Today's most ironic news. A Back the Blue rally in Denver was attacked by Antifa. That's not news. Antifa is a bunch of fascists.

The news is the Denver police stood down and allowed the attack to continue.

If the police are not willing to protect a rally backing them! I ask again. Why not defund the police? What good are they?

Updated Spreadsheets- the state level data now has graphs for 7 day moving averages of new cases and new deaths that overlay the tables.

US Data
Individual State Data

In summary, it appears that new cases may have peaked in this wave. State after state at the individual level seem to either be at a plateau of new cases, or actually on the downswing. Still need at least 3 more days of data to be sure, but seeing it in so many states at the same time, even with testing still increasing in most of them, does suggest the peak has been reached.

Also, new deaths might be nearing a peak, too. But again, really do need the rest of this week's data to be sure- California basically took the weekend off on counting deaths, so expect a big number from them tomorrow- like around 2-3 hundred.

We sold our large-ish house and have moved into a <900 sq ft rental while our new place is built. Most of our stuff is in storage. We overestimated, by a goodly amount, what would fit in the rental. Suffice to say we will not be buying anything other than food and drink for the foreseeable future. Trust me when I tell you that when we return to Amazon consuming it will be through the Althouse portal.

Were the Back to School wars resolved today? Last I knew the hyperventilating were winning because, "We're all going to die and you can't make us!!!", to 11. The young folks I know, family, friends, and co-workers, are all but saying, "If you as a teacher don't feel it is safe to return to school then retire. We can't go on like this any longer. You are not at risk. You are harming our children.".

Groot Supports This?

In seems democratic politicians across Chicago support racism and violence against women. Alder-assholes like Byron Sigcho-Lopez (25th), Jeanette Taylor (20th), Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez (33rd), Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th). They called these protests peaceful, necessary and just.

This is from an officer who was at Groot's Logan Square home Saturday night:

So my team was used to rotate out other officers on the front line of the protest. Why? To protect the mental health of the front line officers. The original group I personally observed the group of Black Lives Matter protesters hurl vile insults at the officers. One of the officers was a black man, he took the worst of the insults since, in the eyes of the protesters, he was a “sell out”, “uncle tom”, “coon”, etc, etc, etc. So my team rotated in to take the verbal abuse. In time I noted an officer, not from my team start to engage the insults by responding. I personally pulled this officer off the line and took his spot.

Here’s what came my way in brief, I was called a “white shirt” (supervisor), this is factually correct. They then verbally attacked the officer next to me, who was Latino, about how could he obey a “cracker ass cop”, they questioned that officers manhood. They then (and it was obvious to me these were professional agitators) turned to me. I was called “old”, “killer”, “fat ass” (the gent who threw that my way had me by a good 50 lbs), finally the one agitator made this statement to his people “you know what this world needs? I do. I’m going to go to this white shirts house and rape his daughter! I’m going to darken up his bloodline!”

Were the "protestors" shocked?

There were cheers from the crowd at this statement... that someone wanted to commit a rape...
The rape of a child - cheered by democrats. And as bad as that is, it got worse:
They then started grabbing officers names and badge numbers and using the internet to grab personal information about the officers, disciplinary history, time on job, salary, and other personal information. They then used their bull horns to broadcast our personal info to the crowd.

So... when you (non police friends) hear about the “peaceful protesters” who are picked on... this is one group from Black Lives Matter.

To even more cheers from scumbags.

Cops who were ordered to protect a mayor (who hates their guts) and required to identify themselves (by law) had to listen to scumbags threaten to rape their daughters, and via the magic of the internet, hear their home addresses broadcast to more scumbags (who know you aren't able to defend your homes and families because you're on the clock in Groot-ville.)

And what do we hear from the politicians? That this is peaceful? That police are racist? That all that a civilized people hold dear is in danger simply because these miserable fuckers can't get their way by anything but violence?

Off topic, but Google has possibly decided to discriminate against this blog in the search results.

I typed in Ann Althouse, as I usually do trying to get here, and this blog was nowhere in the top five results (I did not scroll down, maybe it was the sixth result). So I typed in "Ann Althouse blog", and once again, nothing in the top 5 results. Finally, I typed in "Althouse blog today", and it was in the top 5 results.

you must have said something to get the monopolists mad at you, Ann.

Anyway, to change the subject a little, I realized today, on one of those spare moments where we reflect on how we spend our time, that I have probably spent, since 1999, when I first started "surfing" the "blogosphere" (that sounds awful, I know, but really it was no worse than sitting down at breakfast with the lousy newspapers of my youth) --- I realized today that, if I have spent an average of 20 minutes a day reading or participating in comment sections since 1998, well, that was an awful lot of time. If I sat down right now to repeat all those hours reading comment sections, I would not be finished before Thanksgiving.

So, I thought to myself, what have I learned?
Well, I learned a lot about Bob Dylan and the negative aspects of men wearing shorts too often, on this site, and lots of similar but not at all similar things on other sites, but seriously ---

so many times a commenter has said something PROUD or LUSTFUL or ENVIOUS or SNIDE or SMUG or CLUELESS and none of that ever bothered me much.

I mean, proud people are sort of comical, envious people are what they are, and the snide and smug or clueless are to the worldwide web what Gilligans Island reruns were to the syndicated TV networks of my youth ---- merely an entertainment or a moral tale (one hoped, anyway - it would really suck if people were in their heart of hearts as proud and envious and snide and smug as they so often appeared to be).

But in those thousands of hours I have learned something.

There are all sorts of bad people in the world, and I have no right to say that one sort of bad loser person is worse than another (and trust me, I spend an awful lot of time praying for the repentance of all sorts of losers).

But here is something I would not have known if I had not wasted all those precious hours reading comment sections.

If you are someone who mocks the sufferings of others - no matter your justification ---- you worry me a lot.
There is nothing wrong with wanting the side that promotes evil to lose a war between good and evil, I am not talking about rejoicing in the triumph of the truth (MAGNA EST VERITAS ET PRAEVALEBIT).

I am talking about this - there are people in the world who feel contempt for those who have suffered, who mock them for "whining" if they mention the fact that they have suffered, and who assume they - the mockers - are on God's side, for whatever reason.

I have seen the faces of angels as they looked at God, and I have seen the faces of great sinners as they realize that they need to repent ---- trust me or not ---- and not much shakes me up. Trust me, I have seen very intense things.

that being said ....

If it were not for the internet, I would not know that there is a class of people who like to mock people who decide not to be quiet about the fact that they have suffered in this world.
Whatever their justifications might be, those mockers have, I hope, no idea of how uniquely unpleasant they are.
My best guess is they will repent without ever having known how unpleasant they were ---- that is how repentance works. I hope I am right about that.

Oh well, God loves us all. I know I am right about that.

Now, if you were to argue that since we've already lost 120 million to COVID, like fuckin' Joe "Cunny" Biden argued, that I might find some humor in, as indeed the cases per million could peak if we are indeed down to a mere 210 million people in the US.

The rioters are rioting. The National Guard knows how to shoot to kill. A few volleys and the riots are over. No need to arrest anyone. Just clean up the bodies afterward. Any survivors take to to a hospital and inform them they're responsible for their bills.

The Portland violence is manufactured, in cooperation with the local and state governments. They created it and nurture it. Same case in many other cities.

The police in Seattle and Denver aren't "standing by," they're standing down on orders from mayors. The police follow orders from elected officials and to change their behavior we need to change those being elected. These days voting for a Democrat is voting to have the police stand down while the the center of your community - whether that is the area near the the courthouse (city) or a mall (suburb) - is destroyed by a small group which could easily be dispersed by the regular police. The problem at present is that in Dem cities people keep waiting for the police to come (which was formerly the mark of a citizen) and the mayors keep telling the police not to go (which is the mark of the hard left). Voting for the Hard Dems is voting for The Burning. And is The Burning, in some rough way, righting injustices? Hundreds upon hundreds of blacks have been shot, their businesses have been burned and looted, the schools are closed so their children are not being educated, their community areas are now being unpoliced and avoided, and the leaders of The Burning are shamelessly calling for segregation. This is not justice; it is the path away from it.

There is passive ignorance and active ignorance. Above is an example of active ignorance. Steve has to know the answer yet ignores it. Trump sent in a team that can identify and arrest the leaders of the riots on federal crimes. As someone else pointed out, all the Guard can do is shoot them, which is what the OR leaders want.

The leaders, by the way, are almost all white and have no interest in Floyd other than as a symbol like Horst Wessel.

We are talking about an viral illness, not death as a whole. The measure here is how likely you are to die if you catch COVID in different countries. Sure, the testing regimes are different even across the same US state, but this is the only data you have. Per capita in this case is essentially meaningless. But, sure if you want to use it go ahead- it means the governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois, Connecticut, and Maryland screwed the pooch.

GoC - remember, God is ALWAYS the winner ---- it DOES NOT MATTER what those who oppose him can stand or cannot stand. God never gives up on love for His creatures, and as such, the cranky opinions of his opponents are no more important than the vanishing memories we have of misunderstood insults ......

Look at it this way. Either they (those who, for the moment, oppose God) realize it is better to be a friend to our CREATOR than it is not to be a friend, or they don't. That is an exercise of their free will which, to tell the truth, does not lend itself to interesting commentary from those of us who, well, are not in charge of their destiny. NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE PRAY FOR EVILDOERS! - trust me on that.

(I could pretend to have interesting things to say on the subject ---- or even worse, I could pretend not to have interesting things to say on the subject, even if I did ----- but I cannot help but be honest......)

Here is my honest take. God communicates with all of God's creatures, without always letting the rest of us know the substance of those communications (cor ad cor loquitur) and, while it is possible that someone like me has something interesting to say about any or all of those communications ---- I mean, it is possible, because after all, I have seen some of the worst creatures who ever existed in the moment they transitioned to remembering that God loves them and I have seen the look on their faces, in that moment, when they joined the troops of Heaven ----- trust me, it is very possible I have witnessed more than one of those moments .... and (for all you know) it is possible that I have not. (I have, and from my point of view, it is not possible that I have not, but from your point of view, it is possible). God loves us all, and if I tell you that I have good reason to think that God loves you much much more than you can imagine, well, that is ONE THING I HAVE SAID THAT YOU HAVE TO KNOW IS TRUE.

Don't worry too much about God's enemies, unless you want to. Tougher creatures than me have taken care of that already. Worry about those things you can make better. Find a good woman, marry her, have babies. Unless for some reason that is not a good idea. If that is not a good idea, find someone who needs you and be that friend they need.

Mr. Forward ---- I "had" a guardian angel. A long time ago.
All of us are special, all in a unique way. I don't know who you are, but I am fairly certain God thinks you are more fascinating than I am, whether or not you, like me, used your free will to tell your guardian angel that it would be ok to leave and to be happy elsewhere. Remember what I just said - I cannot think of a better compliment to give to somebody than the compliment I just gave you. I am fairly certain God finds you more fascinating than me. But give me some credit anyway .....Anyway, trust me, if you spent as little as 10 minutes talking to me the way a friend talks to a friend, you would never ever again mock anyone who remotely reminded you of me.
And please remember this - it is no small thing to lose a guardian angel. But we live and learn, and I know this, and I might not have known it otherwise - it is also no small thing to be a friend to a creature who never had a friend in this world.

Cor ad cor loquitur.

stephen cooper said...

and trust me .... God loves everyone who argues with me in a feisty way.

Look we all know the word feisty is what it is ....
not a word that we can often use without pretentiousness ...

but trust me .... I have years of experience making God laugh with joy, and part of that experience is tempting people to argue with me in a 'feisty' way ....

like I said, I sent my guardian angel packing when I was a mere little child (This, I said, way back in '62, CANNOT BE what God wanted for me... and I was adamant about it, I was not going to continue on if things stayed on going the way they were going) and that may have been a poor choice, but I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO KNOW THAT NOBODY CAN BRING THEMSELVES TO HATE ME.

don't even try .... you have no idea how much we would laugh about it back in 1962 ...

and I might not have much but I have every Year I have ever lived through *every year being personified - trust me, I know how that works* living in the same apartment building I live in.

Not a day goes by that they don't think about me. Sometimes, when they have not seen me lately, they wonder, each and every one of those years (except '74 - me and '74 are inseparable pals): why haven't we seen Steve walking his dog lately, or they say to themselves:
we miss Steve, maybe someone else has seen him lately.

NOBODY HAS EVER LOVED ME, trust me on that - you see, it is no small thing not to even have a guardian angel ---- but on the other hand ----- NOBODY HAS EVER MADE A MISTAKE WHEN THEY THOUGHT, HEY, THIS GUY KNOWS THAT GOD IS HIS FRIEND ....

in other words, you can't go wrong if you hope for the best for me. AND TRUST ME I HOPE FOR THE BEST FOR YOU.

also, I am a lot tougher than I seem, so it is COMPLETELY SAFE to be on my side. I am too tough to let down anyone who has ever helped me out.

Now tell me again what you were saying when you thought it was a good idea to make fun of me, but this time, say it the way a friend talks to a friend. The best days are ahead for you, in part because I have always been praying for you. Just in part, but I did have something to do with the wonderful future ahead of you.

God loves you, my friend: you know that.
