"So, did your son and Jeffrey Epstein talk about pole dancing as he begged him for money using your limited credibility?"

ADDED: I'm looking at that still and thinking Washington is a waxworks. Old, middle aged, and young — they all seem like waxen simulacra.

Would Bessent have gotten in any troubles if he had said, "Senator, go fuck yourself!"?

“We understand that these are challenging times for the American people, that we will get over this and that at present, the average household has paid about $200 more in gasoline,” Bessent said. “We think about this every day.”

No you don’t, your boss told everyone: "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody." when referring to the Iran War.

Iran may have Trump over an oil barrel.

Bessent and Rubio not only take no shit from the clownish democrats, they shovel it right back on them. If I were a dem politician, given what I've watched just today of those two, I would handle them very gingerly. Or maybe ask them intelligent questions in a respectful manner, and then give them an opportunity to answer. I'm sure that's asking too much.

Damn, that is some smack talk of the first water. Remind me not to play the dozens with Scott Bessent.

Now that is exercising free speech.

Rubio is better at putting them on the spot though. They're just highlighting that these CongressCritters are showboating for the folks back home, getting ready for the campaign trail, loading up on the short take clips they can use for campaigning. Rubio called out one of them that asked her questions and then left before he could answer. Cameras on him, he said 'Where are you going? I'm about to answer your question....' Very funny.

Bessent's major drawback is that he does not look like a real human being.

…I wish all the congressional sound bite meetings went like that. After a few more beat downs like that Congress would probably stop having them.

Compared to what, that crypt-keeper that was interrogating him? JFC, Wyden looks like the cadaver from the Synodus Horrenda.

Bessent is a star. Glad to see him slap around Wyden.

Why do I have to compare him to other people? There is something uncanny valley about his appearance.

There's a problem with people who can never be objective about their own team. Their team only exists in contrast to the other, horrible team that has zero redeeming qualities. This is a both sides thing. It's borderline cultish.

I haven't watched the clip yet, but I anticipate that Bessant runs, because I've heard him in other venues.

Hey Althouse lefties: where's the Democrat who, faced with an actual hostile questions, can calmly and effectively answer? Is there one? Just playing the odds, there should be at least one - but is that person somehow wrong on an identity basis? All the people they put forward seem to be inarticulate doofuses who are darn lucky never to face an adversarial interviewer - and, to boot, a lot of them appear to be rich white men, who have to overcome their wealth, color, and genitals by claiming a "disability" or a sad backstory.

I'm wondering about Josh Shapiro. I don't know a lot about him, except that he's definitely too far left for me, but when I've heard him speak he appears intelligent and articulate. Gee, too bad he's Jewish.

Fetterman, but he's now functionally as much of a Democrat as I am.

That would be one of the Democrat Admins, possibly MN, enabling and abetting Somalia and Haitian fraud

So you're saying your'e an idiot, got it

Is Bessent more or less "creepy", in your estimation, than Wyden?

If you refuse to answer the question, it's because you know the answer is "less", but don't care, because your'e just here to attack Bessent.

Speaking of being "borderline cultish"

Never forget, Democrats tried to kill Bessent shortly after he was nominated. They sent in someone into Congress to try to murder Bessent on the chamber floor, and the capitol police caught the guy.... all yards away from some leftist politician screeching about how dangerous Trupm was for threatening Congress while their toady was literally trying to murder Scott Bassent.

Not a single leftist has ever mentioned if that was unacceptable... just like they never, ever condemn the assassin wannabes on the Supreme Court (you can bet Kagan, Sotomeyer, and Brown sleep soundly without fear of being murdered in their sleep, unlike Thomas and Alito). Just today, I think it was, some Code Pink wacko attacked a Republican congresswoman in the "Sacred Halls of Congress" and nary a word from any leftist or leftist adjacent like Chuck condemning it. I guess "that's not who we are" is not applicable for leftist violence, is it.

Knew Wyden in the '70s, when, after flunking the bar for the 3rd time, he worked as a "gofer" in the Lane county (Eugene) DA's office. He hasn't notably improved his skill set.

Jamie said...

Well, yes, I was excluding him on that basis! I shouldn't have - he's still firmly in the caucus even though he talks like a centrist now.

You've accurately described democrats and republicans. Right now...the democrats aren't "in power" (to use your words). We are once again at war and experiencing run away inflation and it has nothing to do with the dems. We can blame them for a lot, but not this shit.

Love seeing Wyden get embarrassed but it seems pretty phony seeing someone from the Trump administration trying to use the "Epstein hoax" to smear someone. Trump said it was a hoax, right?

"... seems pretty phony seeing someone from the Trump administration trying to use the "Epstein hoax" to smear someone. Trump said it was a hoax, right? ..."

How awfully self-serving of you - Let's be more precise. What are you referencing?

The 'hoax' that Trump has referred to are the repeated accusations that Trump was somehow tied up with Epstein and his various sordid activities, all without basis as far as I can tell. Is that what you're referring to? Repeating things that aren't true is a favored tactic used against Trump - like the Russia hoax.

Did you hear Bessent refer to this, the 'Epstein hoax'? Or did Bessent simply point out the relationship that Wyden's son had with Epstein, one that involved millions of dollars in invested money, with nice profits? Are those two different things? Perhaps you can explain if they are related somehow - unless it was 'phony', which of course it was.

KKKak, (or should we call you "Kik" now after the place you and fellow Neo-nazi Graham Platner go to solicit minors?), what does this have to do with Epstein?

For all the grade school level blabbing you did about Epstein for 2 years, why can't you address it now and must go off on some unrelated pivot?

Is it because now we find out it was all the leftists like Wyde colluding with Epstein.

Whatever happened to "no one is above the law???"
Whatever happened to you saying "Let the chips fall where they may?" (LIke Wyden)
Why did you cover up rapist Swalwell for a decade?

Hello Kik KKKak? Hello? Too busy storming churches and soliciting minors on Kik? Hello Hello? Are you there KKKak?

Consider the fact Bessent was hired not for his sharp wit but because he learned to leverage the weakness of currency, such as when the difference between what the Bank of England was saying and what the market saw the Pound Sterling doing. The long game is applying his macroeconomic analysis to two persistent problems China’s obvious currency manipulation (providing an opportunity for arbitrage) and the International Socialists/Narcoterror Regimes access to US banking systems. Illegal immigrant access is a visible change ongoing but the Left and its pipeline to street level brownshirts is in full panic mode. Probably related to the Code Pink idiot who slapped Congresswoman Luna yesterday.

Wyden's current wife inherited and runs NYC's legendary Strand bookstore (miles and miles of shelves). Some online voices say he spends more time in NYC than in Oregon.

Wyden does appear to be embalmed in every photo, but then he is 77, another meddlesome Boomer clinging to power. His father was the journalist Peter Wyden, an interesting late 20th century figure.
