John Grisham all the time brings you up short when his characters believe that e.g. "than" can only be a conjunction, and say e.g. "Nobody know him better than I." An author may believe that as a result of a mistaken grammar lesson, but his characters are going to be "than me" people.

And that brings the reader up short each time, which is an authorial mistake.

One heron is worth a thousand coots.

Ducks, whatever.

When you find a good fishing spot, you don't want to give it up.

Comments should go up immediately... unless you're commenting on a post older than 4 days. Then you have to wait for us to moderate you through. It's also possible to get shunted into spam by the machine. We try to keep an eye on that and release the miscaught good stuff. We do delete some comments, but not for viewpoint... for bad faith.
