As most here know, we have a couple units at Trump International in Las Vegas. And, yes. It his library will, apparently fit right in. A lot of similar design features. No. It isn’t gold flake, but rather shiny gold paint. They just repainted the front door area in LAS with it. Same white and gold color scheme.

The Obama library reconfirms every 20th century sterotype of the global left: (1) designed by committee with huge cost overruns, (2) preference for unstylish domineering brutalist shapes, (3) overwrought symbolism meaningful only to insiders, and (4) ineffective visual elements -- the unreadable quote on the side.
It repeates a lot of the same thinking as the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in DC -- which was opened by Obama in 2016. The floor layout and relative space dedicated to various topics makes no sense for users. The history content is intentionally crammed in the basement to "relive" the slave ship experience (so no one can actually see it), while the upper floors have huge empty spaces and marginal cultural content (contempoary art, 20th century music, etc.).
Biden's will be an old gym in Delaware repurposed. So he can take people behind it and beat them up.

Actually there is a very good reason for a President to build one, and we saw why with the FL prosecution of Trump after leaving office. Trump’s papers and personnel effects will go to his library, and he and presumably his family will likely maintain control over them for the foreseeable future. Absent that, the National Archives claims control. And the head of the National Archives is appointed by the current President. What that meant was that the Biden WH ordered the National Archives to fully cooperate with the FBI. apparently orchestrated by DOJ Counterintelligence and Export Control branch chief, and later deputy special counsel, Jay Bratt. He then ordered Archives to obtain documents from Trump that were marked Classified (even when they weren’t). When Trump responded too slowly, they ordered Archives to criminally refer that to the DOJ (and since he headed Counterintelligence there, that meant to him). And with the (illegal) criminal referral, he could subpoena the documents, and when they did not respond quickly enough (denying their request for an extension of time or rolling discovery), he was able to get a search warrant, which, as we all know was served by heavily armed FBI agents, who, among other things, rooted through Melania’s underwear drawer. With a designated library, this sort of thing is minimized, if not eliminated

The luxury Boeing 747-8 jet was given by Qatar as an "unconditional donation" for use as Air Force One. Yeah, yeah, the Post-Presidential plan calls for the jet to be transferred to Trump's presidential library foundation - but who believes that he will plant it in his tower complex (to be built in Miami) - never to be flown again.

Gadfly, you're speaking of the NEW Air Force One, or USAF designation VC-25B, to be based on a late model 747-800. The Qatar jet is a stopgap until Boeing can fulfill its overdue/over-budget contract.
The old Air Force One planes, designated VC-25A, are based on the 747-200 and were built near the end of the Reagan Administration, although they did not enter service until after his term. They are now slated for retirement after nearly 40 years of service. One is slated to go to George Bush Sr.'s presidential library and the other to Trump's, as they were the first and last Presidents to use them. Neither the Qatar jet nor the actual VC-25B will be put at the Trump Library.

The usual justfication for presidential libraries is that there are so many papers that it makes sense to have the ex-presidents' fan pay to house and mainain the documents, rather than taxpayers. If the Obama Library's model of building a massive ediface that won't house actual documents is the new procedure, that cuts into the rationale. Notice I said "justification" and "rationale." The real reason for the presidential libraries is to glorify former presidents.
And most NYers still refer the Tappan Zee Bridge as such, rather than the Sfaccim, h/t Bob Grant.

The proposed Trump library is bland, though a little less so than the average skyscraper of today. The Obama library is aggressively ugly. Many of the Carnegie libraries of the early 20th century were beautiful. Too bad they can't be the inspiration.

It looks like the Freedom Tower in NYC. There will be a hotel in the Trump Library building, which sours the project a little. The Hermitage in St. Peterburg is the real thing. The Guggenheim in NY is the real thing. The Guggenheim Hermitage Museum at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas wasn't the real thing. It was just another hotel attraction. It didn't last.
I was thinking that the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, like the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, won't be the real thing, but it'll be as real as the other presidential libraries. It's a retconning (if that's the word*) of the concept, but it's the same deal - a private group raises money for a facility that the National Archives will cooperate with and to some extent operate. And after 100 or 150 years, you know that the Roosevelt and Lincoln Libraries were built out of love (or local desire for a tourist attraction) than out of more sordid political deals.

Obama, to me, rode into the Presidency on various factors, but was a lesser man (ideas mostly destructive of larger unity...factional, activist and divisive...somewhat narcissistic and full of empty rhetoric. Hired a lot of sycophants. A bit of a snake). He was like a good salesman in the right place at the right time. He's leaving behind a large, modernist, mostly ugly building towering over the landscape in South Chicago...which I predict will fail at much of its core mission, just like as do many of his policies, much as would an overpriced library in a poor neighborhood (Input=ideals and ideology...Output=big shitty buildings with bad rules failing at many basics)
I see Trump, too, as a lesser man in many ways, especially in relation to his appetites. He's kind of aping a more honorable man (the military school kid he could have become). Pussy is his weakness, and narcissism a key vice, just as he picked up the Republicans' failing reputation and brand. He's apparently planning to leave behind a large, glass, modernist tower in Miami...which will likely fail at much of its mission (true education and unity, a valuable public resource rather than a monument...which will showcase a certain pomp/showmanship).
These buildings seem fitting. Factional, uninspired modernist glass towers shouting at the world precisely because these men face more internal doubt about their legacies in our current environment, and their own greatness.
Of course, we're all flawed, but, here we are.
