"“I think that California can serve as a great example for the rest of this country,” Bloomberg told supporters at the opening of his Los Angeles campaign office.

Yes, there are problems, including homelessness, struggling public schools and scarce, costly housing. But California “is something the rest of the country looks up to,” Bloomberg said. “California has been a leader in an awful lot of things.”"

Hey, Althouse, is this "serious" enough for you? Does this count as "boring"? Or, if the substance of policy does matter, might California possibly not be a good model for the country?

Sometimes I, in the goodness of my heart, try to see every single one of the Althouse commenters the way God sees them - as amazing creatures who would never have existed if God (Jehovah), my good friend, had not put a lot of effort into the sort of thing people who create the sort of people who are Althouse commenters had put into that effort, back in the day (I remember - or I don't remember, that is not something that you need to concern yourself with).

Then sometimes I think, why bother saying those things that I think about in the goodness of my heart, nobody cares, I might as well just watch old clips of Don Rickles talking about the fact that people are stupid, and laugh, and thus waste away my days.

Then I think - hey, lots of people have said really nasty things about other people here ----- not about me, I don't care, but about others ---- verbum sapientis sufficit ---- and I wonder, maybe I should tell those people I have no pride at all, but there is still this ----- too too many people log onto the internet in order to say nasty things in order to indulge their narcissistic rage.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN, the near friendless liberal who considers her or himself a kind person says, WHAT DO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME I AM NOT ONE OF GOD'S CHOSEN BECAUSE YOU THINK OBAMA WAS A FRAUD?

and so on and so forth for the Trump supporters, although I like them more because nothing makes me sadder than knowing somebody might have encouraged someone else to have an abortion, and I like the Trump supporters more because, if you understand statistics, they have ALWAYS BEEN NICER TO THE UNBORN than the poor OBAMA supporters, yes the Trump supporters have always been, on average, kinder to those among us who are most in need of effectual empathy.

Trust me I know what I am talking about, God loves you so much more than you can imagine. Don't worry about whether there is goodness in my heart or not I have seen a few angels face to face and no they did not seem to be impressed with the goodness in my heart but still they were angels and that is not nothing.

Or go ahead and read Infinite Jest and wonder if you wasted your time. God did not create any of us to be atheist or agnostic FOR GOD'S SAKE God loves every single one of you more than me, trust me, and that is very important.

This is Day 1,082 of the Trump Presidency. Arguably, the first day of genuine crisis for the Trump Administration. The day that many of us wondered about as Trump purged his Secretary of Defense, a series of National Security Advisors, and with the number of senior offices in the Pentagon that are either vacant or occupied by unconfirmed “acting” officers hovering around 20.

Maybe they can get Sebastian Gorka back to lend a hand. Or perhaps Mike Flynn’s parole officer will let him work daylight hours for the White House.

I have quit Twitter. Indulging political Twitter is like cultivating a neurosis. Neuroses *sound* interesting, but you wouldn’t want to suffer one. I have also noticed that the less I comment on the internet, the less married I become to my opinions IRL. I just don’t care anymore. Nancy Pelosi, for example, is either senile and deluded, or is a vile liar. The press itself has gone full propaganda for the deep state. Now they are doing Iranian propaganda, suggesting that we should send out boys to die in a charade where Iraq pretends to be on our side, while she hosts and aids enemy generals. This is one more 100 watt kitchen light that Trump has switched on at 2 in the morning, and once again the cockroaches are scurrying.

I used to think that when the Germans were subjected to the constant barrage of anti Jewish propaganda, they probably rolled their eyes, but went along to get along. But I have been on the road for a couple of weeks, and seeing people up at six in the morning and tuning into CNN in hotel lobbies and pawing their cell phones for the latest anti Trump tropes has made me rethink that. Germans may well have waited with bated breath for the latest propaganda blast from the Nazis. Anyway, I am sick of it. Sick of the constant lies, sick of propaganda tools like Chuck.

I like my life better when I am not connected to internet politics.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: `Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear --
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

And Howard, I am not a believer, in the way you think.

God is my friend, that is not something that has anything to do with belief, that is simply a statement of fact.

That is why - because he is my friend - that is why I know that God loves you, and cares about you, whom he created, much more than God loves you.

You are a smart guy and maybe you know the answer to this ---- do you know what I need to know, living in this world and knowing that God created you all, with love in that divine heart, and here I am - not someone like you, but someone who has maybe seen much more evil than you can imagine, much more evil than you could in a million years live with ---- am I really a creature of God who does not know why I am in this world, having been created to live in a world without a single sign that God created me with love in his heart???? Or am I am just someone on the watchtower who cares so much more about human beings than you can imagine?

Tell me again about those long sad roads, which you walked with so many beloved friends, that led you yo atheism.

AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT GOD WATCHED OVER YOU EVERY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE.

So of course, my friend, God does not love me, the believer, because God knows that I care about every one I have ever met who never had a friend in this world: you have no idea how difficult it has been.

Well, if it makes you feel better, God does not know either. You were right. God does not like me all that much.

Too bad. That is my problem, and I know how to deal with it.

Iran is counting on restraint from the US, banking that it knows the limits to which it can push a power that can probably not conquer Iran, but can send it packing for the stone age pretty easily. Once Iran no longer has the threat of these missile attacks, it is a lesser power. They have threatened to flatten Haifa and Dubai if Trump retaliates, but I can’t see Trump not taking out the bases from which this missiles were launched.

This is the art produced during the era of American ascendancy in the art world. Not sure why it would be an either/or but I don't disagree either. I gave my daughter a challenge in which we each had to pick one thing that we thought was OK on the two main floors devoted to recent art. Both my picks were videos of dancers/performance artists. She struggled to find anything other than the most conventional looking painting on each floor. We are very different ages, each with an interest in the visual arts. That we we both struggled says something, but the place was packed, almost uncomfortably so. Not sure what other people are getting out of it.

It is a weird thing that an art form that has been so central to western culture has become so distanced from what could be reasonably called mainstream tastes.

He's unwatchable to me so I record his show and fast forward to the guests I want to see, if any, depending on the subject being covered. And I probably agree with him about 90% of the time.

Seriously, though, if you do not know that volitional abortion is always and everywhere evil, well then you are in a place where you really need to contemplate what is good in this world .... in a way you have not done .... and what is good is this ...
God loves us all, and God protects the innocent.

Trust me if you have the choice to tell God you were not on the side of the innocent (A BAD CHOICE) or if you have the choice to tell God you were on the side of the innocent (THE GOOD CHOICE) ---- you will always be right if you pray for the innocent. THE GOOD CHOICE IS TO PRAY FOR THE INNOCENT.

Well of course that means you can't vote for old Pelosi, you can't consider that poor man Bergoglio to be anything but an evil-doer, and you sort of have to withhold the respect you might otherwise have had for poor Harold Stern, but you can do it, God loves you, Inga, trust me, I remember your grandparents and how happy they were this time of year three generations ago.

This is such a dumb comment, that it barely merits any attention.

The only reason to say anything at all is because every day this blog's comments pages get filled up with fantasms from Trumpists, attributing all sorts of left-wing ideologies to me.

I've stated very plainly that I am a lifelong Republican. I ardently supported the nominations of Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, on these pages. I've written about my undying admiration for the late Justice Scalia, on these pages. I've fought with Althouse about the string of gay rights cases (Lawrence, Windsor and Obergefell, where I took the conservative justices' side. I've been an election day volunteer for the Republican National Lawyers Association. I've never written a single word of support for a single Democratic candidate for office on these pages. I'm a gun owner and a general supporter of gun rights under U.S. law. I have certainly never written anything supportive of any climate change fearmongering.

And you Trumpkin pricks cannot find a single comment from me that contradicts any of that.

Your one gripe with me is Trump, and my open hatred of Trump.

You are fucking desperate, to make me out to being a left-winger, because you cannot think of any other way to delegitimize me, in my criticism of Trump.
