan is that he's more of a cerebral, analytical guy than a kickass action star. The boat chase looked even more tired and lame compared to the earlier scene that depicted the raid on the village via satellite imagery.
Although I preferred Baldin's Ryan to Ford's, Clear and Present Danger is still my favorite film in the franchise. My father, though, thinks any choice other than Hunt For Red October is insane.
Don't let anyone you love get this vaccine. If the Norwegians who banned its use on old people today are right, it is no better for the vaccinated person than getting the actual disease.
And of course the effects of the vaccine could be worse than the virus itself. I get vaccines all the time, but this one is different. No real testing, no long-term follow-ups, possible permanent deleterious effects on fertility, and on top of all that, most public health officers say you shouldn't even stop wearing a mask after you take it.
Although I preferred Baldin's Ryan to Ford's, Clear and Present Danger is still my favorite film in the franchise. My father, though, thinks any choice other than Hunt For Red October is insane.

Do you have a source for this? The coverage I read earlier was that there had been 23 deaths among the elderly (>80) that were being investigated for possible adverse reactions. That is out of more than 30,000 people who have been vaccinated. In any event, here is the press release from the Norwegian Medicine Agency.
p.s. What was with that knock on Norwegian intelligence? ;)
I mentioned historical fictioneer Frank Yerby yesterday. I knew he was African-American but was surprised to find that he didn't die until the 1990s-- I thought he was a generation older.
Some may find this too pat, but everyone in the barbershop yesterday was agreed that the official narrative being spun up and reeled out oh-so-slowly is a complete con; made me suspect some of them might hang around here.
I guess Farmer is back (never left?). That's good; I would miss his commentary and many of the responses.

Roald Amundsen Edvard Munch Henrik Ibsen Edvard Grieg Thor Heyerdahl Fridtjof Nansen Sigrid Undset Trygve Lie...
Yeah, we've argued about it for years. It's a timing thing. I was only 9 when my father showed me Hunt for Red October, and I was already weary about submarine movies because he had earlier shown me Das Boot, and I hated it. No offense to Wolfgang Peterson, but a 2+ hour film in German is not a 9-yearold's idea of a good time.
Still, I prefer Clear and Present Dangers wider landscape, and two scenes especially put it over the top for me: the ambush on the motorcade and the laser-guided bombing of the cartel meeting.
Steinar Madsen, of the Norwegian Health Agency. (google his name, there are January 14 articles in Norwegian and English). non-frail old people are still allowed to take the risk, if a doctor assesses them and approves. over 80, there are very few non-frail old people, even in Norway. To be clear, that is not a "complete stop" on vaccinating old people, but if you look at the death rates ---- projected from a coronavirus diagnosis, projected from a coronavirus shot ---- no doctor in Norway, is going to allow someone over 80 to get the shot unless they are exceptionally healthy, at least until the guidance changes.
Sigrid Undset was the greatest novelist of the 20th century, and with the exception of Ibsen, each of the people in that list were great geniuses at what they did.
Frank Yerby is forgotten but I got into trouble at age 10 for asking to take out his novel "Foxes of Harrow." The librarian called my mother.
Right now, my novel reading is by a guy name Andrew Wareham, an English writer. He has a series on WI airplanes that sends me to Wikipedia looking up details. He also has a long series of novels on the Industrial Revolution in England. He taught Economic History for ten years.
Present danger was an illustration of life iimating art a small squad of deltas backedby the company took out pablo escobar like the kingpin in the film
Trying to think this out. Talk about certain aspects of the election is bad. Everyone agrees on that. Don't bring up issues of legitimacy by talking about certain aspects. Ok, it's a way to do things. But here's my problem. Has kicking Trump off social media, and surrounding the Capitol with barbed wire, and bringing in 20,000 soldiers, and declaring a curfew and closing off streets, and planning a hidden, virtual, secret, 20-minute-long inauguration surrounded by soldiers with orders to shoot to kill and closing state capitals - has that all silenced Trump? Or is all that fairly shouting out "nation divided over election", not Biden's message about unity? What pictures will be in the history books forever? Does Biden have some bad advisors?
"Twenty-three people died in Norway within days of receiving their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, with 13 of those deaths — all nursing home patients — apparently related to the side effects of the shots, health officials said."
"All 13 were nursing home patients and at least 80 years old. While officials aren’t expressing serious concern, they are adjusting their guidance on who should receive the vaccine.
The news comes just over a week after officials reported the deaths of just two nursing home residents after they received the Pfizer jab.
More than 30,000 people in Norway have received the first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna coronavirus vaccine in the Scandinavian country since late last month, according to official figures.
“We are not alarmed by [the 13 deaths],” Steinar Madsen, medical director with the agency, told Norwegian broadcaster NRK. “It is quite clear that these vaccines have very little risk, with a small exception for the frailest patients.”
“Doctors must now carefully consider who should be vaccinated,” he added. “Those who are very frail and at the very end of life can be vaccinated after an individual assessment.”
So....cooper has engaged in unwarranted extrapolations. If the Pfizer vaccine is so unsafe, we should be seeing a sharp rise in deaths among elderly Americans who have received it.
And the point is not - will it kill me if I am 60 ---- the point is, if it kills people who are 85 at the same rate as the coronavirus itself does (an unexpected result, but that is what science is about - observing unexpected results), then it (the vaccine) may (note, I say may) have similar negative effects in younger cohorts as the coronavirus itself.
In other words, if the Norwegian numbers hold up, the vaccines we are now using will basically do no more than get us to herd immunity faster but with just as much morbidity and side effects as the disease itself.
I guess Farmer is back (never left?). That's good; I would miss his commentary and many of the responses.
Thanks for the kind words, but I'll be on hiatus. The comment thread as news aggregator isn't my particular cup of tea. I don't really have a side in the fight, so it's a bit like being in the middle of the Hatfield's and McCoy's. And I am not someone who gets particularly worked up over the day's headlines. I'm ready to turn the page on the Trump era and see what horrors await us next.
SO .... if the Norwegian numbers are not an anomaly (and the Norwegian health authorities took the numbers very seriously), then you, as an individual, are taking the exact same risks by getting the vaccine as you would if you just French kissed someone who was shedding the viruses at a sufficient rate to ensure you would get infected (absent a presence of antibodies in your body).
True, you may think you are "getting it over with" by taking the vaccine, but there is another twist. What if later this year you get a mutation which the vaccine does not cover? Then your entire risk (against the non-mutated vaccine) did you no good at all. It is not undisputed that the current vaccines cover the current rare mutations, and there is no way any scientist can claim that future mutations will be covered. That is not how science has ever worked (and that is why, historically, flu vaccines are much less than 90 percent effective in most flu seasons).
the point is, if it kills people who are 85 at the same rate as the coronavirus itself does (an unexpected result, but that is what science is about - observing unexpected results)
This was the claim I was asking for a source to. I'm not saying you're wrong only that I had not seen that particular piece of information.
I am reminded of the Progressive Insurance commercial with the expert on preventing people from turning out like their parents.
"You know who else reads books about submarines?"
[Hesitant, embarrassed response] "My dad."
My dad loved Tom Clancy's books. I didn't read the books and wasn't that crazy about the movies, though "The Hunt for Red October" was pretty good.
"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," which Clancy wasn't responsible for, was abysmal. If Putin was looking for reasons to hate us, that movie would have been enough.
Fourteen million Modera doses shipped, fifteen million Pfizer doses shipped - but only 12.3 million arm sticks. Trump's "Operation Warp Speed" was, like most of his daydreams, a massive failure.
JFarmer - Alex Berenson linked the raw numbers on his Twitter feed. He is not the most reliable guy, but he usually retracts his statements pretty quickly if he is obviously incorrect, and he has not retracted those statements yet.
Of course it is possible that, Norwegians being Norwegians, they jabbed the very sickest of the old people first. Which could explain the anomaly.
What will happen is that the Democrats will go into what they think is their safe area for the inauguration - behind protective barbed wire snd defensive troops, and then in a switch find themselves captured! Well, it would be good for a comedy movie. 😃
Mountain Man No. I assume the Democrats, the party, do NOT want to fix things so you need a strategy to appeal past them that will embarrass them if they reject it. And that strategy is “be like Canada”. That strategy seems well with Democrat voters. Make the appeal to the voters and force the Democrat party to confront it. It might not work, but it’s more likely to work than anything Big Mike suggests.

Near the beginning of this 25 minute video by igpcolorado there is a movie of the
transformations that Colorado has gone through since the Cambrian. This is unusual,
or at least I'm not finding many examples of such a detailed history of transformation
on YouTube. After writing that I realized that over half a million people have viewed
this, which is astonishingly high number for anything to do with geology.
So clearly I'm not the only person to think there is something special about it.

Biden's long dark winter may last for 2 years or 4 years, but there's always hope.
What I have not seen are toppled statues, attempts at arson, or evidence that the true malcontents among the crowd were capable of leadership or even finding their way to their
targets.

Another leftist agent provocateur identified in the Capitol riot.
Dreary and inexorable sunrise.
Doc Mike thinks it's a good look for Trump supporters that they were incited by a couple (alleged) Goofy leftist Agent Prevaricators.
I agree it's very possible because you people are highly suggestible.

Klingon seems OK
The Klingon language does not discriminate between "he" or "she" so it would be a good basis for a new White House language breaking with BadPast. Of course, Klingon does not discriminate between "it," meaning animate and "it," meaning inanimate; but is this a bug or a feature in a Biden* White House?

Jeez, could Jack Dorsey look any more like a Castro relative than he does in the recent Project Veritas video?

03) Anything about the murder of Ashli Babbitt
04) Details about the 3 who died of "Medical emergencies"
05) Dollar amount of property damage.
06) Number of protesters hospitalized and/or injured by the police
07) Identity of the policeman who killed Ashli babbitt
08) Number of Peaceful Trump supporters who were NOT in the capital building
I've found some of this information, but only by hunting for it on the internet.
Imagine a president so popular with the people that he needs 25,000 combat troops to protect his inauguration.

There's something strange about how we can identify our emotional states with the external environment
It's called the pathetic fallacy in lit crit. Narratives usually feature the interaction of two of agent, act, purpose, agency and scene, Kenneth Burke's dramatistic pentad.

Believe in science : looks like center-right people have dead zone in left brain??!!
but they can see and chase shiny objects.

Well, damn. I deleted my comment in order to edit it and then inadvertently removed it from my clipboard before I could repost it.

Case-in-point: Kyle Rittenhouse flashes white-power sign at bar while out on bond

Mrs. Heracles, when she learns from a friend of her husband's that Heracles is returning after a year or more away, at great risk.
By Zeus, do not cheat me of the truth! Speak,
and you will find that I am not a spiteful woman
nor one who does not know how it is with man --
we cannot always enjoy a constant happiness.
How foolish one would be to climb into the ring
with Love and try to trade blows with him, like a boxer.
For he rules even the Gods as he pleases, and
he rules me -- why not another woman like me?
You see that I would be altogether mad
to blame my husband, because he suffers from this sickness,
or that woman. She has been guilty of nothing shameful,
and she has done no harm to me. No, it is inconceivable.
If you have learned to lie from him,
then you are not learning honest lessons.....
Are you afraid of hurting me? You are wrong.
The only hurt would be not to know.
Where is the danger in knowing? One man and many women --
Heracles has had other women before.
Never yet has one earned insults
from me, or spiteful talk, nor will she, even
if she is absorbed in her passion.
for I pitied her deeply when I saw her because
her own beauty has destroyed her life, and, against her will,
this unfortunate girl has sacked and enslaved the land
of her fathers. Now let all this flow away
on the wind. To you I have this to say: You may be dishonest
with others, but never lie to me.
Dear friends, while our visitor is in the house,
talking to the captured girls before he leaves, I
have come out to you, unobserved. I want
to tell you the work my hands have done, but also to have
your sympathy as I cry out for all I suffer.
For I have taken on a girl -- no,
I can think that no longer -- a married woman, as
a ship's master takes on cargo, goods that outrage my heart.
So now the two of us lie under the one sheet,
waiting for his embrace. This is the gift my brave
and faithful Heracles sends home to his dear wife
to compensate for his long absence!

Ken B:

I’m going to add this. Any supervisor who was a Facebook friend is guilty of dereliction of duty for not taking action to remove him. So It Sort Of Looks Like The MyPillow Guy Might Be Trying To Get Trump To Stage One Last Coup Attempt
@jabinbotsford
@MyPillowUSA
CEO Michael Lindell shows off his notes before going into the West Wing at the White House on Friday.
He added, “They have their own agenda.”

I'm a couple weeks from my complete 'RonaVax set of shots and move to Miami tax residence, followed after a bit of work to set up shop in St. Kitt's & Nevis.
Sorry about America. I'm past draftable age, and not in the mood to spend a couple years in the trenches.
Here's a toast. It was a good run, US of A.
Well how about this

MAGA Mobster? Could the coverage be any more slanted?
Slanted implies a graduated incline as opposed to a shear cliff into the abyss.
My friends, please understand this.
Trust people who show courage.
@Michael K:
How's that former Kasich staffer, Weaver doing?
Did you know Kasich's Dad was a postal worker?
Maybe he'll wind up on a list.
Re the Capitol Police officer who purportedly shot Babbitt:
* the original link says the officer "murdered" Babbitt---something he has not been charged with.
* the original link says the guy was Scalise's bodygaard the day he was shot, and blames him for not protecting him.
But a pic shows Trump putting a medal around the guy's neck, for his meritorious service that day. Why is that?
* the original link says the guy was only a Phys. Ed. major---when many, many cops in America are high school graduates.
The question is: did the guy get police training?
* the original link claims that no naturalized immigrant should be allowed to serve in law enforcement.
Why the hell not, IF he/she has the right qualifications?
* the original link says the guy made threats against Trump supporters.
Did he? There's no evidence posted to that effect.
Strikes me, that the original link is long on assertions, and waaay short of anything to back them up.

@Wholelottaspainin'
It was written by a journalist, what do you expect?
None of them are still alive.
To be fair, all I know about Lie is by reputation, I am not an algebraist. But people I trust tell me he was a genius.
Still, I prefer Clear and Present Dangers wider landscape,
Yes, the movie was well done.
They never made a movie of my favorite novel, "Without Remorse."

*******************
I think this is the source you saw, posted today:
https://nypost.com/2021/01/15/23-die-in-norway-after-receiving-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine/
Have we?
Well I’m not 80. So I’ll be ok I think.
The patients over 80 were in nursing homes...perhaps nursing home patients are likely to die from any cause. Shocking.
Strikes me, that the original link is long on assertions, and waaay short of anything to back them up.
Time will tell, or maybe not. Libel laws still exist.
My source was NOT the New York Post.
Please do not be innumerate.
The vaccine was not tested on older people.
The current roll-out is the test.
@Narr:
Yes that would have been taken 20 years early it might have required a frankenheiner
SO .... if the Norwegian numbers are not an anomaly (and the Norwegian health authorities took the numbers very seriously), then you, as an individual, are taking the exact same risks by getting the vaccine as you would if you just French kissed someone who was shedding the viruses at a sufficient rate to ensure you would get infected (absent a presence of antibodies in your body).
@stephen cooper:
the point is, if it kills people who are 85 at the same rate as the coronavirus itself does (an unexpected result, but that is what science is about - observing unexpected results)
Come to think of it, wasn't Rose Nylund, Betty White's dingbat character on Golden Girls, supposed to be Norwegian?
Pretty wild that her previous role had been as Sue Ann Nivens, the sexpot "Happy Homemaker" of WJM on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Fourteen million Modera doses shipped, fifteen million Pfizer doses shipped - but only 12.3 million arm sticks. Trump's "Operation Warp Speed" was, like most of his daydreams, a massive failure.

No.

Isn't Trump's fault that WI Governor Evers is a Democrat.
Another problem facing providers is they can’t give the vaccine to anyone. Only first responders and nursing home residents and staff are currently eligible.
Some providers say they have more doses than people who are on the eligibility list and want the vaccine, according to Rep. Joe Sanfelippo, Assembly Health Committee Chairman. Those providers cannot simply start giving the extra vaccine doses to people lower on the priority list, because DHS is still trying to figure out who should be on that list.
DHS gave the job of creating an eligibility list to its 12-member State Disaster Medical Advisory Committee (SDMAC), which in turn handed it over to its 17-member vaccine subcommittee.
DHS started talking about creating the subcommittee in early October when it first faced up to the possibility that “DHS will have responsibility for developing an effective and equitable strategy for distributing vaccine to Wisconsin residents.”
The first several weeks were spent selecting members, developing a framework for equitable distribution, and taking public comment. On December 10th, it settled on what groups of people should get the vaccine first, during “Phase 1A.” That list includes first responders and nursing home staff and residents. That was just in the nick of time. The FDA approved emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine on Dec. 11th. The first vaccines were administered in Wisconsin on Dec. 14th. Moderna’s vaccine was approved on Dec. 18th.
The vaccine subcommittee then got to work on the eligibility list for “Phase 1B.” It completed a preliminary list ready for public comment on Jan. 12th. It includes everyone over the age of 70, state prison inmates, and workers in the mink fur industry. That same day, the federal government told states to open up vaccinations to everyone over the age of 65.
California is 2nd to last despite having a stockpile. Massive bureacracy, locations operating 1 day a week, "equity" factors.
I'm sure it's figuring into Newsom recall efforts.
