"ICE is planning to buy up to $20 million worth of electric gloves designed to allow agents to deliver painful shocks to detainees."

I'm reading "ICE’s new weapon: painful electric shock gloves/The glove is manufactured by a firm called Compliant Technologies" (London Times).

The Glove — Generated Low-Output Voltage Emitter — "is not effective through clothing or hair and can be degraded on individuals and animals that are extremely hairy."

So what body parts do you grab with your electrified hands? I was able to find what I think is Compliant's manual. My search for "face" only turned up a couple instance of "surface": "Periodic cleaning of the outside surface area of the G.L.O.V.E. SHALL only be done with 'My-Shield' wipes or surface cleaner in order to maintain the warranty on the G.L.O.V.E."

Also from the manual (at page 15):

The G.L.O.V.E. SHALL NOT be deployed for any of the following:

Verbal defiance or belligerence

Punishment

Torture

Horse play

Avoid using the G.L.O.V.E. against certain portions of the population to include:

The elderly

Small children

Pregnant women

The severely handicapped

I’m picturing Michael Jackson moon-walking and shocking someone with the sequined glove. Or maybe a black Darth Vader glove.

The X-Men enter the chat. Magneto, what do you say?

Combine this with night vision cameras that allow one to see through clothes (they actually do), and what fun we'll have!

My two first impressions:
1) They seem to be pretty mild; nothing like the torture devices they will be portrayed as; and
2) They will be misused as torture devices.

Typical government waste. Spending all that money when a night stick would do the job.

This story is suspiciously on the nose for anti-ICE. Skepticism warranted.

"Typical government waste."

Part of the waste is the continuing expense of 'My-Shield' wipes. Don't want to void the warranty.

Somehow that made me picture the child's game "Operation."

At least I’m safe!

I couldn't read the London Times article, but my local news had a news feature on it today. They showed a demonstration of LEOs using them on other LEOs; one grab to the arm and the grabee went down in instant distress. They said they were currently being used in correctional facilities.

There are still illegals here to use them on?

I don’t like this at all.

I'll bet all the gloves will be written off and discarded within a year, both for ineffectiveness and negative PR baggage.

That being said, the question of where to grab vaguely reminds me of the time long ago when I was out with the horses and had to take a leak, and the stream accidently made contact with the electric fence.

…golfers are always looking for training aids with feedback. Can they be tweaked to activate to excessive pronation?

Not a fan. Too much room for inadvertent/ inappropriate use.

Well it will give new meaning to the "shocker": two hands on a pink and one's in the clink.

ICE is obviously not shooting enough people who resist if they have to resort to garbage like this.

People should just stop resisting and this crap like this is unnecessary.
