"Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job..."

"... overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Trump, at Truth Social.

The spin at the NYT: "The firing of Ms. Bondi, 60, ends a turbulent 14-month tenure as attorney general in which she tried desperately to appease a boss who demanded unimpeded control of the Justice Department to pursue politically motivated investigations against targets of his choosing, even when prosecutors warned that there was no evidence to do so.... Yet Mr. Trump remained annoyed by Ms. Bondi’s inability to secure indictments of people he referred to as 'scum' during a speech in the department’s Great Hall about a year ago.... He has also complained about her shortcomings as a communicator and TV surrogate — a role he thought would suit her talents.... In mid-March, five Republicans on the House Oversight Committee blindsided their own leadership — and Ms. Bondi — by joining Democrats to vote to subpoena her to testify under oath behind closed doors about the Epstein case...."

The spin at The Daily Mail: "Trump's reasoning for the sudden dismissal comes in part because the President believes Bondi tipped off Eric Swalwell about the FBI's efforts to release investigative documents related to his relationship with an alleged Chinese spy."

So the NYT gets in their customary dig that Trump Thee Tyrant wants only compliant sycophants competent enough to do his dastardly bidding ('dastardly' is the word you use when it's not a Democrat doing it), while the Daily Mail tries to ferment some unlikely palace intrigue. Why would Pam Bondi be disposed to help Eric Swalwell?

Meanwhile, the people who seem better qualified to know what they're seeing, like Bill Shipley, seem to think of Bondi as a pretty effective AG, getting a lot accomplished, the kind of things that aren't show-boaty, but effect constructive long-term and beneficial changes. Who to believe? You decide.

I think Trump's history is that he has a habit of changing people out when he thinks they're near their peak, instead of when they have lost their effectiveness, sometimes through no fault of their own. Kristy Noem comes to mind?

I don’t have any real issue with Bondi. Her initial rollout of the Epstein files by giving binders to social media influencers was embarrassing, but that’s really it. Maybe we’ll learn more over the next couple days.

lonejustice said...

The problem with Bondi is that she repeatedly said that she had a list of all of Epstein's child sex clients just sitting on her desk, and that she would release the names, because the Trump administration was all about transparency. She didn't have a choice about this, since Trump relentlessly campaigned on the issue of transparency and releasing all of the Epstein perpetrators of child sex rape. Yet when push came to shove, all of the names and the list just somehow vanished into thin air, "like a fart in the wind," and she and Trump said the list didn't even exist. What total BS. At that point, any trust in Trump and Bondi evaporated.

According to the Times of Israel:
Investigation finds that FBI interviews with a woman who alleged Trump sexually and physically assaulted her as a minor were missing from the Epstein database, in violation of the law.

The United States Department of Justice withheld and prevented the release of several documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files that contained allegations of sexual assault of a minor by US President Donald Trump, according to an investigation carried out by US media outlet NPR.

The probe, which was subsequently backed up by an independent CNN review, found that among the withheld files were several interviews with a woman who alleged that Trump had sexually assaulted her decades earlier when she was a minor.

The decision to withhold the documents appears to violate the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandated that all documents relating to convicted sex offender Epstein be made public by December 19. In reality, millions were released only weeks later.

The three missing interviews are among more than 50 pages of FBI witness interviews that have been withheld from the public despite appearing to have been catalogued by the DOJ, the NPR probe found. The accompanying notes from the conversations are missing as well.

The same woman also accused Epstein of repeatedly assaulting her, starting when she was 13 years old. Unlike the documents concerning her allegations against Trump, the FBI interview in which she accuses Epstein of sexual assault was among the millions of documents released to the public.

“[Redacted] stated Epstein introduced her to Trump who subsequently forced her head down to his exposed penis which she subsequently bit,” the text reads. “In response, Trump punched her in the head and kicked her out.”

The presentation places the alleged assault as having taken place sometime between 1983 and 1985, when the victim was 13-15 years old.
