"It was kind of obvious that there was an attraction — from his part to me."

I haven't watched the whole thing. That quote happens in the first 2 minutes. We had to pause to laugh a lot. Meade went into an extended comic rant in which Trump's penis was likened to a divining rod...

ADDED: I really don't have the patience to sit through the whole video, so let me snag a few quotes from the NPR article, because there is something I want to say if I can find my way to it:
Once, she said, he even took her to the apartment in Trump Tower that he lived in with his wife and their young son, Barron. "Aren't you afraid to bring me here?"

"They won't say anything," Trump supposedly said. He showed her around the "very gold" apartment and pointed out Melania's room saying, "she likes to get away to read."... "Doing something wrong is bad enough and when you're doing something wrong and you're in the middle of somebody else's home or bed or whatever, that just puts a little stab in your heart," she said.

Even worse was actually meeting Melania and posing for a picture with her, Trump and a handful of McDougal's Playboy Playmate colleagues, she said. McDougal conceded it's possible Melania knew about the Playmate's dalliance with Trump. Still, she said she was very happy throughout the romance. She said she loved Trump and that he loved her. He told her so "all the time" and had several pet names for her, including "baby" and "beautiful Karen."...

McDougal claimed she was not aware that Trump allegedly had other paramours while they were involved, including adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who says she also had a fling with Trump. Stormy, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is also suing to be able to tell her story.

"I thought I was the only one," McDougal admitted, adding that "it makes sense. If he's doing it behind his wife's back why would he not do it behind my back?"

In the end, McDougal said she was overwhelmed by guilt and fear that the affair would become public.
Where is that guilt and fear now? Why is she being disloyal to a man she said she loved, who never seems to have done her any harm? She says she felt bad because of Melania — I guess that she was abetting adultery and also that she knew all along she couldn't be Trump's only woman.
"The excitement took over for a while but I started feeling so bad about myself. ... It was tearing me apart in the long run. I knew I needed to get out," she said.
If she really is the kind of person who felt all of that, why is she the kind of person who sits for this hour-long interview, publicizing the very intimacies she feared would be exposed?
[She said she] felt a deep sense of loyalty to Trump both as a former lover but also as a Republican. "I voted for the president. That's my party. That's my president!" she said....
So what happened? She says, "I almost feel violated. I feel taken advantage of... I feel like the contract was illegal, I was lied to and I want to share my truth. I want my life rights back."

She apologizes to Melania:
"I'm sorry," she said choking back tears. "I wouldn't want it done to me."
Would you want this Anderson Cooper interview done to you?
"I know it's a wrong thing to do but in those days I was a different girl. I had fun. I was in the Playboy scene," she explained.
Why is doing a 1-hour interview about your affair with the woman's husband the right thing to do? You're hurting her again, and you are hurting the child, Barron. What's the explanation? It doesn't make sense to me unless she is in league with anti-Trump forces or she just wants to make more money.
"I'm going to church. I'm involved in ministry," she said.
Point me to the religious text that justifies getting out of a contract so you can talk publicly about your affair with a married man and humiliate the man's wife and child?

Why is this canard passable in any intelligent discussion?

Bill Clinton had consensual sex with Monica Lewinski, and Gennifer Flowers and Eleanor Mondale and maybe Markie Post and Dolly Kyle Browning and Patricia Duff and a couple dozen others.

And, there are a handful of credible claims that Clinton had abusive sexual relations with other women. Paula Jones; Juanita Broaddrick; Kathleen Willey. A few others in addition.

And then there's Trump. On his third marriage; a self acknowledged adulterer. Consensual affairs with a number of women, like Clinton. And about 14 claims that Trump had abusive sexual relations with other women.

As well as Trump's own recorded statement about "You can grab 'em by the pussy..."

What Bill did matters a lot. Is Trump having an affair with an intern and a cigar now?

Here's Bill's list and it includes a lot of non-consensual. Not that it matters to you, Chuck.

Eileen Wellstone, 19-year-old English woman who said Clinton sexually assaulted her after she met him at a pub near the Oxford where the future President was a student in 1969. A retired State Department employee, who asked not to be identified, confirmed that he spoke with the family of the girl and filed a report with his superiors. Clinton admitted having sex with the girl, but claimed it was consensual. The victim's family declined to pursue the case;
• In 1972, a 22-year-old woman told campus police at Yale University that she was sexually assaulted by Clinton, a law student at the college. No charges were filed, but retired campus policemen contacted by Capitol Hill Blue confirmed the incident. The woman, tracked down by Capitol Hill Bluelast week, confirmed the incident, but declined to discuss it further and would not give permission to use her name;
• In 1974, a female student at the University of Arkansas complained that then-law school instructor Bill Clinton tried to prevent her from leaving his office during a conference. She said he groped her and forced his hand inside her blouse. She complained to her faculty advisor who confronted Clinton, but Clinton claimed the student ''came on'' to him. The student left the school shortly after the incident. Reached at her home in Texas, the former student confirmed the incident, but declined to go on the record with her account. Several former students at the University have confirmed the incident in confidential interviews and said there were other reports of Clinton attempting to force himself on female students;
Broaddrick, a volunteer in Clinton's gubernatorial campaign, said he raped her in 1978. Mrs. Broaddrick suffered a bruised and torn lip, which she said she suffered when Clinton bit her during the rape;
• From 1978-1980, during Clinton's first term as governor of Arkansas, state troopers assigned to protect the governor were aware of at least seven complaints from women who said Clinton forced, or attempted to force, himself on them sexually. One retired state trooper said in an interview that the common joke among those assigned to protect Clinton was "who's next?". One former state trooper said other troopers would often escort women to the governor's hotel room after political events, often more than one an evening;
Carolyn Moffet, a legal secretary in Little Rock in 1979, said she met then-governor Clinton at a political fundraiser and shortly thereafter received an invitation to meet the governor in his hotel room. "I was escorted there by a state trooper. When I went in, he was sitting on a couch, wearing only an undershirt. He pointed at his penis and told me to suck it. I told him I didn't even do that for my boyfriend and he got mad, grabbed my head and shoved it into his lap. I pulled away from him and ran out of the room."

It doesn't humiliate Melania so much as give her leverage for a better deal.

Trump may decide fuck it, don't let the door hit you etc.

The woman's initial goal is to show her friends what a good deal she made for herself, but her partner has to show he thinks he's made a good deal too for that to work.

Then the woman goes for the second-best deal.

Or decides to go with her vows and find she's happy with that. That's a break from the initial goal.

Love isn't a feeling.

Elizabeth Ward, the Miss Arkansas who won the Miss America crown in 1982, told friends she was forced by Clinton to have sex with him shortly after she won her state crown. Last year, Ward, who is now married with the last name of Gracen (from her first marriage), told an interviewer she did have sex with Clinton but said it was consensual. Close friends of Ward, however, say she still maintains privately that Clinton forced himself on her.
Paula Corbin, an Arkansas state worker, filed a sexual harassment case against Clinton after an encounter in a Little Rock hotel room where the then-governor exposed himself and demanded oral sex. Clinton settled the case with Jones recently with an $850,000 cash payment.
Sandra Allen James, a former Washington, DC, political fundraiser says Presidential candidate-to-be Clinton invited her to his hotel room during a political trip to the nation's capital in 1991, pinned her against the wall and stuck his hand up her dress. She says she screamed loud enough for the Arkansas State Trooper stationed outside the hotel suite to bang on the door and ask if everything was all right, at which point Clinton released her and she fled the room. When she reported the incident to her boss, he advised her to keep her mouth shut if she wanted to keep working. Miss James has since married and left Washington. Reached at her home last week, the former Miss James said she later learned that other women suffered the same fate at Clinton's hands when he was in Washington during his Presidential run.
Christy Zercher, a flight attendant on Clinton's leased campaign plane in 1992, says Presidential candidate Clinton exposed himself to her, grabbed her breasts and made explicit remarks about oral sex. A video shot on board the plane by ABC News shows an obviously inebriated Clinton with his hand between another young flight attendant's legs. Zercher said later in an interview that White House attorney Bruce Lindsey tried to pressure her into not going public about the assault.
Kathleen Willey, a White House volunteer, reported that Clinton grabbed her, fondled her breast and pressed her hand against his genitals during an Oval Office meeting in November, 1993. Willey, who told her story in a 60 Minutes interview, became a target of a White House-directed smear campaign after she went public.

I think women who come out later and cry about hurting the wife because they screwed around with her husband are just malicious and looking to rub it in. As if Melania would want their sympathy, their apology, and they know that, they're just being vicious because it's all they have, a sordid tale of lust and betrayal. Melania has wife status. And (hopefully) a really good prenup. He may have screwed you but he married her. It is (almost) always better to be the wife and not the occasional bit of strange on the side. Yeah, I'm thinking the Christian thing to do would be to take it up with the person and/or his wife. Not publicly air it.

"If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' 17If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector."

Mathew 18:15-17

"Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. 4Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, 5for each one should carry their own load."

Galatians 6:1-5

and Proverbs has numerous mentions about gossip.

"A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much."

"A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret."

"A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends."

"The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts."

"Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down."

So we have a playmate of the year willingly, hell eagerly, having sex with a famous billionaire who she knew was a serial philander. Maybe she thought she was in line to be his fourth wife?

On another angle, this interview is exactly the sort of thing Tom Wolfe would have invented, not that he needs to. He would have Althouse's take on it, that its part of the complex confection of irony, hypocrisy and delusion of the Trump moment. The sort of thing Tom Wolfe specializes in. Everything about Trump is a Tom Wolfe novel, but dramatized in real life.

The clueless woman lamenting her sins while in the act of redoubling them, in public. That is Wolfe.

The larger problem is that lawyers have found it good for business to prevail upon government to believe that people are served by being able to enter government-enforceable contracts about almost anything, no matter how ridiculous, enslaving, or freedom-of-speech reducing the contracts be. The same remarks apply to banks being able to lend money recklessly to people lacking collateral, etc., and then expecting the government to enforce the contract (as well as insuring the bank even if it keeps little capital). If a man tends to attract a female who believes in being indiscreet, people ought to know that--it says something bad about the females he attracts and thus about him, as is just--it is justice that they hurt one another thus by making each other look bad. Alternatively, if a female as she gets older (and perhaps less enslaved by nastiness) comes to see something sordid about what had happened with a male, people ought to know about that, if for no other reason than that other females can become more wary of him if her tale is believable.

The whole statement is:

"I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it, you can do anything... grab them by the pussy."

I think the "They let you" indicates consent. First, I don't know whether or not Trump meant he went up to random women, and they let him grab them by the pussy, or whether that was a kind of speculation from his amazement of how much leeway being a star gave you. I'm inclined to think of it as a sort of amazement/bragging.

However, why does everyone focus on Trump in this? He is, after all, a male of the species, and what male wouldn't want to be in the position in which many women were open to his advances? (On the other hand, testosterone levels are plummeting in the west over the last 70 years or so, so maybe we men are less men than we used to be).

The statement tells us more about women. It tells us how much weight women give to powerful male strangers, and how open they are to their sexual advances. Not the pretty girl next door who falls in love image, and so we detest it.

I think one reason we detest it, is because it's true.

Trump and Clinton have a very similar sexual history, to a degree, though the Clintonian taste in women is rather less refined and the Clintonian style is much more coarse. I don't see Trump using State Troopers to solicit sex on his behalf, from government clerks.

@Chuck,

I offer myself as a bridge between you and the class of ignorant shit heads on this blog. Heh. Think of me as the Boutros-Boutros Ghali of the commentariat.

You write:

"There's a Wikipedia page, cataloguing the allegations of sexual misconduct on the pat of Bill Clinton."

But it isn't a "quantitative" inquiry when discussing rape. One violent rape warrants arrest, conviction, 10 years in prison, and publicity re same.

In 1978, as Arkansas Attorney General, Bill Clinton raped Juanita Broaderick. It was covered up. End of inquiry.

You write: "And there's one for Trump, too. Trump's list is longer."

Yeah, I read them. They are broad, but not very deep. There's no claims of rape. Many are based on Trump walking into the Miss Universe dressing room un-announced. The horror! Here's a typical one:

NAME: Temple Taggart

TIME FRAME: 1997

CONNECTION TO TRUMP: Former Miss Utah, 21 in 1997, the first year Trump owned Miss USA.

ALLEGATION: According to the New York Times, Taggart said:

"He kissed me directly on the lips. I thought: 'Oh, my gosh. Gross.' He was married to Marla Maples at the time. I think there were a few other girls that he kissed on the mouth. I was like, 'Wow, that's inappropriate.' "

She told the Times that he did it again after the pageant:

"At the gala celebration after the show, she said, Mr. Trump immediately zeroed in on her, telling her how much he liked her style and inviting her to visit him in New York to talk about her future. Soon enough, she said, he delivered another unwelcome kiss on her lips, this time in Trump Tower."

WHAT TRUMP HAS SAID: Per the Times: "Mr. Trump disputes this, saying he is reluctant to kiss strangers on the lips." He also told NBC this week, "I emphatically deny this ridiculous claim."

An unwanted kiss on the lips 20 years ago?!!?

My favorite is the one where a woman claims that at a dark nightclub, Trump touched her on the butt.

These are trivial, old, unprovable, charges. The show that Trump was likely a bit grabby as a younger man. Not a good thing, mind you, but when you're a star........

Flashback to the past, what Donald Trump thinks of Bill Clinton.

Days after President Clinton admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, Trump said Clinton was a “victim” and critiqued the physical appearances of various women with whom Clinton had been accused of having extramarital relations at different times.

“It’s like it's from hell, it's a terrible group of people,” Trump said in an interview with FOX News' Neil Cavuto on Aug. 19, 1998.

Asked by Cavuto if Clinton’s image as a “quasi-sex symbol” stood to somehow benefit from the alleged extramarital relations, Trump took issue with the characterization.

“I don't necessarily agree with his victims, his victims are terrible,” Trump said. “He is really a victim himself. But he put himself in that position.”

“The whole group, Paula Jones, Lewinsky, it's just a really unattractive group. I'm not just talking about physical," he said.

“Would it be any different if it were a supermodel crowd?” Cavuto then asked.

“I think at least it would be more pleasant to watch,” Trump replied.

Trump suggested that Clinton could have avoided the public relations fallout that followed his admission of "inappropriate" relations with Lewinsky had he stayed silent on the topic altogether, rather than initially denying the reports of an sexual relations only to later admit to a relationship.

“It's a shame, it's really a shame,” Trump said. “I've watched all my life politicians in New York, something gets brought up on them. I don't talk about my personal life. So what are you going to do? I don't talk about personal life.”

“They've taken nothing and made it a big monster,” Trump said in reference to the Lewinsky scandal. “I mean they've made Watergate out of really what should've been nothing.”

“I don't know if that's a good thing in terms of what Starr has done or a terrible thing, I think it's a terrible thing, actually,” Trump added, presumably referring to the former Whitewater independent counsel who expanded his investigation into the Lewinsky affair.

As far as his personal opinion of Clinton, Trump gave Clinton a strong rating.

“I think he's terrific. I think the guy's terrific. I just hate the way he tried to get out of this mess,” Trump said.

“In terms of myself, I love him as a president because business has been great, the economy's been booming. We have to give him credit,” he said.

As an aside, "scumbag" was the slang term for condoms way back when. "scum" = "come" + "bag" = But I digress.

The issue is NOT whether Clinton and Trump are both scumbags in the eyes of Chuck.

It is more nuanced.

The issue is whether Clinton is a rapist, who had the entire machinery of the Dem Party and major media cover-it up. Answer: yes.

The next issue is whether that same machinery is being employed to target Trump on far lesser charges. Answer: yes.

So, I am merely pointing out that the current "Get Trump" Squad had an earlier incarnation as the "Protect Clinton" Squad.

That helps frame the actual evidence we see from the likes of Ms. McDougal, Ms. Stormy Daniels, and all these other attractive, and helpless young woman.

Donald Trump was accused of rape (in addition to other gradations of sexual assault) by his ex-wife Ivanka Trump. In sworn testimony. She recanted it, in conjunction with her divorce settlement. But before that, she testified that way, under oath, and used the word "rape," and described circumstances that would have amounted to rape.

Why is doing a 1-hour interview about your affair with the woman's husband the right thing to do? You're hurting her again, and you are hurting the child, Barron. What's the explanation? It doesn't make sense to me unless she is in league with anti-Trump forces or she just wants to make more money.

Confession is a powerful antidote to guilt. She is apparently trying to change her lifestyle. She's been the target of media gossip that paints her in a very bad light, and by telling her story (confession) she hopes to show that she's not a bad person. She did a bad thing, but she thought she did it for love. She has a conscience and wrestled with the damage she was doing to Trump's marriage. She realizes now the full import of her sin and she apologizes in public, because the stories about her are very public. She wants us to know she is not a bad person, and a public confession is the only way (she thinks) to rebuild her reputation. It doesn't literally follow any Christian text, but if she's sincere, it is a very Christian act of confession and repentance.

I agree, though, that in attempting to repair her own reputation she has caused great pain to Melania and Baron. She should have gone to Melania personally, privately, and then ridden out the media pressures in silence. Hard to do, though.

There is a legitimate story here, but it is not about Trump and McDougal except as exemplars of how our cultural norms have collapsed and we don't have clue what constitutes right behavior any more. This sould just as easily have been about Bill Clinton and Paula Jones or Kathleen Willey, or... At least Trump didn't kill her like Ted Kennedy did to Kopechne, or forcibly rape her like Clinton did to Broadrick. So McDougal had an affair with a man she knew was married, in the home he shared with his wife and daughter, which in a sane world would be shameful for both of them, but somehow she becomes a heroine for ratting out the man and holding his wife and child up to embarrassment?

I do not absolve Trump for his immoral (quaint word) behavior, but this is insane except as a political assault, and is evil in any case.

This rot was apparent to anyone who ever saw even 5 minutes of the Jerry Springer Show, 10-15 yrs ago. Or even some of Dr. Phil's segments on Oprah. The idea of such perversity being "entertaining"... well, ugh!

I never wrote that. What I wrote in the fall of 2016 is that the good work of grass roots Republicans had set up an invulnerable majority in the House, thanks in large part to state-level Republican redistricting.

And I predicted, almost to the number, that Republicans would hold the Senate with 52 to 54 votes as a majority.

I predicted that Trump would lose in a landslide only because my personal loathing of him was such that I could not imagine any swing voters voting for him. I expected Trump to be beaten so badly in the women's vote, and I never expected that black turnout would be as dismal as it was. Before the election, I called Hillary the worst Democrat nominee since Al Smith.

Later, Ms. Daniels indicates that Mr. Trump ejaculated on her blouse. Robert Mueller finds out and subpoenas all her clothing for DNA testing. He finds 437 different DNA samples and requests another $100 million for testing. The DNC/MSM complex demands a special appropriations bill to fund the request. Testing does not show any Trump DNA because he knows how to control himself in that regard, maybe not in other regards, but ...

"Some comments here about William Jefferson Clinton and women. What's that all about?"

Seems appropriate. The Clintons are masters of the "Everyone does it" defense that elides key differences.

Presidents having affairs? Hey, did you hear General Eisenhower may have had an affair with his driver Mrs. Summersby? And what about Livingston and Gingrich?

E-mailing government business from personal accounts? Secretary Powell, you're on the air.

First major party candidate under FBI investigation? Hey, FBI, we're hearing some really disturbing rumors you might want to look into.

And now Trump, who as Inga points out supported and admired Bill Clinton, is the guy who drives the other side crazy, demanding to know where the outrage is.

"You, all right? I learned it by watching you!"

JFK, LBJ, Slick Willy, Teddy, reputedly GHWB, all philanders who used the power of their offices to seduce, or worse.

Trump was a private citizen who evidently attracted women with money. Whores abide. Big deal!

LLR Chuck is starting to panic that perhaps, just perhaps, all the dem/lefty attacks on Trump regarding his relationships is simply not going to be enough to get over the impeachment hump.

And with the total collapse of the dem/lefty hoax collusion charge and the apparent reality that AG Sessions did indeed, quietly, appoint an actual non-DC based DOJ prosecutor to work hand in glove with the Inspector General, the dem/lefty/LLR Chuck fever dream of Muh Mueller! is not going to get there.

Further, per the DOJ statement from yesterday, it's also apparent that non-DC based prosecutor has empaneled a Grand Jury. Yikes. That's not going to help the deep staters. At all.

No wonder all of LLR Chuck's beloved deep state coup plotters have been so very quiet (Rybicki, Priestap, Strzok, Page, both Ohr's, Baker, etc.)

And that Flynn charge isn't going to survive the barest scrutiny.

So now LLR Chuck and his lefty operational allies are left to the gal narratives.

Hence, LLR Chuck's rather sad performance today.

Drago said...

I find the lefty lunatic Inga/LLR Chuck alliance to be both utterly predictable and, really, quite adorable.

Those 2 kids make a great operationally aligned couple. And I congratulate them.

It's not often one finds one's political soulmate at such a late date in the arc of one's life.

Chuck Channeling Schumer: “Question: Did Althouse ever comment on Trump's having invited the Clinton accusers (Jones, Willey, Broaddrick) to the October '16 campaign townhall debate? Didn't Trump try to use his own event-allocated VIP box, for purposes of seating them?”

Is it really possible that you don’t see the difference?

Drago said...

hombre: "Is it really possible that you don’t see the difference?"

The left and LLR Chuck NEED you to not see any difference in order to advance the lefty narrative of the day.

Hence #StrongDemDefender Chucks comments.

And if it is possible to minimize that which Bill Clinton has already been found legally culpable, well that's just gravy for Vichy Chuck.

An interesting point, in various commentaries on the Catholic rite of exorcism (such as Malachi Martin's), a warning not to engage in conversation with the entity. As the evil spirit will, in the struggle against the rite, throw the exorcists own sins at him.

We are all sinners and so cannot, ever, do battle against evil as its opposite.

It was neither involuntary nor superior exploitation, therefore it is not a first-order societal concern. Adultery is a religious/moral issue, between the adulterer and God, between the adulterer and spouse. Today, religion or morality is a matter of progressive or declining interest, other than to exploit for political or social leverage. The anti-Christians are not only targeting Trump, but hope to lay a trap so that that they may, once again, call the deplorables bigots (i.e. sanctimonious hypocrites).

That said, distinguishing between involuntary, superior, and consensual relationships is not Pro-Choice (i.e. selective, opportunistic, congruent), but it is religious/moral, rational, and practical.

What troubles me here is that, along with the already political pollution of the courts by Democrats the DNC/MSM is now enabling these bimbos as they shred contractual rights. Not that I am opposed to hypocritical lawyers being hoisted on their own petards, but our survival does seem tied to being a nation of laws.

This is nothing new.

LLR Chuck's "magnificent" obama won a couple of offices in part by getting some dem operatives in judges robes to violate agreements.

It sounds like McDougal either lacks agency, or she made a Choice, she pursued pleasure, she pursued wealth... she progressed? she regrets?

The law (the legal process) is a system of rituals overlaid on a cultural consensus.
When that consensus breaks down the laws become irrelevant.
That's why "Silent enim leges inter arma".
No matter what the belligerents pretend.

Chuck said...

Drago you keep asserting that I somehow thought, or think that Obama was, or is, “magnificent.”

Once again, I think you are misquoting or, more likely, mischaracterizing me. I really don’t know what it is that you are stalking me with this time. I don’t think much of Obama. Nothing, that is, like our hostess Ann Althouse,

I’ve asked you to quote me and link to the context before on this. I don’t think you’ve ever backed it up.

When I hear the sexual allegations made against Trump, I see him as Richard Dawson of Family Feud game. Richard was hugging and kissing on all the ladies, and I see Trump in the same mold.

#StrongDemDefender Chuck: "Drago you keep asserting that I somehow thought, or think that Obama was, or is, “magnificent.”

"magnificent" is a word you used to describe obama.

"brilliant" is a word you used to describe Maddow.

You do that alot. Then deny it. You probably consider yourself a "subtle" pusher of lefty narratives.

LOL. Not so much.

Just another "day in the life" for LLR Chuck.

Althouse has an interesting feminist sense to always find the angle that blames the woman. Where's the feminism in the sensibility that giving this interview works to "humiliate the man's wife and child." It is humiliating to Donald Trump, that's my sensibility.

Claiming the woman is humiliated doesn't blame the woman but rather frames her as the victim.

I wonder if Karen is pissed because Stormy got a more lucrative settlement. That doesn't seem fair. Karen was a Playmate of theYear whilst Stormy was just a porn star. Lese majeste. I think I can reassure her on that point. The fact that she received less money than Stormy is in no way reflective of her value as a human being. It is, somewhat parodoxically, rather more an indication of her superior worth vis a vis Stormy. As scandals go, it's not all that shocking that a guy who married a fashion model would hanker after a centerfold model. Karen was in the kosher part of the garden of delights. Stormy was in the low rent area and, precisely because of that, her scandal was worth more.......The final reckoning has not been made. Karen was a far more discreet about revealing salacious details than Stormy. Perhaps she'll get more money for the book deal and movie rights than Stormy......My gut tells me that Stormy might have a more interesting story, but that movie producers might be hesitant about telling it. Karen's story can readily be fit into the Lifetime movie proscenium. I think ultimately Karen will make the better haul, but the story has had some surprising turns.

I voted for Trump. None of this makes me regret my vote. However, if the stock market keeps tanking, I say impeach his ass. My loyalty to Trump is at about the same level as that of Karen and Stormy.

Gee, William, you want to impeach the sitting president because of the stock market's recent decline? You do know, do you not, that the DOW was below 19000 the day after Trump was elected? But you want to file articles of impeachment against the president because of ....what? What exactly?

Just a hunch, here, but I do not think you voted for Trump and I do not think you know what you are talking about.

But, peace, and good luck as you navigate the ups and downs of the financial markets.

William said...

I did vote for a Trump. His first year was successful, and I don't regret my vote. Maybe he's proposing the higher tariffs with China to stake out a bargaining position and maybe all will come right in the end. I certainly hope so, and I don't think it's beyond his skill set. If it all gangs agly, however, I'll abandon ship. My attraction and commitment to Trump is no deeper than was that of Stormy.

William said...

I did put some money in the market after Trump was elected, so I demonstrably know more about the market than some Nobel Prize. wInning economists.

Michael said...

William

OK, but why the impeachment bullshit tied to the market? Do you really and truly believe that impeaching "his ass" is a mature or studied response to anything other than his love life? Is that your real beef with him? Or do you believe the market is going to zero because of his tariff talk? Would like a little color on your desire for impeachment. I find that those who utter the word or honestly think it a viable option are unhinged and only a moment away from typing in all caps.

The level of hubris JFK had led him to bonk Mafia molls and unstable Hollywood celebrities. That same hubris led him to committing American forces to Vietnam and overthrowing the Diem government. He, nonetheless, attracted and continues to attract love and devotion from his admirers......I don't think Trump has screwed up yet, but his past life leads me to believe that he is quite capable of a massive screw up. Less than that of Hillary, of course, but still massive.

William said...

No, I don't think Trump should be impeached because of past sexual misalliances. It was a joke. I do, however, think that drowning campaign volunteers is cause for impeachment. I certainly hope he doesn't do that.

Scott Adams today very calmly called Anderson Cooper a "fucking piece of shit" for being part of this "Special". This is not like him. It was in the middle of his morning Periscope you can watch from twitter, and he made a persuasive case, essentially calling cooper a "bitch" that sexually abused Melania Trump in public with this gratuitous production.

May we all survive this "by any means necessary" Coup.

Well Drago now I know you are mischaracterizing me because I never generalized that Rachel Maddow was “brilliant.” You know better, and you’re misleading these readers and I know that you’re doing it deliberately because I’ve called you out on this before. You know very well that I said I was no fan or admirer of Maddow but that one interview that she did with Kellyanne Conway was “brilliant” in part for the questions, and in part for Conway’s adroit answers. I thought that Conway was demolished in the end but not for lack of skill on her part. It was because Conway was having to answer for Trump in the way that Trump can’t and usually won’t.

I wrote all of that when the interview aired.

Months later, the Emmys were announced and that particular interview won in its news category. (Outstanding Live Interview.) The whole industry thought it was “brilliant,” obviously, as I had written here on the Althouse comments pages long before any Emmy nominations were contemplated.

There’s never been another time where I complimented Rachel Maddow, much less having generally praised her as “brilliant” the way that you implied here.

So now these readers know what a despicable little liar you are and how you tried to twist my words. You weird, sick cyber-stalker.
