"But recently, this path has been exploited to a far greater degree by wealthy Democrats, many of whom are seeking anonymity to avoid reprisals from President Trump, even as they donate tens of millions of dollars at a time to defeat Republican candidates. In the 2024 election cycle, over 40 percent of the nearly $2 billion raised by the largest Democratic super PACs came from entities that did not disclose their donors, according to the Times analysis. That was twice the rate of the largest Republican super PACs that cycle. Alexandra Acker-Lyons, an adviser to several prominent progressive donors, said that liberals had to use everything in the campaign finance arsenal to fight Mr. Trump. 'When we get power, we can change all of the rules so that everyone plays nice,' Ms. Acker-Lyons said. 'But until we have power, we can’t do that.'"

there is a pile of evidence that the left fund themselves with our tax dollars. .. and with illegal international chi com type funding.
Yes, of course, the Republicans were the first to hide political donations, right, right. Who was it that was buying both sides of certain trades, giving the winners to Hillary and keeping the losers for himself, to write off on his taxes?
Wasn't it odd that Joe Biden was paid a million dollars to teach a class at Penn, and there never has been found any record of him teaching that class, and oh, btw, the guy who wrote the [money laundered] check? Biden appointed him Secretary of State.
We are the most propagandized nation, with the possible exception of North Korea, but maybe everything we hear about the Norks is propaganda too.
The entire concept of "non-profit" should be abolished. Tax deductible donations to your "Foundation" which pays your Mother-in-law $300k/year, Catholic Charities smuggling people across the border (this was once known as human trafficking), etc etc. If you want to donate to a cause, great, but not for tax avoidance purposes.
Simple rule of thumb: Whatever they accuse Republicans of, they are doing themselves.
It makes sense, it was like accusing Trump of being a pedophile, because it was plain as day that Joe Biden was one, so that when the evidence is put out there about Pedo Pete, as his son called him, it sounds like "So's your mother," and takes the wind right out of the accusation.
Remember all those "small donations" that the Dems conveniently forgot to get the zip codes for? That way, no one could prove they were from outside the US.

Trump commands the loyalty of 90% of the Republican voters. It’s an alt-right cult.
Also, the Republicans can’t attract voters by going back to their (pseudo-)neoliberal roots because that’s exactly what hollowed out the American middle class and impoverished the lower 30%.
The Republican ideology failed. Trumped tried neo-fascism and failed. There’s absolutely nowhere to retreat to.

Sorry, liberals, but if Kamala had gotten elected, she also would have gotten talked into a war with Iran, decided she want to get out of the war once she saw oil prices spike, surrendered to the Iranians, and given an incoherent prime time speech about the whole thing.
This is a clever melding of two lefty themes:
1) “It’s ok that we do it because they do it too, but they suck for doing it.”
2) “Things got a little out of hand. It's just this war and that lying son of a bitch, Johnson!”
I note the concern about avoiding retaliation, and that does suggest that maybe the Republicans, who had more to fear from retaliation from people like Obama, could have cooked this up, and the Democrats never imagined that the shoe would ever be on the other foot.

Did Republicans really "do it first"? How far back do you have to go to establish that? What are the numbers of donors and what are the sums involved? And how did they compare to Democrats use of the tactic?
My guess is that both sides were doing it from the beginning, whenever that was, and as the Democrat donations came to outnumber those of the Republicans, Democrats have been using the tactic more. It fits the Soros playbook to use philanthropies to get politicians elected.
Gates and Bloomberg are already well-known Democrat donors. They don't have to worry about reprisals from Trump if they donate more money. They do want to conceal from the public how much they are donating.
Note they have no example of the R first.

Actually, Democrats did it first. Republicans were established in response to establishnent of slavery and DEIst progress.
The monopolist, crusher of small tech firms, and Democrat Bill Gates led the way with billionaire political engagement in the late 1990s. Microsoft lost a lawsuit by its contractors -- had to give them pay or stock options. This led to the "100 day break" rule and other silly window dressing meant to show that H1B indentured servants and contractors were not "essential" employees.
"Buy 'em out boys": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H27rfr59RiE
Gates later actions were meant to deflect against an anti-trust breakup of Microsoft. Beyond backroom Party and green donations, he formed MSNBC and Slate magazine for cover.
I can't say his views and strategies are meaningfully different than Musk and Ellison. Similarly, Bloomberg is an opportunistic snake who switches up party labels and donations to get his way. Party label hardly matters when one has enough cash to be a puppet master.

Chaos and fraud: A look at the allegations facing ActBlue
It was just a year ago Tiny E® was claiming Trump was going to crash oil prices.
from my link:
"What is ActBlue? - ActBlue is a not-for-profit payment processor used by Democratic political campaigns at all levels of government and left-of-center activist groups to handle online contributions. The platform plays a vital role in the liberal financial ecosystem, having processed well over $16 billion in donations since its founding in 2004.
The liberal payment processing juggernaut, however, has been thrown into disarray. The New York Times reported on March 5 that at least seven senior staffers resigned in late February, including its top legal officer. The reason for the exodus is not yet known.
Zain Ahmad, who was the last remaining lawyer in ActBlue’s general counsel’s office before going on leave, wrote a cryptic message in a work Slack channel informing employees that “we have Anti-Retaliation and Whistleblower Policies for a reason.”"
Cookie Jar obedience. You will not retaliate against the corrupt left. If you do - Carville will promise retaliation and total financial ruin.
"I was told Iran no longer has air defenses."
Word now coming out of Iran is that one of the rescue helicopters has been shot down with video of it crashing in flames. We shall see. But Israel wants this war, so this war will be. No IDF ground troops, though.
Trump said that he wanted to make a deal, and was going to send Vance to Pakistan to talk to a former foreign minister of Iran, you know, to talk about making a deal and ending the war, and Israel assassinated him, killed his wife too.
When is Trump going to figure out that Israel is not on his side. Netanyahu does not have Trump's best interests at heart, and certainly doesn't have America's best interests in mind.

Daisies were Kenneth Burke's favorite flower, from playing "milk the cow" in his childhood with girls.
Ah here it is,
Mr. V . himself told me of a game that he and some little girls had invented when he was very young (indeed, this was among his earliest memories). The game was called "playing cow." It involved his going into a nearby field and picking daisiesban act that stood for the cow's grazing. Then, at a signal, he was called in to be milked by the little milkmaids, who used an old tin can for this purpose. T o this day, though he is now quite elderly, among wild flowers Mr. V . is particularly partial to the daisy, which among other things he associates with that humble pastoral pastime so near the innocence of his infancy.

The Plot: The Great Unfinished Sunrise
In a world where the sun has been replaced by a "confusing miasma" of pink and gray clouds, the protagonist, Althouse, sets out on a "Little Excursion" across the frozen surface of Lake Mendota.
The Impossible Train: While walking, the ice suddenly transforms into the interior of a high-speed Dutch train heading toward Leiden. The passengers are all "train riders" dressed in colonial-era Dutch attire, obsessively reading ancient law scrolls with "reverence".
The Ghost of Diplomacy: Donald Trump and Dana Bash appear as an "old couple on a low-key vacation," strolling through the train cars. Trump leans in to whisper that the sun hasn't risen because the "Department of War" has postponed all "military strikes against Iranian power plants," which were apparently the world’s only source of morning light.
The Chef’s Revelation: Althouse finds herself in a "Dutch version of Midnight Diner" located in the train's dining car. When she asks the chef for the meaning of this excursion, he holds up a single, glowing piece of bread and shouts, "Toast!".
The Surreal Climax: The train hits an "ice shove" and shatters. Althouse is suddenly back on campus, realizing that the "path is clearing as if by magic" toward a law school exam that never ends. She watches as "exploding trees" begin to rain down, their sap turning into the comments section of a blog.
The excursion concludes with the realization that the sun will only rise once the "Epstein Files" are finally put to bed by a fat lady who has disappeared after taking too much Ozempic.

When they say "first" I would guess they are referring to Paul Weyrich, who was the father of direct-mail appeals for political donations back in the 70's and 80's. But his money was notable for having been raised from many small donors, not "Wealthy Republicans". It was his major innovation and claim to fame.

TDS strikes again.
With this current U.S. president, I doubt that the capture of any U.S. personnel will change the near-term equation. These seem more like the kind of issues that would be resolved with the next presidential administration.
e.g. perhaps we see something along the lines of what happened with Carter and Reagan, where the release of U.S. hostages happened with the change of U.S. administration; the Iranians opted to humiliate Carter for providing sanctuary to the deposed Shah. In this analogy, Trump is Jimmy Carter.

The F15 crew rescue is a very dramatic breaking story. The pilot's helicopter rescue seems to have been a skin-of-the-teeth escape with the chopper being hit and barely making it out of Iranian airspace. There is tons of video from inside Iran of helicopters and even their refuelling tanker flying incredibly low abd even being shot at by IRGC small arms.
The back seater from the F15 still seems to be still doing escape and evasion, covered by air support. Its a reprise, apparently, of the events behind the film Bat*21 (1988, Gene Hackman, Danny Glover, excellent as I recall).
I suspect this and the apparent A10 shootdown are happening because many aircraft are now operating at much lower altitudes, in the envelope of manpads and AA guns.

“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”

Liars. The Democrats started this sort of giving decades ago through non-profits, academic think tanks, and major donors. They're comparing National Review cruises to Soros, the march through the institutions, the MSM, and scores of leftist unions, school borgs, nonprofits, and Wall Street/tech "charities." Utterly dishonest reporting. They always had the edge in money AND lobbyists AND powerful "academic experts." Always.
