"The fraternity party at Cornell University where a woman alleges she was sexually assaulted in 2024 was officially registered under university rules that were supposed to promote safer partying."
"The rules required fraternities to designate 'trained event monitors' who would stay sober and wear distinctive clothing so that police officers, paramedics or other partygoers could quickly identify them in an emergency.
One of the monitors listed by the Chi Phi fraternity in paperwork to register the 2024 party was Jonathan Newell, a man who would later be accused of sexually assaulting the woman known as Jane Doe — and the one who sent a Snapchat message inviting others into the room with her...."

Looks like "The training" didn't work.
Who monitors the monitor? Looks like no one.
A matter of diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, haters. LOL. Vive la sexual revolution! #NoJudgment #NoLabels #LustWins
As for the allegations, acquitted for reason of temporary insanity caused by hormonal disparities forced by gender differences. Can't we all sympathize, empathize with both the plaintiff and defendants? Maybe, baby. Baby, maybe.
The party had ended. Cinderella should up for the group sex after the ball.
Maybe Jane’s lawyer should sue the person who trained the party monitors for failure to train.
Newell was a train monitor
If I understand the facts here, all she had to do was say "No", or leave, or not go to the party, or not encourage what happened, all of which she was capable of, but she CHOSE to do the opposite. Is that right?
Are the monitors authorized to stop you from having consensual sex?
Read the robert mccain piece linked earlier
It was a sordid affair but not criminal
"Newell was a train monitor"
Thread winner. Dam son!
“Accused of taking part” does not mean he actually took part, now does it?
Believe. NO. Women. Ever!
The alleged victim wasn't at the party and didn't show up at the frat until after the party. That's what she said in her statement to the DA. She drank 10 drinks (she says) at her own sorority and then decided she was horny and texted the guy (who she knew and wanted to have sex with).
The guy is no saint or hero. But the NYT is deliberately falsifying the record to destroy the guy.

I dont think they're supposed to join in. But I could be wrong
What if the monitor heard conclusive consent? Who better to understand "consent" than a monitor?
I need to know more.
My mistake. She apparently told the DA that she was at a bar before she walked over a mile to the frat house.
We got ourselves a "Rashomon effect" story.
"She apparently told the DA that she was at a bar before she walked over a mile to the frat house."
And I heard (granted only a YouTube) that the bar tender denies having served her.
"he estimated he had two to three beers, several shots, two mixed drinks and a half bottle of a strawberry tequila drink"
I'll bet that strawberry margarita was tasty on the way back up.
Two years later, there's probably no video from that bar.
I suspect that this might be a situation where everyone involved acted badly. I know that sounds like a big surprise for a college fraternity party.
Also, I don't think that it was a realistic expectation to require the fraternity and sorority to assign one of its own members to stay sober and be a monitor. There would just be too much peer pressure put on the person to participate in the partying. I don't know what the solution would be, apart from requiring them to hire a neutral monitor to attend the party.
In addition to having represented fraternities, I also represented bars. The bartenders quite often deny serving, and the video surveillance cameras are often "down." Odd coincidence. Although there may be some truth to this, as the cameras that are working are quite often focused on the cash registers, so the owners can see if their bartenders are taking their cash.
Generally the credit or debit card records are more reliable.
Did they give him a special little hat after he finished this formal "Conductor's" training? Daily this more and more deserves a screenplay.
And if you want to hear 50 wildly different accounts of what happened, take the sworn depositions of 50 college students two years later.
It is also entirely possible that most of the frat members were listed as "trained event monitors" on the paperwork filed with Cornell. Everybody gets the training; whoever gets the short straws (or whose turn it is) gets assigned to be a 'monitor" for particular events. Just because he was listed doesn't mean that he was assigned to be a monitor that night.
"She drank 10 drinks (she says) at her own sorority and then decided she was horny and texted the guy (who she knew and wanted to have sex with)."
Holy moly. The equivilent of 2 bottles of wine to feel like having "sex".
"he estimated he had two to three beers, several shots, two mixed drinks and a half bottle of a strawberry tequila drink"
Cornell definity has a drinking problem. What a disgusting mixture.
I realize 8 people can constitute a "party", but I didn't understand the event to be a party.

90% of people getting msm or online info will miss this info, just like most commenters here did.

What Robert McCain piece?
From the article: “The rules required fraternities to designate “trained event monitors” who would stay sober and wear distinctive clothing….”
Arm bands? Yellow vests? Curious to know what the requirements were.
Sounds like the Sober Sisters at my daughter’s sorority. Rational was supposed to be 1 Sober one for each two potentially drunk ones. Sometimes that wasn’t enough. When the girls wanted to spend time with a guy (or two), they were apparently hard to stop. And girls are the snaky ones.
Why did the politically motivated Letitia affirm side with the woman and assert as fact the allegations? Because it’s election season…
…if you’re going to wait to pick a year to accuse rape, or have a pandemic for that matter, wait until after the election if you want to be taken seriously by serious people…
funny not funny how the ivies and wannabe ivies are the petri dish for much this political stuff. If not funny then at least- not a coincidence…
"Curious to know what the requirements were."
They knock shave-and-a-haircut telling him they're there "for the gangbang" and he then validates their tickets. Apparently.
All very interesting, but not relevant at all to whether there was consent. There are no heroes in this story. It isn't a fairy tale.

Newell was a "person of color" - so he gets a pass.
It seems like a spec script of rules of attraction
According to what she told the DA, she had an “X” marked on her hand to denote she was under age to drink at the Sorority hosted party hours before she walked over to the frat house. I think that Sorority party was at the bar where she claimed to have been served, which suggests she hid her marking that she was underage. That doesn’t clear the frat from serving her alcohol or drugs, party or not.
"It seems like a spec script of rules of attraction"
Video of the incident has been released!

Seems like everyone consented, but only one person has decided to sue.
I have no experience with drunken sluts. Damn it.
So maybe people can explain the female pyschology. Of course, sex is easier for everyone after tossing down a few. But when you're having 10 drinks, is that so you can enjoy the sex. Or is it to excuse your behavior afterwards? "Yeah i did this or that, but i was drunk".
From the texts that have been released it just sounds like the threesomes had a good time. They talked about seeing each other again. Unfortunately greed and a supercharged political season for the Democrats turned it into something . . . whatever it is today.
@RC: You’ve never heard of people having 10 drinks before?
Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker
I've never "heard of them"? when did i say that?
Oh Rc criticized my home country - Israel. The land that I love. "Stand beside and guide her, with a light from a light from above". So now, I'll follow that Israel critic Rc around the blog and snark and attack him.
LOL.
Newell has now been kicked out of the no-name U he went to. The guys really need to countersue to salvage what they can of their lives. She changed her sworn statement radically, and she was probably on PEDs, judging from her muscles.
She had 10 drinks because she enjoyed drinking. She had sex in 2 threesomes because she enjoyed threesomes (at least that’s what her texts say. The present accusations seem to be about the money.
Define "Taking Part"
These guys are disgusting pigs. I can’t imagine myself doing something like that. Probably why I never joined a frat. I heard of such doings even back in the early 1970s.
So it was "registered," sure, but did they also complete mandatory training and submit the required legal waivers in order to get a special gangbang permit?
Isn’t this the guy who used Snapchat to invite other guys? That’s hard to get past, whoever did that.
OK, so it looks like it was Ingalls who did the Snapchat.
For me it's the snapchat invite to come get some free pussy. Everything in the story up to that point, I was prepared to write off as regret sex and spiteful revenge from the woman. But that message? Now I'm on her side 100%.
Also rape should be treated as a capital crime.
