"'Unplanned' Box Office: Controversial Anti-Abortion Pic Surprises With Strong $6M Debut."

The Hollywood Reporter reports.
The pic tells the true story of Abby Johnson, who defected from Planned Parenthood to become a pro-life activist after witnessing an abortion at 13 weeks. Unplanned was partially financed by My Pillow founder Michael Lindell, who is a born-again Christian and outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump.
Hmm. I have not been following the politics of the My Pillow guy, only muting/fast-forwarding his commercials while smiling at the (fake?) sincerity of a man who really loves his pillow. Now, I see it's a whole political thing. The pillow is soothing because it's got the religion-and-politics some consumers like. I'm sure there's a left-wing pillow out there too.

“Well.....this thread was certainly much more fun and civil when we were discussing the My Pillow guy.”

I don’t think that any abortion discussion will ever be fun, or civil. Since abortion is apropos to the subject matter of this blog post, I can’t see complaining about a discussion about it as useful. The discussion of the My Pillow Guy was sort of boring actually.

“Tags: abortion, movies”

Ooops didn’t see any My Pillow tags.

You don’t think that the excerpts I linked to in countries in which ALL abortion is illegal is not dystopic?

The underlying argument is that America will miraculously become just like El Salvador as if there are no other differences between the countries.

I don't understand your comment, Anne. My sense is that Mike Lindell is completely honest about his pillow and other products. Where does the sense of 'fakeness' come from?

Both one-child and selective-child are transhuman policies that avoid reconciling rights and responsibilities of the mother and father with the baby in the womb. These policies may have been warranted before the age of enlightenment, when people believed that babies were delivered by Stork at the time of viability or convenience, or that evolution happened through spontaneous conception; but, today, the Twilight faith, Pro-Choice religion, and wicked solution are green, anachronistic, and merely selective and opportunistic remnants of a progressive liberal (i.e. monotonically divergent) era in human development.

Althouse, you make some good arguments sometimes, and bad arguments (from alogic standpoint). Sometimes I agree and sometimes I disagree.

But your last paragraph in this piece is the dumbest paragraph you’ve ever written that I have seen.

I do thank you for presenting the topic. Somebody in the thread said late term abortions are so like Mengele. I agree. We are becoming a barbaric nation so women can kill their unborn, and soon to be, born babies because “it’s my body”.

Murderous morons! And you, Althouse, support them.

I don't know if there is a left-wing pillow, but I do know that if there is one, it's made of hemp. And it comes with a three page dissertation on the economic and political history of hemp, "Hemp: Struggles and Triumphs" ("Die Hempen Kampfen und Triumphen" auf Deutsch. I learned German so that I could say that).

DBQ @5:57 PM: How true.

I had suggested a couple of days ago to turn off pre-moderation and simply banish the trolls after repeated transgressions. Now we seem to have the worst of both worlds.

But I see how that the bad actors are still, shall we say, acting.

Present company excepted, of course.

Michael K announces he’s performed abortions and is STILL pro choice and this causes no pushback by you folks?

I see the nasty ignorant Inga is back.

I performed abortions as a resident in 1969. And, yes, I am prochoice but I do not support a party that supports infanticide and late term abortion of viable infants. One of us does.

Banning abortion completely is dangerous but I do support the reversal of Roe v Wade as it is bad law and the political system should deal with the issue as it would have in the 70s if the Supremes had not cut off debate.

We have here a commenter who is unaware of any nuance in political maters and slavishly supports the party of death.

Reportedly at least one doc reconsidered when (atypically) they pursued the fetal remedy with ultrasound/imagery assist..seeing the blob avoiding their probe before suction...

Were saw the movie tonight. IT is pretty well done. The actress that played Abby was excellent./

The guy that payed the lawyer was also very good. He had a great line. Abby complained that the process (of Planned Parenthood sued her) wasn't fair. The lawyer said "Fare is what you give the taxi driver. This is the law." They won their case.

The planned Parenthood supervisor made a nice villain.

Well done.

I see Inga has not yet run out of bile.

Michael K said...

The ultrasound video as he did the abortion was the most dramatic moment of the film.

I understand the guy who played the doc is a former abortion doc.

walter said...

If you care too, recent Rubin Report has a podcast interview with the woman who put Unplanned movie in motion.
Rubin is "pro choice".
Check it out.

“I see Inga has not yet run out of bile.”

I see Michael K has not run out of hypocrisy.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

So Michael K, the burning question is, did viewing the movie make you pro choice and anti abortion? Or are you still pro choice?

Michael K said...

Nasty Inga is not yet asleep. Go away. There are adults talking here,

walter said...

Inga,
Do you have a cut-off point on the birth timeline for abortion?
Did you miss MK's mention of timeframe and nuance?
Live ion the now, Inga.

I would suspect most nurses would be aghast at assembling/arranging fetal body parts in some macabre mr. potato head process to determine full extraction.

“I would suspect most nurses would be aghast at assembling/arranging fetal body parts in some macabre mr. potato head process to determine full extraction.”

I would suspect so too. What are you trying to say? Why not address your comment to Michael K, who is a physician and reported he is PRO CHOICE despite having performed abortions himself. Let’s not play these asinine games.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“Do you have a cut-off point on the birth timeline for abortion?”

Did you not read this thread? If you are too lazy to read it, don’t comment.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“Nasty Inga is not yet asleep. Go away. There are adults talking here,”

Michael, can you for once drop your little boy persona? I’ve told you this before, don’t expect treatment that is better than you hand out. Things don’t work that way in real life. Now answer the question like an adult. Did the movie cause you to change your stance on abortion, are you STILL pro choice? Are you brave enough to honestly answer?

walter said...

Ah..silly me.
I thought your accusation re MK signaled you were pro-choice, carte blanche.
My bad..so sorry.

Blogger Inga...Allie Oop said...
My stance on abortion has pretty much been the same in the 8 years I’ve been commenting here. I think that by the 20 week, the great majority of women know they are pregnant and the great majority who go on to have an abortion is even earlier. So abortion beyond the 20th week should be illegal and health exceptions should be allowed.
--
So..will you protest/are you protesting your Dem reps on behalf of this?

Inga...Allie Oop said...

I always let my opinion on the matter be known no matter who I’m addressing. Protest what? In Wisconsin the law already prohibits abortion beyond 20 weeks, don’t you know this?

walter said...

Yes, yes..politics stops at the state boundary...I "know" that.
We must consider that in a thread about a movie playing nation-wide, because Inga.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

People want abortion to be a state issue. What do you want Walter? Make up your damn mind.

Now I’m going to bed. Michael K, it’s safe to come out of hiding and tell everyone here if the movie made you change your mind on being PRO CHOICE. Be brave.

walter said...

Not YOUR people, Inga.

The left-wing pillow is actually a rock, but the left-wingers keep telling themselves that it's so soft it's like sleeping on a cloud. They can't understand why their heads always hurt in the morning.

I LOVE Dust Bunny Queen’s Go See Cal video! I watched those for years in my California childhood.
Other than that, I don’t really like our Mr Pillow but my dog loves it so I will shop for new sheets there.
God Bless the poor children.

Another 230 comment thread with a third of them by you-know-who. The movie was very well done and I have not changed my mind.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“The movie was very well done and I have not changed my mind.”

Oh brave boy, after the thread is buried, you admit you are STILL PRO CHOICE, even after seeing the movie that is supposed to be so horrific as to change people’s minds. I guess the mission of the movie failed in your case. I’ll be sure to remind you of what you said here in future abortion threads when you drag my name into one of your comments, as IF I’m more pro choice than YOU are, you cowardly hypocrite.
