The asserted requirement that your "voice" must align with the color of your skin.

When stereotyping is not just okay but mandatory:

We don't need no black faces. Black does double negative for nonassertive contexts.

I'm glad she clarified that.

Running for office is so much easier than having to produce value in a for-profit enterprise. You just wind up your mouth and let it run.

Busing: That Little Jew Was Me

> In April 1974, in his report to Judge William Doyle of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit, Finger offered the following rosy defense of his scheme:

> Despite the widespread opposition to busing, there is no evidence that it hurts anybody. The facts are that many children enjoy it. Others view it as just a thing one does like driving to work in one’s car. One just does it. Some children don’t like it, but that usually is because the bus is unsupervised and the children are teased or assaulted.

remember how a year or so ago, they were saying "it's alright to punch a nazi in the face"?

when will netroots adopt a logo of a boot stamping on a face (wearing a nazi helmet, of course)?
Oh, and it goes without saying that netroots logo will be an animated gif

The context is defensive. Pressley is pushing back against the House leadership and specifically the CBC.

From The Hill:

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), aligned with Pelosi, is also furious with the progressive group Justice Democrats for backing challengers to incumbent lawmakers of color, especially African Americans.

Also....I'm really disappointed.

I thought, from the video still shot, she was going to sing and instead of being a modern style "traditional" black voice we hear on the pop radio mixes, we would hear something else. Something surprising! Maybe Opera or Gilbert and Sullivan or even Kate Smith :-)

Nope. No singing. Too bad.

This is what you get when you are in a one-party state - there is no push-back on wacko-ness. Pressley is the representative for the 7th Congressional district, which covers parts of Boston, Cambridge, and several other towns, and crosses three county lines. Pressley beat incumbent (D) Michael Capuano in a primary and ran unopposed in the general election in 2018. Capuano ran unopposed and unprimaried in 2016. In 2014, Capuano faced only Green Party candidate Jason Lowenthal, who was disqualified because the petitions he filed were for the primary and not the general election, and his name did not appear on the general election ballot. In 2012, Capuano won after the incumbent, Ed Markey (D) switched to the 5th District due to redistricting. Capuano beat an independent that year. Markey won the district in 2000, 2002, and 2006 running unopposed. Since 2000, the Republicans put forth a candidate only three times - in 2010, 2008, and 2004.

Not a lot of pressure to moderate one's views, coming from this regime.

There were a lot of working class people in Russia who weren't on board with the reforms of the Bolsheviks. This was contrary to Marxist ideology. Lenin solved the problem by defining those members of the working class who were resistant to his reforms as being "petit bourgeoise". This previously non existent class was the enemy of the revolution and its members were treated even more harshly than the white Russians....I don't know what made me think of this just now.

Ted Nugent is certainly an ignorant, undisciplined, ranting observer of the political scene, like many entertainers on the left and the right, but his blather is no worse than the lefty nonsense spouted by Alyssa Milano or Snoop Dogg. White nationalist? I don't see it in the description of Nugent's political views on Wikipedia.

So, I really don't understand what you are referring to by Trump's "white nationalist" support. I am sure those characters are out there, but how many of them are there out there? Are we talking about the KKK or the Aryan Nation? There aren't many of them.

Are we talking about good ol' boys from the rural south and west? Well, they are certainly out there, but they are part of the long-time American scene, and their primary message isn't white folks are better. Their primary message is similar to rap: the cultural boast. Consider the lyrics to Hardy's "Rednecker":

My town's smaller than your town
And I got a bigger buck and bass on my wall
I got a little more kick in my drawl,
Y'all
I got little more spit in my chaw
And my truck's louder than your truck
And my collar's a little more blue
You might think that you're redneck
But I'm rednecker than you.

You may hate that, but it's classic youthful cultural bragging, and it is not about white supremacy. See Capulets and Montagues.

Please elucidate your analysis of the "white nationalist" element of Trump's support. It's like the Democratic-supporting rappers, right? It's good ol' boys. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's not white nationalist, it's cultural chauvinism.

Jeff said...

So what is Presley's objection to white supremacists? They're just white faces being white voices.

He definitely was no upper class black kid growing up. Maybe he lost his "Ethnic" accent in the Air Force.

the whole black racial thing has set blacks back 50 years and more.

If Howard could provide legit examples (he can’t) then I would welcome a comparison to the La Raza Democrats (and their influence on the open borders Democrat party) and the New Black Panthers (and their support by and for the CBC and Democrat party). We know Obama stepped in to keep the Panthers from having to serve time for crimes they had already plead guilty to.

I saw Ted in Carson Valley on the 4th in 2018. His Great White Buffalo song, the way he sung it that night, sounded like a white national anthem. The crowd was full of roided phony tough guys strutting around like Banty Chickens with their gun nut anti-immigrant, anti-BLM t-shirts. Ted repeatedly got the crowd riled up with slogans that reflected the t-shirts. The few women that were there were the skankiest slags I've ever seen. It was quite sad.

I gotta say, however, that Ted has still got it playing stranglehold. Everything else is garbage, but that one tune was worth the price of admission.

(put your earbuds in, this is for the deeper crowd... )

Trump's attack is actually spotlighting a problem that others have noticed about AOC and her Freshman Squad - they are still behaving like twitter activists, when they are now congress-women with the ability to actually change things. But they are lazy, still throwing rocks from the sidelines, instead of rolling up their sleeves and puting in the hard work.

What's up with that?

HOWARD
English: from the Norman personal name Huard, Heward, composed of the Germanic elements hug 'heart', 'mind', 'spirit' + hard 'hardy', 'brave', 'strong'. English: from the Anglo-Scandinavian personal name Haward, composed of the Old Norse elements há 'high' + varðr 'guardian', 'warden'. English: variant of Ewart 2.

...ah, it's all starting to come together now.

Reminds me of the scene in BEVERLY HILLS COP where Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), the cop from Detroit, encounters two California plainclothesmen, one white, one black. The black cop speaks standard, non-accented English and comes across as educated and non-ghetto. Foley mocks him for not speaking more like a stereotype. I thought it was funny then. Not so much now.

Anyway, a bunch of us from Michigan had gathered together and Ted came over and spoke with us for quite some time. Mostly about where in Michigan we were from and hunting, of course. He was a really nice guy. Signed a ton of autographs. Some guys had even brought their bows/crossbows with and he signed them, too.
