It may be mysterious and confusing, but it's not nonsense.
It sounds like something Batman would say:
One student leader explains the joke/"joke": "No young person talks like that.... Young people have reclaimed this phrase to point out that attempts to monitor and infiltrate their movements do not go unnoticed, and to assert their ability to organize in spite of them." It's a joke, another says, because "it is such a terrible impersonation of a young person." And it's racism, she adds, "because it implies that the people who are going to vandalize property are Arab.”

Any mention of the word "bismillah" immediately and irrevocably makes me think of Queen and Freddie Mercury.
Aaaaaand....now I have my earworm for the day.
Translation: "Bismillah, we will not let you go."
"Après nous, le déluge" is a very French sentiment.
The French elite are parsing the graffiti of their conquerors while their cities burn? Yah. That's a good response. Sheesh.
They also have other slogans: "From the River to the Sea" and "Allahu Akbar," for example.
“And it's racism, she adds, ‘because it implies that the people who are going to vandalize property are Arab.’”
To be fair, many are sub Saharan African.
And the term "Bismillah" has Arabic roots.
Let him goooooooooo!
…in the AP stylebook: violent muslims not matriculated at any learning institution = students
"In the name of God, its the darkness" to me suggests the classic Marxist approach to society - we can achieve heaven if we just kill enough people to get there.
It's a good critical reader exercise to parse the mainstream US press accounts of the events in France, and notice how they elide the fact that the large majority of rioters are young men of...recent immigrant status. As if it were a random, not important point.
"because it implies that the people who are going to vandalize property are Arab.”
Stereotypes are usually regarded hurtfully because they're usually correct.
'...One student leader explains the joke...' Give them credit for being organized. the press complies, by seeking out a leader for the statement, which quite probably was prepared and part of their briefing. I would guess it nicely deflects away from one of the main groups of the rioting efforts, the unassimilated jihadis. But there are black bloc member there too, and communists. Not just students. I think this is a well coordinated assault on a peaceful society that has not only let its guard down, but has made the fatal mistake of trusting their leadership, who has been leading them to slaughter for the past 20 years or so. They might be weak enough to fall, now.

Some are Berber, some are ANTIFA, Addicts, or just thieves with a plan
Of course the NYT would report on Bismallah, as if that matters. We see the videos about France every day; we know what matters. France is on the verge of something very very dark. No slang needed to make it hip.
"It's the darkness."
It's the end of enlightenment.
"The Age of Enlightenment was a 17th- and 18th-century European intellectual and philosophical movement. It prioritized human reason, scientific inquiry, individual liberty, religious tolerance, and skepticism of traditional authority to improve society."
“And it's racism, she adds, "because it implies that the people who are going to vandalize property are Arab.” “
Is it still a racist assumption if the rioters and looters are waving Palestinian flags? Just thought I’d ask.
…yah know the US declared these random/spontaneous/unorganized groups of students as a terrorist organization, then prosecuted, tried and imprisoned a fae of them with lengthy sentences commensurate with their crimes and the whole thing kind of stopped. I think it was mostly because the leftie Congresscritters enabling them thought twice about their status of above the law…
Diversitism.
"There are odd similarities between the end of the Pax Romana and the end of the Pax Americana which inherited Pax Britannica." - Pat Frank
The Chinese abort and enslave social justice movements led by Diverse assemblies of soldiers... students with culturally distant motives.
What loudogblog said.
Darkness comes to the City of Light.
In the name of God.
Once more we must acknowledge that Freddy Mercury (ethnically Persian) was ahead of his time in writing “Bismillah NO we will not let him go” mixing Persian with English phrases to entertain the youths.
SO?
so the arab "student" "protesters", that are destroying the country;
are "jokingly" pretending to be arabs?
huh?
"Student protests", is it?
I prefer “boogaloo snackbar” when quoting A-rabs as I try to avoid saying that their weak counterfeit god Muhammed is good at all and certainly not greater than our God.
I want to shoot my TV every time they call riots “protests.”
"I prefer “boogaloo snackbar” when quoting A-rabs"

Bismallah, fellow youngsters. We should put on our turbans and vandalize something.
Derka derka. Baklava! Mohammed jihad.
Reminds me of the fake "Boogaloo boys".
I say, fellow rightwingers, I'm not from the FBI or the ADL. So, lets put on hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, and drive around harrassing black women.
Speaking of Batman : "Some men just want to watch the world burn"
I woould like some information about who the 1600 people arrested are. That seems sadly missing from the coverage I have seen.
I see a little silhouetto of a man

The only problem with teh Enlightenment Project is that its basic premises have been proven wrong by historical experience.
I for one am somewhat disappointed, but it is what it is.
A bas Islam!
Isn't "BIsmillah" from that Bohemian Rhapsody song by Queen?
Never mind--I generally post before I read the previous comments.

They are the 'Jane Doe' of this story?
Didn't the woman crying for the looting to stop say that 'she was on their side'? Didn't that imply that they were not French?
"I woould like some information about who the 1600 people arrested are. That seems sadly missing from the coverage I have seen."
When they don't tell you, they're telling you.
Purported Exiled Iranian makes an excellent point.
One of the heros of the "movement" is a Nigerian immigrant rapper who r*ped and killed a small French girl.
