April is still a little bleak.

Mid-April Twigginess

But see that swath of green? This dot of pink:

Mid-April Twigginess

That's hope. Isn't it?

Its really cold today in Milwaukee as well. It even snowed a little yesterday and we have had a lot of rain.

Is it an advance or a retreat or neither that photography, in the right hands of course, can now do at the push of a button what once recquired the most excruciating tenacity and control on the part of a painter? And even then only a very few could pull it off. Pisarro's views through a screen of trees come to mind. Corot's similar blurred views. In a different way you could say that Pollack's whole meaning is encapsulated in the top photo. Not going anywhere with this. Just yakking.

Vicki hugs a 1500 watt heater while it rains at 35 degrees outside all weekend.

See that appealing branching structure? Enjoy it while you can. In three weeks it will all be hidden. For a whole half year.

Yes yes, keeping your shape in shape has its rewards, doesn't it, my shapely little non-twiggy mind-sticker.

Winter is forgotten.

I did the first lawn scything today (40 degrees at the moment), taking out the many spots with teenage growth spurts encouraged by canine nitrogen.

This shortcut historically has proven futile because the whole acre of grass does it at once pretty quickly, but hope is not easily defeated.

Right now, April 14, 10:25 pm, it's warmer in central Saskatchewan than it is in parts of Florida.

I like cruel April.
