"Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!" — says Kanye West (in an interview with David Letterman).

The Daily Beast reports.
In the midst of a somewhat confusing argument about his “fear” as a man during the #MeToo movement, Kanye says, “This is like my thing with Trump—we don’t have to feel the same way, but we have the right to feel what we feel.” When he wears his “Make America Great Again” hat, he says it’s “not about politics” but rather an attempt to break the stigma around showing support for Trump....

“So if I see a person that I admire talking about Donald Trump can think whatever he does,” [Letterman] says, “I wonder if those thoughts, indirectly, aren’t hurting people who are already being hurt.”...
[Kanye] expresses sympathy for Trump voters who are “treated like enemies of America because that’s what they felt.”...

“Have you ever been beat up in your high school for wearing the wrong hat?” [says Kanye]. Asked who is doing the bulk of the bullying in America right now, he replies, “Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!”
I found that story because I could see something people were googling today was sending traffic to an old post of mine ("We can infer that Kanye West, Russell Simmons, and Sean Combs declined to talk to the NYT about Donald Trump" (August 2017)).

ADDED: Speaking of old articles about Trump and rappers, I'm reading the July 2015 New Yorker article "Donald Trump Is a Rapper" (by Jelani Cobb):
Donald Trump was gifted with a surname that already sounds like a rapper’s nom de microphone.... Trump’s combativeness and overt egomania... is precisely the behavior we expect—nay, demand—from hip-hop artists....

Hip-hop has been a leading force in what might be called the un-ironic American self-homage.... [Trump's] enduring presence as a figure of public interest is directly tied to the way he offers an aspirational identity that appeals, in particular, to working-class men....

None of this will get him elected.... [M]ostly Trump is simply played out. Preening egotism has a limited shelf life, even for rappers. This is his fraction of a moment of possibility in a campaign that, like a new single buoyed by hype and shock value, grabs the public when it’s released, then falls completely off the charts.

From the article, just before the "so if I see" excerpt:

From there, Letterman tries to get Kanye to condemn the Republican-led voter suppression efforts during the most recent midterm elections.

Use examples, Mariachi Santa Claus. Be specific. Once you have your specific example, ask Kanye about how his "thoughts" are hurting a person. Not people. Pick a particular person. And then make the case that your particular person is being thought-hurt.

Because this "enemy of the people" schtick is literally about silencing the individual in the name of the people.

I'm not a huge fan of Kanye (or his wife), but his political instincts and observations here are basically right.

We have a lotta really nice liberals in the Commentariat, who don't live in the blue epicenters.

Come to Downtown Oakland (blue epicenter) and wear an Obama t-shirt. You will be fine, nobody will care.

Come to Downtown Oakland (blue epicenter) and wear a MAGA hat. Indeed, wear it prominently on BART. You will cause an uproar. 100-0 odds some folks will say something to you. 50-50 odds you get punched. If punched, 10-90 odds anyone will stick up for you. You're the one supporting a "racist."

A recent Antifa warrior - Yvette Fallarca-- was nailed in Federal Court.

She's a public school teacher in Berkeley. I know a lotta kids who went there. Her take? She's fighting "Nazis."

In Hollywood, it's probably the same.

At the universities, it's probably the same.

Not whining, just describing the real world in the deep blue epicenters.

Why chocolate you ask? Because using vanilla WOULD BE RACIST!!!

There are some kids from Covington who can tell us about the risks of wearing a MAGA cap in public. Out in California an older man was sprayed in the face by a young antifa strumpet just for wearing a red cap to a rally. It wasn’t a MAGA cap, just an ordinary red trucker cap. Never mind, they attacked him anyway.

I'm always a bit hesitant to offer too much praise to a guy who has a history of saying and doing wacky things for the sake of publicity and for trying to maintain an image of being some sort of iconoclast. I mean, we're talking about a guy who courts controversy. We're talking about the guy who said "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish" and "George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People".

But I do have to give him credit for taking a position that will earn him nothing but derision, disdain, and hatred from certain very powerful entities. Say what you will about the guy, but he has most definitely not taken the easy road here.

Grabs the public where?

"when it’s released"

Uh oh. He hasn't released yet. Maybe that's what Letterman was jabbering on about.

"Kanye, who has been off medication for nearly a year, also acknowledges the reality that his disease may help fuel his creativity. “If you guys want these crazy ideas and these crazy stages and this crazy music and this crazy way of thinking,” he says, “there’s a chance if might come from a crazy person.”

Then, of course, there is Kanye’s bizarre love affair with President Donald Trump. "

I love when The New Yorker explains things to us in a voice inflected with smugness and certitude and condescension. It's their specialty, and they've raised it to an art form.

The entirety of Trump's first term so far has been a Democrat-led Trump voter suppression effort for the 2020 election.

And it's only going to get worse.

Kanye understands Rapper Trump’s mind. As do Mike Pence and Bill Barr. They are all quick thinking warriors that accept others for what hey are...provided only that they do not attack first.
Kanye is a key figure in Making America Great Again, why not like him 100%? He who fights with me is my brother.

I thought Letterman was dead. Oh well, only the good die young. Anyway, I no interest in seeing Left-wing asshole millionaire Letterman, who never was good at serious interviews, doing serious interviews.

Plus, there's nothing more painful than some white, square boomer who thinks he's "hip" and an honorary black man.

rcocean said...

Carson set the standard for mainstream talkshow hosts because he could do comedy, be a great straight-man, and do relatively serious interviews. Letterman was good at the comedy, and was an OK straight-man, but he was deadly boring when doing even quasi-serious interviews. He was either bored, out-of-his-depth, or tried to give us his opinions. Which were standard Show-biz leftism. Leno was better at serious interviews, which shows you how bad Letterman was.

rcocean said...

I'm writing about Lettermann because I have zero idea who Kayne West is. I hope he helps Trump somehow, but otherwise don't care.

Out here in the Los Angeles legal community it's not like Trump supporters are thick on the ground even over here in the close in East suburbs of LA. Go 60 miles east to Riverside and San Berdoo and you can admit to being a Trump supporter--but if you are within 20 miles of the coast, you sorta have to shoot, shovel and shut up. I tried warning some of my colleagues that Trump had an appeal and that lots of those folks in flyover country might vote for him--but my comments and warnings fell on deaf ears. The folks in that 20 mile zone are famously tolerant and accepting of divergent views---sarc.

About 2013 he got a transfer-promotion to Phoenix, but says he would have left SoCal anyway; he's only one of two old friends who voted for Trump (or at least admitted it) and he says his mother and sisters thought he was on drugs, and he had to defend himself.

Trump made The New Yorker funny again.

Sorry, no. It made the magazine tiresome. Trump humor is reflexive and hackneyed and aimed at people who think an appetite for limp scorn certifies them as cool kids, sort of like the jocks and cheerleaders in high school. If Vladimir Lenin were still alive, he'd call them useful idiots.

Neither party wanted my vote in 2016, but two immigrant friends, a blue-collar Hispanic man and a young female techie, went for Trump. I know a lifelong NYC Democratic insider who did not vote at all.

That The New Yorker is incurious about anomalies like these does not redound to its credit. That the New York Times has remade its entire "brand" to promote Trump hatred is the journalistic equivalent of eating one's seed corn.

Now Kanye West is a truth speaker. And Kim Kardashian is helping people serving ridiculously excessive drug sentences to get out of prison.

Truly the world has turned upside down.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

Democrat party sells out their own people for the power.

Nothing we don't already know

"It now is commonplace to recognize that Democrats — including Obama, Biden, Schumer, Clinton, and all the rest of them — all strongly supported building a border wall and keeping out Illegals. Biden even complained openly about “corrupt Mexico.” It was a key part of the Democrat program, dating back to the days of California’s Hispanic union leader Cesar Chavez, that the Illegals must be kept out because they take jobs from the economic underclass and bring down their wages by eagerly working for crumbs. Democrat Orthodoxy taught that the party had to protect African Americans and union workers from the influx of uncontrolled cheap labor.

And then the Democrats did some vote counting. They realized that they have the African-American voting population in their pockets anyway. They assumed that the White union workers never would leave either, since union bosses are well provided for by the Democrats. At the same time, the Democrats came to realize that an influx of Illegals rapidly would change the American electorate. They were right. They have changed the electorate in the California that once elected Nixon and Reagan. They have changed Colorado and New Mexico. They are changing Nevada and Arizona. They even are aiming at Texas. So they sold out African Americans — as they always do — and White union workers for a greater payoff at the voting booths.

Also people who do not experience the Bay Area don't understand how oppressive it is. It's far more oppressive than NYC or even LA. In NYC and LA, there are at least Republicans in some vicinity, commuters, businessmen even flying in.

Here there is none. Surrounding areas? Joking, it's Sacramento.
Businessmen visiting? just more lefty techie engineers who think they can run your lives far better than you can.

This is where you don't even have to be wearing a t-shirt or hat, they will listen to your conversations. I was having one with a liberal friend at a table (not even at the bar) at a casual restaurant. He's canuckian so always brings up gun control which I disagree with, politely. Some 20-something claiming to be a teacher butted right in, at our table, and starting arguing with me.
She failed and actually asked the waiter to kick me out, saying she felt "unsafe."

this is daily BS in the Bay Area.
This is also how Kamala will fail as mentioned before. She cannot even comprehend the other side, never mind form a cogent argument.

Why wouldn't they just use the card themselves and rake in over 27x the profit on day 1? Are people really that moronic?
