“At the end of the day, we need to elect JD,” Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with donors roughly two weeks ago, according to two people with knowledge of the comments who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter....
Even as Trump buoyed his vice president to donors in the Oval Office, though, he was still peppering people around him with questions about Vance versus Rubio.... An adviser to the president with direct knowledge of Trump’s comment to the donors said that Trump has privately resolved that Vance will be the heir to the GOP, but that it is “too early” to determine when Vance will announce his candidacy or when Trump will publicly endorse him.
Six other Trumpworld advisers and allies, however, cautioned that they aren’t convinced the president has settled on Vance, noting that Trump tells different things to different people and could still change his mind about an endorsement for 2028. Trump aides widely agree that the president will delay endorsing to avoid appearing to be a lame duck....

2028 is going to be a massive sh*tshow. One for the ages.
Yes, this would be the glorious start of the inaugural Presidential kayfabe.
Trump is not running again for the simple reason he can’t. He is pranking the press again and they don’t even get it.
We don’t hate our press enough.
Rubio may just sit out 2028 letting Vance crater and then come to the rescue in 2032 after the Democratic president makes hash out of everything.
JD gets all the heat while Marco the NeoCon will get the money. Trump is treating 2028 like a WWE MMA championship by creating as much buzz as possible.
Rubio has been impressive, to say the least. I still prefer JD
Oh yea.
that attitude - "let allow the dems to further destroy our nation"
That'll show us. then we can win later.
Not a good plan. Never a good plan.
The left's ultimate goal is to make their power, permanent.
and vote proof.
The Triumvirate 2028!!!
I am Team Rubio but I'm a big fan of JD as well. To me, this is a happy primary fight.
Rubio Leads Vance by 36 points in a straw poll.
First you free Cuba.
And then you run.
,,, other allies noted that trump is a pathological liar ...
Vance is 6’1. Rubio is 5’8. Trump knows the taller guy is more electable.
I believe ZERO of the behind the scenes stories that WaPo prints. I don’t believe they have sources that can or would accurately describe the president’s position, private conversations or expectations for the future. I do believe that the WaPo has been caught using incorrect sources, anonymous quotes from people who’s motives cannot be considered as a named source would be and running outright fabrications (remember the “battle for the Beast’s steering wheel” tale?) without ever apologizing or correcting the record.
If WaPo ever decides to perform traditional journalism again rather than agitprop, then perhaps I’ll pay attention to a story like this. Maybe. Someday.
What is a “neocon” anyway, Howard? You use that word as if it carries a common meaning but it’s just fluffy letters deployed in place of saying what you mean. So just spell it out. What do you mean?
Vance v. Rubio is not that big a deal. Both enjoy broad support among Republicans. Both are really talented guys. Both have been loyal and successful in their current roles, but neither promises to be a DJT clone. It's really more a question of style and personality. My slight preference would be for Rubio but only because he's a half-generation older than JD (who just turned 42!). It's the dems who are facing the more fateful choice as to the direction of their party.
You can trust the media here.

I'm rather sick on not freeing Cuba.
The Castro family King-rule, must end. They have stolen billions and billions from the people of Cuba.
US economy unexpectedly shed jobs in July ~ FOX Business News
"Hiring numbers for May and June were revised down by a combined 103,000"
Trump is going to be a laughing stock after the midterms. He has burnt too many bridges.
These are rabid left's socialist fake statistics. In out hearts we know that the real numbers are perfect! President Trump knows the real numbers! He has to keep them secret to get that evil Fed to finally lower the interest rates on my second mortgage I took out to pay for my operation.
It's 3D chess that lefties do not get. Trump knows how to fake being weak in order to surprise his enemies. Just look at Iran for an example. ~ MAGA
Winning !!!
Run a regression line through these graphs and it doesn’t look pretty… the trend is not Trump’s friend…

In that case, I’ll take Glenn Youngkin.
Welcome back, Joe Biden's economy. π
Really good analysis in USA Today about Vance vs. Rubio. A lot is riding on the how the war in Iran plays out.
This is like George Bush endorsing Condoleezza Rice or Dick Cheney.
What delusional reality do you live in if you think anyone connected to the war in Iran has a political future? Vance and Rubio will be electoral poison by 2028. The Iraq war gave us Obama. What will the backlash to the Iran war (which is far less popular than even Iraq) bring us. Not looking forward to it.
“What will the backlash to the Iran war (which is far less popular than even Iraq) bring us. Not looking forward to it.”
Yes, the American casualties have been horrific. Whatta quagmire!
Over here in reality, I can assure you that 90% of Americans have no feeling that we’re in anything like a real war with Iran.
DD - It's like you voting Kamala/Walz and marveling at her word salad and his ability to hire trained assassins.
On at least three separate occasions, Rubio has stated that he will not run against Vance. Let's see if he sticks to that.
I'm happy with either, I just hope they don't destroy each other in a primary battle.
DD - It's like you voting Kamala/Walz and marveling at her word salad and his ability to hire trained assassins.
No way was I going to vote for Kamala because I was concerned she would start a war with Iran. In fact I almost considered voting for Trump on that one single issue. Looks like DD was the smart one, once again.
Lindsey Graham is the type locality of a NeoCon.

Weren't you one of the retarded clowns that insisted this would be a "six week" affair? Have you realized you were wrong yet? Why do you think you are correct now when you have been a leaking bag of shit this whole time?
"Six other Trumpworld advisers and allies..."
Because the WaPo is really, really plugged in to what is going on behind closed doors inside the Trump administration.
This is just WaPo stirring things up to see what happens.
Hold your cards close, keep the poker face.
Democrats keep trying to chip away at the First and Second Amendments, so perhaps we can work out a deal to edit the Twenty-Second Amendment so it limits Presidents to only two CONSECUTIVE terms.
"No way was I going to vote for Kamala because I was concerned she would start a war with Iran. In fact I almost considered voting for Trump on that one single issue. Looks like DD was the smart one, once again."
The scope and depth of geopolitical analysis demonstrated here is staggering.
Says the Washington Post WITHOUT EVIDENCE.
Ill take a million Lindsey Graham's over one pile of shit leftist like Tim Walz.
Glenn Youngkin was a dull wet fart of a governor; he won because his opponent was the platonic ideal of past-their-expiration Democrat and spent most of his tenure debasing himself wheedling for a cabinet position. Scott Walker 2.0 with less to hang his hat on and a worse Reagan impression.
He might pull 5% in a primary… if a meteor struck the debate stage where the credible candidates were gathered first.
"Looks like DD was the smart one, once again."
Really? When was the other time?
WaPo wallows in the tar to bray a handmade tale to peddle afar.
If Rubio runs he has my vote.
@Meade, do you think Larry Bird could be persuaded to run as a Republican? He’s famous for his trash-talking — could you picture him trash talking to Vlad Putin? Not to mention Chuckie Schumer?
Hmmm. Sure sounds like Glenn gored one of IEE’s pet oxen. I wonder what it was? Maybe his efforts to end the lefty practice of biological teenaged boys putting on a skirt so they could rape teenaged females in the girls’ restrooms.
Without Trump's backing the cult won't go for him.
Politically a one-trick pony. Somehow convinced enough suburbanites he was moderate and proceeded to spend his term on culture war issues and endorsing extremist candidates, who got crushed even in a favorable GOP environment.
Today’s weak jobs report raises new questions about Joe Biden’s economic policies. After being out of office over a year, Biden has still failed to do anything about cost of groceries.
For the record Glenn Youngkin turned over a budget surplus to the Spanberger’s incoming administration, and among the first things the Virginia Democrats did was raise taxes. Clearly, to Democrats the point of taxes is not raising revenue to provide services, rather it is to make life ever tougher for working class and middle class taxpayers to get by.
Howard,
Breaking news: Lindsey Graham is still dead.
I like them both - leaning Rubio. JD's foray into Iranian negotiations looks like a big failure to date (of course that could change) Rubio has steered clear of that which could be good or could be viewed as him avoiding tough issues to protect his future electability. .
A budget surplus isn’t a perpetual motion machine—it doesn’t pay tomorrow’s bills forever. If Virginia Democrats adjusted taxes to fund ongoing priorities, argue whether those priorities are worthwhile. But pretending the objective is to make working families suffer is a convenient talking point.
The real irony? Many of the same politicians who denounce any state tax increase have no problem adding trillions to the national debt through unpaid-for federal tax cuts. Apparently deficits are only offensive when someone else creates them.
Reality check:
When the GOP President can't run for re-election, if the VP wants the nomination, he will get the nomination
Period. Dot. End of sentence.
The only question at issue is "Does Vance want to run for President in 2028, or does he want to keep his kids out of the spotlight?"
It really is pathetic seeing stupid wankers running around talking about how this person or that person could challenge Vance for the nomination. No, he can't. And no, no serious individual will even try. They may put together exploratory committees in case Vance doesn't run, but that's it.
The stupid really is appalling here
“Over here in reality, I can assure you that 90% of Americans have no feeling that we’re in anything like a real war with Iran.”
Why should I trust what this guy says about him living in ‘reality’? He seems pretty deluded.
https://thehill.com/policy/defense/6012145-marquette-poll-iran-war-cost-goals/
“Most Americans say the war in Iran has not been worth the cost and has fallen short of its goals, according to a new poll.
In a Marquette Law School Supreme Court poll, 88 percent of respondents said the U.S. has “not achieved its goals” in the conflict against Iran, while 12 percent said it has. The poll also found that 75 percent described the fighting as “not worth the cost,” while 25 percent said it has been worth the cost.”
“Weren't you one of the retarded clowns that insisted this would be a "six week" affair? Have you realized you were wrong yet? Why do you think you are correct now when you have been a leaking bag of shit this whole time?”
Nope. I’ve made no predictions whatsoever about the duration of this apocalyptic “war”. But I’m pretty confident my sons won’t be stringing barbed wire along the Vance Line, as the machine guns chatter and flares illuminate the shell-pocked landscape.
“Why should I trust what this guy says about him living in ‘reality’? He seems pretty deluded.”
Purely anecdotal, natch, but I have a pretty wide and varied circle of acquaintance and, for at least the last couple of months, I’ve heard exactly zero references to the Persian Meatgrinder.

Not a good plan. Never a good plan.
It's a prediction, not a plan. Fighting with Vance in the primary will just damage both with the hard-core MAGA's sticking with Vance getting him the nomination. But that will hurt Vance in the general with the revulsion of many to MAGA in general and Vance in particular, giving the Democrats a path to the presidency.
