Writes Philip Klein in "Donald Trump Wasn’t Bluffing on Iran" (National Review).
From the comments over there: "How Barack Obama must feel now, having tried sucking up to the Ayatollah, then bribing him (as did Biden later), and now finally realizing, after mocking Trump and denouncing Trump and lying about Trump, that the president who will be remembered as being truly consequential, is Trump. Sleep well, President Obama. Trump got him."
Which causes another commenter to quote this:

1 – 200 of 245 Newer› Newest»China is openly mocking the people who get killed by the US during "negotiations" for being so gullible and stupid for doing it that they deserve to die.
Stupid for thinking that the US ever negotiates in good faith, and they are not simply using it to find a chance to kill you and replace you with a puppet.
I dunno Jaq Trump had a big beautiful talk with the San Francisco Mayor where according to Trump real progress was made and he hasn’t done regime change there…yet…
The internet informs me that "As of now, Donald Trump has approximately 1,057 days left in his presidency, which is about 72.35% of his term remaining."
Here is what the art of the deal looks like:
We offered Iran ‘free nuclear fuel forever’ but they refused; they wanted enrichment for a nuclear bomb
As they say on a popular US game show: No Deal.
What a turd that guy was. As leaders go he and Biden look the same now…
It's still fog of war, and there is a lot of censorship, but video of burning hotels in the Gulf States has come out, and some sources are claiming that they are where we withdrew our soldiers from the bases that we knew would be attacked.
Like I said, it's impossible for us bystanders to know. The media space is full of lies that are partially true, (yes many hotels are burning, America soldiers are in them, that's a claim), the space is full of propaganda, outright lies, and the truth is like a fart in a windstorm.
He's worse than Biden.
Wouldnt those who DONT negotiate die anyway?
If one negotiates some, at least, may survive.
BTW the critical factor in long range/strategic conventional warfare is SEAD. Nobody yet is able to armor themselves against that enormous US advantage.
1979 was a long time ago but it was an act of war. As was the Marines Barracks attack of 1983. Ignoring a state of war did not make the threat go away. Bribing the enemy with billions in cash did not end the threat. Bombing the hell out of the nuclear enrichment sites did not end the threat.
Confronting the evil regime has ended the threat. We are lucky. This is probably the best case scenario for ending the Iranian threat for good. The biggest danger was always their last gasp strikes and those turned out to be rather feeble yesterday and only served to make Saudis and Bahrainis take our side against the mullahs.
"Negotiate with is so that we can learn who your new leaders are so that we can kill them too."
The other party has never negotiated in “good faith” with us, and Trump gave them a deadline to make a deal. It was very straightforward. Tell me how well it worked out when they took the pallet of cash and then, well? Did they table their nuclear program? Stop enriching? Allow international inspectors?
Forty fucking seven years since Iran declared war on U.S.
"1979 was a long time ago but it was an act of war."
Who started it? We did, in 1953 by installing out puppet shah, and the evil Iranians rejected our rule in 1979.
" turned out to be rather feeble yesterday "
Yes, we can tell this because their is no censorship going on in Israel or the Gulf States so we have access to all the information we need to make a judgement like that. I think it's more like a hurricane, like Hurricane Andrew, where you say the morning after, "that wasn't so bad..."
"The other party has never negotiated in 'good faith'"
One of the top rules of propaganda is to accuse the other side of your own faults and crimes.
Iran was peaceful and modern in 1979 when the Mohammadans took them back to the 7th century but with oil revenues. Yes they started this war.
There have been multiple administrations that negotiated with Iran to stop enrichment beyond 5%. There have also been multiple UN Resolutions along the same lines. This latest diplomatic round was proceeding as all others before it. “Fool me once” was more like fool me twenty times wrt Iran.
We are going to get the Regime Change that we have been talking about. This was a surgical decapitation strike. But, it also surgically removed the funding for the paramilitary forces that kept the Iranian theocracy in power, and had the blood of more than 30,000 protesters, over the last month or so, on their hands. And critically here, the Iranian rulers were having to recruit and pay for foreigners to augment their paramilitary forces. The Iranian people appear to be ecstatic about all this, and I expect that many of the paramilitary forces are running for their lives right now.
It should prove to be interesting.
Americans can finally rest easy as this man is dead!
/s. Lolol
"Iran was peaceful and modern in 1979" with no national sovereignty, and whose oil was being taken by the West. It was also a peaceful and modern country in 1953. I am not sure why that doesn't count.
The Strait of Hormuz is closed, and I am not sure how we are going to re-open it, when all it takes to close it from Iran is even a rag tag militia armed with drones to sink tankers, roaming a mountainous area riddled with caves and undoubtedly fortifications.
Maybe we have a plan, I hope Trump has thought this through more deeply than the commenters here.
Makes me wonder which of Obama’s signature successes, Obamacare or the Iran nuclear deal, was in fact his worst failure.
"The Iranian people appear to be ecstatic about all this,"
Imagine believing, after all of the lies the media has fed us on so many things, from COVID to Russiagate, that we are being presented with the truth, here.
Well Jaq, I was around 47 years ago when the Ayatollah paraded our embassy staff blindfolded through the streets of Tehran. You say we started it. Fine, takeover Iran and run as you wish. But no, they declared war on the Great Satan (the U.S.) in perpetuity. And then they proceeded to kill hundreds of thousands of innocents over the past 5 decades, with no signs of stopping. Screw them.
J6 is another one. Another shining example of how truthful and impartial our media is.
"And then they proceeded to kill hundreds of thousands of innocents over the past 5 decades"
You mean like in the Iran Iraq war, where we armed Iraq with the precursors to chemical weapons, which he used against Iran, and then we used the fact that he had used the weapons that we gave him, to remove him?
We are always bombing the living shit out of countries "to help them." that's why we dropped unguided iron bombs from B-52s on Baghdad.
Iran's crime is that it is too large, and too technically advanced to be dominated by Israel.
One more thing, the Iranian regime and their ilk responds only to strength. What caused the U.S. hostages to be released? The Iranian hostages were freed on January 20, 1981, the day of Ronald Reagan's inauguration as President of the United States.
I am beginning to think Jaq’s a plant.
To some, perhaps ones not alive in 1979, it might appear that Trump is entangling America in one of those “forever wars” that he ran against. But from the perspective of someone who knows the history and lost friends and family in the repeated attacks by Iran and has seen the intransigence and continued jihad of the Theocracy controlling Iran the present actions are a clear end to another “forever war” that several other presidents of both parties let fester, knowing it would continue to kill and maim and carry out assassination plots against the USA.
Just like Russia's crime is that if it were to be allowed to join Europe, the way it wanted, after the fall of the Soviet Union, it would be too large and powerful a member to dominate, threatening the positions of Germany, France, and the UK, not to mention US interests. Plus they have an estimated $72 trillion in natural resources which we could use to collatoralize our national debts.
The forces of history are eternal, and the playbook is not that large. That's why history seems to repeat itself.
"heocracy controlling Iran" What about the theocracy controlling. the US, just look at Huckabee's statement on Israel, and the theocracy controlling Israel
Projection propaganda is the go to tool.
And who has actually been carrying out assassinatin? When has Iran assassinated any US leader, and who has been doing the actual assassinations, like the assassination that you are celebrating today?
Projection propaganda... again,
This better work, because we just assassinated the only man really standing in the way of Iran getting nukes, and gave every reason to go the North Korea route.
The Jaq show, with reruns.
So I guess Trump doesn't always chicken out? No TACO Tuesday this week?
Looks like he wasn't kidding about renaming the DoD to the Department of War. And it looks like it has a whole new strategy about what "war" means and how to play it. No more performative pin pricks and pallets of cash. It's decapitation now. I suspect there will be a lot of enemy regimes now that are going to be a lot more receptive to serious negotiations.
BTW, imagine after 9-11 dancing in the streets as the towers fell. What would you think of the people celebrating the bombing of their own country?
The magazine that minted “Never Trump”, now embraces him as their neocon. "War makes strange bedfellows"
Not to worry Jaq, I see the newly minted nut case Tucker Tucker has seconded your perspective. Not a good look.
Tucker Carlson
Jac: "This better work, because we just assassinated the only man really standing in the way of Iran getting nukes".
Put down that crack pipe, Jac. (And where should we send the Candygram for your loss?)
Jaq,
Get your facts straight
Shah Reza pahlavi was the legitimate successor to his father, mired in ww2 Britain "encouraged" papa to abdicate to prevent his alliance wit the National Socialist.
Son ruled untit 79.
In 1953 the CIA and Brits put down a coup AGAINST the shah (son) when he exercised his constitutional power to replace the pm. Prime ministers were appointed by the Shah and served at his pleasure.
John Henry
Intake Clerk in Islamic Paradise, flipping through index cards, "Khamenei, Khamenei, ahh, here it is."
"Stand over there and wait. I'll begin calling your doe-eyed, large-breasted virgins,
Helen Thomas,
Bella Abzug,

Dianne Feinstein,
Sheila Jackson Lee,
. . ."
"Wait, stop! This is ridiculous. None of this can be right."
“No, it’s right, Ayatollah. You’re a scholar of Islam. You know Allah’s always Al-‘Aleem (The All-Knowing) and Al-Hakeem (The All-Wise), possessing great wisdom. He’s chosen well for you.”
The success of Trump compared to the failure of Obama is stark. Yes, Barack was President but he was not consequential other than being the first Black President.
think How Horrible this has all been for rcocean!
he's spent his life, blaming ALL of (his) problems and failures,
on: The JOOOOOOOOOOOOOZE!!!
Now, he finds himself having to Openly support the Islamists in Iran.
very awkward for him.
Let's all give him the sympathy and support he deserves
No more Iranian oil for China. No more Iranian drones for Russia. Two good geopolitical outcomes for US. Wise observers may notice a pattern here, isolating China and Russia. Ironically both just sent lots of air defense equipment to Iran but oopsie it’s no longer useable for any of them.
John Henry points out that..
"..In 1953 the CIA and Brits put down a coup AGAINST the shah (son) when he exercised his constitutional power to replace the pm.."
It's interesting (to me), that folks talk about 1953, but never mention 1941
from wiki:
"..Iran rejected British and Soviet demands to expel German residents from its borders. In response, the two Allies invaded in August 1941 and easily overwhelmed the weak Iranian army in Operation Countenance. Iran became the major conduit of Allied Lend-Lease aid to the Soviet Union. The purpose was to secure Iranian oil fields and ensure Allied supply lines through the Persian Corridor. Iran remained officially neutral. Reza Shah was deposed during the subsequent occupation.."
so, in 1953, the CIA worked against a marxist coup, and REINSTALLED the shah.. And, that was "bad"
but, in 1941 the Brits and the USSR took THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, and turned it into a colony of Russia..
And that, was GOOD.
See,
If the CIA (US) does anything..it's BAD!!!
If the Communists do ANY THING.. it's GOOD!!!
I see the hot takes have been flipped

Hoping for the best, fearing for the worst. In Perfect world, the Iranian people and regular army join against the IRGC and the reamaining regime goons to overthrow them and put together a non-jihadist country, possibly with the former Shah's son as a figurehead like the Empereor of Japan or King Charles in England.
Yes they cherry pick data. It’s a propaganda technique to frame us (USA) as the bad guy. Like the “but da negotiations!” crowd does. Oman was pleading with both parties to return to the table yesterday when Iran sent missiles to strike Oman anyway.
So yeah I’m not buying the “good faith” myth being spun by the America-haters.
An if Obama would have done this, the Republicans would have excoriated him for not going to Congress for authorization. Have we forgotten Libya?
The Republicans would have been right. It fucking clear as day in the Constitution that only Congress can declare war. That means its really hard to get enough support to go to war. It's designed that way, dumdums! It's supposed to be hard to go to war and when we "pull the trigger" on the action, it is supposed to have clear support.
Trump and Obama are a lot alike. Two evil, lying fucks that faked being peaceniks to get elected only to waste our money on endless war.
Yes they destroyed a reluctant ally who sided with us, turned the country into an al queda sanctuary that general hafter has clawed back the eastern region
Contrast and compare Carters clusterf**k in the desert trying to rescue the hostages with trumps extraction of Maduro.
As well as the 2ops sort far against iran
John Henry
They struck a hotel and an airport terminal deliberately that tells you everything about them
Lloyds has shut down the Strait of Hormuz, not that anybody was transiting it, 25% of the sea borne oil, globally, and the Houthis have shut down the Red Sea, I thought Trump said that they were defeated. Are we going to kill Lloyds president, and keep killing whoever replaces him until we get a guy who is willing to insure tankers against soldiers with weapons that can be carried by a man and that can sink a tanker?
Congress in recent years is not a functional debating organization. They have temper tantrums over the most basic issues. 12% approval. How could we possibly think they could objectively vote on a war bill if we actually needed one? Plus, the left hates America, don’t forget.
"They struck a hotel and an airport terminal deliberately that tells you everything about them"
Civilian airports have been used already in this operation, there is video of a long row of tankers parked at Ben Gurion airport.
The soldiers we evacuated from the bases moved to hotels, and if you don't think that the Iranians have sympathizers on the staffs of every hotel in the Gulf States, you don't really have a clue about the middle east.
So the West has been using civilian airports and civilian hotels for military purposes for this war, this exact war.
At least Obama green-lighted the op that retrieved Osama. He wasn’t completely useless geopolitically.
"AQ is on our side in Syria" —Hillary Clinton from Wikileaks.
AQ provides so many pretexts for us to do the invasions that we would want to do anyway, that if they didn't exist, we would have to invent them...
You guys just don't understand how depraved that the people running our security state really are.
However this comes out, if it comes out "jelly side up" for us as we said about the Maidan coup in 2014, I don't care. I am done voting is cargo cult behavior, we make a big show of voting, and we may as well be voting on the weather.
I will apply for an absentee ballot, sign it, and give it to my Trump hating SO to fill out, because it's a meaningless gesture that will make it more peaceful around this house.
"Dave Begley said...

Not true. You are only considering good consequences. Obamacare, Fast & Furious, ISIS, ....
"t least Obama green-lighted the op that retrieved Osama. "
And Biden opposed it, and not for nothing, but papers were found in Pakistan ordering bin Laden's men to not kill Biden, even if they got a chance...
You guys have been conditioned to believe absurdities, seriously, although just like some of the commenters here are likely paid by Chorus, others are stooges to the security state.
Considering we have ships at end of the straits (show some awareness)
ISIS is the terror outfit that only attacks enemies of the CIA, unless we need a pretext for a war we want to fight, then they might attack our side. But a former Israeli MP has said that ISIS apologies to Israel for killing an IDF soldier.
Follow the logic DDD. The same OLC analysis that authorized Obama bombing Libya and Syria and the rest without a Congressional war vote is still relevant in this endeavor. Odds are our direct involvement will end before Congress can call itself to order and hold a vote. Even then, a vote on what? Do you really want to push another executive branch issue into SCOTUS and lose face and power again, power that would accrue to Trump if (as expected) the War Powers Act is ruled unconstitutional? Like happened with Chevron? And the EPA? And the argument over firing federal workers?
"Considering we have ships at end of the straits (show some awareness)"
How did that work out with the Houthis? The Harry S Truman lost three F-18s and was driven away. One they claimed "fell i the ocean" after a maneuver by the carrier to avoid a Houthi strike, even if true, that's a win. One we claim was shot down by friendly fire, I guess we figured that the Houthis suddenly had jet fighters, not that they had been regularly shooting down our drones, and the third was an equipment failure on the flight deck, was the equipment damaged by a drone hit? Maybe the same drone that hit that fighter jet that "fell overboard"? We are not told.
Show some awareness.
I don't know how this will turn out, but there is no scenario where the Ayatollah and his high command come out the winner. They're dead......At the end of WWII, the Soviet Union occupied the upper half of Iran. They withdrew in response to American pressure. Does this constitute American interference in Iranian internal affairs?
"bombing Libya and Syria "
Google massacres of Christians in Syria since we put the head choppers in charge.
Google open air slave markets in Libya, since we put the head choppers in charge.
The refugee flows from these "police actions" have destabilized Europe. Maybe they are not a good idea. Maybe our interests are not identical to Israel's perceived self interests.
The iranian navy is a new reef
"oes this constitute American interference in Iranian internal affairs?"
So why did we do the coup in 1953, it's all been declassified now, BTW, so there is not much point in denying it.
"The iranian navy is a new reef"
It was always about the shore based anti ship missiles.
The Houthis had no navy, BTW.
It’s not constructive to list every single thing that’s happened wrt Iran as if the same people and circumstances existed then as they do today. Consistency of approach and action across the decades is impossible to meet or even expect.
There is no need to mine the Strait. No need for a navy, all they need is the fact that the route is lined with cave riddles hillsides, that have been being fortified and stocked by Iran, probably since 1979.
Maybe it all works out, but this is a terrible gamble.
"It’s not constructive to list every single thing that’s happened wrt Iran"
What does "constructive" mean? Are we supposed to ignore the history of the conflict, cherry pick our justifications, ignore our provocations? What exactly does "constructive" mean? Does it make it hard to fall in line behind a murderous war that doesn't put America first?
The 53 revolt was supported by the ayatollahs predecessor behesti (it doesnt take long to find this out)

He was consequential, but not in a good way.
The wokification of all of our institutions occurred under his watch.
The total politicization of all aspects of everything began under his watch. Think IRS & FBI.
The Russia collusion hoax was partially his creation.
Sucking up to Iran was not the worst thing that he did.
THis is how these clowns think. Its all about them, and their place in history, and doing "Big Things" aka starting wars in foreign policy. Actually doing their job representing the American people and dealing with our problems is considered boring and trivial. Not my concern and Mr. Pence put it.
Anyway, just like his attack on Venesuvela (sic) this attack on Iran will be forgotten in six months because it will change nothing for the USA. This is just for Israel.
The regime has been a threat to ship navigation at least in 1986
US doctrine is that if an opponent sinks a carrier, we go nuclear, BTW. Iran is reportedly shooting ballistic missiles at our carriers.
The idea that this could be a short "surgical" (look at the girls elementary school that was hit while in school was in session because it was a surprise attack) strike, and announcing that up front, says to Iran, drag it out. Keep the Strait closed, take the punishment long enough, and it will have to stop.
I hope Trump has a plan that will justify the blood on his hands.
Iran and Iraq during their conflict had the same level of casualties as France and Germany during WWI. This is a war that never would have happened under the Shah. The Shah spent quite a lot of money on champagne and jewels for his mistresses, but this was just a minuscule fraction of what was spent on that war. That nuclear development program probably cost a lot more too. It would have been gross interference in Iranian affairs if we had supported the Shah and kept him in power., and a lot of Iranians would be alive today.......There are worse crimes than corruption.
You were a duffuss for jackson who sided with all our enemies in the cold war (dont tell me about your judgement)
@Jaq
You say “it's impossible for us bystanders to know.”
and then you prove it. Well done.
"The regime has been a threat to ship navigation at least in 1986"
Who is doing piracy all over the high seas, seizing tankers, because of laws that they passed in their own countries? How is this any different than what the Barbary Pirates were doing, which was also perfectly legal and justified by the laws of their own countries?
Islamist ideology is really the core problem in the Middle East, Europe, and here. It makes peace and prosperity nearly impossible. It's the enemy of freedom, enlightenment, tolerance and justice. It just is. Marxism is its selfish whore of a girlfriend. It doesn't respect her, but finds her useful now and then.
Of course you get all these Yeehaw 'muricans who live vicariously though the Israel and US millitary and get a big thrill out of attacking weak countries and killing people. Look at Miss Lindsey, that weird goober is Exhibit A.
Yeah, the Iranian navy is at the bottom of the ocean. I didn't even know they had a navy its so small. I get the feeling if we attacked the Cayman Islands all these Yeehaw 'murcians would be going "Look at that. Har har, we showed them. USA!"
It would be surprising to me if Iran had not used 4 years of open borders to infiltrate biological and/or radiological materials into the U S. This is going to be the new normal.
"hen you prove it. "

Obama turned Libya into an open air slave market.
If Trump lets the Mullahs rule thousands of people die.
If Trump kills the Mullahs thousands of people die.
If Trump turns Iran into an open air slave market then Trump will be like Obama.
That however seems unlikely mostly because the people of Persian ethnicity are high IQ and well organized.
I wish there was a mute button… lol
In the end, 0bama… the BIG Zer0 was a BIG Zer0.
Jaq, I count 27 comments from you in this thread so far. It's all despair over events going back to 1953. I still don't understand what it is you think Trump should have done or should now do in regard to Iran.
These arguments probably smell fresh on blue scream
I don't know how this comes out, and I hope it comes out well for the US, and by "well," I mean in the long run, not just for a couple of weeks, so go head and dance your war dances, time will tell, as it always does. If in a week from now, the Iranians have been scoured from the mountainsides near the Strait, which will require boots on the ground to go up against drones, which the Ukraine conflict shows are the new version of WWI trenches.
Stock up on fava beans and chianti.
Iran leadership bombed. Jaq hardest hit. But he is just asking questions. Like Candace.

You can pretend that you are being told the truth, but it would be the first time in the long history of war.
The problem with using COVID as an example is that out of everyone on this board it was you that enthusiastically swallowed the lies. You were constantly telling us we were all going to die and you kept blathering illiterately about exponential death rates.
It is just like today where you can't stop crying about people being killed and you are emotionally overwrought.
The Iranian people are starving and dying of thirst. They are going to rebel against their rulers.
If Trump kills the mullahs thousands of people die.
If Trump lets the mullahs rule the Iranian people thousands of them will die.
The only difference is who gets killed and what comes next. Nobody wants to listen to your emotional incontinence and ignorance.
"Trump should have done or should now do in regard to Iran."
It's not our problem, we should just get along with them, it's Israel's problem that they refuse to compromise, and get along, so Israel should be the one fighting their own war.
"These arguments probably smell fresh on blue scream"
If they are old arguments, I am sure that you have a boatload of cogent rebuttals, that you just refuse to share. All you ever do here is repeat the Israel catechism, over and over, repetition is your only argument.
DeeDee with his usual double-digit IQ- fueled dumpster diving…
"is that out of everyone on this board it was you that enthusiastically swallowed the lies."
This is complete bullshit. I don't see any need to read further. If all of this killing gives you a boner, enjoy it. This war is going to play out no matter what we say here, same as the weather does, no matter how much we talk about it.
And now for something completely different:

Which mansion? He has several.
I wonder which one his pallets of cash he shipped to Iran bought.
Wow, that clip of Obama makes him look really fucking stupid.
If there was justice in the world he would be forced to watch that clip on repeat while he rotted in prison with a dull knife on a mat next to him until he restored his family's honor.

"This war is going to play out no matter what we say here, same as the weather does, no matter how much we talk about it."
Should have started with that.
And then had breakfast.
The absolute state of Europe today is encapsulated perfectly in this statement yesterday from its leader who was taking the weekend off as always:
"Following the ongoing situation in Iran, I am convening a special Security College on Monday.
For regional security and stability, it is of the utmost importance that there is no further escalation through Iran’s unjustified attacks on partners in the region." - Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission
" I am convening a special Security College on Monday."
Oh good, a brunch. I hope they have the wine they had last time, and the eggs benedict was sublime.
Island of misfit toys
Frau von leyen is not actually in charge of anything but her mouth
"If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor"
"Biden is sharp as a tack."
"Trump will never be President"
"Trump always chickens out."
That one really aged poorly
The whole world is laughing at von der Leyen's tweet on Iran. “These people don't work on weekends” and “we don't care what they say or don't say.” All of this is true. But the real information is elsewhere: von der Leyen has NO authority under the treaties to intervene in foreign policy. Foreign policy is strictly an intergovernmental competence under the EU treaties (TEU Articles 22–46). Member states hold primary authority, and decisions require unanimity in the Foreign Affairs Council. The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (currently Kaja Kallas, since late 2024) is the key figure for conducting and coordinating EU foreign policy, chairing the Foreign Affairs Council (in that configuration), and heading the European External Action Service (EEAS). The Commission President (von der Leyen) has no formal authority. *Zero*. And this is where one of the Commission's ugly secrets comes to light: the Mother of the Green Deal is as hateful as she is stupid. She hates Kallas. And so she shamelessly substitutes herself for Kallas whenever she can. By trampling on treaties while constantly boasting about the rule of law....
Such is the story of this sordid tweet, which history will remember as the perfect example of the dysfunctionality
Jaq you cannot be as stupid as you pretend to be. Of course, negotiations were in good faith. At some point, you realize that the other side is just lying and delaying. If you have paid attention to the news at any point in the last 40 or 50 years, you would realize that this is what Iran does. They lie and just need to make it until the next election.
There is that meme going around it says something about the entire modus operandi of liberals is to pretend to believe something that they know not to be true and then object to strawman arguments. Something like that.
I choose not to believe that you have the IQ of a moron. If they were negotiating in good faith, and if they were prepared to give up nuclear aspirations and missile technology, there would have been no attack. But it was obvious to everyone who has read the newspaper in the last 50 years or even someone with the intelligence of a third grader that their aspiration is to be able to deliver nuclear weapons to Israel, Europe, and the United States of America.
This is among the most righteous wars that the United States has executed.
Jaq if you really do not understand the difference between theocracy in Iran and what you are calling theocracy in the United States of America - That the United States of America was founded upon Judea Christian values by religious Christians - You are either among the most ignorant or the most stupid of the posters here. Be honest. Do you really not understand the difference or are you just making a strawman argument?
Let us take a moment to consider the thousands of young Iranian women who are poised to be freed from the hell their university student grandmothers, and great-grandmothers, condemned them into when they marched in the streets of 1979 Tehran.
The way the young university women are marching in NYC, LA, and elsewhere in the US in support of the 1979 Islamic regime today hoping to push the Iranian young women back into hell.
Mahdi don’t like it
Bombing teh Iran
Bombing teh Iran
Jaq again, do you really not understand that the Iranian Islamist fascist government has been brutally suppressing its people for coming on 50 years and the people hate the government? This is not like Muslims celebrating 9-11. This is like Jews around the world celebrating the liberation America provided of World War II and liberating the concentration camps. Do you honestly not understand the difference? Or are you just pretending and lying?
I think Jaq spilled the fava beans on his tizzy this morning when he admitted that his SO hates Trump. That explains everything. Dude, I take back everything I said about you. There is no verbal punishment that comes anywhere near the hell you must be enduring.
DYSLEXIA running amuck this am.....
A negotiated agreement would be doomed to endless challenges over cheating and lying, and we would be back to war again anyway. Now is probably the best time possible, because for the moment we don't have fools in charge wearing dresses and wigs, afraid to do what's needed and willing to warn the enemy of our intentions.
And now back to Epstein, the missing files and business as usual bought to you by washington straight tv. 4 dead in OHIO(still)
Obama was often so smug and condescending, always shaking that finger. It was repellant and tiresome to me at the time, but a lot of Americans loved it, which doesn't reflect well on them, IMHO.
It worked so well for Obama that Hillary tried it. It blew up in her face quite spectacularly.
It's more embarrassing than irksome now to see clips of Obama's pompous comportment...and sad.
The American people could give him the power to accomplish great things, but they couldn't give him the ability.
Dd driver- only Congress has the power to declare war. Declaring war is different than executing war. That lies with the President of the United States. There’s nothing illegal about this.
I hold the American Walzian-Maddow-Kimmel's Hitler wife and leftwing D leadership with the same contempt as Radical terrorist female abusing Supremacist Islamists.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I see that dinky dau Has a comment I just go past it. He writes like a paranoid schizophrenic off of his medication’s. A long time ago. Jaq Could put words together that did not sound like a paranoid schizophrenic having a breakdown. Sadly, that is quite a long time ago and now I think there is no longer any need to respond to his or her posts. They come across as someone who has had a complete break from reality and there’s really no reason to take any of his comments or ideas seriously or as one would take and want to respond to the comments of a rational adult.
Much like RCKcean and Ben it comes to JOOOOOS.
Putting aside the notion that Trump is attempting to "erase" Obama's legacy, is he acting with the right intention in Iran? It looks like Trump tried to get to peace agreement with Iran and failed. But does this justify destroying Iran's military and political leadership? How is this war essential for peace? The Trump Administration is obligated to protect the American people, not the Israelis.
I absolutely believe that relentless terror and the atrocities committed on October 7, 2023, justify a military response, even a savage one. But this is Israel's problem.
When you see an RCOcean comment, think Phil Hendrie and RC Collins.
And that is how Barack Obama in his … wisdom? … convinced Donald Trump to run for President.
Thank you, sir.
“You want some more, mullahs, well here’s some more!”
@Mette Fredricksen, we also know the coordinates of Marienborg, and when you are in residence there. Now with respect to Greenland …
Okay, how about this argument.
Iran may not be a direct threat to the land and people inside our borders at the present moment, but they are a threat to our allies, our trading partners and to the stability of the region and beyond. This means they are a direct and immediate threat to our economy. The world has become very small and interdependent, like it or not.
A strong economy is vital to our ability to protect the land and people within our borders and therefore we have the right and duty to defend the pillars of our economy as zealously as we would defend our geographic borders.
If we allow a sworn enemy to damage and weaken our economy, we are allowing them to injure our nation and its people. America doesn't have to exist in geographic proximity to Iran to be threatened by their actions. We don't have to be inside the range of Iran's missiles to be damaged by them and therefore we have a right and a duty to prevent them from using those missiles.
Jaq
Sounds like you doubled up on the stupid pills this morning.
Reza Pahlavi was the legitimate ruler, Shah, of Iran from 1941 to 1979. He was never not shah during that period.
Are you saying he staged a coup against himself?
Wow!
In 1953 a coup was attempted against him by his appointed prime minister. The CIA (and others) helped put it down and the shah continued in power uninterrupted. The CIA engaged in shenanigans (obligatory BOO! HISS!) as they are wont to do. But they didn't stage a coup

Everything Progressives claim to hate is embodied in the government of Iran. A Theocracy led by religious fanatics that treat women worse than dogs. Women who are raped in Iran can be sentenced to death if some vile male judge decides she didn't "fight hard enough." This happens every year by the way. Security forces are trained to shoot female protesters in the face with shotguns loaded with bird shot. This usually doesn't kill them, but blinds them and leaves them with horrific facial injuries. The reason behind this is so that "no man will every ant them." This is their policy. And Progs like Jaq won't say a damn word against them. Why not?
It's amazing that some people hate Trump so much that Khameini becomes the Good Guy and Trump the Bad Guy. My suspicion is that Trump is an Existential Threat to their self-esteem, the feeling that they are members of the ruling class.

Yeah.
@tcrosse, that may be true, but note how Trump has cut and continues to it the graft and corruption.
Like most criticism of action, people can just say this action is a bad idea, or something like "leave Israel to solve it's own problems". The thing is, nobody has to face the consequences of those suggestions. They assume not taking action somehow avoids consequences, or if they are bad, "it's not my fault, I didn't do or suggest anything", but yes, you did, and inaction is still a decision. To support this view, they like to forget the benefits of past actions and only remember the negatives. Take some time to consider what it means long term to do nothing when something is needed. Inaction invites and encourages bad people to do what they want, knowing no one will interfere. Inaction is the default, and it's not only not a panacea, it's often the opposite.

You don't know much about human nature, do you?
I remember talking to a Jewish man many years ago. He had been an inmate in one of the concentration camps in Germany during WW2. The inmates prayed that our airforce would bomb the camp.
This time the inmates prayers were answered.
But phil hendry was funny these chuckleheads are supercereal
We have seen how they have behaved otherwise
Some of the speculation about the camps was they were doing work with ig farben which had alliances with american industry
Thats would be the cynica view

As Brit Hume said, they really have trapped themselves into this place where they can't even admit the death of a monster like Khamenei is a good thing. If you find yourself siding with drug cartels and terrorists just because Trump is fighting with and ending them, you MIGHT want to think about what it is you really stand for.
This has been embarrassing for the Democratic Party in so many ways, considering how low their approval rating was before this. Oof.
True.
147 comments so far and 37 of them from Jaq. You can always tell how badly Jaq, AKA Tim in Vermont AKA Imtay in pig Latin, is losing by merely counting the number of shit comments he posts, particularly so if more than three of them are in a row.
Cynica - perfect name for a cat
In politics, the problem with going to the limit is, that you are at the limit. The US opposition objects to everything that Trump does before he does it so why should he not do what policy he can. And if he shows restraint he will be ridiculed as a coward, so why bother.
Iran shows that single-mindedness is not a virtue, but a weakness. Like old Scotland, personal fortitude combined with a weak strategic picture is fatal, but it can take a long time to play out. Sooner or later everyone hates you and your allies get tired of bailing you out.

For the same reason Jaq started arguing for Ukraine to surrender to Russia the second day after Russia invaded - because he is a Russophile and wants to see the communists win. He doesn't give a shit about Ukraine or about the US, he is only interested in seeing our enemies come out on top.

So unfortunately the hot girls no longer lust for Iran. The social advantage of dating the bad boy disappears when the bad boys parents are not paying his bills. Iran has become more trouble than it is worth. Chinese billionaires won’t pay for blue city protests anymore.

There's never been a requirement that Congress declare war when conflict is already underway—due to an adversary attacking U.S. territory, forces, assets, or shipping—which Iran as well as its surrogates have indubitably done.
Sometimes Congress goes ahead afterwards and declares war anyway, as in the Mexican war, as well as World War II, for example, but it need not.
UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh has written about this aspect of American constitutional law.
oops, sorry jaydub, I blame misspelling on spellcheck.
This is a lesson that allowing someone to avoid accountability over and over will eventually cause them to suffer greatly because they actually come to believe that they are immune from accountability.
Talking with others today, it seems to us that the reason Trump so very frightens other world leaders is his pursuit of warfare.
He goes after the leaders, not the soldiers. Ever since kings and potentates stopped leading from the front- the killing of the leaders pursuing the war has been somewhere between difficult and impossible. Trump has demonstrated that in today's world- it's easy-peasy. Not really, but our military at his direction has pulled it off.
I can guarantee our new leadership in the War Department didn't go to their JAGs and ask- "Is this acceptable?" They just did it. Several times now. Even i a declared war, WWII, there were arguments against doing that. Operation Vengeance, the targeted assassination of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was opposed by military lawyers precisely because it was a targeted assassination. Why, that's MURDER! Kill him on the bridge of a ship during battle, or in a random dogfight, or something like that, that's fine. But TARGET him for ASSASINATION? That's just wrong!
I hate to say Ukraine is leading the way in this form or warfare, but they've killed several Russian generals in Russia proper. Exploded car bombs in Moscow. Putin has spoken out against what we've done. Putin has a target on his back- and Ukraine is aiming for it. Ukraine doesn't have the military power we do, but they certainly have developed a covert intelligence and action network inside Russia.
We have demonstrated forcefully that we can take out the top leadership echelon in almost any country. And have demonstrated we're willing to do it. We don't need to orchestrate the aftermath. The new leaders coming into power will know they can get along with us, or soon be former leaders, likely dead former leaders.
Targeting leaders instead of proles. An idea whose time has come.
realize these international port authorities storage facilities are also used to avoid sanctions correct?
You sanction an oligarch in a country like Iran, VZ, Russia etc that has a BVI LLC set up by Epstein (as a tax advisor) with assets in Luxembourg banks in a trust under their children's name and assets in the international storage facilities and it literally doesn't matter.

I confirmed the area adjacent to the US Navy assets in Bahrain does, in fact, have the storage facilities I mentioned. •Bahrain’s logistics infrastructure, including the Bahrain International Investment Park and the Khalifa Bin Salman Port area (adjacent to Mina Salman), includes duty-free zones designed for storage of goods, and valuables. These zones are used by international traders to defer taxes and avoid local jurisdiction scrutiny.
For broader context on art storage and money laundering (drawing from reports like the US Treasury’s 2022 study on the art market): Freeports worldwide, including those in the Middle East, enable anonymous storage of artworks and collectibles worth billions, often via shell companies or trusts. Estimates peg global illicit art-related crime at $3-8 billion annually (it’s much higher). Bahrain’s proximity to Gulf petrodollars and its role as a financial hub (hosting banks tied to past scandals like BCCI) make it a plausible node.
For instance, Pandora Papers revealed art hidden in Geneva and Singapore freeports by oligarchs and embezzlers.

transponders, maybe they have gone berzerker
Three ships attacked near Strait of Hormuz as fears grow of oil price rises
Not to worry, the Gulf States are increasing output of oil that they cannot ship, though. Oil markets open in just a few hours. I am sure that Trump has a plan that doesn't include sending ground troops and putting littoral attack ships at risk of anti-ship missiles. Look at a map.
How many British ships were sunk by Exocet missiles in the Falklands war?
As for friendly fire, didn't the Harry S Truman shoot down one of its own F-18s, or maybe it was one of its destroyers.
How much absurd shit are we supposed to swallow?
How easy would it be to smuggle MANPads into the US? Obviously these are the new rules. There is a reason that assassination has always been beyond the pale. Well, the genie is out of the bottle now, but I am sure that Trump has thought it all out.
Look at some of the attacks that Ukraine has done inside of Russia. Do you really think that it would be impossible to carry off such attacks here?

So basically you are giving the exact same argument that Russia did in Ukraine.
I'm glad Jaq has such a distinctive avatar. It makes ignoring his posts so much easier.
Jaq - I am going to assume that you are simply ignorant and unintelligent rather than intentionally lying. Of course there is always a possibility of Loan Wolfe infiltrators that came in while Joe Biden left our borders completely open and unexamined. It would seem to me that any coordinated attack against us would rely on the predicate that there is in Iran, where the infiltrators will be celebrated. That is to say if Iran sent individual agents here in this country to lie, low, and weight and attack us when the time is right, that would be predicated upon their still being an intact, Iran. If you were that person, if you infiltrated the land of your enemy, and your country is no longer gone, and you have an opportunity to live a normal life in this new country as long as you’re not detected would you either rampage and kill a few people or a dozen people and give up your life for a country that no longer exists or would you say I can make a pretty sweet life if I adapt to the new reality? Thinking things through I think the latter is the more likely reality.
It’s an interesting sandbox problem, are the ak47 murder squads and freighters full of missile carrying sea containers just waiting out there now? What are they waiting for, and if they attacked the east or west coast, particularly DC, Iran would be killing its own supporters. If a drone attack were made from a hidden terrorist base in Canada or Mexico that would upset the nafta apple cart.
If you were writing a thriller you would have 100 Harley riding Iranians descend on Tulsa but the 14 year old Boy Scouts would break the locks on grandads AR15 and M1 Garand collection and fight them from confiscated fire trucks.
When I see something like this where the Iranians, the Chinese, the Russians, the United Nations and the Democrats all squeal in impotent fury, I know that it must be good for America.
Killing Khamenei is a good start but if the IRGC remain in power it will be a short lived victory for the Iranian people. I would say Trump’s main goal was to remove the nuclear threat. Okay he did that. But it was not a regime change, which really should be the goal. There seems to be no plan to get a new government in power. Trump wants the Iranian people to rise up and take over but how do they do that without opposition leadership [in the country] and without a plan? Especially when bombs are still falling. The war will definitely please Israel and other countries in the Middle East. I hope it works out for the Iranians as well but the regime is very well entrenched.

Yesterday’s attack on Iran sends a strong message to would-be dictators who use secret police to murder protesters.
