"If even a successful businessman and entrepreneur like Governor Hickenlooper can't openly support capitalism in the Democratic primary, it's clear this is Senator Sanders' party now."

Said Howard Schultz (the Starbucks founder who may run for President as an independent), which was quoted on "Face the Nation" this morning, in a question to John Hickenlooper, whose answer was so dispiriting that I turned off the TV in the middle. Transcript:
GOV. HICKENLOOPER: I've been-- the point I was making is that we defined people by these labels that- that often have all kinds of associations and baggage with them in that sense. Do I believe in small business? Of course I believe in small business. I started probably more than 20 different small businesses.
That's where I turned it off, judging Hickenlooper to be hopelessly mealymouthed (and he was my first-pick among the current Democratic candidates, but I'd never listened to him speak before). He continues:
I'd have-- in one year I'd have over a million customers. I understand that. But what's happening-- I think it's kind of a silly question. We should be looking at some of the reasons be- behind why we have less and less start ups.... We should look at some of the reasons why, you know, more and more people aren't wanting to start a business.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Sure, but you understand it is a main Republican talking point to label Democrats right now as anti-business socialists.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Right? But that's ridiculous, obviously there are--

MARGARET BRENNAN: So you would reject that.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: --the Democratic party is a big tent.

MARGARET BRENNAN: You reject that label.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Yes. Absolutely. I think that's not accurate. And I think that, as your interview with Elizabeth Warren showed, there are all kinds of- of- of different people making up the Democratic Party. Do I believe in- in free markets? Do I believe that, you know, you put capital to work to- to create jobs and- and improve your community? You know back when I was a kid, businesses understood the part of their job wasn't just to make as much profit as they could but it was to create the community. Once you get back into these labels, am I a capitalist? Am I a socialist? How much of how much of a capitalist I am I versus how much of a socialist? That becomes kind of silly doesn't it?

MARGARET BRENNAN: Well--

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: I mean,

MARGARET BRENNAN: If-

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: In a funny way--
No, it's not funny at all.  You wouldn't say you're a capitalist, then you said you rejected the label "socialist." You don't want to be labeled — it's "silly" and "ridiculous." He needs to speak better than that. He needs a much stronger presence or he's done.
MARGARET BRENNAN: The other candidates were comfortable answering the question so I wanted to offer you a chance to- to answer it. understand you're not comfortable directly answering

GOV.. HICKENLOOPER: I-I--

MARGARET BRENNAN: But I want to move on to some--

GOV HICKENLOOPER: Well I-I'm comfortable. I'm hap--

MARGARET BRENNAN: Go ahead.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Let me just- I'm happy to say I'm a capitalist but I think at a certain point the labels do nothing but divide us.
No, you were not happy to say you're a capitalist. You weaseled until Margaret Brennan pushed you to realize you look hopelessly weak. But I had already turned off the TV and thought forget about you. I'm only at this point in the interview because I wanted to write a blog post and I looked up the transcript.
MARGARET BRENNAN: OK.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: What I'm trying to build this campaign around, is to say that as a country we've got to stop finding every excuse to divide ourselves--

MARGARET BRENNAN: Point taken.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: And begin working together because we've got some big issues to make.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Point taken. In terms of your platform. I understand you support universal health care not necessarily Medicaid for all- Medicare for all. You've supported some free trade deals in the past like NAFTA. You've touted your executive experience in a field full of legislators here. You don't like labels but you sound like more of a centrist. How do you keep the Democratic party from splintering further?

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Well try- if I've tried to avoid this all the labeling that goes on. You know, I mean....
You know, I mean, avoidant is not good. It's low energy.
... I'm running for president because I believe I could beat Donald Trump....
Not with that low-energy, avoidant babbling.
... but I also believe that can bring us together on the other side and begin getting stuff done. And that's one thing I think that I bring to the table is I'm a doer. I'm not someone who's- I mean I'm a dreamer too and I- I believe in big visions....
A doer who's a dreamer, a dreamer of big visions. In his dreams, he beats Donald Trump. Noted.

Apparently a centrist is now someone who doesn't openly assert businesses are their enemy. It seems like every time the left media wants to claim a centrist exists the standard is something that until last week didn't conflict with being liberal.

I've tried to avoid this all the labeling that goes on.

Have you taken a gander at the dem's new rules for Super Delegates and vote tallying at the convention?

No Super Delegates are allowed to vote on the first ballot, but if no candidate receives a majority on that first ballot, the Super Delegates can ride in like the cavalry and select the party approved nominee.

The dems are really all for that "count all votes"/"democracy" thing....except for their own nominating process. The party leaders still get to keep their fingers on the scale with the ability to directly select about 16% of the total # of delegates in play (the super delegates).

They have also front loaded some specific big states that will take out some interlopers early.

Howard Schultz openly disdains the Democrat Party's socialists.

John Hickenlooper does not feel free to do the same.

Joe Biden might feel constrained similarly.

However, Schultz is a genuine liberal running as an Independent against Socialists and against Trump.

If Schultz continues to run as an Independent, he will be safe from the Left's usual racism accusations. Schultz used his Starbucks position to act against perceived racism and was mocked for doing so.

Also, Schultz was unusually generous in providing relatively good pay and benefits -- in particular medical insurance -- to his ordinary employees.

And Schultz is rich enough to fund his own campaign.

If Schultz continues to run for President and if the Democrat Party nominates a leftist candidate, the Schultz might affect the election significantly.

Howard Schultz interviewed by Bill Kristol on BookTV.

The playbook is set for the Dems: They must run a socialist, and preferably a WOC. It is simply too late in the game to change this. It must play out this way now.

Wow, that was really an awful, awful performance.

Here is the thing I just don't get- a Democrat can run in the Democratic primary as a full-throated capitalist, and can deliberately attack the far left of the party, and win the nomination. In the field so far, that position is completely open at the moment since all the other declared candidates are basically openly socialist. Such a candidate would surely find that he/she would garner a solid 30+% of the voters in the primaries- a bloc quite a bit larger than anyone else's. Hickenlooper is missing a big fucking opportunity with this awful performance. Schultz, in my opinion, should reconsider his strategy and participate in the primaries directly- he can't win as a third party candidate, and I do think he would sure peal off at least 5% of the right side of the ultimate Democratic candidate's most economically conservative potential voters.

In short, if Schultz wants to be president- run as Democrat right now in the primaries- there is a big open section of the primary voters he can win that no declared candidate at the moment can.

From a purely logical point of view, a candidate entering the Democratic primary should look to see where the field itself is centering it's politics- at the moment, every declared candidate is positioning themselves to divide up the 70% of the primary voters that are at least lukewarm socialists. Sanders basically owns 1/3 of that 70% by being a socialist by name and long reputation- the other 6 declared candidates are now fighting for 50% of the electorate.

Maybe Joe Biden runs as such a candidate that I think can win the nomination easily, but his record wouldn't suggest he has that kind of maverick streak in him. While I don't want to go all snotty scotty on this, her choice of law school (always go to the best law school you can get in to) was not impressive. She parlayed fake Indian credentials to get ahead.

And once she got on the Harvard law faculty, she became an expert of sorts in bankruptcy law--and made a bunch of money in the housing market.

Well whoopty doo. To be a successful politician, you have to be able to at least fake sincerity and authenticity. That takes more than 1/1024th Cherokee blood, or a beer in the kitchen. Call me a fussy old geezer, but I've never liked seeing 70ish year old women swigging beer from a bottle. It's just not authentic.

Contrast that with Trump. You call him a liar and a fraudster (you left out pussy grabber and serial adulterer). Okay there is all of that. But what you see is what you get with Trump. He may well be a jerk, but he'll let you know what's on his mind, and there is no doubt that he believes it (at least at the moment he says it). Trump the man is authenticity personified. You may not like what he is (and a lot of people don't) but unlike Ms. Warren, he's not going to waste your time blowing smoke up your backside.

I don't waste time thinking about fake authenticity.

"Elizabeth Warren" was the answer to a simple (to us)Jeopardy question last year.

None of the well informed trivia expert contestants knew who she was. Even after Alex gave the answer with minor explanation, their faces were blank.

The playbook is set for the Dems: They must run a socialist, and preferably a WOC. It is simply too late in the game to change this.

At this point in the 2016 election cycle the playbook was equally set for the GOP — the nomination would go to either Rubio or Jeb! with an outside chance for Cruz. Only Cruz was among the last three standing. The Iowa caucuses and the snows of New Hampshire are still a long ways off from the Ides of March. The voters still need to weigh in.

“President Donald Trump and his children made millions as they swindled working-class, aspiring entrepreneurs with the promise of lucrative business deals, according to a new lawsuit.

The class action lawsuit filed Monday alleges there was a simple goal behind the complex con – enrichment “by systematically defrauding economically marginalized people looking to invest in their educations, start their own business, and pursue the American Dream.”

Trump recruited prospective investors by telling them about a “great opportunity” at ACN, a multi-level marketing company, the lawsuit states. Trump told the would-be investors that he’d done his own research and wasn’t endorsing the company for any money, court papers say.“

Nothing seems to terrify and flummox them more. That’s why Trump made the 2015 GOP field look cowardly—like badly programmed robots trying to mimic moving human speech without saying anything sharp or substantial. That’s also why it’s very difficult to imagine a politician doing well this coming election. On the national stage, we’ve seen how vivid political speech can move people. I don’t think we’re going back to mush-mouthed political hacks. The Dems may nominate a hack or a cipher, but hard to imagine the country embracing them, even if they mimic Trump and literally hug the flag.

I start most political discussions with the following premises:

1. Despite its flaws, the USA is a beacon of light, and the last, best hope for mankind.

2. We proved this by beating the colonialists, the slave holders, the Nazis in WW2 and the Communists in the Cold War.

So, if one accepts these premises, it is reasonable to ask; how did the USA achieve this?

Again, in answering, I stay broad and general. The USA became a great power by adopting:

1. a capitalist financial sysyem based on free markets and profit incentives;
2. a Constitutional legal system, based on Separation of Powers, property rights, and the rule of law.
3. a Judeo-Christian value system, based on the Biblle and the Golden Rule.

The Left does believe in any of this stuff. They want post-birth abortions, gay marriage, lifetime govt jobs with pensions, open borders and multi-cultural diversity.

Mealy-mouth John Hickenlooper just jumped head first into the Leftwing swamp.

Feel free to correct me if any of the above is wrong.

Near the end of Michael Cohen's testimony yesterday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked the former fixer whether President Trump had ever run an insurance fraud. Cohen said yes, naming three Trump Organization executives: Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman and Matthew Calamari.

This organization has never had a proctology exam like it's about to get," Bloomberg's Timothy O'Brien told me shortly after watching Cohen's testimony. "It's going to surface records. That's going to become problematic for all of them to keep their stories straight."

O'Brien is in a good position to know. In 2006, Trump tried — and failed — to sue O'Brien for $5 billion for writing that Trump had a much lower net worth than he claimed.

In the course of that litigation, because Trump went after O'Brien on financial grounds, O'Brien got his tax returns and financial records.”

The attorney general’s office sued the Trump Foundation in June, alleging the president and several of his children used it for their personal and political benefit. That lawsuit, which seeks millions of dollars in restitution, will continue, even as the foundation agrees to cease existence.

It isn't about moral authority, it is about whether the American-Indian claims harm her in the Democratic primary. Before you claim no one cares, why then would she herself try to fix the situation by completely unpromptedly releasing the results of a DNA test to "prove" she was American-Indian. The most reasonable explanation is she herself thought that issue would harm her and wanted to circumvent it before she formally announced her candidacy. And I guarantee this isn't the last time the matter will be raised. The most likely people to bring it up in the future will be talking head surrogates for Kamala Harris, or journalists who support Kamala, who will publicly "worry" that Elizabeth Warren's Native American claim, harm her chances in the General as the mean and evil Trump and Republicans will hammer her on it endlessly.

“This month, two incredible investigative stories have given us an opportunity to lift the hood of the Trump Organization, look inside, and begin to understand what the business of this unusual company actually is. It is not a happy picture. The Times published a remarkable report, on October 2nd, that showed that much of the profit the Trump Organization made came not from successful real-estate investment but from defrauding state and federal governments through tax fraud. This week, ProPublica and WNYC co-published a stunning story and a “Trump, Inc.” podcast that can be seen as the international companion to the Times piece. They show that many of the Trump Organization’s international deals also bore the hallmarks of financial fraud, including money laundering, deceptive borrowing, outright lying to investors, and other potential crimes.

The reporters—Heather Vogell and Peter Elkind of ProPublica, and Andrea Bernstein and Meg Cramer of WNYC—identified a similar pattern that occurred in deals around the world. The basic scheme worked like this: some local developer in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Canada, or some other location pays Trump, up front, for the use of his name and agrees to pay him a cut of every sale—not only of units but of things like hotel-room minibar items or, even, bathrobes. These projects typically require sixty per cent or more of units to be sold before construction gets under way. The same set of problems occurred in multiple projects. Many of the early units would be sold to shadow buyers—hidden behind shell companies. Donald Trump or, often, Ivanka Trump would deceive future investors by telling them that a much higher percentage of units had been sold than was factual. More investors pour money in, getting enough money into the project, often, to begin construction. Eventually, the project fails and goes bankrupt. Many of those investors lose all of their money. But the Trumps do not. They got paid up front and are paid continuously throughout until the day the project collapses. They are paid for their name and for overseeing the project, and, if the building is opened, the Trumps manage the property day to day, in exchange for hefty fees.

While it is always possible that trump could do something really stupid ( as any president could) with the Left lurch the Democrats have taken the only real question is does trump carry thirty states in 2020 or thirty five states in 2020? Who would venture he has an outside chance of pulling 38 states?

Inga tells us how wonderful Germany and Sweden are doing. Germany: 20% VAT rate and 42% at 54,000 Euros and above ($60,00 USD). The Swedish VAT rate is 20% and the personal income tax rate above 18,000 krona of 32% ( 0 to 18,000 krona income tax exempt). 18,000 krona equals $2,000 US. Denmark is even worse taxation with regards to personal taxation. German GDP per capita is $44,000 in 2017. Swedish GDP $53,000 in 2017 and the US $59,000 in 2017. Folks you decide who on balance is better off.

"He says we need to come together so we can get things done."

Statists always say that as they get ready to pick your pocket. The things they want to get done invariably expand the power of Der Staat.

Inga: "In the meantime Germany and the Scandinavian countries are doing quite well. "

The entire Eurozone is in trouble economically and the Germans have tied themselves even more tightly to Putin's gas imports.

Natural gas is currently used to generate 35%+ energy and that number is growing dramatically.

Putin supplies 90% of the Natural Gas to Germany, with more coming via the NordStream expanded pipeline.

Within a short period of time Putin will have his finger directly on the button that controls upward of 50% of all German energy consumption.

Who knew sucking up to Putin and putting ones nation at Putin's mercy would be considered "doing quite well" by an American lefty Hoax Collusion dupe?

The Democrat field reminds me of Whack a Mole. They pop up, get whacked, sink down, pop up. All look alike except Occasional and Islamic Woman. And Skateboard B. Extra points if you score hits on them. Yet Biden and Saunders are the ones actually leading in polls among potential voters. Why the gap? Is it too soon or too late? No trend emerging? or emerging trend missed by all ? The Millennials are as locked out of the future and of politics as the working class was before Trump. But the workers wanted jobs whereas the Millennials are locked out by student debt, a proxy for unstated wishes - a husband or a wife, children, a full time job, a house, Saturday fun. PCness has alienated them from knowing their own individual wishes while simultaneously telling them that social change can end their kind of alienation. Miss having kids? Save the planet's future instead. Who can speak for such confusion?

Germany and Scandinavia have also done "quite well" for the last 70 years because the US took care of their defense needs so the lefties in the Eurozone could spend more money on their welfare programs.

But under Trump that is changing, and oh how the lefties are squealing like stuck pigs.

"“Sweden’s national defense has been neglected for decades. What has happened is shameful. The budget allocated to the armed forces must reflect needs, operational realities and the requirement to replace outdated equipment. The goal should be to raise spending on defense to 2 percent of GDP, the recommended NATO level, inside 10 years,” said Ulf Kristersson, leader of the Moderates and someone being widely tipped to become Sweden’s next prime minister."

https://www.defensenews.com/global/europe/2018/09/12/new-swedish-government-advocates-for-greater-defense-spending/

Doing "quite well".....

Meanwhile, internally, things like this are happening....

"Sweden stands at abyss as national police chief begs for help
Sweden on brink of civil war, National Police Chief: “Help us, help us!”

"A leaked report concluded that the number of lawless areas (commonly referred to as “no-go zones”) in Sweden now totals 61, up from 55 in just one year’s time. This increase represents not only the total number, but also the geographical size of these areas."

But hey, its all good in this nation of just 10,000,000 people.....

One of the reasons the EU is fighting so hard against Brexit is that Britain is just one of 2 nations that delivers a surplus of funds to Brussels for redistribution.

Britain is being milked by the Eurozone weenies and having their jobs shipped out of the nation while being forced to essentially maintain open borders and keep taking in the wave after wave of islamic supremacist militants.

But its really about the money.
