"If even a successful businessman and entrepreneur like Governor Hickenlooper can't openly support capitalism in the Democratic primary, it's clear this is Senator Sanders' party now."

Said Howard Schultz (the Starbucks founder who may run for President as an independent), which was quoted on "Face the Nation" this morning, in a question to John Hickenlooper, whose answer was so dispiriting that I turned off the TV in the middle. Transcript:
GOV. HICKENLOOPER: I've been-- the point I was making is that we defined people by these labels that- that often have all kinds of associations and baggage with them in that sense. Do I believe in small business? Of course I believe in small business. I started probably more than 20 different small businesses.
That's where I turned it off, judging Hickenlooper to be hopelessly mealymouthed (and he was my first-pick among the current Democratic candidates, but I'd never listened to him speak before). He continues:
I'd have-- in one year I'd have over a million customers. I understand that. But what's happening-- I think it's kind of a silly question. We should be looking at some of the reasons be- behind why we have less and less start ups.... We should look at some of the reasons why, you know, more and more people aren't wanting to start a business.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Sure, but you understand it is a main Republican talking point to label Democrats right now as anti-business socialists.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Right? But that's ridiculous, obviously there are--

MARGARET BRENNAN: So you would reject that.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: --the Democratic party is a big tent.

MARGARET BRENNAN: You reject that label.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Yes. Absolutely. I think that's not accurate. And I think that, as your interview with Elizabeth Warren showed, there are all kinds of- of- of different people making up the Democratic Party. Do I believe in- in free markets? Do I believe that, you know, you put capital to work to- to create jobs and- and improve your community? You know back when I was a kid, businesses understood the part of their job wasn't just to make as much profit as they could but it was to create the community. Once you get back into these labels, am I a capitalist? Am I a socialist? How much of how much of a capitalist I am I versus how much of a socialist? That becomes kind of silly doesn't it?

MARGARET BRENNAN: Well--

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: I mean,

MARGARET BRENNAN: If-

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: In a funny way--
No, it's not funny at all.  You wouldn't say you're a capitalist, then you said you rejected the label "socialist." You don't want to be labeled — it's "silly" and "ridiculous." He needs to speak better than that. He needs a much stronger presence or he's done.
MARGARET BRENNAN: The other candidates were comfortable answering the question so I wanted to offer you a chance to- to answer it. understand you're not comfortable directly answering

GOV.. HICKENLOOPER: I-I--

MARGARET BRENNAN: But I want to move on to some--

GOV HICKENLOOPER: Well I-I'm comfortable. I'm hap--

MARGARET BRENNAN: Go ahead.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Let me just- I'm happy to say I'm a capitalist but I think at a certain point the labels do nothing but divide us.
No, you were not happy to say you're a capitalist. You weaseled until Margaret Brennan pushed you to realize you look hopelessly weak. But I had already turned off the TV and thought forget about you. I'm only at this point in the interview because I wanted to write a blog post and I looked up the transcript.
MARGARET BRENNAN: OK.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: What I'm trying to build this campaign around, is to say that as a country we've got to stop finding every excuse to divide ourselves--

MARGARET BRENNAN: Point taken.

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: And begin working together because we've got some big issues to make.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Point taken. In terms of your platform. I understand you support universal health care not necessarily Medicaid for all- Medicare for all. You've supported some free trade deals in the past like NAFTA. You've touted your executive experience in a field full of legislators here. You don't like labels but you sound like more of a centrist. How do you keep the Democratic party from splintering further?

GOV. HICKENLOOPER: Well try- if I've tried to avoid this all the labeling that goes on. You know, I mean....
You know, I mean, avoidant is not good. It's low energy.
... I'm running for president because I believe I could beat Donald Trump....
Not with that low-energy, avoidant babbling.
... but I also believe that can bring us together on the other side and begin getting stuff done. And that's one thing I think that I bring to the table is I'm a doer. I'm not someone who's- I mean I'm a dreamer too and I- I believe in big visions....
A doer who's a dreamer, a dreamer of big visions. In his dreams, he beats Donald Trump. Noted.

I know how that works. You read about a governor named Daniels or Pawlenty and think, "Hey, he must be impressive." Then you hear them talk or learn more about them and you aren't so impressed.

The Democrats this time look even more of a "clown car" than the Republicans last time, and who'd have thought that would have been possible? Every week another bad performance - Warren, Harris, Gilibrand, Booker and now Hickenlooper, with embarrassing quotes and stories coming out about Biden and Klobuchar.

If a candidates find it so hard to admit to being capitalists or being for capitalism, does that mean the "moderate lane" is out of commission? Is everybody required to "merge left."

Here's an interesting aside to all this:

Rod Dreher on the Maoist/Stalinist Cultural Revolution the lefties here have unleashed.

"“A friend in DC told me this week that he was recently at a dinner party where one of the other guests said to him, ‘Growing up in the Soviet Union, my parents taught me never to believe a thing I heard in the media, and to be very careful what I say out loud. Now I find myself telling my children the same thing.’… Those people know how to live. They have wisdom for us. So do others who came through communism. They can help us beat the Cultural Revolution.”

And California is not the only lunatic lefty state where things are less fantastico than they ought to be:

Indeed. America is fully capeable of doing better than any nation on earth and we won’t be seeing a Venezuelan future any time soon no matter what political party is in power.

It took leftists 20 years to destroy Venezuela, as Adam Smith once wrote there's a lot of ruin in a country. No doubt it would take much longer to destroy America but recall the left lectured America that Venezuela was an economic miracle for the first 15 years of its destruction.

By the way all the Scandinavian countries and Germany have rejected the socialist regulation model the American left is seeking to implement. As with Venezuela they drawn by the goal of government primacy: the very idea of freedom drives them nuts.

A majority of House Democrats on Wednesday voted to lower the federal voting age from 18 to 16.

A number of high-profile Democrats voted in favor of the legislation, including California Reps. Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, Maxine Waters and Ted Lieu, Hawaii Rep. and Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

House Democrats voted 125-108 in favor of Pressley’s amendment, with two members voting present and three members not voting.

House Republicans voted against the amendment 197-1. Texas Rep. Michael Burgess was the only Republican to vote aye.

Ssween is in no way socialist. It's has a market economy, in some ways more dynamic than America's, until recently.

What is does have its very high rates of taxation. And it works in Sweden, because the government is competent and consensus driven. Things work and services are good. And the population, until recently, was relatively homogenous. Everyone is on the same page. And it's tiny.

America government is none of these things.

Capitalism is the democratic economic system based on the once novel belief that workers should retain their earnings

The term was actually coined by Marx and the correct term should be "free market" but Capitalism is still most common, The trouble is that crony capitalism, also known as Fascism, is the current policy of Democrats and many GOPe Republicans.

Mussolini called it "Corporatism." and he was correct.

Of all the Trump alternatives, Howard Schultz is the only one with 'crossover appeal." Crossover appeal is what got Trump elected. All of the female D candidates are giving the finger to crossover appeal and some of them even foster race baiting. In that sense, they are damaging the American political landscape by accelerating polarization.

Is it fair to say that the Democrat Party now openly endorses the most failed and murderous economic philosophy in history, and disavows itself from the only one that has raised millions from poverty, class, racial, and gender discrimination, while creating the greatest advances in human history, which socialist nations have mostly had to steal to enjoy themselves?

What is truely sad is that the American people will actually have a tough time choosing between the two. Thank you, educators. Well done.

Texas Rep. Michael Burgess' reasoning: "Those who pay taxes should have a voice in our Democracy."

All those who pay sales tax (including children and illegals) do have a voice in Democracy: They help decide what the market bears. Those who pay little to no Federal tax should have little to no voice in Federal elections. Those who pay little to no State tax should have little to no voice in State elections.

bagoh20 said...

Even young children pay sales taxes, and taxes taken from the breadwinners in family are taken from that whole family. Everybody pays taxes directly or indirectly, even the unborn. Voting age could be reduced to the first trimester.

bagoh20 said...

Then again almost half the country pays no effective tax. I would personally love a system that limits voting to just those who effectively pay their share of taxes (less than half the country). Paying your fair share is paying tax equivalent to the total of all personal taxes collected divided by the population.

Kamala-Supporter-of-Socialism needs explain what she means by saying "easy to change" since she put thousands in prison for their behavior. If behavior is "easy to change", she should have changed it rather than letting crime rage on and putting people in crowded basty prisons for avoidable conduct.

But, maybe, she would say that new research, not available to her when she was the DA has shown that behavior is easy to change.

New research by a certain group of behavior geneticists suggests that human behavior is genetically based but changeable because genetics causes behavior differences by chemical differences. Change the chemistry and bam!, "nature" changes. In short, drugs. This type of "behavior change" is the new eugenics I'm always bringing up. Socialism of an American or national type and eugenics, national socialism and eugenics, hmmm, will that really be easy? Is that what she means?

Sanders is a very appropriate leader for the Democrats. He's managed to get wealthy without ever having a real job, got kicked out of a commune for being too lazy, even for a bunch of hippies, and never accomplished anything during his long career in politics, yet he decries the success of people who built things and worked hard to get what they have . He is the prototypical socialist leader like Maduro, Castro, and every other one of the totalitarian assholes. He's central casting's Democrat leader. The only thing missing is he didn't sleep with the right people to get his advantages, but that wasn't really an option for him. Instead, he used his political position to provide the happy endings.
