"Pease Park's giant troll sculpture burned to the ground after early morning fire."

The Austin-American Statesman reports.

In happier times:

AND: My son Chris, who lives in Austin, photographed the Pease Park troll last year:

Hmmm. Is this like the shrines in Japan that have suddenly started catching fire recently?

Uncontrolled burn.

A full 125 trolls? He's got a lefty version of a Corporate Art business going on there. Maybe he's in league with Jeff Koons and his balloon dog sales. It seems giant forks and stools and abstract metal splats are out of fashion.

They ought to just buy SunRay Kelley elf and hobbit houses for the hippies.

Was Edward Woodward involved?

Nick Cage?

From the photo, it looks like the fire was contained to the troll. So, who did it?

Unfortunately, the local piece of public art is 1) Very ugly (it's frequently referred to as that "shit pile" which is an accurate description) and 2) Made of something durable like mortar.
It is also a representation of a deity, but not a nice one.

Wow. Somebody trolled the troll.

That entrance by the hands and feet is rather interesting. For those brave enough to enter, you get knocked in the head by a dangling penis.

"I dare you to enter between my legs, and see what I'm holding in my hands." Probably why the troll got burned down. No warning sign.

“Dambo has made works with recycled
materials in more than 25 countries on five continents, including 125 of his signature trolls.”

This seems entirely appropriate. Fire is just another way of completing the carbon cycle, by which CO2 is absorbed from the atmosphere by growing plants, and after they die it’s released back to the atmosphere to be recycled into new plants. It’s nature’s way of keeping things going. You’re doing it right now just by breathing, except that compared to fire you’re pretty slow and boring.

The Mt. Horeb trolls are in mourning.

You know what another term for "recycled wood" is?

Wood.

That's a shame. The troll he built in Wauwatosa is really cool.

If you want a free high trust society 2% of the population should be killed or imprisoned or scared shitless to do things like this.

Did visitors have to ask consent before entering that troll's vagina? Does a troll even have a vagina? So many questions, now up in smoke.

Burning man, burning troll. I guess the temptation is just too great. But perhaps that is the destiny of a wooden troll, the fulfillment of its purpose.

Malin was the hostess of a famous old Swedish children’s show. Swedes of a certain age are now permanently damaged by comparing their female acquaintances with the exceptional thin in the right places, large in the right places tall blonde Malin of their youth.

Malin Olsson, of the show Sommarlov, on SVT. Malin Olsson was Miss Sweden in 2001.

I just looked up Malin’s photo and she is no longer blonde, oh well.

I'm not making a reservation at Sunray Kelley's place until I see a picture of the sanitary facilities.
