"[A]s Vice President JD Vance took a podium in Pakistan and said no deal had been reached had been reached to end the war in Iran... President Trump... was surrounded by people, but Mr. Trump was somehow an isolated figure...."

"People mostly circulated around him, checking in with updates and then leaving again. For the most part, Mr. Trump sat and impassively watched blood and saliva sprayed out from the fighters beating each other silly in front of him...."

Blood and saliva — I've got tags for both of those.

Trump was "surrounded." People "circulated around him." When you're a star, you can't grab what orbits around you:
Mr. Trump spent several hours orbited by Secretary of State Marco Rubio; a few of his children; some Ultimate Fighting Championship officials; Sergio Gor, the U.S. ambassador to India; the recording artist Vanilla Ice; Dan Bongino, the former deputy director of the F.B.I.; and the manosphere shepherd Joe Rogan.

Oh! The manosphere makes an appearance. That sounds like a planet — a sphere. I love the consistency of this solar system metaphor. Yes, isn't the sun lonely? It's lonely being the center of everything, where the orbs are all circulating at a distance.

As the night grew late on Saturday and the war once again seemed poised to spin out of Mr. Trump’s control, the vice president departed Pakistan without an agreement. The president stayed seated in Miami, his eyes trained on the men punching and kicking each other in a bloodstained cage.

The war itself gets in on the metaphor. It's "poised to spin" out of its trajectory.

Is this article an effort to make us feel that Trump's presence at the sports event was detrimental to U.S. negotiations to end the war? Because I don't think it was. He looks the opposite of desperate. But he'll be attacked for whatever he does. If he were cancelling public appearances and hunkered down in the White House, that would be portrayed in a negative light. And yet, the article isn't that negative toward Trump. It's pretty enigmatic.

Well..... It paints Trump as an isolated central figure, almost like an idol being tended. Is it really an attempt to dehumanize him, to 'other'? Maybe they're trying to make it look as if he's an emperor, on his throne, in his robes, in the coliseum.

Thumbs up.

Trump has lost the key strategic points of the conflict but wants to dictate terms as though he won. New York Times is quoting a source close to the Iranian government that US demanded zero enrichment, turning over stock pile of HEU, and control of Hormuz on their own terms. (As Iran said, the US was not able to obtain these objectives on the battlefield, but now it is expecting they will simply be handed to it at the negotiating table.) Plus no ceasefire in Lebanon.

You can’t have a successful negotiation if you can’t be realistic about where you’re starting from. But It appears unlikely Trump can ever do that. It seems that literally the only way he has of dealing with loss, is to pretend he won.

He’s never accepted that he lost the 2020 election either. The fantasy or delusion that he won, that the election was somehow rigged against him , and that he’s going to get his revenge on everybody who stole it from him, frighteningly remains at the center of much of what he does as President.

His extremely brittle ego is built on an infantile fantasy of omnipotence that has been reinforced by his political success at home. It cannot accommodate the reality of the very significant strategic setback he has incurred with his war. For Iran’s theocracy, the conflict is existential, but for Trump it’s psychologically existential.

Iran just showed the world they're nuclear weapon ambitions are an absolute priority. Why? Because they would use it if acquired. Who is in support of letting that happen? If they are willing to hold the world hostage mining shipping lanes, imagine what they would do if in possession of such a weapon.

TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, Fox News, WaPo, The Wall Street Journal, CBS, and CNN all have Trump-aligned owners. Here’s why US media has a liberal bias problem.

Little Bitch Bot - Trump aligned owners?
Hardly.
WaPo didn't follow orders and submit to the Kamala Kabal.
Bezos is hardly pro-Trump. You moron.
WaPO was TOLD to endorse idiot Kamala - and refused to endorse anyone.
You confuse Pro-Trump with attempting to shed the Democratic Party alignment media.

Of those you listed - only one (Fox) leans right.

The MSM loves to paint these little word pictures and write stories to show how Trump is bad/stupid or have the Democrats are good/smart.

If Antiafa attacks the White house and the secret service has to move WH staff and the POTUS to the basement for their safety the MSM story is "Wimpy Trump cowers in his basement" and "Trump police Goons brutalize mostly peaceful protesters".

But on J6 the story becomes "Noble police stop Trump insurrectionists from Overthrowing our Government" And "Crazed Trump mob kills policemen while shouting Hang Mike Pence"

RCOCEAN II said...

Had "Kam" been elected and attacked Iran, we'd be treated with never-ending stories of all the wicked-smart POTUS advisors pouring over complex data and Kam making all the brave, tough decisions. Breathless accounts of how "How President Harris made the tough decision for war". And "Inside the war room, how Kam and her advisors are fighting our war".

And if she'd taken a break by going to a rock concert, the MSM would be marveling at her capacity to relax and recharge her batteries in the midst of the conflict.

Freder, we didn't go to war to save the Iranian people from their shitty government, we went to prevent their shitty government from obtaining nukes. Their refusal to forgo the pursuit of nukes shows we were right to do so. They would prefer we bomb their people back to the stone age than not try to get nukes.

An overthrow of the regime by the people would potentially help us in achieving our goal, but is not a necessary condition to our achieving that goal.

Congratulations, Althouse. In my (fairly extensive) experience with university professors few seem to grasp the concept of delegation, but my interpretation of your post is that you kinda, sorta, get it. What Trump was doing was demonstrating his absolute confidence in JD Vance. Trump is not looking over his shoulder and Vance is not a marionette with Trump as the master puppeteer controlling Vance’s actions.

"but Mr. Trump was somehow an isolated figure."

From what I've seen, that goes with the territory of being President of the United States. I have read how many Presidents talked about how much they hated the isolation and not having the freedom to do what they wanted to do, like the hoi polloi.

I also think it was significant that the reporter referred to President Trump as Mr. Trump. That's a deliberate move to diminish his larger than life personality. Even before President Trump entered politics, he was usually referred to as :Donald Trump" or just "The Donald." Calling him Mr. Trump makes it seem like he's just a regular guy. The elitists think that this is an obvious insult and they like it, but it actually helps Donald Trump to be more relatable to the hoi polloi.

But if MAGA is about traditional values, secure borders, draining the swamp, and putting American citizens first, then Orbán is a disgrace — and they should have supported Magyar from the start.

The decision to back Orbán says a lot about Trump and Vance.

Re: Aggie:

I am reminded of one memorable description of Lord Salisbury:

Lord Salisbury is unto the other ministers as the Matterhorn to the smaller mountains that rise around it -- he is in the House of Lords and among these colleagues but not of them. And so with all his wonderful position, his tremendous prominence, his towering personality, he seems in the life of England, and among his countrymen, detached, lonely, sombre.

Although Trump can't really ever be described as sombre I suppose.
