If Roy Moore wins, says David Brooks, Republicans are "for a generation...repulsive" and "repulsive to people of color forever."

Brooks gets awfully grandiose and contemptuous (on "Meet the Press" today), especially at the end when he tells Republicans "you end up, not only making yourself unpopular but sort of corrupting a piece of yourself... There is no end to what they are going to be asked to tolerate, and that is just, internally, so corrosive."

Does a win by Roy Moore really mean all that? Why can't it just mean that the voters of Alabama — deprived of these allegations (about old events) until after the primary — were stuck with a choice between a particular, possibly morally flawed Republican who would represent them in Congress by voting for the policies they want and a Democrat who might be less morally flawed but would vote against the policies they want, and they voted according to their policy choices and not as a judgment on the morality of the man?

If Roy Moore's opponent wins, I would expect Democrats to exult at the fabulous new political opportunity and even to laugh openly at the Alabamans (who will be on the receiving end of contempt no matter what they do).

And I do not believe that after this election there's going to be any great shift to voting based on which candidate is more moral. I watched the Sunday shows this morning. All that cheesy emoting in the Theater of Sanctimony. Such scenery chewing! Especially by Brooks.

Isn't he too a sinner?

Buwaya, I suspect the media has not because their ranks are filled with pervs as well. does anybody think Lauer was the only one?

Matthew Dowd of CNN who loves to denounce the religious right and hold himself up as a paragon of Christianity on Twitter, had an affair with Maria Shriver when she was still married to Arnold. now, having an affair with a married woman does not mean one is a perv, but it rather disqualifies Dowd from holding forth as an arbiter of "True Christianity."

This Hastings fellow appears to be very crafty:

Wiki shows he has three kids with his last name but no listed mother. Uh..ok.

H. Milk was doing pretty much what Seattle's mayor Ed Murray was into. Same MO, same ignore by the local MSM and police for decades, in spite of social welfare and police reports.

In Murrays case it broke open through an individuals civil suit. If Milk had survived (being shot, and AIDs), its likely that he would have eventually been outed.

Milk and Murray and Barney Frank are actually of a common type. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop re Frank, in spite of apparently large payoffs.

I am reminding people that sexual harrassment is perpetrated by both conservative and liberal alike.

That wasn't the question Unknown0164. The question was "Has either party ever elected a man to Congress who had been credibly accused of molestimg children?" The examples you mention were all subsequently defeated.

I really don't care who candidates stuck their dicks in 30 or 40 years ago, I give a shit if they vote the way I would. Policy and power matter, especially for the last 100 years as the Federal Gov engulfs more and more control of our lives.

Am I the only one who sees this coming? Moore wins, is certified by the Sec. of State of AL as the winner, then delivers a letter of resignation/refusal to take oath of office to the Governor, who then appoints Mo Brooks. GOP gets the seat, with a popular interim Senator who can in easily in Nov. 2018. Moore looks statesman-like, and may get something out of it.

Is that how it would work? Sounds good on paper.

Yes.

Moore looks guilty, and the Dems would be sure to say over and over that his resignation was an admission of guilt. They would never just leave it alone.

I've heard the term "people of color" multiple times... Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, I am a new guy here, English is a second language for me... When you use the term "people of color" - what specific color do you have in mind? I am a Russian Jew - am I a "person of color"? I sure do have color - but is it the right color, or the wrong color?

Most likely Moore will win. That we aren't sure he will win is amazing, because Republicans should win that seat by about 700,000 votes.. That's almost 3/4th of a million people that Moore's problems have put into play. There's a lot of great people that could have been nominated in Alabama, but the GOP didn't go in another direction."

Bullshit. Moore had a primary challenge, and his challenger had the backing of the GOP. His nomination is work of the citizens of Alabama.

Really, there's a LOT of great people the Alabama GOP could have nominated. This didn't have to happen

You can do better than that.

Bama had three choices, and picked Moore before any allegations were published.

I know this is a dead horse, but there is no such word as "Alabaman." Born there, grew up there, both sides of my family go back the better part of two centuries there (much longer if you count the Cherokee on my mom's side), and the correct term is "Alabamian."

Wait! What? Honda has a plant in Talladega and they do not run at NASCAR? Oh, well, the Talladega Speedway is actually 14 miles north of the town. So never mind.

Well, the Talladega plant builds Honda Odyssey minivans, the Pilot SUV, and the Ridgeline pickup truck. Those aren't exactly the kind of vehicles you normally see at NASCAR events. Of the rest of their lineup, the biggest car Honda makes is probably the Accord. I doubt you could stuff a big enough engine into an Accord to make it competitive while complying with the NASCAR rules.

Didn't the Democrat run ads sympathetic to the Confederacy in Alabama?

In the runoff:
Moore - 262,204 (54.6%)
Strange - 218,066 (45.4%)
Total votes were just 480,270.

The 44,000 people who put Moore over the top in the nomination runoff would not even comprise a top-10 population city in Alabama. It would be about the population of Florence, AL.

It is absolutely true, to observe that Moore will not win the sort of victory that virtually any normal Republican would win in Alabama. That's not "bullshit;" it is the absolute truth.

Generally it means everyone but White people.

This goes back to the idea of separating the good art from the bad artist. If someone is found to be a bad person, but made good films, should the art be flushed along with the artist? The voters are considering sending Roy Moore to legislate for them, not hit on teenage girls for them. (Also, the age of consent in Alabama is only 16. This may not be that big a deal to them.)

I guess like the idea of a truly free society is repulsive to the "liberal" Hive and its "Uncle Daves." (My nickname for ostensible conservatives who remain subservient to the Plantation).
