President Trump’s defense against impeachment is bombastic, full of lies and incoherent to the point of lunacy, which is no surprise. Republicans are beclowning themselves to pretend Trump is making sense — and that, sadly, is also no surprise....

I've been wondering if Trump and Pelosi are actually more or less on the same page here - let's light this candle, get it done now (in Pelosi's case, before primary season) - because each one thinks it will benefit his/her side in 2020 to do it this way. I dunno. Trump is certainly waving a red cape a whole bunch right now. Whether he's doing it because he means to, to inflame the dumb passions of the bull, or just because he talks with his hands and happens to be holding a red cape - I also dunno.

There is a coven of liberal or "progressive"columnists at the WaPo and NYT who are good at flinging poo. Not terribly persuasive to most people, but they have an audience in the readers of their paper.
Out here in Los Angeles, this morning's Times had a front page article about the lonely and brave whistleblowers in our history. Again not terribly persuasive when you consider that the "lonely and brave" Whistleblower #1 is still hiding in the shadows. Another image comes to mind from an Italian drama--a fellow with a stiletto hiding behind a curtain. Will the curtain drop? Was the stiletto in the back effective? Time will tell.

Well said indeed. Pelosi has got to know this idiocy will be terrible for her party. Pelosi probably thinks that her party needs to get a beat down to get rid of the crazies and Trump is a one of kind to be replaced by a regular Republican. Trump, who knows what his long term thinking is. However this theatre of the absurd will win him re-election and he will regain both houses of Congress and with that he will be the most successful since Reagan Republican president and possibly exceed Reagan and thus the best Republican president for another generation, possibly even two generations. The Democrats weakend Reagan in his second term with Iran Contra, they are blowing it now by trying to weaken Trump now by trying to do a second Iran Contra blow during his first term. They should have quit with Mueller but instead have doubled down on stupid.
Eugene Robinson has been awful for a long, long time. Even when I was liberal I gave Robinson's columns a pass.

I gave up on the Washington Post when they cut words out of Sarah Palin’s statements to make them sound idiotic without eclipses. I complained to the ombudsman and she actually responded saying it was deplorable, but of course she was soon fired. Now they have no ombudsman, because reasons, mostly to do with asking questions nobody wants to answer.
