What a striking color shift, as seen by the iPhone. It certainly wasn't apparent to me, the human.

Write about whatever you want in the comments.

Raymond Arroyo did a piece on Ingraham just now from some fleet week thing somewhere. Inter alia, he went around on the Coast Guard Academy training tall ship Eagle. I knew that she was a WWII prize from the Krauts, but I did not know until today that the wheel is still emblazoned with her old name, SSS Horst Wessel! Now that the nameplate has been broadcast worldwide, will there be some kind of Nazigate to distract from Platner? CC, JSM

My wife and I just returned from an 18 day vacation to Scotland and Iceland, best vacation ever. We both disconnected from all social media during our trip. I recommend that you try it.

The murder of Henry Nowak is still roiling Britain. Farage has stated the public must view this injustice with "pure, cold anger". The BBC then reported this - 3 times - as "White, Cold anger". Farage threatened legal action and the BBC has issued a formal apology.

They've also released the Police bodycam of the arrest where the "Bobbies" let the white suspect bleed to death, while handcuffed, because he'd been accused of racism. Its quite horrifying. And sad.

Two foreign citizen scientists working for our NIH (Why? is the question that immediately comes to mind) charged with smuggling viruses into the USA. https://www.science.org/content/article/nih-scientists-criminally-charged-bringing-monkeypox-virus-us-although-samples
But- according to some it is, or course, a political witch hunt. They must have just forgotten to declare them and pack and ship them properly with required pre-authorization. Totally innocent mistake.

And we should all be able to recall more then one illegal Chinese bio-lab operating in the USA- with typical Chinese laxness for safety.

And then today- which you won't read about, a drug dog at a border checkpoint started acting weird towards one car- with a Chinese Ph.D. student crossing the border. Now drug dogs are trained to alert, point towards the source, and even paw at it. Now this dog was acting antsy near the back seat, but wasn't doing those things. And barked and growled at his HANDLER when he attempted to put the dog in the back seat. A bunch of refrigerated vials hidden under the seat with apparent viral material- labelled that way.

You are free to opine on what you think should be done with him, perhaps even including reading him his rights and getting a lawyer for him, court appointed if needed. I think he should be taken to GITMO- or a deep hole in CONUS, and be subject to some serious enhanced interrogation techniques to get to the bottom of it.

Same with the oh so very innocent NIH employees. Oh- would it surprise you if one of them worked on the covid virus? Didn't surprise me.

An Israeli citizen owned a house in Las Vegas that had Chinese Bio-lab in his garage. The Israeli was arrested then released, seems he was "Unaware" of the lab, even though he'd been caught dumping illegal waste. The chinese lab workers are still awaiting trial.

That's what happens when you have "open borders" and think "immigration is good, and damn those ICE agents". The well-to-do think they're "insulated" and its just those icky working class people who suffer. Think again.

Or as created by the iPhone.

You zoomed out on the second photo.
Or did you crop the first one?

The Hampshire police are trickle truthing the story out, trying to do damage control. A couple of days ago, it was the body cam footage. Now it's the 999 call the murderer's brother made, lying to police about Digwa being attacked and that no weapons were involved.

We've also found out that Digwa made a video of Nowak trying to escape. I doubt we'll see that. It wasn't even shown at his trial because it was deemed too disturbing to be shown.

I was doing other stuff today, not browsing the internet at all. So after I poster I went to Jeff Childers' Coffee and Covid substack, and returned to post a link since it nicely summarizes the NIH scientists with his usual type of well done sarcastic summary of things. And I see narciso already posted the link...

So what did I do today? Had to drop my son off at Buffalo airport. Early. I've been doing 5-6 miles of walking daily on our local bike/hike path. Drove from the airport to Niagara State Park, parked the car, and round trip from the parking spot to Table Rock on the Canadian side was 5.34 miles. Stopped at other places and did some more walking, but didn't measure distance. According to my watch I'm up to 19,733 steps today. Just walking around the house I'll break 20,000 in the next 2½ hours. Picked up some Canadian ice wine, which my wife likes better then NY ice wine- which she does like... Two varieties of maple whiskey. Some maple sugar candies, not for me as much as I like them. And a few other treats. So all in all, a good day was had by all. I posted all the pics I took to our family chat as I took them.

Oh, Canada does have homeless people too! Took a pic of one and posted that too. Daughter-in-law responded not to worry, they'll MAID him soon enough. An obvious solution to any nation's homeless problem.

SF Chronicle reports that a man tried to board a flight in Sacramento last Saturday night with an explosive device, torch lighter, knife, zip-ties, spray cans, scissors, and 5 phones, including one set to 15 minute timer and one displaying the message "we will be awaiting your call". He was wearing a scarf over his face and was wearing latex gloves when busted by TSA.

Speaking of Coffee & Covid, read up on the NIH researchers who got caught sneaking 113 vials of viruses and whatnot into the country. My God.

Caught by the CBP that the democrats are opposed to even funding.

The second half of this morning Coast to Coast with George Noory was devoted to ai:

"[R]esearcher and author Matthew James Bailey discussed the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing its current capabilities and future implications for humanity. He clarified that while AI is not conscious and "has no soul, and it has no divine spark," it is advancing toward artificial general intelligence (AGI), which will enable it to perform complex reasoning and take on active societal roles, such as autonomously managing medical diagnoses and appointments. AI, he added, will never be able to replicate the uniqueness of human consciousness, emotions, and spirituality.

He expressed concern about attempts to impose "forced ethics" on AI, such as those advocated by the Vatican and the Pope, arguing instead for ethics to "grow from within" individuals and communities. He envisions a decentralized model in which diverse groups and cultures develop their own plans for how they want to employ the technology. Bailey dismissed fears of AI malevolence, stating it lacks true understanding and self-awareness, but stressed the need for humans to become "benevolent shepherds" guiding AI's ethical growth. He criticized the AI industry for insufficient oversight, particularly regarding AI's influence on vulnerable youth.

YouTube: Big picture ai, or... "Is Transhumanism the Great Filter?"

"The red flag here is the moment that you no longer know how your technology exactly works, and that is AI. When you don't know that and you also don't know how the human brain does what it's doing, you are in the undiscovered country of humanity. No other technology we have ever developed was created under such conditions. No one knows the outcome of that.
I suspect the real problem is that those creating AI don't realize that they are in danger of overestimating what the human brain does and what it means to be human rather than underestimating their own technology. If you don't know how human consciousness emerges from a bunch of largely cholesterol, you will not know how to avoid doing that in silicon. You literally can't know from only one half of the equation.
That's a funny point here. If we don't know what human consciousness is and how it arises, how do you assess it? You really can't.
As far as the nuts and bolts of how that happens is concerned, it may actually be the processes that produce what we term as consciousness are a lot easier to produce than we think.
And there is a good indicator of that in that a brain the size of ours is managing to do it and a ton of other things all at once."

John Cornyn is remaining true to his brand, even after losing his primary. Having vowed, in his concession, to continue supporting the Republican party in its upcoming midterm election, Cornyn is now openly supporting a Libertarian Senate candidate who's on the ticket against Paxton. So, a week after his loss and his promise, he's actually doing the opposite.

So it's not because John Cornyn is a back-stabbing RINO. It's because John Cornyn is John Cornyn.

Mason G said...

"So, a week after his loss and his promise, he's actually doing the opposite."

I guess saying "I don't give a shit what the voters want. Fuck 'em" would be out of the question, then?

"So it's not because John Cornyn is a back-stabbing RINO. It's because John Cornyn is John Cornyn."

I'm so glad this clown lost. But its typical RINO behavior. Rule or ruin. I remember when all the people opposing Trump in 2015/2016 swore to the heavens they'd support the R nominee - no matter what. This is was when they were afraid "Crazy Trump" would run 3rd party or go libertarian.

Then when Trump got nominated - they all refused to support him.

The R establishment always pulls that trick. We're supposed to support them, no matter what. They may or may not support any "rebels".

RCOCEAN II said...

Tillis and Mitch McConnell are still trying to help the D's anyway they can. Voting with the D's, blocking appointments, slowing things down.

McConnell because he's always been a secret Democrat, Tillis because he's mad he got forced out. Whenver RINO's go "Maverick" and selfishly destroy the R parties ability to get things done, and say fuck the voters, they always get all pompous and talk about "Country over party" which really means "Me, me, me".

A Democrat may have a chance to win the Senate Seat in Alaska. She was the state-wide Congresswoman for a couple terms. And who supported her election? Why, "Republican" Lisa Murky!

It's almost 9:00, and the Western sky is still so bright I can't see either Jupiter or Venus, although they are both there. As is Mercury! Mercury is high above the Western horizon, but the Sun is still so bright that I can't see him.

I have read that Copernicus never once saw Mercury, which is not that surprising. He lived in Poland. Mercury is always near the Sun. I have seen Mercury multiple times in Zihuatanejo, but down there, the sky comes plummeting down from directly above, like a celestial waterfall. Here in the North, it screws its way down from the NW, and by the time it gets dark, Mercury is very close to the horizon. I have only seen Mercury once here in Eugene. I hope to see him again, before I die. I need to find a better Western horizon.

Jupiter said...

The Pacific ocean is a perfect Western horizon, except that here in Oregon, it is almost always socked in with clouds.
"Socked in". Where does that come from?

Aggie said...

"Socked in" Not a pilot but I always thought that it had to do with the wind sock, the earliest and most basic piece of airfield weather sensing. If you couldn't see the wind sock, sitting in the open cockpit at the end of the runway, then nobody was flying.

Aggie said...

I've heard pilots using the term when conditions were extreme heavy fog, 'pea soup'.

Mercury can also be seen in the east before sunrise. I've seen it many times, most recently two months ago from New Zealand.
