"Racism is evil and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans."

Said Donald Trump today at the White House.

Bloomberg suggests that this as a walk-back from the much-criticized "many sides" statement Trump made on Saturday. But he's still saying "other hate groups" — which could include Antifa, and he also said:
“To anyone who acted criminally in this weekend’s racist violence, you will be held accountable,” Trump said, adding that he had just met with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Chris Wray for an update on a federal civil rights investigation into the incident.

“We must love each other, show affection for each other and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry and violence,” he added.
Anyone who acted criminally... that too would include all sides.

Note the triad — hatred, bigotry, and violence. Those are the same 3 words he put together in Saturday's "many sides" statement — "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides."

I guess clobbering peaceful demonstrators with bicycle locks wasn't hate, because, you know, everybody hates Trump supporters. So we should leave people who show up to incite violence in an otherwise peaceful, if abhorrent, demonstration out of our condemnations of violence, because reasons.

Does it really matter?

For those on the left, the Democrats, it won't be enough until he is a Democrat.

For the rest of us, well, he satisfied us on Saturday.

I wonder why we didn't see this same sort of drama when a BLM activist killed 5 cops. Did Obama come out and denounce BLM? Did the news media focus on his every word and demand he directly denounce BLM?

Like I said, it doesn't matter. The media are against Trump no matter what he does. And those of us who support him are Nazi's.

F them all.

Less than a week ago, the world seemed to be on the edge of a nuclear confrontation or at least a bloody military conflict in East Asia. What a difference a few days make. After a weekend filled with a series of conciliatory statements from China, some of them downright surprising, the situation with North Korea seems to be less tense right now, which could be construed as a major win for the Trump team. To be specific, the big move came Monday as China agreed to ban imports of North Korean iron, lead, and coal

Remember just. couple days ago Unknown's hair was on fire over the impending nuclear war? Just for the record, Unknown, your personal anxieties do not sum up to good judgement.

Repeating what I said in the other (exhausted) thread --
As for BLM, Antifa, and other extremist protesters, I think some people are giving them too much credit for principle or particular ideology.

A lot of these folks taking to the streets don't really care about the issues. They are just out for a day or night of mayhem. They are there simply in order to smash things and engage in some thrill violence. They are out there to experience their own real-life Purge. And sometimes, if they are lucky, they can get to loot too.

Many of the folks out there "counter-protesting" the neo-Nazis are also going to be out there setting fires and smashing windows if U.Va. were to win a national championship in basketball.

Much of this has nothing to do with principle, that is, actually caring about this person or that group or that issue. It is all about a chance to be a thug. It is blood sport.

"Yet despite its failure to stop Hitler in 1933 and veritable dismantling in subsequent years, Germany’s socialist labor movement and its decidedly progressive traditions outlived Hitler in the factories of its industrial cities, and began gathering up the fragments as soon as open political activity became possible. As historian Gareth Dale describes:

Of all sectors of the population, it was industrial workers in the major towns that showed the greatest immunity to Nazism. Many trade unionists and socialists were able to maintain their traditions and beliefs, at least in some form, through the Nazi era. A courageous minority, including some 150,000 Communists, took part in illegal resistance. Wider layers avoided danger but were able to keep labour movement values and memories alive amongst groups of friends, in workplaces and on housing estates.

These groups, oftentimes launched from the aforementioned housing estates, were generally called “Antifaschistische Ausschüsse,” “Antifaschistische Kommittees,” or the now famous “Antifaschistische Aktion” – “Antifa” for short."

It's becoming so clear now why the war of words between SJWs and the new white nationalists is so intense. It isn't because they have huge ideological differences -- it's because they have so much in common. Both are obsessed with race, SJWs demanding white shame, the alt-right responding with white pride. Both view everyday life and culture through a highly racialised filter. SJWs can't even watch a movie without counting how many lines the black actor has in comparison with the white actor so that they can rush home and tumblr about the injustice of it all. Both have a seemingly boundless capacity for self-pity. Both are convinced they're under siege, whether by patriarchy, transphobia and the Daily Mail (SJWs) or by pinkos and blacks (white nationalists). Both have a deep censorious strain. And both crave recognition of their victimhood and flattery of their feelings. This is really what they're fighting over -- not principles or visions but who should get the coveted title of the most hard-done-by identity. They're auditioning for social pity. "My life matters! My pain matters! I matter!" The increasing bitterness and even violence of their feud is not evidence of its substance, but the opposite: it's the narcissism of small differences. -- Brendan O'Neill

But isn't it a dominate view that "racist" activity, speech etc can only be perpetrated by White people against non White people?

Why qualify violence with "racist"? It's like "social justice". Why the qualifier?

Note the triad — hatred, bigotry, and violence. Those are the same 3 words he put together in Saturday's "many sides" statement — "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides."

Why? What's to condemn. People should be free to hate or be bigoted in whatever way they choose.

The only issue is violence and aggression - real aggression not microaggression.

And the violence shouldn't be "condemned". It should be prevented - starting with not standing down the cops. Followed by arresting and prosecuting perpetrators of that violence.

That's it. No moralizing, no searching for sinful thoughts and emotions.

We need more Spocks and Joe Fridays less "empathetic" women and politicians.

Bloomberg regularly pushes some slant on Trump and seldom praises him.

Safe to characterize Bloomberg’s spin on this as Trump stepping back. I lack a good and stable personal spectrum for daily press reporting and lack a single-point niche on my messy spectrum for Bloomberg vis Trump. I assume (knowing it’s an assumption) that Bloomberg as a person and as a press practices better habits and discipline publishing careful speech than does Trump, catering to economics and businesses.

Trump has characterized himself as his own strategist, and, he seems strategically primed in a fixed form to fault those who fault Trump, Kenneth C. Frazier of Merck, only the freshest.

The unfinished jigsaw puzzle, imho, looks more like a series walk-backs by others, walking away from Trump, rather than Trump backing off. If Bloomberg spins this recent Trump statement as a walk back, and even if Bloomberg is accurate in doing so (beats me), then Bloomberg ought to be wise enough in careful discipline to render Trump’s steps a rarity.

Things could change, however, though I still hope and pray that Trump cleans the swamp, even now, in what increasingly feels to me more like his dying (political - this is not a personal wish) political days. It’s just that there are so few, maybe no, others who have the mere outward display of guts that Trump has put on, except see below in finishing.

On the bottom line, authority is not something that one talks about. Maybe a little. Not a lot. IMHO.

Authority is far more something that one moves in.

Even silently, to be most effective.

Whitewash much? Communists in Germany worked with Nazis right up until June 1941, about the same time Communists and their fellow travelers in the United States turned on a dime and went from rabidly anti-war to pro-war, working as hard as possible to get the United States involved in another European war.

Trump dug himself a hole during his campaign by missing the opportunity for a "Sistah Souljah" (sp?) moment to denounce the "alt-right", so he was stuck this time. I have no problem with denouncing Nazis and Klansmen (is there any statement easier to make than that?), but the problem is that in the context of Charlottesville it appears to absolve the BLM/antifa side from responsibilty for the violence, whereas I don't think we know, yet, which group(s) were responsible. If the DOJ takes the easy way out, they'll conclude that the kid who drove his car into the crowd was Nazi or KKK, and leave it at that. I would really like to know more about what the BLM/antifa folks did (because I think they are, at least potentially, a bigger threat than the KKK/Nazis), and also what and why the local and state authorities acted as they did. Sessions, for whom I had great respect as a Senator, seems to have become pretty squishy as AG, so the DOJ investigation of these events may be a test for him.

In short, it was an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system. This casts serious doubt on the initial “hack,” as alleged, that led to the very consequential publication of a large store of documents on WikiLeaks last summer."

It's a good statement by Trump. How and why he is getting dragged into this morass is somewhat bewildering, but that's modern-day politics for you.

"We must love each other, show affection for each other and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry and violence,”

I'm not a huge fan of these generalized ambiguities. It reminds me of Bush's "War on Terror." In World War 2, we declared war on Japan and Germany, and fought, surprise, surprise, the Japanese and Germans.

But in the 2000s, we began fighting "terror," but not radical Islam?

And, now, we must condemn "hatred," "bigotry" and "violence?" Is anybody for hatred, bigotry and violence? Who is committing the hatred, bigotry and violence?

The 2 most violent recent politic acts I've seen were:

1. July 2016: Sniper murdered 5 Dallas Police Officers at a BLM rally .

2. June 2017: Left-winger James Hodgkinson shot up a GOP softball game, critically injuring Congressman Steve Scalise.

Currently, Antifa seems to be the most notorious proponent of hatred, bigotry and violence. They show up to quash free speech, cause property damage, and injure people all in the name of fighting 'fascism."

And, Yes, the Nazis are still horrid.

The KKK was much worse than BLM. No doubt. But you have 2 asymmetrical points:

1. The KKK was once very powerful in the Southern states, had members elected to public office and caused a lot of death and destruction against blacks and sympathetic whites. But that was decades ago. Currently they are weak, powerless and socially ostracized.

2. You don't judge groups on what their goal is, you judge them on what they do.

BLM may "want" equality, but some of their worst elements caused mayhem and destruction in Ferguson, despite Attorney General Holder clearing the officer of any charges .

And, of course, 5 Dallas police-officers were murdered by a Sniper at a BLM rally in 2016. .

So, a proper comparison, today, would be something like Antifa v Unite the White - a sober assessment of what they do, not necessarily the views the espouse.

Whitewash much? Communists in Germany worked with Nazis right up until June 1941, about the same time Communists and their fellow travelers in the United States turned on a dime and went from rabidly anti-war to pro-war, working as hard as possible to get the United States involved in another European war.

And why Nazis are always described as the very worst people to have ever existed, despite the greater brutality seen in the Maoist regime, among others. All the 20th century socialists and communists were awful, murderous, godless monsters but the Nazis always get the extra special no-good-nik treatment because they went against the Soviets.

The Soviets killed the kulaks as assiduously as Hitler did the European Jews. And the intelligentsia, don't forget.

Fuck 'em all, feed 'em shit.

I can understand the Jewish people holding them in eternal enmity, but genocide by race is no worse than genocide by class. Just as interracial slavery is no worse than intraracial. They all suck and you're dead or enslaved either way. To believe otherwise is racist by definition.

And even more importantly, the idiots who marched in Charlottesville are no kind of Nazis. They are pretending to be to get attention. They have no state, no power, and their influence only exists because antifa, BLM, and mainstream media have accentuated their position.

The counter protesters marched with Soviet flags, as evil an empire as the Nazis. Their high moral bona fides are suspect.

Trump faces an interesting problem. The calls to fire Steve Bannon are coming hard and strong from within the Republican/Conservative axis because of Bannon's links to the alt-right. The problem is that Bannon is the only member of Trump's entourage who has any real ties to the people who elected him and Bannon is the only one with any ideas outside the usual Republican 'tax cuts for the rich' groupthink. If Bannon goes then any rationale for Trump's presidency goes with him. It is clear that Trump himself is a complete dummy when it comes to policy. Most of the other surviving members of Trump's entourage are either technocrats or non-ideological/clueless, in the case of his immediate family.

Maybe I give them too much credit, but Trump and Sessions being pushed into going after those causing the violence is, to me, likely like the rabbit begging not to be thrown into the briar patch. The real violence is inevitably started by the Antifata fascist thugs. They are the ones who were there to disrupt the other side, that had a permit. They didn't. They just brought their masks, bats, and other weapons, and started beating people up whom they disagreed with. How does the DoJ/FBI look at the violence and try to bring the offenders to justice without going after the Antifa fascist thugs at least as much as they do their targets? And they will likely be there beforehand when the leftists again try to disrupt free speech, now that Trump and Sessions have been pushed into investigating. Should be interesting.

I never thought I'd agree with a BLM activist about anything, but I agree that you white liberals have no idea how terrible you are. :)

"There is no reason to fear neo-Nazis or racists screaming at Walmart checkout counters. You can see them coming. In fact, I applaud their passion and transparency. But white allies will stand close enough to smoothly slice open your gut so fast, you won’t even feel it until they’re stomping on your spilled entrails. And they are as slick as they are evil."

"I’ve had neighbors who marched at Black Lives Matter protests and then called the police on a random black kid walking through their neighborhood “looking suspicious” and carrying something under his hoodie. The “suspicious” thing he carried turned out to be a pamphlet showing the different kinds of cookie dough he was trying to sell to raise money for his band camp."

That's what you get for championing BLM, sunsong. The black activists think you are WORSE than the KKK.

To anybody who has read the history of the 1960's, radical black hatred of white liberals is nothing new. But none of the leftists here have read history. PB sez reading is for nerds.

And he-- probably a he-- gets paid a million dollars if he will agree in writing to go away and never be heard from again-- no social media, no interviews, no running for office... just shut the fuck up forever.

And if a new group rises up and decides that there are other people that are unacceptable to them, but there is no group to hate them back, then they have to fight to the death amongst themselves. Same conditions as above.

I will help you get started.

"In the US, murder is the leading cause of death for African American males aged 15 to 34. Between 1976 and 2008, African Americans were victims of 329,825 homicides.[99][100] In 2006, Federal Bureau of Investigation's Supplementary Homicide Report indicated that nearly half of the 14,990 murder victims were Black (7421).[101] In the year 2007 non-negligent homicides, there were 3,221 black victims and 3,587 white victims. While 2,905 of the black victims were killed by a black offender, 2,918 of the white victims were killed by white offenders. There were 566 white victims of black offenders and 245 black victims of white offenders.[102] The "white" category in the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) includes non-black Hispanics.[103] In London in 2006, 75% of the victims of gun crime and 79% of the suspects were "from the African/Caribbean community."[104] Murder demographics are affected by the improvement of trauma care, which has resulted in reduced lethality of violent assaults – thus the murder rate may not necessarily indicate the overall level of social violence.[105]"

but Trump is a true believer

of what? He seems almost entirely incapable any coherent policy thought. He was all over the map on health insurance and hasn't moved the ball forward on any other issue.

Thought and articulate, essay like expression of it are two different things.

Trump is a blowhard but he knows the difference between constructing a building and making a proposal.

My point is I think Trump is a true believer in results, how he expresses it or gets there will be done in a Trumpish manner not a lawyerly manner.

And the "ball moving forward" issue does involve getting other people on his team helping him win the game.

A sizable percentage of the Republican establishment envy him personally and hate his agenda and they have been fumbling the ball at every opportunity.

Nyamujal,

When you start to wonder which way that cuts, remember it was Collectivists who killed 100 million people last century. When you hear the hooves, think horses not zebras.

Occam.

The point being, that Antifa came to start a fight.

I think that's what the Nazis said about the Jews, more or less.

Listen to Hitler's speeches.

We're supposed to accept them as wisdom? No. Many of them are just plain old stupid.

You really have a problem of assuming things not in evidence :-)

Why not just ignore them? What is it that causes you to attack? What's that about? Do you think it accomplishes something?

A simple compilation of the number of people killed in the USA by the KKK, far right extremists and neo-Nazis from say the 1980's vs. those killed by BLM and Antifas should settle the argument on which side poses a greater threat.

I'm actually going to work on this when I'm free and compile a list. It might take some time and a lot of coding magic, but I'll take great pleasure in proving you Trumpkins wrong.

It's odd you think this would prove anything. Most people think all groups advocating violence are wrong. But you go work on your list.

LOL - Trump's in it for Trump :-)

Tells you something that they care so much about confederate monuments and symbols including the battle flag...But I guess it's heritage and not hate.

Do you honestly think Trump is sitting there and saying to himself "How can I help the KKK today?"

How interested do you think Trump is in losing support?

Enough to care about the viewpoints of his supporters, no matter how repugnant?

I don't think so.

And neither does Bannon. Bannon thinks we're taking up the cause of Europe pre-1500. For serious. Read Josh Green's book on him. Pretty unprecedentedly open access on the guy, compared to what anyone else knew about the relatively reclusive couch potato look-alike.

Why should I ignore something that is stupid and wrong?

No, sadly, pointing out your stupidity does not seem to accomplish anything, because, as Angel Dyne and others have noted you appear to be a bit retarded.

Nyamujal: When you read some histories of Nazi Germany, one of the chief arguments Hitler made was that he was standing up to violent leftists who were traitors.

Well if Hitler said that, we can confidently conclude that there were no violent leftists in Germany at that time.

And it follows from that there are no violent lefties in Germany, or anywhere else in Europe, or in the United States, now.

Lefty logic.

As long as we're quoting around here, I'd like to quote Ace of the Ace of Spades blog:

I think Identity Politics of all kinds are odious and poisonous to the individual -- if your value is your race or gender, well, you have branded yourself as someone of extraordinarily low value, haven't you?

But as John Sexton points out, you can't expect a culture to praise all sorts of Identity Politics -- flat-out racist groups and gender supremacists -- but say that one group doesn't get to play by the same rules.

Either it's all poisonous garbage, or it's all got something of merit to it.

I believe the former. But the media -- and the establishment right political class -- cannot continue with this incoherent claim that Identity Politics are permissible for e everyone except The One Group Which is Truly Odious and Cursed by God.

People will not accept that. No one will accept his subordination without a fight of some kind.

Well, liberal white cucks will. But they have no self-respect.

Really? And yet, you feel a need to attack "a bit retarded" person? LOL

Do you feel threatened by ideas? Really? Even retarded ideas? lol

Why do feel a need top personally attack? Why not just provide an argument for or against?

I don't know, sunsong. Maybe someday you'll have something resembling "an idea" in your head and you'll share it and we'll see.

Don't you honestly think Trump's answer to that hypothetical question would be - "Go away"? "Cease to exist"?

I understand that Donald Trump has hurt you. The election results and Trump himself have been emotionally traumatizing to many people.

And as a Trump supporter I appreciate legitimate criticisms of Trump - his lack of intellect, shallow, vulgar, crass, excessive age and weight, etc

But we need to be honest and state that in relation to the Big Three determiners of American political morality - blacks, Jews and gays - Donald Trump has been consistently on the opposite side from the KKK, neo nazis etc.

Donald Trump has NEVER been sympathetic to or supported aggression or contempt for any of these people.

And Trump's base would LOVE to have the majorities from these groups find religion and join the make America great team.

Pretending Donald Trump or his team are pro KKK, neo nazi is not a rational belief.

Inga's idea of "besting" someone in a argument is to call them "delusional."

I take it she didn't make the debate team in high school.

Now, can you argue like an adult or do you just want to repeat yourself the way senile old women tend to do?

Maybe now, but not back during the campaign. He welcomed the support of the Alt Right and white supremacists during the campaign. Now it's come back to bite him in the ass. Good.
