Reports are- the Supreme Leader is dead. So who will now rule North Korea? His daughter, the designated heir? Or will the Generals derail that plan and take over? What happens next?

Answer: No one knows. It's North Korea.

From Chinese military actions and movements on the border- it appears they've expecting a civil war. Which means- What? Obviously that means getting rid of the designated heir. But are there competing factions among the generals that China knows about but our intelligence services don't?

We live in interesting times.

Fetterman rejects ‘AI Doomsdaying,’ links tech and energy to national security

"U.S. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania defended the expansion of artificial intelligence and the energy resources needed to support it, arguing that both are essential to American national security.

“AI supremacy and energy dominance underpins our national security,” Fetterman posted on X on Saturday.

Fetterman also said China benefits when the United States overreacts to concerns surrounding artificial intelligence and its infrastructure.

“China continues to fuel and benefit from our overreaction,” he wrote.

Arrests is one way to quantify the French rioting. ChatGPT says:

"The arrest total has exceeded the roughly 2,000 arrests recorded during a particularly violent day of the Yellow Vest protests in December 2018."

So this bout of rioting is about as big as one day of the Yellow Vest rioting eight years ago. So this happens every few years.

Deadly fire at CFB Wainwright in Alberta

"Military official says grass fire ignited in training area, not caused by a natural gas explosion

A lethal fire broke out at CFB Wainwright in Alberta on Saturday. Authorities say four members of the Canadian Armed Forces were killed and dozens more injured.

Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed that four service members died, and their next of kin have been notified, while dozens more are seriously wounded after a significant fire burned at a large training area on a Canadian Forces Base in east-central Alberta on Saturday.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Sunday that 39 patients are currently in hospital, with "at least" 19 in critical condition."

From DataRepublican:
“You've heard that the DSA is proposing structural reforms to America, including abolishing the Senate and imposing term limits.
What you not have heard is - there is an operational plan to put it all into action. If the Democratic Party sweeps 2026, then DSA will become "foot soldiers" in constant clashes with the administration to cross a "red line" or invoke a "doomsday scenario" - meaning, President Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, probably sometime in 2027.
Then, a lot of coordinated responses kick off, including delegitimizing the federal government itself and handing that legitimacy to Democratic governors. 2028 then becomes a vote on whether to keep America governance as-is or to burn it all down to appease a "young and brown" demographic.
The mysterious group who's been coordinating 50501, Indivisible, and coordinating the NoKings protests is called "United Democracy Alliance" and their intellectual leader is Erica Chenoweth who came up with the 3.5% rule of nonviolent regime change.”

I let Grok read the contract compare to market, and make suggestions on changing it. I've been looking at it for 8 years, and just now got a much better deal than offered before. It should pay pay back what I spent in about 8 - 10 years, and the system is guaranteed for 20. That's a much better return than having the money in the bank. I bought a lot of panels, (18.7 KW) and there is some savings with scale. I could be wrong, but I expect the price of power to go up pretty fast in the future, and that makes it an even better deal.

The best outcome from the midterms is for the republicans to win the senate and the dems to win the house.

Then the Dems will impeach Trump at least 15 times for increasingly stupid shit, try to defund ICE, bail out Europe, send more money to Ukraine, condemn Israel 78 times, pass 513 resolutions against a "war" that isn't a war, try to block Trump's executive orders to build more refineries, burn some american flags, raise taxes on trillionaires, subpoena people trying to build steel mills and datacenters in the US.

The best outcome is giving democrats a chance to show Americans what they actually want for 2 years before 2028.

A Story of FAFO
In 2020 there were riots in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which did not spread to smaller Wisconsin towns due to the actions of one young man, Kyle Rittenhouse. He was attacked in Kenosha, a small city near Milwaukee by the usual Milwaukee rioters who, unusually, had left Milwaukee to spread the gospel of anarchy to Kenosha. Rittenhouse's attackers included a man armed with a Glock, a mob who chased him through the streets, a man swinging a skateboard to knock him down and men who jumpped on him as he lay in the street. Then, Rittenhouse shot dead several of those attacking him. He was cleared of any crime in a court of law on the basis that he acted in self-defence. That ended the spread of anarchy from its Milwaukee base. The rioters never again left the city for other Wisconsin town. All along they were outnumbered and unpopular but their violence was protected by some city judges and police chiefs. And then it wasn't.

Is it true that "Trump got elected promising to keep us out of these kinds of wars" (Barnacle Jaq, 7:19am)? Or was he talking about the kind of war that goes on for years, costing thousands of American lives, and achieves nothing, or less than nothing? (Afghanistan is even more oppressive than it was before.)

Trumps's also on video talking about the horrors of Khomeini's regime, and how it needs to be overthrown, in 1980. Yes, he's been talking about the mullahs almost as long as they've been in power, which is close to half a century. Of course, the horrors were already obvious within the first year, as the mullahs slaughtered thousands of people who had foolishly helped them come to power. Barnacle Jaq's always whining about the Shah's SAVAK, but a glance at Wikipedia shows that the mullahs just renamed the agency, kept most of the employees, added thousands more, and made them even more vicious.

Well there's that, plus they've been caught cheating egregiously on their emissions certifications for diesels, and doing it for years, so they're having to swallow some pretty huge fines as well. Bad decisions, poor engineering choices, and then cheating. They already deserve to suffer greatly, but they're also riding the wrong side of a huge de-industrialization wave that is sweeping across Europe, pushed along by steeply increasing energy costs. Can't run a plant on a few measly watts. The government policy machine seems poised to provide the coup-de-grace to their stupidness.

Here he is on Europe's energy crisis (7:09am): "Well Macron blames Trump for France’s economic crisis, not the sanctions that Europe has imposed on itself regarding its biggest supplier of cheap energy."

I've pointed this out to him more than once, that one of the main reasons for the energy shortage is Germany's idiotic decision to shut down all their nuclear power plants. They even blew up the cooling towers so the next government couldn't easily reopen them! Having their own power would be far better than depending on the likes of Putin, who could have cut them off whenever he liked, if someone hadn't already destroyed Nordstream. And other European countries, except for France, also shun nuclear power. Does Russian subsidize the anti-nuke movement? I'm pretty sure they do.

Peaceful warrior said...

Gerda raises a good question about how to measure the unrest in France. Official estimates put the October 17 turnout at around 550,000, compared with roughly 283,000 at the start of the Yellow Vest movement in 2018. Arrests on one recent day also exceeded those on the Yellow Vests' most violent days.

These comparisons have limitations. Counting methods, policing practices, and the duration of protests differ. It's also important to distinguish peaceful demonstrators from rioters. Still, the figures suggest that the current unrest is significant, even if it's too early to judge how it compares with the Yellow Vest movement overall.
