RIP Augie Meyer, 85.
I watched an old Texas Tornadoes video a couple of weeks ago “Mendocino” (had to be a few decades ago, as Freddie Fender was still alive) and I wondered if Augie was still with us. At that point, he was. I always enjoyed his keyboard work.
Technically, no. But pretty anyway.

It's Spring but only by the calendar; meaning astronomically (Sun crossing the Equator).
In New England Spring only credibly comes in mid-April (even later). Stated in other words, Winter starts in November and leaves in April.
Not as bad as Canada though. They have two seasons - this Winter and Next Winter.

On my face
I know the sight and sound of you

Last sunrise of winter. Equinox was at 9:46am CDT.

"Idaho has Winter and Road Construction…"
Winter? Not where I am in Idaho. Winter gave us a pass this year, no snow and it barely got below 30°. Roads? I haven't seen much in the way of construction but seeing as how it's over 80° today, it won't surprise me to see it starting up soon.

Is it wrong to refer to today’s sunrise as the first sunrise of spring?
I asked Grok:
Answer:
No, it’s not wrong to refer to today’s sunrise as the first sunrise of spring—it’s poetic, evocative, and commonly understood in casual or symbolic contexts—but it’s not precisely accurate in strict astronomical terms.
The official astronomical start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere is the vernal (or spring) equinox, which today (March 20, 2026) occurs at 10:46 a.m. EDT (that’s 9:46 a.m. CDT in Madison, Wisconsin). This is the precise moment when the Sun’s center crosses the celestial equator, making day and night nearly equal in length worldwide, and marking the transition to spring.
The equinox can happen at any time of day, depending on the year. In 2026, it’s mid-morning, so:
• The sunrise this morning (before the equinox moment) technically still occurred during astronomical winter.
• The first sunrise fully in astronomical spring would be tomorrow’s (March 21), or more precisely, today’s sunrise is the first one after the equinox only if we consider the day as a whole once the equinox has passed.
People often treat the entire equinox date as “the first day of spring,” and many celebrate the equinox sunrise with events (like observances at stone circles or parks) because it’s the sunrise on the day spring officially begins. Phrases like “first sunrise of spring” appear in event names and media around the equinox, treating it symbolically as the dawn of the new season.

Okay, Okay Grok. I just wanted a yes or a no.
Goddamn.
Anyway, we're now into Spring. And now we can do cartwheels, sing happy songs, and pick daisys.

"Technically". Otherwise known as "correct".

YouTube: Ergativity —The Most Confusing Concept in Linguistics?
From the video notes: “In English, "I ran" and "I built a house" use the same grammatical logic. You are the subject, the active doer, in both. But in nearly 25% of the world's languages, that isn't true. In an ergative language, the version of "you" that runs is grammatically identical to the house being built—not the person building it.”
“Ergativity is often cited as the most confusing concept in linguistics, but it doesn't have to be. In this video, Dr. Taylor Jones (PhD, University of Pennsylvania) breaks down the "backwards" logic of Ergative-Absolutive alignment. We’ll move past the "Mystery of the Subject" to see how language evolves, how your brain shifts between systems, and why "the subject" might actually be three children in a trenchcoat.”
Language Jones says if he can “get it”, you can “get it” too. Maybe I “can get it”, I just have to watch it a dozen times. 🤪

We drove the Trans-Canada Highway from Portage LaPrairie to Vancouver a few years ago, with an overnight in Banff. It was glorious, with clearing skies the evening before we stopped, and more blue sky and and puffy clouds for most of the day. It was more than we expected and if we get up there again we'd love to take the train east to west.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/water-desalination-quietly-returns-to-gaza-after-work-by-israel-and-pa/
Remember, it's not a genocide, but unfortunately the Israelis were forced to shut down the water for the Gazans, and now it is being returned to them, but only in a trickle, and only to the people that they want to take control of Gaza.
I have no doubt that we will quickly get comments that claim that Hamas shut off the drinking water to their own people because reasons.
Noticing stuff like this is maybe what got Charlie Kirk assassinated. There is a country that we know that doesn't hesitate to assassinate inconvenient people
Google SAVAK and Mossad, if you want to talk about repression of the Iranian people.
"and now it is being returned to them, but only in a trickle, and only to the people that they want to take control of Gaza."
So they're handing it over to people they don't think will attack them? And you think that's inappropriate?
Iran just brutally murdered a 19 year old champion wrestler, Saleh Mohammadi, by hanging him and several others. Why? Because they dared to speak out against the terrorist regime during the January protests.
“Israelis were forced to shut down the water for the Gazans, and now it is being returned to them, but only in a trickle, and only to the people that they want to take control of Gaza.”
You do see that this a a 2024 news article, right? In the middle of the war that was started by Gazans slaughtering Israeli women and children, Israel provides electric power and technology, which has probably never happened in the history of any war. They say no good deed goes unpunished.

Now comes the headline: “JB Pritzker Reveals Plan to Arrest Trump Officials: 'Project 2029' “.
Doesn’t Trump have the DOJ/ FBI/ IRS at his disposal? Asking for a friend.

Breezy,
That puts almost all of Europe in range (from the NW corner of Iran.) Expecting crickets from the left on this …
Another MEU has been dispatched to the theatre of operations three weeks ahead of schedule on orders from Bibi.
It's been known for a while Iran had a long range ballistic missile capability. One missile failed in flight and the US intercepted another.
Instead of projecting strength, this failed attack shows Iran is getting desperate. Also, now they have demonstrated they can reach Europe, they have given further justification to Bibi Trump's war on Iran. This gives Trump an argument that Iran directly threatens our NATO partners in Europe, therefore they should join the fight.
It was known that Iran had a non-orbital satellite launch capability, which was just a development of its IRBMs. A couple of those left over in a warehouse probably.
Nuclear is of course the worst threat, but Iran being able to launch ICBMs and IRBMs at various distant targets reinforces Tulsi’s comment that the threat level requiring action is composed of many factors and is determined by the president.
Given the resolution of detail that Israel has acquired in other aspects, I have to believe they/we knew about the progress of their ballistic missile program.
Agreed, Howard. Although Europe has been oblivious to the severe damage they’ve already invited in from Islamic countries. Europe is suffering from a depression of sorts, and that may have currently sapped their will to survive. Trump attacking the Iran regime gives me hope he’ll put more focus on the Islamic terrorist imams and followers within the US next. Examples need to be made.
Breezy: "This news should quiet the “imminent threat” mongers. Should."
Yeah, no. They will switch seamlessly from "Why did you attack a country that posed no imminent threat? So bloodthirsty!" to "Why did you attack a country that posed such an imminent threat? So reckless!" CC, JSM
Humperdink: "Now comes the headline: “JB Pritzker Reveals Plan to Arrest Trump Officials: 'Project 2029' “. Doesn’t Trump have the DOJ/ FBI/ IRS at his disposal? Asking for a friend."
Yes, it would be great if Trump and Harmeet started locking up Pritzker and co now for conspiracy to deny civil rights under color of law.
At this point, each side is saying we'll lock you up for genuine crimes, but you'll lock us up for made-up crimes because of our politics.
Might as well force the issue now in court. Trump and co will get locked up no matter what they do, so why not have fun in the meantime? CC, JSM
Majic eightball of course
Again this morning I go to X and see the lie repeated that the Save Act requires a passport to vote. Including by two members of Congress. Both Democrats of course.
It occurs to me that I don’t recall seeing that lie repeated here. I guess we have a better breed of Lefties.
ImTay: how many sockpuppet accounts are you up to now, Ronald Ward?
I bought a gun.
Let's discuss how easy it is to buy a gun.
Spring, is it? Northern Arizona was 97F yesterday where I am. 32F above normal high temperature. I find it extremely depressing to get this taste of the hellish summer we look forward to every year. I am escaping to cool Ireland for 6 weeks this summer, but even that is small consolation. When I get back in August, I'll still have at least 10 weeks of miserable heat. For the life of me, I can't understand why so many people seem to think this is a suitable place to live.
Rustygrommet - which state did you buy it in? Depending on where you live, it's either just another retail transaction, or a massive PITA comparable to having your rectum raked by an RN with fake nails. CC, JSM
I purchased my firearm in the peoples republic of Illinois. Since it was a long gun I only had to wait three days. Exactly. They print the time on the receipt and if you show up early you have to wait. So like the RN thing.
Still, just a FOID card, right? No registration of the gun itself or the ammo? Guess you can't carry it loaded in the car, but who really does? Of course, IL does restrict what long guns you can have: no scary pistol grips or bayonet lugs. Still, compared to other states, probably middle of the road. 2 nails in the rectum on a scale of 5? CC, JSM
Gonna take a flyer on MEDICI at TURFWAY PARK today at 5-1 morning line. $60.00 TO win NO GIMMICKS PLAY Richard Mandella runner has been training well and not thrilled with the 5-2 favorite. I will continue my wager at Fair grounds if Emerging Market stays at 5-1 or better,,not playing the favorite Golden Tempo the speed of the race. Sticking with previous wagering set 2 days ago. I will checlk odds before sending in as I will not bet against my own morning line odds not matter what board shows. AND THEIR OFF! Still doping Democrat take over of House in mid terms. So far im looking at 12 seats(need 3 to turn) got some time to continue looking. If THE MAGAS group keep up their chaos numbers should raise. "Illinois House Bill 4414 proposes new regulations for handgun ammunition, including:
Serialization and Tracking: Starting January 1, 2027, all handgun ammunition sold or possessed in Illinois must be serialized, meaning they will have unique identifiers for tracking purposes.
2
Centralized Database: A centralized database will be created by the Illinois State Police to record ammunition transactions, including purchaser identification and serialized information.
2
Fees: Retailers selling ammunition will be required to register and report transaction details, with a potential fee of up to five cents per round of ammunition sold.
2
Penalties: Possessing non-serialized ammunition in public could result in a Class C misdemeanor, while manufacturing or selling unserialized ammunition could lead to a Class A misdemeanor.
2
Legislative Context: The bill has faced significant opposition from gun rights organizations, raising concerns about its implications for gun owners and the effectiveness of serialization technology.
2
This legislation aims to enhance the traceability and regulation of handgun ammunition in Illinois."
Doesn't say anything about reloading. I'm sure that will follow.
“In New England Spring only credibly comes in mid-April (even later). Stated in other words, Winter starts in November and leaves in April.”
Temp is 88° now, and predicted to hit 103° today here in PHX. Just came for LVNV yesterday, and it isn’t much better. Luckily, it’s supposed to drop into the high 90s starting tomorrow (97°). Our landscape guy told us that this is cutting our prime planting system short this year. (We have to replace one of the palm trees he planted for us last year). The first 100° day is usually the date we migrate to MT for the summer half the year. We usually head back at the first snow.
It’s a very weird year. Snow in central and northern CO has been record horrible. Skiing has suffered greatly, and the ski resorts are bleeding red ink. Pacific NW (east of the Cascades) was also hit hard this year, while the northern Plains through New England were hit hard.
“This legislation aims to enhance the traceability and regulation of handgun ammunition in Illinois."
Definitely a clown show. Last I knew, no one was making the stuff. So, manufacturers are going to have to start making IL conforming ammunition. Possibly doubling its cost. So, you drive to IN or WI to pick unserialized ammo. Whoops, that’s now a Class C misdemeanor. Of course that violates both Interstellar Commerce AND the 2nd Amdt. And, since almost no one is sentenced for Felon in Possession already, it won’t be applied, except against the middle class, who already don’t misuse their guns. Thus making Chicago even more dangerous. Likely, a feature, not bug.
Oh, and it’s a waste of time and money anyway. Canada tried to implement a gun registry database, and it was a massive failure. Didn’t solve a single crime, wasted millions, and was never fully implemented.
its what ayers and obama were working for at the joyce foundation,
“Still doping Democrat take over of House in mid terms. So far im looking at 12 seats(need 3 to turn) got some time to continue looking.”
Hence the mid decennial gerrymandering. And why Trump is pushing the SAFE act so hard. The only way that the Dems have a chance is through massive election fraud. It’s, of course, in the big cities, that Dems control, that they can pile up their illegal votes. But with the SAFE Act, Harmeet K. Dhillon as the Civil Rights AAG, and the recent SCOTUS case giving candidates Standing, this is going to be much harder.
Dinky’s Down with the Doping… and Cheating… and lying…
As a matter of fact, Dinky’s down with the Democrats and their LCD approach to life.
Dinky thinks there must be a winner in that pile of horseshit.

Louisiana Derby has EMERGING MARKET winning today paying only $6.00 therefore negating my wager at my own mormning line of minimum 5-1, that $200.00 at those odds.I must stay true to how I see them ,great race and 2nd place horse would have split my exacta .Chad Brown and Flavian Pratt good combo. EMERGING MARKET was at 5-1 but as race closed dropped 2-1, and my exacta horse also dropped to 3-1. Wash on that race even though liking winner but not the odds. Jeff Rubby STAKES got my price on MEDICI but horse ran to top of stretch and gave in, $60.00 win bet a loss. Many more races before Derby, hopefully the prices wont all turn to chalk. I will keep an eye on EMRGING MARKET though only 2nd race but just held on by a neck. Not sure Derby Caliber. Tracks played fair races won by closer Louisianna on speed favoring track and by closer on a track favoring come from behind horses(TURFWAY PARK)Small dent in my wagering only bankroll.Flying up to Rockport Mass in June maybe hit the Plainridge Park Casino .45 minutes away to play some Bandits and the Harness Races(really crooked!!!!,just got to play the crooks :)
OH no it seems as if the Dr insect and the Muslim guy never handicapped a thoroughbred race. Thats pretty sad but what you gonna do,some folks just never expanded their horizons. I'll pray for them to stretch out a little and stay out of the ozone, the delusions are dangerous ,a step out on the ledge once in awhile could do well for enhancement :)
In common American speech, we say "the first day of spring." It's not a technical term. "Equinox" is a technical term. It would technically wrong to say this was the first sunrise after the equinox, but I never said that. I was operating within culture that speaks of the first day of spring, and this was the first day of spring. To call the next sunrise the first sunrise of spring would confuse people into thinking that was the first day of spring, which it wasn't.
