Trump carries out the annual nonsense, pardoning turkeys.

I love when Trump asks if he can touch the bird and then, petting it, says "I feel so good about myself doing this." That almost gets a smile from Barron.

Who started this nonsense? (Goes to look) Reagan.

Baron doesn't look very comfortable standing there, but I think Trump requires that he be there. I know my Dad would have done the same thing, and I would have looked like little Trump.

Just once I'd like to see someone pull a King Joffrey and lop its head off anyway.

I am guessing here, but my supposition is that "Thanksgiving turkeys" may not make the Top Ten List of Most Ridiculous Trump Presidential Pardons when all is said and done.

I recall how sour and sullen the two Obama girls looked during one of these annoying but harmless Thanksgiving rituals.

We'll file it under ,"Accidental Leftist" Chucks Rock Solid Predictions, right next to the 2016 General Election folder.

We were hoping he would do a Lizzie Borden on it.

Just to give Inga something else to talk about.

It's not "annual nonsense" if you are a turkey.

Barron sure looked like he was having a great time though!

One turkey whacked is a tragedy.
46 Million turkeys whacked is a statistic.
Making fun of obama while pardoning a turkey is impeachable.

Drago said...

Unknown: "Barron sure looked like he was having a great time though!"

Thats because he's done alot less smoking weed and drinking underage, unlike the obamas.

I guess that's what you do when you plan on interning for Harvey Weinstein.

This! Which Turkey will he pardon next, my guess is Donald Jr.

I would say it's not nonsense, period. Every culture and society needs light-hearted traditions to sustain itself. Can't be serious and political all the time, you cynics:)

Drago! WOOT WOOT!

What a shocking coincidence that lefty inga and LLR Chuck are completely on the same wavelength!

What an amazing, astonishing, unbelievable coincidence!

Drago said...

AllenS: "Drago! WOOT WOOT!"

Thanks Army!

Drago said...

Speaking of which, what did Malia obama see while interning for Weinstein, and how is it that the obamas and the secret service did not know what those Hollywood heroes of Inga and Chuck were up to?

Maybe LLR Chuck could call for getting those guys under oath since actual crimes were committed?

LOL

As if.

I thought Barron almost cracked a smile when Trump said he'd had a lot of strange birds at the White House. I thought him a good sport. You never know what to do with your hands during things like this.

Melania's coat looked nice, but I couldn't tell how it would work in the wind -- it's very windy here today.

Trump is a fun guy. The reaction he generates from the likes of Inga and Chuck add to the fun.

The politics of turkey pardoning is perilous. From the White House Historical Society:
White House mythmakers have claimed that President Harry S. Truman began the tradition of “pardoning” a turkey. However, the Truman Library & Museum disputes the notion that he was the first to do so. The focus on Truman stems from his being the first president to receive a turkey from the Poultry and Egg National Board and the National Turkey Federation. From September to November 1947, announcements of the government encouraging "poultryless Thursdays" grabbed national headlines. Outrage from homemakers, restaurant owners, and the poultry industry was palpable in Washington. This came to a head when the poultry industry pointed out that the upcoming Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, the three big turkey holidays, happened to fall on Thursday.. The effort was deflated in time for Thanksgiving, but not before poultry growers had sent crates of live chickens— "Hens for Harry"— to the White House in protest. The turkey they presented to President Truman that December promoted the poultry industry and established an annual news niche that endures today.

Melania is still hot.

Hillary is still not president.

Gobble, gobble.

Jaq said...

I never thought a president could be this much fun. And the fact that it's not Hillary is the cherry on top!

I would have voted against him too! I would have voted for Bernie. It would have been stupid, I can see that now, but I would have done it.

Molly said...

Madison man, since you've researched this. Did they use to send the turkey down to the kitchen, to be cooked and served for Thanksgiving? Was Jimmy Carter the last president to do this?

MadisonMan said...

Molly, I went to the wikipedia page. But that tab is closed, and I'm disinclined to repeat the search.

I assume pre-Reagan that turkeys were eaten? Or given away to the poor, or something. Maybe in Carter's case Billy got them?

Jaq said...

Wait a minute! Is "Being a turkey" a Federal crime?

Same here. Clinton's nomination forced me to vote for Trump. Barely. Thank you, Democrats!

I love the turkey pardon! Not sorry...

Bay Area Guy said...

Jeez, lotta folks in this same legion. I voted against Trump in the primary, thought he was a gimmick. But, I made a pledge to vote for ANYONE against Clinton in the general -- and that man was Trump.

And, I'm glad I did!

Gobble, Gobble.

rehajm said...

Back when we had boring stick-to-the-teleprompter Presidents the turkey pardon was a high wire act.

For the next Thanksgiving, I hope a turkey will pardon Jimmy Carter........

OR:

A stunned looking Trump stumbles into the Oval Office: "As God is my witness, I thouht I could pardon a turkey!"

If Trump empathizes with a couple of Turkeys, it shows that he is an idiot, but not the unfeeling monster people make him out to be.

Meade said...

"Is "Being a turkey" a Federal crime?"

No. Just as, say, being married to Bill Clinton, sexual harasser, is not a crime. Covering up for Bill Clinton, however, could be a crime. And subject to presidential pardon I suppose.

Of course, she'd still be a turkey.

Jaq said...

It all boils down to the fact that liberals can't stand to be the ones taking the jokes, instead of making the jokes. It's killing them. They are screaming at the sky, for God's sake.

Big Mike said...

Some day a turkey is going to crap all over a president's shoes, the pardon will be revoked on the spot, and that will be the end of the turkey-pardoning ceremony.

Barron doesn't button his jacket either. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

When you're a star, they let you do it.

In a related story, today Hillary Clinton decided which bottle in this week's case of Wild Turkey she won't pound down on Thursday.

Yeah, Barron is a low key phlegmatic boy so being the son of a president isn't a big deal.

AllenS said...

Oh, come on. Trump only asked if he could pet the turkey, because he didn't know were the pussy was to grab it. Right, Chuck?

"I am guessing here, but my supposition is that "Thanksgiving turkeys" may not make the Top Ten List of Most Ridiculous Trump Presidential Pardons when all is said and done."

I tend to think this will be correct.
The historical moment is such that the world is turned upside down.

There have been some very strange Presidential pardons already. If Trump survives it does not take a prophet to assume that some will be odd.

Trump just keeps providing reasons to be thankful this Thanksgiving.

I predict Trump will abuse the power of the pardon much less than Bill Clinton.

Barron is a very tall lad, isn't he?
Could be a mighty fellow, if he fills out.
Looks like he will surpass his brothers, in height anyway.

He'll top out at 6'7

"The turkeys weren't remorseful."

No but by accepting their pardons, they effectively acknowledge their guilt.

Michael K said...

I just hope he survives. The left is really crazy and there are enough on the right who have serious TDS to worry me.

I just hope he keeps his own security people close. I don't trust the Secret Service,

And the liberal media have been blatantly inciting the hatred. Plus, the CIA and the FBI have a long history of working to overthrow governments, they know how to do it.

The incompetence they have shown with Obama and the prostitute stories suggest they could not accomplish a wet dream.

There are lots of crazy lefties around. The idiot who jumped on the stage at Dayton the summer of 2016 was celebrated by CNN.

Larry J said...

They missed a great opportunity. Instead of pardoning the turkey, they should've named it Little Kim. Then, Secdef Mattis should've killed it in front of the cameras. After deep frying it, everyone should've enjoyed a good meal.

Michelle Dulak Thomson said...

I think it was GHWB, not Reagan, who initiated this "tradition." 1989? Prior to that, IIRC, producers shipped turkeys to the WH ... and they always got eaten.

We don't run to turkey here; we barely run to turkey breast, since there are only us two and cats. But I went down to the grocery store today looking for a duck, and ... no duck. I have sent my husband on a duck expedition. This is harsh -- he's spent twelve hours addressing parents today -- but he will be sleeping in tomorrow, and I will be up starting Thanksgiving dinner, so ya takes what ya can gets.

ISIS ordered the death of Barron Trump. Pro-ISIS propaganda pages on the internet have begun circulating the address of the school Barron attends, as well as photos of the young child and calls for his murder, according to MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute.)

Unfortunately, some on this blog would applaud that outcome.

I am in favor of continuing this practice. In future, though, I think the turkeys he is pardoning "to save them from a terrible fate" should be named "Marc" and "Rich".

Jaq said...

I always felt bad for the turkeys that had to die in their place.

Yes, the lefties that would cheer Barron's death are delusional.

The problem is that there are so many of them.

They should have named it Manafort instead before granting the pardon.
